Hi, I was wondering does anyone know how I can get either the stock Samsung Galaxy S3 email app or the email app from the Omega rom of the S3 onto my rom?
The rom I have installed right now is Liquid Smooth, and although it has an email app already on there, I feel it is lacking compared to the ones I used to have.
Specs are:
Samsung Galaxy S3 International
Running Liquid Smooth JB v2.9
or Android Version 4.2.2
Things I've tried,
So I found a few apk's online but every time I try to install them I keep getting a message that the app can't be installed, I'm unsure whether its the apk specifically or if its because there's already an email app on the rom but I did try a few apks.
I also tried placing the APK files into the /system/app/Email.apk folder of my device, and I can copy it on there if I correct the permissions but it still didn't let me do anything
I also tried a few of the threads here as well, although I came into some dead links unfortunately .
Anyway thanks heaps for any help!!

NOOOOOO, That seriously makes me sad, thanks for the info though, umm so is there any type of email app similar to it I could use? kind of like the one included with liquid smooth, but not umm scummy? Pretty much I liked the other one because it was simple and I could connect onto corporate m$ emails easily without having to find all the server information. I know I had the same type of email app when I ran Mildwild on my HTC Desire. So I'm wondering is there just a stock email.apk I can install without the use of samsung stuff?
Mildwild was aosp so it just used the Google one - an older version of what's in aokp.
Are you sure the default one won't connect? What type of account do you have?

I'm starting to get a feeling that what I remember about mildwild email app was wrong like you are saying . I'm trying to connect up two university emails which use I think the exchange server or some sort of microsoft one? and 2 Gmail accounts and 1 hotmail.
The others works fine, but the university accounts ask for a lot of information which I think I can get online, but usually with the samsung email app, I just type my university email, and password and then magic happens and everything works perfect, and I was hoping the normal email app was similar?
Depends on the accounts. For Microsoft office 365, you just enter e-mail address, password and server (which is m.outlook.com) in any e-mail client and it should auto detect.
If it is an exchange account, it may be more complicated. Really depends what type of e-mail system it is. As an exchange administrator myself, I have never seen exchange auto detect in any e-mail client unless the device is authenticated against the actual domain the exchange server is configured on.

I tried using a server of m.outlook.com and it worked perfectly . I guess the normal samsung email app must use the m.outlook.com automatically while the stock email must be specified. Once I had to do a similar thing, but I had to find some sort of pod server and stuff, which was why I was hoping to find something simple like the samsung email app. But now I know I just need to add the m.outlook.com bit, its perfect!! Thanks heaps!! Much appreciated!!

We're using office 365 now. Microsoft are migrating us to exchange 2013 this weekend. They said all mobile devices should reconnect again fine, except s2 and s3's which may be down all weekend, so perhaps they are different.
That said though, even when I had the stock client installed I still had to specify the m.outlook.com "server"

Hey guys-
I had been using TouchDown Exchange to access my work email. When I first got android I asked my IT department if they could set it up for me but they replied that they "don't support Android, and because there are so many different android phones, they probably wouldn't ever support". Anyways, I found I could use the web-exchange server (http://xxx.xxxxxxxx.com/exchange/) as my domain on the android app and it would end up sync'ing my email to my phone.
I guess they eventually found out I was doing this somehow and they blocked it. They do support the iPhone, though, and through a coworker I was able to get the server and domain that they use.
Is there anyway I can trick the server into thinking I'm using an iPhone so it will allow me to connect and sync? I tried using the "ActiveSync Device String" and setting it to "iPhone" before connecting to the server, but that didn't work. I don't know much about exchange servers if you couldn't tell, but is there a way they can authorize only certain users to connect? Could I potentially borrow my girlfriends iphone, have them set it up on her device, and then once I get the login permissions, switch the info over to my fascinate?
Sorry to any IT administrators out there, I bet this post will annoy you haha. I just want to have email on my phone because I hate walking into work in the morning and getting blindsided by an email that was sent to me at 2am.

Our IT department also has a "no android" policy but I figured out that if I left the Domain blank and used the Webmail url as the Exchange server address everything would sync perfectly. I started out using Touchdown but dropped it for the stock email client.
They specifically denied your phone from syncing via ActiveSync? Even with Touchdown, which more fully supports the ActiveSync protocol than even the iPhone? Sounds like your IT guys are morons. I can fully understand not wanting to support Android phones because of all the variances. I know, because I work for an ASP hosting company that does just that. But really, if they wont support Touchdown, they're just shooting themselves in the foot, because that app will work the sane no matter what Android phone it's installed on, meaning you will have a standardized mail platform for Android that supports any and all necessary security features, including full encryption of the local mail database and any data it stores on the SD card.
I don't know if you'll get anywhere with it, but I would recommend showing the the feature list for Touchdown, including the security features, and ask them to support that one app. If you make the case that they only need to support one app for any Android phone, they should be willing to work with you on that.
Besides, every serious corporate user should be using Touchdown anyway. The stock mail client, no matter what Android phone you have, is lacking some of the most basic features, is buggy,and is essentially useless. And if days encryption is required, you're out of luck with the stock clients. Exchange syncing is really an afterthought by Google, and until they make enterprise features and data security a primary focus, things wont get any better.

