Hi!
The story begins with me switching from my iPhone 4s to HTC 8X cause i found the WP platform and devices realy intresting and so i decided to try it!The HTC 8X from the 1st day begun to overheat and cause a related massive battery consumption 10-20 mins after beginning to play games of every kind (from Asphalt 7 to angry birds) and with some apps! The battery consumption when the phone was heating very much could reach a discharge rate of 30-35%/hour!!!!.I contacted HTC i ve sent the phone 3 times for service and the third and last time HTC changed the motherboard and battery but the issue didn't disappeared. After that HTC guaranted that the hardware is in perfect working order and is not causing the issue but i dont believed them so i decide to try my luck with Lumia 920!
But gues what!?!?!? I encountered the exact same problem on my lumia 920 from the 1st day i bought it so i guess after all that this is a software issue mainly cause by an OS or Firmware bug.Can anyone with more experience tell me if i m right?
I dont believe that both devices had hardware problem so it must be the OS (that is very buggy) or the Firmware.
Also has anybody heard anything about an update-fix from Microsoft or NOKIA or at least will any fix included on GDR3.
Please i need your knowledge people!!
What you are describing is normal for these devices. The CPU and GPU are battery hogs and that consumption is normal. Along with that consumption you will get heat. As long as the device is not uncomfortable to touch then the heat is not at a level to hurt anything. You are just used to devices that are not as demanding on the battery such as the iPhone.

Even 30-35% discharge per hour is normal for a phone like Lumia 920???Realy?
If yes then i will switch definitely back to my 4s
If no i want to know if an issue like this i going to be fixed through updates!
Just make sure you "back" out of apps. Apps don't close if you hit the center Windows button to get to the Home screen. Try hitting the back button until you get to your home screen. If that doesn't work, I just turn the phone off and turn it back on.

I always do that. The problem is tha the phone when it's idle or use it for a short time 5- 10 mins it's ok.On idle my with few talks and text messages my battery can last 1 day for sure and maybe 2!Wi-fi seems not to overheat my phone.
I have always:
Location Off
Bluetooth Off
NFC Off
Both devices (Lumia 920 and HTC 8x) are in perfect working order when we talk about hardware!
Also today i received a new HTC 8x as a replacement (finaly after 3services and checks) but as it appears even the new one overheats!
The overheating issues is mainly caused when i play games and use apps after ~10-15 min the phone oveheats very much,a related massive battery consumption appears (like about ~30%/hour).
So after all this i can't imagine that 3devices (from two different manufacturers NOKIA/HTC) BRAND NEW have a hardware defect!
The thing is i want to know if this is cause because of bugs of the OS/Firmware coding or because of the games/apps itself?
In my opinion i thinks that it is caused by the OS or the Firmware because both need very much work and optimization judging the fact that are only 1year old!(in contrast with Android or iOS platforms)
I only want someone with the knoledge to tell what is the main cause of the issue!

Get back to Iphone ..overheating usually cause something to stop working...never experience a glitch or crash due overheating with my WP devices Omnia 7 or Lumia 920 despite they were very very hot due long usage of gps application in hot sunny day or heavy gaming. Discharging over 30% per hour when gaming Asphalt 7 is normal..My girlfriend has Android device - heavy gaming and I get the same discharge rates as you notice.

I definitely will go back to apple products.
I can assure you that with the same gaming usage the iPhone 4s (1430mAh) last longer than Lumia 920 (2000mAh)
The fact is that apple has also many issues like this but in contrast with MS consumers are provided with update fixes very fast!!
As of you Omnia and Lumia920 some people don't have any problem but as you can easily see in any WP8 forum there are many that are suffering from the issue i am describing!
I only wanted a confirmation from someone with the right knowledge that this issues is OS/Firmware related and not hardware failure (judging the fact that 2 HTC 8x and 1 Lumia 920 suffer from the same issue)

I think you misunderstood the answers. No one here said we did not have the problem. In fact we confirmed we do, it is just not a problem. It is normal performance for these phones and we accept and deal with it. My 920 will easily last an 8 hour day and get down to about 25%. I simply bring it home and put it on the charger and forget about it till the next morning. For us owners of WP8 phones this is not a defect nor issue, but simply a function of these phones we work with.

