[GUIDE] New Z Ultra Owner - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi!!
Just got your Xperia Z Ultra and start looking on how to root, unlock your bootloader and do everything you can for start playing with your phone with a maximum of security? You are at the good place!!
First of all, install PC Companion, you just need to plug your phone on the PC and follow instructions on your phone and PC.
To make things clear, I didn't do any of those tools and link the threads where they come from, so if you want to thanks devs do it there. I tried all of them without any problem and I do this thread for help people who know nothing about Sony Android devices or simply want to find everything in one place. They are fully working, so if things go wrong while following explanations this is bad luck, you did something wrong and/or forgot to do something. Neither I nor the Devs can be kept responsible for what you are doing on your device.

Root and TA Backup

Youtube tutorial made by hamdogg
Thanks a lot hamdogg
First tool you need to know when you own a Sony Android device is Flashtool. I invite every owner wishing to root, unlock or mess with your phone to install this program and install Flashtoo-drivers.exe (directory: C:\Flashtool\Drivers\). This tool is a jewel, you can flash any factory firmware, unlock your bootloader and cherry on the cake, make a TA backup, that will backup all your TA partitions including locked bootloader with DRM keys. Keys those are necessary to enable X-Reality and bravia engine.
But to be able to do a TA backup you need first to root your Z Ultra.
- First of all you need to enable USB debugging, you will find it on /Settings/Developer options. For enable Developer options you need to go on /Settings/About phone/ and tap 8 times on Build number.
Mod edit - VRoot links and install guide removed
until such time as the validity of this software can be determined due to some security concerns regarding this application.
- OK, now SuperSu closed by itself and disappeared, no stress it's normal, just restart your phone.
- After full reboot, open supersu again, and it won't ask you for update binary anymore. Just close it.
- Download Titanium Backup Root and open it.
- Just be patient, promt for root access can take time, but it'll come.
Enjoy!!
I just updated from .526 to .532 and done this process and it was successful at the first try. If it doesn't work just try again. It work on any firmware version and country
All is thanks to @nickylou88 for this process.
And if you need more support you can look at this thread you have all information you need inside. The OP introduce another program, but VRoot is the less complicate to use and work as well.
Now you can make a TA backup following the instructions on this post.
Ok, now your phone is rooted, but more important you made a backup of your TA partition. It is important because if you soft brick your phone or wish to restore your bootloader to locked state if you unlocked it now you can.
I am not doing a TA backup tuto as the one on the original thread is more than complet
Here there is the other program that allow you to make a TA backup.
hamdogg provide us a really good Youtube tuto.

[B]Unlock bootloader and Install Recovery[/B]
Sony offer us a way to unlock our boot loader here but we have Flashtool, so why not use it instead? Easy and fast.
-Just click on “BLU” icon next to the flash icon
-Remember how to enter flashmod.
-Remember how to enter fastboot mod
-Click on Get Unlock Code then follow instructions on Sony website
-Enter the Code Sony sent on your email and let the program do.
When done boot your device you are unlocked.
Now it is time to flash Recovery. For do so you need to have adb and fastboot on your PC, all the information you need for install it and more can be find Here.
Another Youtube tuto from hamdogg
To flash recovery you need to put advanced stock kernel v5.img to “C:\SDK ANdroid\sdk\platform-tools\” then type :
Code:
fastboot flash boot C:\SDK ANdroid\sdk\platform-tools\advanced stock kernel v5.img
Reboot your phone to system a first time then turn it off.
To enter CMW:
-Turn on your phone as usually
-On Sony boot Screen look when the led turn purple push volume up
-Enjoy CMW
To enter TWRP:
-Turn on your phone as usually
-On Sony boot screen look when the led turn purple push volume down
-Enjoy TWRP

[B] Flash or update a firmware from another country [/B]
While looking on the forum it is possible for you to find someone posting the latest firmware, but when you plug your phone on your PC and look for update with PC Companion it tell you have the latest firmware. It simply because the firmware came out first on another country, you can simply wait for it to come in your country. If you don't want to wait you have 2 possibilities.
- Download the .ftf and flash it via Flashtool
Follow step by step this post
- Modify your CDA code on your build.prop but need to be rooted
Open build.prop with any explorer with root permission (I use root explorer) and modify the following values with the values you need:
Reboot your phone then plug it to your PC and update with PC Companion.