Oh, and btw, I'm not an expert on the matter, but I know that mobile device syncing can be disabled on a per-user basis. What I'm not sure about is if it can actually allow only certain devices to connect or not.

I just got the Photon this week, it is my first Android device (coming from a TP2 w/Energy rom).
At work I use exchange server with lots of folders. Incoming emails are automatically (by rule) moved into their respective folders. With my old phone, I can tell that I have a new email in one of the many folders because that folder will be bold.
With my new Photon, I setup "corporate mail" and I only get notification of new emails in the INBOX only. If I want to check for new emails in one of the folders, I have to click on each folder and check to see what is inside, this is ridiculous b/c I have about 20 folders! The folders do not alert me of new emails within them like my crappy wm 6.5 device used to.
FYI in the folder sync options, I set the folders to "Background, Default" already.
I'm hoping someone can tell me I did something wrong! I particularly chose this phone since its advertised as a "business" phone. Hopefully there is a setting for this email issue... Thanks!!

Hi, I'm a Sprint Launch Ambassador supporting the Photon. Are the folders that your emails are being moved to on the server or are they offline? If Outlook is automatically moving them to offline subfolders then the mail client on Photon has no way of knowing you have new mail. If the subfolders that Outlook is moving new mail to are online then let me know and I can do some testing on my own device to see if I can duplicate.
If you're a heavy Exchange user, I HIGHLY recommend investing in Touchdown. It's expensive @ $20, but worth every penny. It is the best Exchange e-mail client out there and is extremely powerful. It also allows me to segregate my work e-mail from my personal e-mail (Gmail). Look into it, I believe there's a demo/trial that you can run with for 15 days.

mattvalenz, I can confirm that every Android unit i've used has never alerted me for this.
My Sprint HR folder is set up this way. It never hits the inbox, hence no alert. This is an Android thing, but I'm not sure if there is a way to set up syncing properties of that particular folder to alert when the rule is used and it dumps an email there.
It's something I've never really looked into.
Other than that, since all 150+ emails a day from everyone else for me are so different, they all flush to my main inbox so I get an alert.

I've never known any Android device to mix Google and Exchange accounts. Even the Photon natively segregates Gmail from the Universal Inbox.
Do you by any chance have your Gmail account set up as POP? That is the only way it would even be conceivable that Gmail would end up in the Universal Inbox. At any rate, HTC Sense keeps all inboxes segregated... I wish the Moto UI allowed for this.
In response to the OP, I can give you this insight: I'm an Exchange administrator, and inbox rules such as you have set up are not supported by Android (or the iPhone for that matter), but Windows Mobile does have the necessary extensions to support Inbox rules. They're both Microsoft products, and proprietary at that

They are on the server. If it helps any, my exchange server is hosted online (www.sherweb.com).
As a temporary fix, I changed the rule so that it "placed a copy" of the email into the respective folders. This keeps an email in the inbox, but it defeats the purpose of keeping my inbox clean...

You can if you use k9-Mail, but not by default, on which you are correct. My bad for not being clearer.
I'm glad to see that i'm not the only one with this problem.
My email server is comcast. We use cached exchange mode. No idea what the means. But I can use outlook on any network. The rules exist server side. I am able to see the new email in folders but I get no notifications.
Neither Touchdown or K9Mail are a viable solution. Touchdown is too expensive when I only get 5-10 (albeit important) emails a week, and I don't recall it really doing a good job of notifications. I tried K9 but it also does not properly notify, and it is EXTREMELY convoluted and difficult to use, and I'm a power user.
Why can't someone just write an app that watches those folders and notifies the user of email, or better yet why can't google just make their exchange app work right?
My evo used to notify me on subfolders. Not photon though.

I ended up purchasing touchdown. The price didn't bother me as I'm a heavy exchange user for my own business. The principal of the matter bothered me though-- Photon was advertised as a business phone yet it has such a simple yet important feature missing. I really regret purchasing the photon, wish I got an HTC phone instead.
Counting down the days my 2 years is up!