One last qestion that i have is:
Can this be optimized/fixed/improved through OS/Firmware updates?

Regarding heat - no as hardware design 920 was built to bear extensive heat ( check some of disassemble videos on youtube) there are several heat displacement "parts" in it.
For battery life - yes, it can be done by fine tunning radio (gsm) / wifi / bluetooth module driver performance.
For example Amber (GDR2) update was supposed to bring bluetooth low energy (BLE) , but it didn't. Instead it brought other battery consumption, but fashionable features - like glance screen or double tap to unlock
Probably MS will do this in coming GDR3 or WP 8.1.
Is it possible to fix CPU chipset issues through firmware updates or is it always hardware related?
For example Samsung released for the Overheating issues of the Galaxy S4 a firmware update-fix that fixed the issue/bug of the chipset CPU that was causing overheating the phone!
Can this be done to WP too?
P.S Sorry for my stupid questions but i m trying to learn as much as possible and as you can see i don't know much about issues like this!

so you want really to play such games without overheating?! how?! explain me how the CPU and the GPU can be cooled enough so they dont get hot on these kind of games. every CPU on this world gets hotter if its stressed and this is the case with mobile gaming. I dont get your point, this is no OS BUG, it is the reality, touch your monitor from behind, open Aida64 program an look how hot the CPU is, look how hot the HDDs can be, look at any thing that has an chip on it. mobile device have if they have only passive coolers, this is on lumia 920 a copper strip that difuses heat over the back of the device so the chip is not overheating, and overheating means that the device stops, and if you lumia 920 dont stop to work then it is not overheating, it is just heating. overheating means the device turns of like it is on some GPUs where they turn of at overheating at 100 celsius or something like that.
so its not a bug this is just the reality that the device works. if something work then it produces heat.

I'm thinking of buying a GS2 and was curious when I read the review below on Amazon. In particular, the comments in points 1 and 3 regarding CPU/battery usage are a little worrying. Does anyone here agree/disagree with this?
**** 8 WEEK UPDATE ****
Having had this phone for two months now I thought I'd update this. There are several things now about Android and the GS2 in general that are now apparent to me and may be deal-breakers for some of you, though it should be noted that most of these are applicable to all Android phones, and not just the GS2:
1. If you use your phone as your primary music player (e.g. like an iPod) then this is NOT the phone for you - it (as far as I can determine) has no dedicated hardware to decode audio and so it uses a lot of CPU power to play music. The phone will get very hot in your pocket from the CPU heat and within 4 hours the battery will be completely dead. This turned out to be a deal breaker for me as I use my phone extensively for music playback, and the iPhone is still the only phone I know of that gives 40 hours playback.
2. Gapless audio playback is not supported by Android, though some players buffer the next track to simulate the feature (e.g. PowerAmp) if you're willing to pay for them. Gapless playback may be supported in future Android versions, though I don't know how or when one could find out exactly what version of Android will support it.
3. There is a very common bug in the GS2 whereby an application called 'Wifi Sharing' will randomly start itself in the background and consume a huge amount of CPU power (doing nothing) and drain your battery SEVERELY. Your battery will be dead in 6 hours if you don't 'force close' the application. The only solution at the moment if you have this problem is to install something like WatchDog Lite and set up an 'alert' to warn you when Wifi Sharing starts to overtake your CPU so that you can 'force close' it.
4. For all of Android's beauty and the Touchwiz inteface Samsung has put on top of it, I've become aware of some quirks of Android, especially relating to the (VERY) inconsistent use of the menu button. Many applications use this button differently (or not at all), showing different menu items on this button depending on what screen/section you are in on the application. It's definitely not intuitive in this regard compared to iOS, though some applications do use it appropriately and in a logical manner. On the other hand, the 'back' button is fantastic and I think Apple should employ one in their phones, too.
5. Screen burn-in. I've not seen many posts about this around the intertubes, but there is what can only be described as burn-in visible on the notification/status bar of the phone when you are using an application that hides the bar (e.g. having a white section where the status bar would otherwise be displayed). It looks exactly the same as burn-in looks on a plasma television; a slightly dark/grey area where the reception indicator, clock, and other indicators normally display. I suspect this is related to the super AMOLED plus screen technology though most people will probably never notice it - if they did it would be discussed in forums all over the internet.
6. Complications with applications are frequent. Unfortunately it would seem the Android market is severely fragmented due to the shear variety of different Android hardware (i.e. handsets) available. Almost every app you download will have comments attached saying things like 'won't work on HTC Desire... ' or 'If you get the so-and-so issue then uninstall, reset and reinstall' etc., etc., Coming from iOS, this is rather jarring and definitely does not fly on a 500GBP product. Furthermore, with the exception of the very common/popular applications, you are very likely to encounter flakey apps that consume too much battery power or randomly crash/force close (or 'FC' as it's commonly called in the Android community)
7. Speaking of battery power... In my initial review (below) I mentioned how awesome it is to have widgets on the home screen. This remains true, but generally at the expense of battery life. This, combined with the battery drain experienced when using the phone for audio playback will very quickly drain your battery. You will be lucky to last the working day if you also use the phone on the road to receive and respond to emails in addition to your music, surfing, widgets, etc. This may be considered an acceptable trade-off, but no one warns you of it beforehand (at least I wasn't aware of it, and just assumed I'd still get at least a full day out of the battery). I've since learned Android phones have a horrible reputation for poor battery life. Expect to last around 12 hours with medium-light use.
With all the above said, this remains an outstanding phone and by all accounts one of the very best phones available on the market. It is super-fast - faster than my laptop - and the physical design is beautiful. For any existing Android user this phone is a dream. For people coming from iOS, I hope the above update has warned you of some of the limitations on this otherwise outstanding product.