YEs, you do not lose it. Nobody using this tool loosed it. It doesn't touch at your TA partitions. After rooting if you are really that much concerned about your DRM keys you can make a TA backup. SuperSU is an application so it doesn't require anything from the bootloader.

Hello Everyone,
Lately, I have seen lots of confusion regarding the ICS update that is to be released by Sony.

How to Update your phone normally by Sony Method?
Go here for the list of SI numbers that are eligible for the update. Check your SI number by opening the back cover of your phone, and removing the battery and seeing the number underneath. In case this SI number matches with one on the list at Sony Website, connect your phone to the Computer, and you should be able to update using PCC or SUS.
___________________
What are SI numbers and CDF numbers?
Phones of each region has a specific SI number as well as a CDF number. That is, to every SI number there is a corresponding CDF number.
To know your SI number, we need open the back cover of the phone, and remove the battery, and see the number underneath.
Corresponding to this SI number you have a CDF number. For knowing your CDF number, open the dail pad of your phone, and dial:
Code:
*#*#7378423#*#*
then go to Service Info > Software Info. There, the Customization Version is your CDF number.
___________________
How to Force update your phone?
Sony releases the update for an SI number... This means that all phones having that SI number or the corresponding CDF number is eligible for the update.
The software PCC or SUS, reads the CDF number from build.prop file in your phone memory. If we can edit our CDF number and change it to one whiose corresponding SI has recieved the update, we can fool SUS or PCC and get the update.
For more info and a list of CDF numbers: Here

Can I root my phone after Update to 4.0.4?
After Sony released the 4.0.3 update, DoomLord and team created an easy root toolkit for both locked and unlocked bootloader: Here.
However, the 4.0.4 update is immune to this method of root. So to root on 4.0.4 some workaround methods have been brought up.
Scenario I: You are in a rooted GB firmware. Here . Read Post #3 to know how the method works. Go Here to get a step by step Tutorial.
Scenario II: You are in ICS non rooted Firmware. Reported to work on the Xperia Pro: Here. Recommended only for testers and devs currently

How will Rooting on unrootable 4.0.4 works?
Explanation for someone who is in KG of Android School.
Explaination the method of root, as given by puppet13th.
This method involves the following steps:
1. Creation of a file [/data/local.prop] which lets specific applications access the root of your device. For this you need to have root access. That is, you create this file when you are on .58 or .62 or whatever, rooted GB firmware. So, for rooting your 4.0.4 you need to start from GB itself.
2. Updating to ICS, but making sure you preserve the file /data/local.prop. For this you update making sure you do not do a factory reset.
So after this step, you have a working unrooted ICS ROM, but with a gate which can allow su binary and superuser.apk to be pushed.
3. Now, you can push the su binary and superuser.apk files, into the phone memory through the gateway you created earlier.
Now you have a working 4.0.4 ROM with SU Binary and Superuser.apk planted. That is a rooted 4.0.4 ROM.
Head over to puppet's thread to get the required files and a step by step procedure of the above technique. Puppet's Tutorial going over your head? See here for another tutorial of the same procedure
______________
Explaination the method of root, as given by AeonWorld. [Note: This method is reported working with Xperia Pro (as well as Xperia Arc, Arc S, Neo, Neo V, and Ray), and should work with the mdpi devices too. In case it doesn't work and you end up with a broken phone, you will need to flash some working firmware ftf on your device to get it working again] Recommended only for testers and devs currently
1. Update your device to ICS 4.0.4.
2. Download the Xperia Neo 4.0.3 ftf, and flash only the kernel in the package.
To do this, after selecting the 4.0.3 Neo ftf file in Flashtool, make sure the options of Flashtool look as follows:
3. Turn on Your phone, and you will see black screen, as the kernel doesn't match with the ROM. But ADB will work even then.
4. Run the DoomLord's Toolkit for root, and it will work with the 4.0.3 kernel, and SU binary files and SuperUser will be pushed to the phone memory.
At this stage, you have a "not working" device with a rooted 4.0.4 ROM and the 4.0.3 Kernel.
5. Again flash only the kernel of 4.0.4 ROM from the 4.0.4 ftf for your device (Using flashtool as you did before)
At the end of this step, you will have a working 4.0.4 Rooted ROM with the 4.0.4 kernel.
Go to AeonWorld's thread (for Xperia Pro) to get the required file and more information.