New to this forum group, having just taken delivery of SGS2, with three.co.uk.
Prior to this I had an HTC HD2 with O2 UK, and made much use of the HD2 forum groups in modding that phone.
This forum group has been so active, I see a steep learning curve ahead. This is all to the good - it means folks are enthusiastic about this phone.
A major reason for me choosing the SGS2 was that Samsung Exchange client supports SMS sync with Exchange 2010 accounts.
This is vital for work, as I can send up to 1000 sms a month to clients and staff.
With SMS sync, I can keep a message history for past and current issues and projects.
My question is: should I stick to the standard Samsung ROM (it isn't "3" branded, as I got it through a reseller, and came unlocked) to keep SMS sync?
Or, can I give in to my inner geek and get modding?
There seem to be 2 main branches for mods - Samsung ROM based and "other" ROM based.
If I were to install a modded ROM would I preserve the functionality?
Or, could I reinstall the Samsung Exchange client if it wasn't present in a modded ROM?
Please excuse me if the answer is out there. I have done extensive reading and searching, but haven't found an answer yet.
If the answer to my question is "search some more, son, this has been answered already", please let me know politely.
I would suggest learning first which things do you need to be able to run SMS sync. If the only thing you need its Samsung Exchange Client, you can use any ROM you like and you can install Samsung Exchange Client app in there so you would be able to run SMS sync without problems.
If SMS sync requires certain kernel or more deeper system stuff, it would be harder to move to another ROM.

I suspect it is just the Samsung Exchange client I need - it is the only one, other than WM6.1/6.5 that has the SMS sync feature enabled. Standard Android and other variants (HTC, etc.), Apple and Windows Phone 7/7.5 don't enable the necessary features.
I've tried Nitrodesk Touchdown (on a HTC Wildfire I set up for my Mom as a second phone) and it's implementation is spotty.
I guess you're right - I will have to bite the bullet and try out various options. It will be the only way to know for sure what is necessary. From your comment, I take it the Samsung email (Exchange) client is available as a separate download?
Also, I see you are using HyperDroid-Androidmeda - I was thinking of giving that a go as my first ROM rooting adventure. Is it a variant of the Samsung ROM?

I have this tablet, however Iam not able to set up the email client to use my work email. I keep getting a message saying that my server requires settings that are not supported by this Android device.
can anybody tell me what is going on? I even went into the settings and encrypted the tablet because my work email requires to have the device encrypted but it did not work. However I also have the Galaxy phone but that works ok with my email. so my issues is only on the tablets.
Am I m missing something?

If your exchange admin has enabled security features that Android does not have then you're out of luck unless you can get them to change them. Otherwise your web based exchange should work ok.

Use your OWA address as the mail server.
Can you get mail on your phone? Then you should be able to get mail on your tab. If not, then your IS folks probably have owa sync disabled. We do for all phones except droid, apple, and bb.
I had the same problem with HC 3.1 and 3.2. You can try one of the ICS preview roms like Mabalitos ICS rom in this forum.
I finaly got it working with that after six months of struggeling.

My corporate exchange servers have some requirements that the stock email application won't support so I ended up using Moxier mail. Suggest checking it out, im not sure if they have a demoversion though. Retail version is pricey but worth it for me, ymmv.

The major shortfall of Android ICS is the inability to handle standard Internet Calendar Sharing (ICS) meeting requests (calendar invitations) sent via email.
Every other platform in the world seems able to handle a meeting invitation sent from a calendar application, whether that is from Microsoft Outlook (worldwide standard in the business world), an iCal file from an Apple device. The web-based version of gmail correctly handles calendar invites and prompts one to respond with a "Yes/No/Maybe" reply.
The native Android gmail app shows either just a blank email or sometimes the text details of a meeting invite. There is no ability to respond to the meeting request. Instead, Android places the item on the Calendar and expects the user to respond to it there. The problem with this approach is the one needs to know where to look on the calendar.
A Google search shows that this has been a known issue for years, yet Google does nothing about it.
Short of ditching the native gmail app for a functional third-party app, how can one enable gmail to handle meeting requests the way every other email application does?

What I want to know is how a black and white screen BlackBerry from the stone ages can read and reply to meeting requests yet my dual-core, multitasking juggernaut of a phone can't preform this simple function. How on earth can Android/Google turn off business users like this??? I am aware that some 3rd party apps on Android do provide this function but they all require you to connect to an exchange server! W T F Google??????

dunno what's wrong with my ics but its working fine here, im getting invitation popups and i can respond yes/no/maybe. it seems though that the mail itself is rawtext if you open it, but the invitation will be triggered when the time is proper.

Not sure what caused your issues. I've had invites and responded from the following without problems:
1. Lotus Domino
2. MS Exchange
My systems:
1. Plain Gmail and Gmail calendar (for personal stuffs).
2. Google Apps Gmail and Google Apps Calendar (for business stuffs).

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Are you saying that in the Android phone's gmail app you get meeting request emails and have the YES/NO/MAYBE buttons available? If YES are you using and ms exchange server? If NO, did the person send the request from a gmail email address?
Invitation Plugin
Check if Invitation Plugin application can solve your issue. It opens ics invites in default calendar where you can accept/decline event.
You can get this app on Google Play:

For it to work you need to enable 'Automatically add invitations to my calendar' setting in Google Calendar
