WiFi speed bad through Comcast/ XFinity - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Alright I have searched through the forum and can't really find anything on this. I just got internet service with Comcast and the download speed on my S4 is terrible. Can't get over 3 or 4 Mbps download but upload is really high sometimes 80 to 100 Mbps. All the other devices in the house get great speeds. I've tried to contact Comcast and all they want is to charge me more money for tech support with the gateway or doing a firmware update. My S4 is rooted and it does it on both TW and aosp ROMs. I know Comcast is a pretty popular company so I'm hoping another S4 owner can help me figure this out. Thanks

What does comcast advertise your speeds at? I have a 50mb connection at my house but am only able to pull about 22 down. It might not be the phone either, it could be your router as well. When you were testing the speeds was there anyone in your house downloading or streaming something because that would affect the test as well.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

Yeah I have a 50 Mbps plan. Nobody else was using the service when I run my speed tests.

Are you close enough to the router that your signal isnt being badly degraded?

Yeah on my WiFi settings it says signal strength is excellent. It takes 3 times as long to download the same file on my S4 than on my old rooted kindle. It shows full strength in my WiFi settings.

somehow I dont think he is getting 80-100 mbps upload on cable from comcast lmfao

This is my speed test results for my Comcast WiFi. I know they aren't right but I'm trying to figure out what's wrong.

When the kid installed it he said I was getting a really strong signal because it not being spread for TV services since I have Direct.

It seems like your node is messed up or the modem.
Comcast does not offer these kind of upload speeds or it's simply your phone trolling you.
That kind of upload speed is for few people maybe 20 or less I don't know hard to say.

Wow thats insane upload speeds. I wish I had that for my twitch streams. Anyhow I did a bit of googling and others with comcast had the same problem as you and after trying a different router it solved the problem. Are you using one supplied by them or do you have a different router. Maybe upgrading the firmware on the router would help out.

Damn thats effing ridiculous. I have cableone and theyre pretty good support wise. Most places will charge to have a tech come to your house if its a physical line problem, cableone its free.

My Verizon S4 (i545) over Wifi just got 14.26 Mb/s download , 15.89 Mb/s upload.
For contrast, my desktop gets 28.52/31.58 - so the phone is slower.
OK, maybe it's the wireless infrastructure here. But my Galaxy Tab 2 gets 16.55 download 11.25 upload.
I will say that the numbers I'm getting seem to vary a lot from run to run.
Edit: I forgot - I use FiOS. Not slowpoke Comcast, which may be the entire cause of your 4 Mb/s cap.

For me, same problem with Comcast. (2-5mbps wifi)
Solution: Dump their Xfinity "all in one" modem. Soon as I put my personal modem (Moto something or another) on the line, bam, 30+mbps on wifi. Only downside was I lost my land line phone ability.
Hope this helps.

Try changing your encryption type. Seems counter intuitive, but see what happens on WEP. It will only give you g speeds (around 18 mps max probably) but may work. I've seen this happen on plenty of Apple stuff, never any android though. Also, do you live in an apartment? Try an app called WiFi analyzer, see how many networks are around you. More than 10-12 and that could be part of it as well. I have seen apartments with 40-50 networks visible, and everybody had terrible wifi speeds.

I can't I have the thriple play bundle with the wifi, home security, and the cable.. I don't think they'll let me

It is a known issue with Comcast using I think Linksys router.
I had the same problem, I flushed my router with dd-wrt firmware and applied some commands and firewall block and my download went up to 50.
Search on Google Comcast ssdp. And you will see solutions.

Ya I have the triple Play bundle too, just no home Security. They will absolutely let you put a personaly owned modem on the line. You will still have to pay for theirs though.... (Found out the hard way)

I was having this issue and I switched to my 5 ghz wifi on my router and I actually gained about 10 megs

[Q] How much data have you used?

Ever since lauch date, I have seem to be racking up data very quickly..
Already 5.4GB and counting..
At this rate, Im very worried about future capping or throttling..
How much have yall used?
I have used 500 Megs in three days but I have been playing around a lot and have good 4g coverage. On the down side, you can almost see the battery meter drop while downloading.
It's currently Unlimited for now right? asenduk, how long have you had it. That's quite a bit of data man!
Over 10GB so far. I use it as my home ISP and will continue to until they take away free tether. Then I will debate about root/tether.
Thanks to you folks, I will never be in the top 5% that get throttled.
since Thursday last week lol