Banor means
The meaning of Banor come may come from a craft, such as the name "Brewster" which refers to a female brewer. Some of these trade-based family names may be a profession in a different language. This is why it is essential to understand the country of origin of a name, and the languages used by it's family members. Many names like Banor originate from religious texts such as the Bible, the Bhagavadgītā, the Quran, and so forth. Often these surnames relate to a religious sentiment such as "Favored of God".

Turning on my pc again to help you. Wait. I will come back soon. .
Thanks,

Edit:
Okay, So here's what you need to do.
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26914104#post26914104, and download the file called Xperia-ROOT.zip as uploaded by puppet.
Then extract it, and run the file 01-local-prop.cmd. It will ask you to connect your phone to the PC. Do it when prompted. Make Sure USB debugging is checked "on", and turn on the screen and then continue.
The batch file 01-local-prop.cmd will now try to replace the /data/local.prop with a new one. For that, it will ask for root permissons from Superuser, and Superuser in turn will ask you. So you will have to allow. (That's why you turned the screen of your device on).
When the batch run is complete, you have the necessary local.pro in /data.
All this you do when you are on a rooted .58 or .62 or whatever GB firmware.
Then, you wait for Sony to release the update.
Once Sony releases the update, you update using PCC or SUS or Flashtool, but you must make sure that you do not factory reset. That is you preserve the edited local.prop.
Once the update is done you will be running a 4.0.4 ROM which is unrooted.
Now run the file 02-push-root-files.cmd from the zip file puppet gave. Follow the onscreen instructions, and the batch file will push superuser and the SU binary files thus giving you root.
At the end of this step, you will be running a 4.0.4 ROM with root.
Okay, I typed a lot. Read it and you will understand. And if you still don't ask me again. I will try to help. And obviously you can ask master Puppet13th and I am sure he will help you too.

[WARNING][INFO] Before unlocking/flashing BACKUP TA PARTITION!

<<<<<<INFORMATION>>>>>>This should be the first procedure you undertake on your Xperia ZU.
The TA partition contains all your DRM keys for the Bravia/X-Reality Engine.
The first time you mess with your phone by unlocking the bootloader, these DRM keys will be deleted!
Before you mess with your phone in any capacity, you must make a backup of these DRM keys, or you may loose them forever.
<<<<<<HOW TO>>>>>>There are a couple of ways to acheive this. Number one is the prefered choice.

Backup TA for Sony Xperia
Backup TA can backup and restore the TA partition of the device. When you create a backup before unlocking for the first time, then you will be able to restore to full factory state (including a locked bootloader). This means all DRM keys intact, Bravia Engine working in Album and last but not least your warranty when needed :highfive:.

Backing up your TA partition will give you a backup of your locked device with DRM keys for Bravia/X-Reality Engine
- To be able to backup your TA partition you need to switch to the "pro mode" in FlashTool
- Open file menu and click "switch pro"

I did not do this process when I unlocked my bootloader 4 weeks ago, it did not exist. Now I am using firmware .510 and in Settings --> Display --> X-Reality for Mobile I can check/un-check the option with no problem, but clearly my DRM information is gone, so why am I able to do it?, thanks
Things may have changed in 510.
Someone will be along soon to answer your question.