Is the comment regarding audio playback accurate? (i.e. the lack of dedicated hardware results in excessive CPU usage and battery drain)?
Sounds like an apple employee got bored...
The SGS2 is great for music playback. I use mine every day in work, for 8 hours and only ever get down to about 50%, and that's with some web browsing thrown in and texting.
Also, i thought it decoded most if not all audio formats fine? I have mp3, wav and flac files in my playlists and no problems there at all.
On my one hour daily commute..i listen to music plus screen on time at like 60% full brightness when i switch between songs whilst browsing between my news and football apps..and i probably use about 10-15%.
Wifi sharing annoys me..but i didnt notice extra large battery drops.. when i first got my phone i had wifi on all the time and it was fine. Since then i rooted my phone and 'froze' wifi sharing...so when my wifi is on...i don;t have to worry about it.
The super amoled screen gives this phone an edge on battery life above other android phones even though it still isn't as good as i hoped. And the standby time is really good.
Remember iphone battery is not removable so once you ruin it with the inevitable half charges and overnight charges your in the sh*t. You can atleast buy a spare battery for androids and keep it in your back pocket. lol jus read what i wrote...this phone has turned me into a bit of a fan boy

i dont understand this the sgs2 has a dedicated yamaha audio chip it isnt running as good as the wolfson from the sgs1 but it is still pretty decent in terms of audio quality
as for cpu useage and excessive drain on the battery i use music all day at work and its fine , it doesnt get hot , it doesnt drain battery badly , it doesnt run cpu at maximum
i use my sgs2 as my main audio device as i have bluetooth stereos in the car and home and some ok headhones from work and i dont have his troubles at all

The sound card is different from the SGS1, which was considered more efficient. This is why a few sound amplifier apps refuse to work with the SGS2 (Voodoo Sound) etc.
Obviously Samsung decided to cheap out on that aspect.
I have not seen any color burn ins, or anything like that.
You have to remember that people who dont like a product are more likely to write a review .Saying that i use Amazon reviews to get an idea about a product or alternatives a lot before buying .

