Thanks in advice!
Contacts - "Contacts Backup and Restore"
Call History - "Call Log Backup and Restore"
Messages - "SMS Backup and Restore"
Calendar, Notes, etc - "Super Backup'
For everything else - Titanium Backup
Nandroid backup above all else!

Hallo.
I want to flash from void to the new 2.2.2 Firmware.
Whats the best way to backup my settings, Apps, and Contacts?
Titanium backup or mybackup (must have root for both)
try both and see what you like, if you want to backup your rom and kernel too, use nandroid
to save apps there is AppSaver, u find it in the market
for contacts i use google contacts in gmail, for sms "SMS Backup & Restore"
and for calls "Call logs Backup & Restore"
so i have done
BACKUP
1) nandroid backup with CWM for emergency
2) backup system and apps with titanium
3) backup contacts with phone explorer (don't want sync with google account)
4) backup sms with sms backup & restore
RESTORE
1) restore system data with titanium backup (only green marked)
2) restore apps with titanium (apps and data)
3) restore contacts with phone explorer
4) restore sms with sms backup & restore
after doing this i only miss call protocoll, is there anyway to restore this ?

By call protocol, do you mean the call logs you want to restore? If so, you can use call logs backup and restore which is made by the same dev who makes sms backup and restore. Sorry if this is not what you meant.
So I've successfully moved from CLEANROM to SOPHISTICATEDROM with everything functioning. When I restore my apps with Titanium Backup, however, my SMS messages didn't make the trip.
So... I restore my Nandroid version of CLEANROM which I made just prior to flashing. The SMSs are all present as is my call history, etc. However, when I seek to back them up with Titanium Backup, I can't find them! Here are the steps that I have repeatedly taken:
Enter TB
Select "Backup and Restore"
Select "Click to edit filters"
Filter by type: System
After that, nothing appears with SMS/MMS information.
Where am I going wrong?

Click to collapse
Menu
Backup data to XML
Messages (SMS and MMS)
Then do the same but just restore from XML in Sophisticated.
I'm not ignoring your reply. I was well on my way to executing your recommendation when I got myself into this mess. I'll let you know!

Basically i can't figure out how to fix the phone so i'm going to flash back to stock and start from there.
all i really need to do is restore sms/mms/whatsapp chats
i was able to make a nandroid backup of phone state. it looks like data partition is in a tar gz file that i can extract files from.
My question is, can I just overwrite the mmssms.db and whatsapp database files to restore?
(restoring whatsapp messages from nandroid manager has failed miserably)
for anybody interested, i was able to restore from nandroid sms and mms using titanium backup.

Can you help me on this? I am on rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 Stock (Samsung Touchwiz) ROM. I opened Titanium backup and went to "Extract from Nandroid Backup" -> "Selected the Nandroid Backup from which I need to restore the sms". Then I selected "Messaging" from the list and chose to recover "Only Data". It successfully recovered in around a minute's time eith a message to restart the phone. After restart I do not find any sms from the Nandroid backup Please help!

for sms you can use a sms backup and restore app from playstore. its free and works perfectly. no need of root or anything. just copy the backup files to different phone and use restore option.
Hello all,
I want to format my phone and install a new ROM. So I backup the apps I use with Titanium Backup. But how can I backup the stock messaging app on stock ROM? I've tried to backup the app itself (it's a system app) with Titanium Backup but it didn't work... My previous messages didn't show. How can I backup my messages?
Thanks in advance.
to backup the messaging app , go to TB and search messaging and then make a backup. if you want to backup your messages, search messages and there is an option to backup " messages (sms & mms) " press this and press backup. one thing to keep in mind is that it will ask you to change the default messaging app when you restore "messages" and you must accept it so as to restore all your messages. when done, it should tell you to change back the messaging app to stock , if not , go to settings -> more -> default messaging app
Install the backup & restore app from Z3, Z3+ or Z5; you can backup your messages, call log and more! obviosuly this needs root. A backup file can be created on the microSD card, internal or even an external USB stick via USB OTG and the Z3+ and Z5 allow you to backup "in the cloud", all you have to do is sign with your google account.
You can install app from Google Play Store: "SMS Backup & Restore"