I was wondering if a mod could make this sticky?

<<<<<<INFORMATION>>>>>>This should be the first procedure you undertake on your Xperia ZU.
The TA partition contains all your DRM keys for the Bravia/X-Reality Engine.
The first time you mess with your phone by unlocking the bootloader, these DRM keys will be deleted!
Before you mess with your phone in any capacity, you must make a backup of these DRM keys, or you may loose them forever.
<<<<<<HOW TO>>>>>>There are a couple of ways to acheive this. Number one is the prefered choice.

I didn't unlock the boatloader, but I did flash the .510 update... would this have also deleated my DRM keys?
If you flashed the official firmware then your DRM keys will be safe
God,I had unlock without backing up ta!
i already root my XZU using vroot,
then i check for boot loader status and the result is :
"Bootloader unlock allowed - Yes"
But i want to make sure again,
is there any way to check that DRM Keys is not deleted ?
Thanks in advance.
That's just saying that you have the possibility to unlock your bootloader. It's not saying that your bootloader is actually unlocked. So your keys should be safe.
Back them up now!

That's the question. Backup-TA requires root access, but rooting requires bootloader to be unlocked, and by unlocking bootloader it will wipe your TA partition. So what's the point here?
You do not need to have an unlocked bootloader to root
working perfectly after installing busybox. Don't know why but flashtool couldn't instal it, had to do it manually.
I'm got a problem when backing up TA my ZU. There is a message like "device is not properly rooted". i must root my phone? Help me, plz!

How does this apply to an unlocked Xperia Z Ultra?
Just wanted to confirm this is applicable to unlocked device? I'm assuming I still need to unlock bootloader on "carrier unlocked device' and thus perform all TA backup steps.

how about we use this method to root ZU , DRM key will lose ?

[GUIDE] Getting Your Ultra Rooted And Ready For Flashing [UPDATED]

GETTING YOUR ULTRA ROOTED AND
READY FOR FLASHING
This guide should in theory make your Ultra ready for flashing custom ROMs, and with that said...

devices, or whatever you might end up with.