Hello, i'm looking to buy a new phone and the nokia lumia has caught my attention.
I've been reading about it and understand that we'll be seeing 2 major updates this year.
Will the lumia 800 support the new windows mobile 8 platform?
I expect it to support Tango, but what about Apollo?
Or should i just wait for next generation nokia?
No one knows the answer to that question yet. But if any current wp7 device is going to get that update, the Lumia 800 is probably it. It is almost a wp7 equivalent of a nexus device.
But if you don't want this phone as it is now, don't buy it ;-)
I'm just waiting for nokia to start pushing out the current firmware update to my Cyan... Still only got the 7740 firmware with 8107.79 OS.
What are your experiences with the phone?
Do the phones that sell here in Denmark also have issues with batterylife, random reboots etc.?
I'm experiencing pretty bad battery time now. Yesterday I had to charge it twice to get through a full day. That is unacceptable! My old X10 holds battery for a day and half easily doing the same tasks.
I hope Nokia is very very aware of these issues and is working their asses off to get it solved.
I bought mine in Germany back in November. Kept it on 2G here in Denmark until the update that fixed the battery issues (last update).
After that update I have kept it on 3G and gotten about one and a half or two days of battery life from it.
I don't know about the status of the battery fix in Denmark. They may very well be on the phones in store (go check ). I found the demo fw for Denmark on the fw site Nokia has.
BUT if you want the phone look outside Denmark.. They are horribly overpriced here.. Some places twice the price of the same phone in Germany or England.
Regarding update to Apollo.. I see no technical reason for lumia 800 not to receive the update.
Hahah slap af en dansker tråd
Translation: "For danes only"
Roughly the same story as jlor except I bought mine in Denmark. Like arkedk, I had very poor battery life on my first phone so I returned it. The new one has up to around one and a half day of battery life with normal use. Roughly the same as with the old iPhone 3GS. I think there is a very high error rate on this battery type.
And yeah, it must be pretty popular here in Denmark
Although I'm not so sure that I should have bought this phone.
Microsoft have confirmed that all current wp7 handsets will get apollo in a response to Eldar (aka the spaz idiot who sould be shot). Tango int going to be that big really just about adding more languages and cheaper hansets to get a wider market. Apollo on the other hand looks to be even bigger than mango
Thanks for them answers.
Definatly gonna get me a winphone one day. But i'll wait a bit longer until either a new version of Lumia 800 comes out or nokia/ms whichever it is releases a firmware that fixes all these issues. Battery and camera in particular.
I'll stick to my damaged htc hero for now

Ok, I'm going to elaborate this a bit.
Why I am disappointed:
This phone is supposed to be Microsofts and Nokias big gamble to reclaim the mobile phone market. Nokia economic situation isn't very good to say the least but they are still the largest manufacturer of mobile phones world wide. However Apple is close behind and so is HTC and Samsung and they are gaining market shares.
So I had expected this phone to be Microsofts version of a nexus phone. A showcase phone if you like to benchmark other Windows phones against. In my oppionion they failed to do this by rushing it to the market. There are just too many flaws for me to be completely happy with it.
I read a lot of good reviews of WP7 devices regarding their battery life. It is supposed to lightweight and without the pletora of third party battery draining services running in the background. And it is. Many WP7 devices get great battery life. But this phone does not have good battery life. Hands down, you are not going anywhere over night with this phone without a charger. Even if you dont use it at all, you will still be cutting it very close. Even with my SGS 2 running overclocked at 1600 MHz I could easily go up to 3 days if I was mindful of battery my usage.
The camera is usable. It's not great but good enough if the motive is more important than the quality of the picture. But it's not going to wow anyone. I had expected more from Nokia though. I am used to Nokia cameras beeing the best on the market from previous experience.
Sound quality in the jack stick is an insult. It's horrible even if you have very low standards and it will hurt your ears. If you buy this phone, go to a Telenor store and get the black BH-111 bluetooth headset for 199 kr. It has a decent sound output if you throw away the earbuds that come with it and get some better ones. (The tranciever is detachable and has a mini-jack output and a build in microphone)
But there are some good things about the phone too:
WP7 is an absolute joy to use. I love it. I come from the SGS 2 and I did a lot of modding, exceeding 2 GB of custom firmware downloads each month. But I don't miss that at all with this phone, because everything just runs smoothly. I have had a few app crashes, mainly starting settings and the browser, but I can live with that.
I like the design and the build quality is pretty good although the buttons do feel flimsy on some devices. I am not too fussed about that though. The curves makes the phone nice to hold, but the 4 corners aren't that comfortable when you hold it for longer periods of time like 5 minutes plus. The curved glass is great though and it sits close to flush with the rest of the phone. The plastic feels nice when you hold it and looks pretty good too.
Call quality is pretty good in my oppinion and so is the antenna. I get better signal strength with this phone than I did with the SGS 2.
Bottom line: I expected a better device from Nokia. There is no way in h*** this phone will last for two weeks on stand by which is in fact what they claim on their web site and even if you call Nokia Care.