I am at around 2.5gb. Had the phone since late friday afternoon (5pm).
After using the iphone since te 3g.. this is a nice change. I am liking it alot. Just need more battery life and i am set.
I'm at just over 3GB.
300MB Most according to TrafficStats is from the HTC IME and Touch Input.... like wut?
4G speeds are addicting!
The LTE speeds in NYC are AMAZING!! Even downtown manhattan. I realize the airwaves are pretty clear rigt now... but i hope verizons network dont take such a big hit once it get saturated. ive gone as high as near 18mbps down
lets just hope that iPhone 5 is not LTE
we dont need them clogging up bandwidth lol
Something seems to be way off with the way the data is calculated on LTE.
If you look in the details of your usage on the Verizon website you will see that many of the entries have no actual usage details - only some do and if you sum up all the entries that do show the number of KB used - you will see that it is actually LESS than the number of KB showing on the main my account page.
My data usage patterns have not changed since i switch to VZW last week and yet it seems that i am using 5x more than what i used to use on at&t....it does not make sense at all. i don't tether and don't download anything.
2.4 GB for me
.07 GB for wifes iphone 4. she got hers before me lol.
I use the hotspot for my ipod pandora and usually use phone more than comp or laptop for playing on internet.
1.3 gigs since launch. I haven't really been able to use it much though. And lte here is iffy.

Little over 4 gigs. When you tether and use LTE data goes pretty quick. If they ever do implent 2 gig caps like AT&T this phone will be damn near useless for me.

Here in Cincinnati, I've hit 30mbps a few times. I was getting those speeds at work, so wednesday I was going to take a picture of speedtest if it comes back that high again.
But usually I see speeds of 20mbps down.
I have had the phone since Saturday night, and I am like 2.8GB of data. Helps that I downloaded all the files to root my phone, on my phone, since its like 6X faster than my home internet.
Anyone else try gaming while tethered yet on like an xbox 360 or ps3? My ping is usually low 50s at my house. Might try that out tomorrow, just because I can

It just slowed down and it doesn't get back up!, What would it be?.My phone is brand new and has been working like a champ for weeks. when I use wifi is really fast but with the cellular data I have this issue.

This is the vibrant forum.....
Try the samsung galaxy 4g forum
Maybe they throttled you because you went over your limit like the person above said.
You could always call your carrier and ask them.

[Q] best way to turn phone in to home internet

I want to say bye, bye to TW internet, but don't know the best way to make My Razr 4G LTE internet to all PC's,Ps3 and my Xbox 360.
I put it here becouse the Razr forms are small vs this one and Is more about LTE any way.
Thanks
Not really
It's not really the solution you wanted, but assuming you are not trying to tether the world to your cell phone (which should then double nicely as a heater), why not just get a mobile hotspot and be done with it.
I hate my TWC wires (2 cables spanning 2 neighbors yards) and have pulled twice the speed on my Rezound than I am getting from TWC (although not at home, regrettably). I say this because I understand your frustration first hand; I just disagree with your proposed resolution.
looked into this a bit, my conclusion was that:
1) unless you have a fairly small network (ie just yourself), you're going to need to go the route of the mobile hotspot.
&
2) the mobile hotspot hardware currently available isn't reliable enough to trust as a dedicated home internet solution.
Don't be fooled I use mine for everything and I pay for unlimited mobile hotspot. Just can't use everything at onces.

I get only maybe 20-30ms higher on my phone tether vs my FiOS.
If you are dead set on doing this, I would use your PC/Laptop as a network bridge. You should be able to connect the LAN cable to your PC and then into where your modem would plug into your router. But, you would have to setup your router first, or connect it via USB to setup since you wouldn't be able to use the provider software or the IP to connect in through that port. Just an idea, but like others said, reliability could probably be zero.
Let me tell you the "reliability" of my TW cable internet right now: It gos form 7-10DL to 3 and then even to under 1, 2-4 times A DAY. It go's out at times too, so I can't see it geting more bad then that.
P.S I am "dead set" on having home internet that has good up time and able to play 1080p video if needed.
Time Warner doesn't offer a package higher than 10mbps? Why not just get Fios or something? Have you even called TW? I had an issue like this a few years back (With a provider in GA I can't remember the name) where I wasn't getting the 25mbps I was paying for. They came out and tested my modem and it was dying. They replaced it, and it worked from then on out. It was even a modem I paid for myself, they gave me a new one and took the old one free of charge.
Koush posted that Tether is in the Android Market now.
I pay for 15DL and 1UL, But am only geting 6-10DL and .5UL. I think it's BS, but I can't poof that to them. I Have used all kinds of speed test and they all never hit more than 11-12DL and 1UL. LTE has been about the same on DL at home after the outges and DEC the 25th. ( It was geting 10-15DL and now its 4-10DL and 5-6UL.)
Now I am a bit mad at the big red, becuase on AT&T my speeds have been going up and Up and up. (I think AT&T Is about toput up LTE here soon)
LTE is extremelt cool, and will only get better. But as of right now, I wouldn't call it reliable enough to handle an entire house full of bandwidth-hungry devices.
My At&T U-Verse internet advertises up to 25mBps. This, to the average user, probably sounds like more than one would ever need. But what they don't tell you is that each TV (when its box is on) takes up to 6mBps of that bandwidth all by itself. So if you've got 2 HDTVs running in the house, and somebody gaming online, suddenly that internet speed ain't lookin' all that cutting-edge.
According to what I've gleaned from the small amount of research I've done, you need a solid 10mBps to stream 1080p HD content without bottlenecking. The top AT&T U-verse package I have can do it all day long, while also handling whatever else may be using bandwidth. I would worry about any plan below the top one though. Maybe if you only have one HDTV connection in the house.
I tried tethering off my phone when temp-root v2 came out, and I was impressed with the results. But I was also realistic about it. My tether speed tests came in at roughly 6-7mBps downloaded. Not bad in a pinch, but certainly nowhere near good enough to power a whole house. And certainly not good enough to stream HD.
I don't think the idea of a phone providing internet for the home far off, but we just aren't there yet. I'm thinking in 5-10 years.
If you want to use your phone as your home internet service, pm me. I've been using mine for my home for the last 4 years, cuz I don't have dsl. It's awesome, and I can help you get it up and running. I've averaged 40-50gb per month for the past 3 years. PM me.