BACKUP YOUR TA PARTITION BEFORE YOU UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER
IF YOU'RE NEW AROUND HERE AND YOU WANT TO ROOT .757, DOWNGRADE TO .532 AND ROOT, AND THEN BACKUP YOUR TA PARTITION. PROCEED TO UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER, UPGRADE TO .757 AGAIN AND ROOT BY FOLLOWING THE SHORT GUIDE HERE.
ROOT ALL THE THINGS:
Thanks to @geohot, we're now able to root (almost) all the things, meaning there is now one tool for rooting. This tool doesn't touch the bootloader, so it also works on locked bootloaders. Be sure to backup your TA partition after you've rooted (in case you want to unlock the bootloader). You can find the tool here.
Note: This tool will not work on the GPe model.
ROOTING .108:
Go to this thread and follow the steps.
ROOTING .757:
Same procedure as with .681, so just go to this thread and follow the steps. Requires an unlocked bootloader.
ROOTING .681:
Rooting .681 (first KitKat build) is pretty straight forward and requires an unlocked bootloader.
After that, just flash the kernel and then SuperSU. You can download and follow the short guide here. The kernel includes Recovery.
ROOTING .290/.136:
.290
• Unlocked bootloader: Follow this thread.
• Locked bootloader: Follow this thread.
.136
• Unlocked bootloader: Follow this thread.
ROOTING .532:
• Use this tool to root
ROOTING GPe:
GPe OWNERS: DO NOT TRY TO FLASH FTFs OR OTHER "XPERIA" ROMs AND KERNELS.
YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
Go to this thread and follow the steps. Thanks to @blueether.
DOWNGRADING:
• Download and install Flashtool (if you're running Windows 8, follow this installation guide) (Jump down to "Part 2" of the guide)
• If you're having issues with driver installation, install this one.
If you have issues, or simply have no clue how to install ADB and Fastboot, install and run this.
• Download NUT's 532 firmware from here
• Flash it by following this short guide
BACKUP TA PARTITION:
The TA partition holds all your unique DRM keys, and X-Reality won't work without it (except if you're on .681 or later).
Once you lose it, you can't get it back, so back it up and upload it to your Dropbox or something. So how do you backup your TA partition?
• Download this tiny tool on your computer and run it.
Here's a video tutorial by @hamdogg
CHANGE CDA (OLD):
This step is no longer necessary.
• Install a file explorer from the Play Store. I recommend Solid Explorer or ES File Explorer.
• Navigate to /system and open build.prop
• Change your CDA to: C6833_1275-8026 (there are three different places this has to be changed.
Just take your time and try to find something that resembles the CDA code above.
• Next you'll want to find "ro.somc.customerid" and change it to 436
• Next you'll want to find "ro.semc.version.cust_revision" and change it to R11A
• Now reboot your device
• The OTA update should arrive now. If it doesn't, go to "Update Center" (app) and manually refresh.
• Update to 257
• The root app (i'm not sure what app it installs) might be gone, so just install
SuperSU from the Play Store if it's not in your app drawer anymore. Update binaries and choose "Normal".
UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER:
This may wipe your phone, so backup your stuff
• Go to Sony's dev site
• Request the unlock key and check your mail straight away. Email is quick these days.
• Open Flashtool on your computer (yes, the one you installed earlier)
• Click the "BLU" icon
• Follow the steps and enter your unlock key
INSTALLING RECOVERY AND TWRP:
• Just run this tool on your computer.
• Boot into Recovery (POWER + VOL UP)and take a NAND backup ASAP.
It'll "save your life" (or time) when you're soft bricking your Ultra.
FLASHING A CUSTOM ROM:
• Find a ROM
• Move the ROM (and gapps if it is required) to a folder on your Ultra and remember where you put them
• You'll see that you'll need to flash a "boot.img" before you flash anything, so download this
• Now go to this thread and download QuickIMG and follow the short guide
• Flash the boot.img
• Now unplug from the computer and enter Recovery by pressing the Power button.
Once you see the green LED, push and hold VOL UP. If you fail, just press and hold POWER + VOL UP until you
notice some rapid vibrations. Now try again.
• Once you're in Recovery it's the usual stuff. Flash the ROM and gapps and wipe data/cache/dalvik etc.
• Reboot
BACK TO STOCK:
So you have to send your Ultra to a service center and you want to get it back to 100% stock.
Be sure to be on a STOCK kernel before restoring the TA partition or re-locking the bootloader.
• Restore your TA partition using the tool from the "Backup TA Partition" part of this guide.
• If your bootloader hasn't been locked by the TA tool, use Flashtool and press the BLU button and choose "Relock".
• You may not be able to boot now if you're on a custom ROM, so fire up Flashtool again and flash a stock ROM.
BLINKING RED LED:
So, you locked it while on a custom kernel, and all you get now is a blinking red LED above your screen.
Simply unlock the bootloader in Flashtool again, and it'll work again.
You should now be back on stock, un-rooted and with TA and bootloader in place. If you're back on stock,
but the bootloader is still unlocked, get back to 532, root, lock the bootloader, and then flash a FTF in Flashtool again.
BOOTLOOP:
You've ended in a bootloop and you have no idea what to do. A bootloop is when the boot animation is looping, and you're stuck.
We'll start out easy and go harder as we go down the list.
• [SAFE] Boot into Recovery and wipe cache and go to "Advanced" and wipe Dalvik. Reboot and see if it boots now.
• [SAFE] Boot into Recovery and re-flash the ROM and see if that does the job
• [WIPE] Boot into Recovery and wipe data (this will wipe everything) and reboot
• [WIPE] Boot into Recovery and flash a different ROM (wipe data after flash) and reboot
• [LAST RESORT] Fire up Flashtool and flash a stock FTF and get a new hobby
MISSING IMEI:
You downgraded from 290 or later, didn't you? Well, you'll have to update again or flash [NUT]'s .532 build.