Good idea ;-)
The batter is bad compared to other devices yes. My Xperia Play I could easily get two days out of. Even three. Even so I charged every single night because I want full juice at the start of every day. So the worse battery life does not really affect me even though I know it's there. The camera and audio is confirmed by Nokia to be adressed on future seperate updates that hopefully will fix the issues.
But whats the point really if the majority of the userbase are still complaining about bad batterylife.
I'd say camera/audio comes in second until the phone can last more than 24hours on whats supposed to be regular usage. I hope its faulty software and not hardware.
For all 3 parts, battery/audio/camera
Amen.
I'm not too optimistic about the battery issue being software related.
I agree the battery is very bad. I'm coming from a phone that used 1% battery in 3 hours standby time. With very minimal use I could use that phone for a week without charge but I charged it every night anyway. Coming to this is a world of difference.
I'm just saying that I can live with it.
With light to medium use I am getting one and a half days use on 3G. My LG 900 struggled to last 10 hours.
got this phone 3 days ago and experiencing absolutely retarded battery life. not getting more than 6-7 hours with MINIMAL usage and all chats logged off. WTF Nokia?
PS: My other phone is the Galaxy Note which has phenomenal battery life.
Im not from Denmark...but I am close enough
I bought the NL800 a few days ago with fw 11501, and have no problems with battery at all, and I am on 3g all the time, I play music, surf, update for email every 1 hour, and my battery last aprox. 1 and a half day..And that is what I would expect from this device with my use.
Only thing bugging me right now, is of course the brightness bug and the poor quality in music playback. But those are scheduled to be fixed, so if that don't take forever, then the NL800 is a keeper for me.
But on another side..the screen is a tad small, but I will get used to it...if not, I will probably get the NL900/910 or w/e they decide to call it in europe
Same as above, i have firmware 11501, and at first battery was bad. But the more i use the phone let it go right down and charge it seems to have been last longer. So far i have been using it for 15 hours. Listening to music, facebook, emails as soon as they come in. 3G, texts, facebook chat. I am a really heavy user just now as its the honeymoon period. But anyway, the only thing that is really annoying me is the camera and the audio. I listen to my audio with headphones on (Dr. Dre Beats) so i get the base im after. But it shouldn't take a £80 pair of headphones to get the audio quality im after. Nokia get an update out now!
my lumia will arrive tomorrow, and then i will test the battery life agains my radar and my titan, my titan's battery last for atleast two days with minimal usage. same goes for the radar.
Hi all,
Got my 920 a few days ago, and while it's a beautiful phone, I'm finding the battery life to be awful.
I've only installed a few apps on it, otherwise it's vanilla. With WiFi and GPS off and only moderate Internet usage (mostly Facebook and IM+) i get a max of 10 hours out of it.
My Galaxy Note easily does twice that with the same usage.
Is there anything I need to check/look for, are there apps that show what's chewing through my battery so much?
I love the phone but that sort of battery life means it can never replace my Note as my main phone.
Thanks!
I should add, it's running the Portico update. No crashes or random reboots that I've seen.
I have only had mine for a few days, but I have found with all WP8 devices (and I have tried most) a hard reset made a difference to battery life. Annoying, but true it seems, well, true for me. I have no idea if it is a placebo but might be worth trying if you can be bothered.
For your info, I am getting good battery life on my 920.
You need to discharge and recharge the battery a few times before the battery life gets better. In about a week you should find the battery life improves.
It was the same for WP7 too..... The software will calibrate the battery over time.

