My daughter has a Nook that one day the volume stopped working. We tried to reboot it and it would only boot to the white Nook by B&N screen. This is a nook table. I got the recovery 1.4.2, formatted the SD card, then burned the image to the SD card. Went through all steps and then comes back the white screen again and wont go past there. Any help please.

Bought 2 16GB Nook tablets last week (one for wife) - used indirects method to boot CWM from SD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466583 however got same error as Land Master and a few others where instead of booting CWM the unit booted a factory reset prompt instead. The suggested workaround is to boot while plugged into a computer however this did not work for me. In the end I did get CWM to boot and installed CM7 which is going great on both tablets (I'm in the UK so could not register or use the stock OS).
The workaround for me was, from a failed CWM boot that has gone through a factory reset screen (which is declined) to boot the stock OS,
1 eject SD properly, plug into Mains and reboot then turn off normally (i.e the nook has now been turned off from stock OS without booting from the CWM SD first)
2 re make the SD ( it seems booting into the stock OS with it inserted changed it in some way, no idea how)
3 turn on nook holding n and power button until nook turns - this is standard step
4 insert SD and turn on while still plugged into Mains (nook should have been plugged into Mains from step one)
This worked on both nooks, 1.4.1 out of box with oobe skipped, I swapped the SD after CWM booted for one with CM7, updated from this, wiped data rebooted and have not looked back since.
Hi Guys,
I really hope someone can help me out with this issue. I searched the forum and the internet but did not find any solutions.
My friend successfully rooted the Nook Tablet yesterday using a method that did not require an SD card. Today I was trying to install CM9 with ICS so I downloaded Nook Recovery Flasher.apk and flashed cwm. When I restarted my device got stuck into autorestarting loop. It shows the gray "n", which quickly followed by the clockwork recovery loading splash screen (the picture of the cardboard box). The device then shuts down and starts the cycle over.
I've tried holding the power and n button method but that doesn't work. I've also tried creating a bootable sd card but the device won't pick that up either.
I would appreciate any suggestions!
I've ended up bricking my 8GB NT a similar way. Ended up writing over my mmcblk partition with something I wasn't supposed to. Now stuck in a reboot loop, can't do adb, my phone isn't playing nice enough to where I can make a recovery SD.
BTW OP, from what I've read CM9 is only for 16GBs and will brick 8GBs.
Same thing happened to me a while back. I was able to create a bootable CWM sd card. From there you should be able to restore. If not, use the Ubuntu recovery.
Short answer: You're going to have to create a bootable SD card.
Firstly, it should be noted that I'm a noob.
I just bought this Nook Tablet 8GB today. I tried following Adam's post on downgrading a 16GB NT to 2.1.0. Attempting this on my 8GB seemed to be working as it was seemably installing the "update" with a yellow loading bar. It never booted, and its been a black screen since.
I have an SD card, with Adam's UbuntuTotalReflash image burned on it, to boot from, but I cannot tell if the device is on or off. Is there a way to boot it using a software through USB? Someone please help. Thanks.
I am having the same problem, installed the acclaim 1.4.0 downgrade on a 8 GB 250A nook tablet and now it doesnt power on. The computer recognizes it as an OMAP when its plugged in but it does not boot. please help
do not use Adams total wipe wait a bit that meghd00t is cooking something for the bricked 8gb nook tablets, and i be helping with support.
For now try to boot something else from sdcard like cm7 or the new recovery made by meghd00t that is proven to work fine for the 8gb NT.
If you press power button for 20 minutes or so it may power off. You can tell because of the color screen under the light if is black black with no signs of light in a corner then is off but if you see some blue with some light to the top right corner then is not completely off and if that happens it will for sure overheat your tablet.
Hmmm maybe you can use the method to put it in a fridge for 2-3 hours, check it up.
The goal here is to make it boot up even if it's from sdcard only for now.

Try USB BOOT?
No matter what I've done to mine in the past, it would always boot by inserting the USB cable (preferably plugged into charger not PC) with a Bootable SD card installed.
My 2 cents
Hi all,
please need your help with my nook tablet, got bricked after trying to intall CWM, after that tried the ubuntu fix, I guess it didn't work until the end, so now got the "n" logo at the boot, and the message of battery low appears everytime, but it stayed in the plug whole day. don't know what happned, can't boot from SD.

It should be able to boot from the SD card because the nook automatically boots from there first. Try installing the latest version of of CWM onto the SD card and do a factory reset from there.
Here's the link for CWM Recovery. h ttp://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery/CWM_6.0.2.7_Nook_Tablet.7z
So I have one of those super special 16GB Nook Tablets that refuses to boot to an SD card no matter what you do (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515761). Since I couldn't use the method of flashing recovery I used on my other two NTs (booting to SD recovery and flashing) I tried using Indirect's recovery flasher (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458630) flashed it, and hit the reboot to recovery button. Now after the initial normal Nook logo on boot a larger one appears and then the screen goes black, I've let it sit for a good 30 minutes and nothing comes up after that (in fact the tablet seems to turn off after a while). I have no access to ADB or fastboot at that point either. Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this or am I screwed?
Erf, and I made this in the wrong forum... could a mod please move me to the Q&A\Help section?

Apparently this tablet is just super super picky about booting to SD cards... Was able to boot and restore to 1.4.2 using repart.img (mind you it took 5 attempts on 5 different SD cards to do so).