Yes it strange as it only happen with my latest back-to-stock. my stock backup is with rooted .257 where as far as I know still don't have proper kernel+recovery like .526 or .532 has.

Would it be possible for you to add a "So you need so send your ZU back to Sony" section covering restoring the TA partition and relocking the bootloader?

Alright, i can add the "going back to stock" part, but i have never relocked the bootloader and restored the TA, so i'm not sure in what order we should do it. Relocking the bootloader is easy. Just use the TA backup tool and restore your backup, and it will lock the bootloader again. But, here's my question. This requires root, so we can't do it when we've flashed the stock firmware using Flashtool since we'll lose root. So i guess if a person is running CM, he'll have to restore TA and also lock the bootloader while on CM, but this will cause a soft brick, but then he can just flash the stock TFT in Flashtool?
Any ideas? I'm asking because i don't want to write something that's not 100% right.

I ever restored TA backup once but that was before I flash Cm at the first time.
When I back-to-stock by restoring nand, bootloader still unlocked.
I wondered if we have nandroid stock (with locked bootloader) , then we unlock, then we flash CM or other custom roms,
can we then just restore the nandroid stok (with locked boot loader) without any problem and we will have our TA partition back and relocked without restore the TA first?

When I sent mine in for repair I had to reroot first... But most people will be rooted.. so:
1)restored the TA partition,
2)locked the bootloader (checked after restoring the TA partition and it was still unlocked)
3)flashed a stock FTF.
Then it was completely stock.
Post this in the OP for locking bootloader
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Download the latest flashtool from:
http://ul.to/3kjpyj70 [v0.9.13.0]
Before you relock the bootloader you have to be on a stock kernel or else the device WILL NOT BOOT.
-We recommend that you will need to return to a Sony STOCK FTF if you are currently on a custom ROM-
Steps:
1) Download Flashtool. Start Flashtool and click on BLU button
2) You will be asked to connect device in flashmode
3) Once you connect the device, you'll be prompted to "Relock"
4) Click on it, and when prompted, disconnect your Ultra
Thanks, I'll add it to the guide in a couple of minutes

I didn't need to do that. I was on stock Sony build 257 and had never flashed AOSP before. All I did was root the phone, update OTA, install recovery and just flash a ROM. Looks like Sony's official unlock is unlike HTC dev unlock and doesn't need a PC (fastboot) to flash ROMs.

Yeah, it seems like it's a hit or miss with the whole boot.img. First time i tried to flash Omni (coming from 257) it wouldn't flash if i didn't flash the boot.img first, but it worked just fine after flashing it, so it seems like people have different experiences and outcomes with the whole ROM flashing, and that's why i just included it so the people that uses this guide gets to the finish line. It's a "fail safe" way of doing it.

True that. It appears (as someone mentioned) there's a problem with Omni's install script. Other ROMs flash fine from stock without the need for fastboot.

Hi,
I liked the idea of flashing D6603 rom on my SGP621 and rooting it..
I like my tablet now even more..
But the WiFi is not working for me now, only LTE/3G..
Also the camera not working, but I don't care because I'm using my mobile phone for taking pictures..
Is there any way to make WiFi working with D6603 rom?
Thanks...

Normaly it takes not more than a few minutes. You can resend it at any time by requesting it again on sonymobile. If it still does not work you may need to get in touch with developer support on their website.