I actually did a hard reset when I first got the phone home, out of habit really. I don't mind doing it again, but maybe I'll give the battery a few more days and see what happens.
Also check your background apps.
it'll get better
when I first got my lumia 920 the battery life was shorter than my old NL 900.. but after a week or so and after I did a deep cycle now the battery will easily last for 48 hours... in battery settings it usually shows 4-5 days :good:
battery life is hit or miss, some days you'll get wonderful battery life and others its horrible, I know that its hard to measure battery life because you just cant replicate the exact same usage everyday. I find it hard to believe that the galaxy s3 (basically the same hardware) has better battery life, battery is only 100 maH more.
I honestly believe its a operating system/ application issue, I believe that there are some applications that are cycling and wasting precious juice from the battery. better coded apps/ better OS control will really be a big deal in the next os upgrade.

I've found turning off background tasks which are not required makes a big difference on the battery. Each time I install a new app, I look at the background tasks and see that it doesn't get added. Only tasks I have running are weather and a news reader app.
Also, I will not allow location on apps that don't need to. Searching for location when an app opens also drains a battery somewhat.
That being said, with my use, I easily get 2+ days (48+ hrs) of battery life.
May be it have to be synced
In my opinion, one reason why this phone need the run in for the battery life is in the first few days it need to be synced with many clouds, facebook, facebook photo, nokia drive....etc. As this will make poor the battery life in the first run in. But after one week everything done, the battery life becomes better. Just guess.
I've also noticed that with bluetooth turned off I get substantial more life out of the battery(but I tend to forget to turn it on when getting in my car, then I dont get calls on my cars bluetooth). I agree with disabling push and do a manual poll on your email servers, I dont have facebook or any of that stuff on the phone. Im mainly on twitter and on my email.
from time to time I see the Location services running when I unlock the phone, I've disabled the location service on bing search but that still comes up from time to time. Like I mentioned before I think the OS has tons of pros and like any other OS in its "early stages"(I say this because windows mobile has been out for some time pre iOS and Android, but it will get better over time as the company realizes main stream OS are getting replaced as the go to home PC.
My experience with Nokia Phones is they need 1 or 2 weeks to get the full battery life....
The first 4-5 days they really have a horrible battery live.. But as I said it's getting better after 1-2 weeks...
BTW I'm really impressed with the battery life of my HTC 8S, I'm getting 2-3 days out of it with heavy usage...
My Lumia 920 achieves a little bit more than 1 day..
I've had the phone since it was released(when it really bad battery problems), I was going to go with the 8x but I really love the camera on the lumia 920.....
Ok for the past two days I've been using my phone with bluetooth off and i've been getting really good battery life, a friend of mine has a surface rt and he was having an issue with the battery depleting even when he left the device on sleep for hrs, he noticed that after disabling bluetooth the issue with the battery went away, this clearly points out an issue with the os and the handling of Bluetooth.
Surface RT and Lumia 920 have a totally different OS i don't think you can compare them that easy...
And it well known the Bluetooth deceases the battery life of every smartphone... It's the same with NFC (Tap&Send) and super sensitive touch or Wifi...
Just turn off the things you don't need...
My Samsung Note 10.1 tablet has no noticeable difference with Bluetooth on or off (that is, not actually using it, just having it enabled). It's using BT 4.0 which has very good power efficiency.
Any idea what revision of BT our Lumias have?
It also makes a difference if you switch your bluetooth on to be visible or not...
Ii is the same with Wifi you can activate to be notified when open networks are around... If you do so.. your wifi will use more power because it is constantly searching for new hotspots...
Well, it's been a few days & recharges, and it seems the battery is getting better.
Thanks for all the suggestions from everyone. I was severely disappointed with the initial battery life, and while it's getting better, I hope it keeps improving. Switching background data services such as push mail and chat makes sense when it comes to preserving battery of course, but so far from all the smartphones I've owned, this is the worst performing of all in terms of battery. I don't want to have to manually check mail or log in/out of chat, since that defeats the purpose of having a smartphone imho.
It's the only thing I have against the Lumia so far... even though WP8 is not as customisable as my Android phone, I certainly appreciate the design and how it works. I'll just keep crossing fingers for more battery conditioning
I think there is something like a help app from nokia on the phone...
You can disable the live tiles you don't use and the automatic xbox live sync service...
I wouldn't totally disable email sync... I just reduce the syncing interval...
If you have a lot of email accounts (maybe more) it even makes sense forwarding them all to a new email account and syncing all your emails
with this 1 account...
There are a lot of dirty little tricks to improve your battery life... Maybe every
single one don't make much difference... But all of them do...
With a lot of frustration, I have been experiencing high battery drain also, with the phone staying warm even while idle.
Following various comments, fixes, could be' on various forums, I hard reset my new, less than one week old, phone.
I was kind of annoyed, surprised it took a very long time to recover, with a picture of gears churning on the screen.
Finally it booted up with a message, reset or restore. Wasn't expecting the choice. I chose restore to see what's up.
There was an amazing amount of stuff to restore.
After restore completed, my phone was still having battery drain issues. I decided to check out what this back up and restore thing was.
Pardon me I never read the manual. No need to go into discussion of the process.
I then chose to disable back up and restore, soft reset, and boom. Battery usage is now at -2%/hr. instead of -12-20% idle.
Have any of you tried this?