I used 30Gb and I saw my speed in my home go down, but at work it would be fast as ever with 5 bars. My billing just started to day and my DL is now in the 20+ vs 5-7 DL before. I think I got my speeds lowered for useing 30gb. Any way TW sucks even more with that.

i started flashing modems and found that got up to around 3-4 mbps on a good run but thats still high for me. its the main reason i am thinking of getting the US varient.
i was expecting to see at least a CONSISTANT 4-6 Mbps and i am struggling to keep a strong 2-3 and it makes surfing and downloading apps and files a drag.
if anyone has any other thoughts i would love to try them out.

If its anything like Tmobile, the pay as you go plans lack roaming. So your signal will suffer. My buddy found this out after picking up a pay as you go plan. Call the network and ask if they have roaming on your plan. Then call a few more times to get a general consensus lol.

Verizon Fios wifi download speeds

Hey guys, I have fios with 50/25 mbps I can get around 40 with my laptop but my note is getting low teens. I switched from a wep security to wpa2 security whichever increased my wifi on my laptop but not on my phones (note 2 and ssg3).
Any ideas how to increase this? Am I missing a setting when connecting to wifi? At the moment, my 4g is faster than my wifi.
Upload speeds are fine... Actually higher than my download speeds. Seems like something is restricting my download speed.
Thanks in advance.

I have FiOS as well and encounter the same "problem...". My chrombook gets above 40 Mbps and my Note 2 gets around 18-25 even standing next to my router...I just think its the way it is to be honest...I really don't know but just wanted to share that I'm seeing the same thing here...it really doesn't inhibit my experience at all 18-25 Mbps is perfectly fine for cell phone downloads etc.

Same set up here...with similar results. I did some research on this as my ipad2 (which is now in a drawer thanks to the Note 2 BTW) wasn't getting anywhere near the speed I would have expected despite it supposedly being N compatible (my lenovo laptop gets 45 Mbps down all the time). Best answer I could find is that not all wireless radios are equal and can't handle the same speeds.
I have a 25 download connection on FIOS, and am sitting in my living room about ten feet from my router. I just ran a test on my laptop and phone via speedtest.net, and got 24/5 on the laptop and 25/6 on the Note 2. Initially I was going to respond to your post and say I am used to the same result you are seeing, but I just proved myself wrong.
When I'm in other parts of the house however, I do tend to see more of a performance degradation on the phone vs. the laptop...I don't have any exact data at the moment since I'm feeling too lazy to walk upstairs and repeat the test, but I do know the falloff happens more rapidly on the phone with distance from the router.
This is what I get on my Comcast 50/15 connection.
Desktop hardwired: 59Mbps down / 12Mbps up
Desktop wireless: 55Mbps down / 12Mbps up
Note 2: 40Mbps down / 16Mbps up
My desktop on wireless connects at 144Mbps, while my Note 2 only connects at 72Mbps. Both are within 4' of the router. Both using the same SpeedTest.net server.
I've noticed a huge difference in WiFi speeds between the different radios, the one that had given me the best spotted on WiFi is VRAMC3. The one that gives me the best speed on LTE is L4. The speed definitely differs from which radio you flash, that's why I wish Samsung would give our devs access to their radio tools and let us build our own. I guarantee if they did we wouldn't see this kind of crap.