No, you cannot. As there are other drivers used. If you want root and WiFi you need to follow the tutorial to the end and in the process unlock your bootloader and return to the SGP621 stock rom.
Hi lowtraxx
Thanks a lot for your great work!
I have the SGP611 version and have successfully followed rurie's guide to root the unit. Now i'm installing the rooted stock, but I'm stuck at your step 30. In step 28 I booted into fastboot and used Flashtool to execute the Z3TC-stock-twrp.img by pressing the button "Select system to Flash" and selecting the img-file, see pic.
I have tried to reboot by pressing "Reboot into fastboot mode (via Fastboot) to press volume down on purple light. However, the light never goes purple. It is blue, then swishes to red for an instance/glimpse. I have tried to hold down "volume down" and to press it many times but nothing works. Can you explain step 30 to 32 in detail, e.g. by using the buttons on the Flashtool - Fastboot toolbox (see pic)?
Thanks

Hi,
I hope you did not flash the SGP621_23.0.1.A.0.167_CE.ftf onto your device but the one that is for the SGP611, because from your description it sounds like you are in a bootloop. I haven't used Flashtool to flash a kernel before, I am only using the command line. But my best guess would be that you need to click on Select Kernel to flash, select the Z3TC-stock-twrp.img and click on flash. Once that is done, you should reboot the device and wait until the Xperia logo shows up and the LED goes purple. If you now press volume down you get into recovery where you need to flash the RICDefeat.zip file you downloaded. If that does not work, download flashtool binary for windows, open a cmd prompt as Administrator, boot into fastboot mode and execute 'fastboot flash boot /path/to/the/Z3TC-stock-twrp.img' and then continue as outlined above.

Thanks for your reply. I have used the SGP611 firmware, so no problem.
I have flashed Z3TC-stock-twrp.img unto the unit using the button Select Kernal, but when I reboot the LED never goes purple - only blue and for a quick glimpe (~1-3 ms) red. If I boot the unit in normal mode (without fastboot mode or flash mode) it gets stuck at the Sony logo and cannot be shut down without pressing the small force-shut-down button next to the SD card. (It booted as SPG611 just fine before I flashed Z3TC-stock-twrp.img unto it - using the button Select Kernal.)
EDIT. Tried to download Z3TC-stock-twrp.img again and flash it using CMD in windows. Now I can access Recovery.
I'm progressing, but only slowly.
I'm at step 32 in the guide but every time I try to load/install RICDefeat it fails. Nothing happens when I try to issue 'adb sideload /path/to/RICDefeat.zip', so I have put the file on my external SD card. But when I press "install" - "external_sd" - "RICDefeat.zip" in the twrp Recovery it fails and an error comes: "Error executing updater binary in zip '/external_sd/RICDefeat.zip'".
How can I progress? Why do I have to install RICDefeat?
Without RICDefeat you are not able to mount the system partition writeable, so you have no real root. The error is odd though. Have you tried downloading the RICDefeat.zip again, maybe it was corrupted too (like the TWRP img)

Yes, I have tried downloading it again by clicking "View Raw". I have copied both to the SDcard, but both fails with same error.
Trying to use ADB Sideload and writing "adb devices" in Windows CMD from the folder C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\platfo rm-tools just returns an empty list, and installing from SD fails with "Error executing updater binary in zip '/external_sd/RICDefeat.zip'".
Is it possible to go back some steps and try again - without bricking the device? E.g. to step 26? Is there an other place to down the advanced stock kernel?

It worked! I now have an rooted Z3 tablet compact with stock rom and locked bootloader. :good:
I solved it by tring to go back to step 26 and try one more time (with the same files, and same method). This time I did get the same errors about LED in twrp, but everything worked just like it was suppose to and explained in this guide. The RICDefeat flash just took 5 seconds.
Thank you for helping me!
Last questions:
Will I be able to receive Other OTA updates, e.g. for Lollipop when Sony is ready?
Can I always go back to step 35 if I want a clean/new installation, or do I have to unlock the bootloader first, going back to step 24?