Hi, does anyone happen to have this phone model and facing issues?
The battery life is non-existent for me (dies in hours) and the phone heats up incredibly quickly. I did head down to Docomo to check if there is an issue but the technicians said that the battery is perfectly fine and the phone heats up cos its waterproof and hence doesn't have good ventilation.
Anyone has any luck with fixing these issues?
battery drain
Hi!
Yes i had the same problem my battery went down from 100% to 5-6 % in the matter of about 3-4 hours.I did find the problem (at least in my case) the native "mail" app draws all the power out constantly looking for new mail.I stopped the program (couldn't delet because i'm not rooted yet) and all the problems are gone. Now i go from 100% at 8 in the morning to about 25% at 8 at night with moderate use.Try it i hope it will help!
I have similar battery problem on my phone F-02E and I believe it is the tegra 3 processor. Itt gets so hot and heat drains the battery. When mine heats up to 46 degree, it restarts; I really hate this behaviour.
The phone would have been amazing otherwise.
Anyhow, I will never buy a Tegra phone again, at least not in the forseeable future.
I'm thinking of buying a F-02E just for gaming when I'm on the road, as I want something smaller than a tablet that has a tegra 3 processor (I have THD games purchased from my old tab). Can anyone comment on gaming performance?

Don't make the mistake. Why do you think the price is so low even with the specs. The main problem is that the heat distribution was not well made so the phone gets very hot very quickly and when it is around 38 degrees, you cxan feel it throttling and by the time the temperature gets to 43, it starts restarting.
Afterthought; the scernario I described is when one is connected to 3g internet. If internet is turned off, I think one can play game for a while before it gets hot. However, I will not recommend the phone. Try instead Sharp SH-06E. It is not so expensive anymore.

Hello, we have mutual problems about docomo f10d , actually im finding Online shop to buy new battery for my F10d Phone, cuz my battery drained and started to bubbles can you recommend me some stores that available In asian countries? i can't go to japan by myself even when im with somebody , i just need a battery PLS REPLY
I was quite happy with my Lumia 920 and eagerly installed the Black update the other day.
But soon I started to notice serious heating problems from time to time at the upper part where the GSM chip is located, accompanied by quick battery drain (from 90%+ to 15% in a few hours, without doing anything but a few calls and some email checking).
I changed max speed from 4G to 3G and stopped all background tasks, disabled tap&send, but nothing made any noticable difference.
Then I noticed on my Femto Cell (a mini in-hous GSM transceiver) the 'connected' light was on while my phone had a working WiFi connection at the same time. This indicated that the GSM was on while I had a WiFi connection. Only rebooting the phone would disconnect the 3G and use just WiFi. But after some time and using the phone, the 3G connection would come back on (light on the Femto Cell turns on) and the heating and draining would start again.
This looks to me like a serious bug in my (hardware revision 6.5.0.2) Lumia 920!
Anyone else experiencing this with the Black update?
lumia 820 high battery drain after black update
After upgrading from Amber to black I have high battery drain and heating up near the camera lens on the lumia 820, my wife has the same phone and the same problem after the update.
It seems as if Nokia aren't listening as several people have posted same issue on the Nokia community and no-one from Nokia has replied, I don't know where to go from here as many people have said a hard reset does not fix the issue and I don't want to have to re-setup my phone and lose all data!!!

Yes, looks like we're not alone with this issue. I can assure you, none of the usual tricks will fix this. No hard reset, no background tasks disable, no 3G or 2G max speed setting, etc.
not on my phone... working much better and battery last longer... but i make hard reset before upgrade to Black... not after....
also not use any battery status apps... this c**ps of software was drain batery on my lumia 920...

I know, certainly not every 920 has this issue but there are too many people reporting similar issues to ignore. Some of my colleagues having a 920 have no problem, others have similar issues.
BTW: What is the hardware revision of your Lumia 920? Mine is 6.5.0.2.

Small difference, but could be something...
Others having 6.5.0.2 without battery drain issues?
same here in France after switching from SFR to BOUYGUE TELECOM. more than 2 days before the switch and less than one day after the switch)
A matter of provider ?
Same issue, same h/w revision

I also have the 6.5.0.2 hardware revision WITH the battery drain issue
The thing is, I sent my phone back to Nokia for assessment.. they deemed the battery was faulty - charged me $90 for a replacement battery, and now a few weeks later I'm having the same issue again...
Really starting to get annoyed.

I am beginning to suspect a design error in specific hardware models. There are too many people with battery drain issues to ignore. At the same time many people seem to have no problem.
Have you tried to revert back to an older firmware version? That could make a difference... I will try it when I find some spare time.

I agree, there is something not right.
No I haven't tried an older firmware version. Wouldn't that require flashing the phone? Although, my phone has been back to Nokia roughly 3-4 times now, and each time it comes back with a different firmware. I've had the system board replaced, lcd assembly replaced, battery replaced and something else I believe.
You'd think after all these repairs I'd have a phone that actually works correctly...

So... after all this you are still having the same problem???
Must be 'user error' then.... An installed app is causing the drain most probably. I bet you have WhatsApp installed??
Rule number 1... DON'T USE WHATSAPP!!!! It will drain your battery in next to no time.....
My 920 has been perfect from Day 1. I have had none of the problems or battery drain that have been posted here or on other forums. As I said 'user error'....

No, it's not a user error - I have uninstalled all my apps and my battery is still crap. So I put my apps back on because you know, what's the point of having a smartphone if you haven't got any apps...
And no, I actually don't have WhatsApp installed...
By the way, too many users have reported these issues - so it can't just be 'user error'. Some people do get Lumia's that are perfect, others do not, that's just how it is.

Correct. One scenario I've tested is a hard reset and just the default setup (only added WiFi and mobile network). Also did full discharge/charge cycle. Battery drain was about 1% better with no apps and no (non-system) background tasks, but still a lot higher than acceptable.
And of course, until recently my 920 worked flawless with all the apps and background tasks active...
I find that I have more issue with heating when using the Qi charging plates as the phone can be warm when removed from the plate. After several successive uses the phone does not cool entirely and this is when I notice a much faster battery drain during moderate use (excluding gaming which is always warms up the phone and drains the battery). Charging the phone with the USB adapter on occasion seems to calm the phone down and it is cool after completely charging.
Hope this helps.

Yes, I too noticed thesubstantial heating when charging wirelessly. So I stopped using the charging pad altogether...

I also stopped using the wireless charging stand as I noticed the phone was getting hot, and also I seem to be getting a somewhat slightly better battery life with a USB connection.