Hi,
you will most likely be notified about OTA updates, but you should not take them, because they will not apply properly and most likely remove root again. Just wait for recovery flashable updates or build your own flashable update once the ftfs for the lollipop versions get available. If you want a clean installation without unlocking the bootloader again, just build a flashable zip of a clean ftf and flash that. If you want to send it in for repairs and the like, you can always flash a clean ftf with flashtool, but if you want to root it afterwards you need to unlock the bootloader again.

I'm currently trying to flash RICDefeat from recovery and am getting the exact same error you reported. Do you know what exactly changed that allowed you to flash it successfully? Did you use the RAW version? Where did you put it, internal memory or SD?
Thanks!

I did not change anything. The second time just went a lot faster as I had tried it before. I put RICdefeat on the SD card.
I also have a Z3 Compact (phone). That it a lot simpler to root and RICdefeat is not needed in that guide. Maybe you can get inspiration there?

I actually have been following a guide in the Z3C forums but ended up with partial root. RICD should be able to solve it, but gave me an arror. When I read you've been having similar problems, I thought I'd give it a go. Thanks anyway.

All works fine.
Hey,
today I got my Xperia X3CT and I followed this Guide to Root my Tablet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-t...gp621-t3013534
(I rooted my LG G2 so I thought I should be able to Root my Tablet without any problems )
At Point 6 I started my Tablet, but somehow it is Stuck in a Bootloop. I am sure I did everything the way the Guide told me to, but somehow my Tablet is still in a Bootloop. How do I get out of it? I can turn the Device of by pressing the Power Button und the Volume Up Button.
Can someone please help?
EDIT: Got out of the Bootloop by flashing back to SGP621_23.0.1.A.0.167_CE.ftf. That was quite a shocker
I think the Problem was that I was at 23.1.A.0.690. Now that I am at 23.0.1.A.0.167 it should make any problems? Or could there be another Problem? Would be thankful for help

That was the problem , you must follow the manual from kitkat (23.0.1.A.0.167) . I advise to use http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-...to-rooted-lollipop-locked-bootloader-t3083980 ( No need to open the bootloader ). I made a guide in Spanish

noob help with DRM keys

Hello all I have the Xperia X, it is not my first time that I buy an Xperia and since a i am a guy that in the past has a Nexus devices I like to test ROMs.
To the point before I unlocked the bootloader I see some videos and I read some threads for the DRM keys back up. I do the back up with tool V2 all good the img file is 2mb etc , my problem is that I can't understand the process to restore it, in Nexus devices was more simple they don't have T_A keys.
I read again some threads but I can't understand the exactly command's all the times that I try from some pages the command list the ADB fails!!

the devil is in the details where SONY Xperias are concern.
for SONY, Open Project means THE DEVICE IS NO LONGER SONY AND NOW YOU HAVE TO BUILD YOUR OWN OPERATING SYSTEM.
Once BOOT is UNLOCKED , for sony it means DIVORCE
you can always try third party roms , currently we have only 2 or 3 (Omnirom, PanAndroid and XGen) Xgen is prerooted modifed SONY STOCKROM ( I am using XGEN)
Yes sir, there is alot to be be learned just on the are of how to baby sit Xperia , the method of ROOTING, Flashing Twrp and finding right kernels/modes is WHOLE different world. we will come to it once you have your TA.IMG and you unlock your bootloader

Well I see!!
1st I want to say that I use the same room with you because it have DRM restore key's and I am happy with that!! It is a very good stock ROM with nice features.
2on I try custom ROMs but the biggest problem for me is that finger print reader does not work properly!! So now I have the xgen ROM. But I supposed that for now is better to return in-stock locked bootloader until a good aosp ROM works properly!! That's way I need to understand how I can restore my DRM key's!!

the RELOCKING is same way thats explained in the post for XZ, i never relocked it so i dont know why its not working for you.
also, please understand that SONY has made sure NO TURNING BACK POLICY from 2018. once unlocked you can never go back
so it was with 2016 device only where bootlock can be toggled! .
meaning?
if you have xzp today! you can never relock it! it will stay unlocked forever!
