Heya guys n gals, hopefully someone can give me a hand or some information on what is going on and maybe some fixes.
I have had my gt-i9100 international using the jeboo kernal and one of greeces 4.1.2 stock. Phone was rooted.
Go back a month now, the phone started to turn itself off while visually it showed i had approx 70% battery life left. it only do it if i was using my wifi directy connected to my wireless router. watching a bit of nasatv or on facebook, for like 10 minutes max. it then stopped turnign itself off for a week or so, then it became a constant every day problem, to which 4 days ago I thought stuff it, id reinstall total stock rom and kernel. during this time i purchased a new stock battery which turned up yesterday, i have reinstalled to stock rom and kernal and this morning (with old battery) the damm thing turns it self off, after turning the phone on the battery indicator says 74%.
Put new battery in and leave phone off and plug in charging cable, the charge icon show emplty battery with a circle arrow thats not moving, then flicks over to a 80%ish nearly full charge green fill in of the battery image then flicks off, does not stay with that image on the screen for very long at all, blink and youl miss it.
any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Given replacing battery didn't work, you go with the next logical possibility - replace USB board/port. This has been covered a lot here this year, so you have plenty of info to guide you. It's cheap/easy to do yourself, but you must order the right part (there are 4 different 'revisions'). Search for threads about this issue to get the info you need.
I dont understand how then that the original battery still works, If the port aint charging one battery then why is it selective to charge the original?

how do i find out what revision the charging flex port is?
That's the problem with the usb flex port. You never know when it will choose to work. For the same reason don't use your pc to flash anything till you fix it.
To find the rev version you have to take your phone apart. Click the link in my signature and from there you can access a guide to DIY if you wish.

Firstly install mp3 checker on your computer and copy all your mp3 to your computer and scan it with mp3 checker and if any broken mp3 are found delete them.
For nomedia---you need to search it on your computer with phone connected and delete them
Once this is done I think you should be sorted with battery drain and many more battery issues

Hey there,
My phone drained while plugged in and I noticed after I unplugged it the charge began to climb. Ideas? Anyone else?

Dont want to be the pessimist but my brothers phone did this. He sent it off to samsung and they sent him a bill for £150. Apparently it was water damage. There are other threads on here though have been diagnosed as faulty USB connection on the main board.
Ricey
Well it hasn't touched water.. seems the charge count has stopped going up.

Neither had my brothers, apparently its sensitive that the slightest condensation can cause the indicators to turn. Thats what they told my brother.
Ricey
Just an Android bug.
When charging, the phone thinks it's draining, so it says; it's losing power.
When decharging, it thinks it's charging... Phone Samsung, send some photos (with the phone) and make sure the water-sticker has all it's crosses VISIBLE!
If you don't want to risk a bill yet, then try flashing a different ROM... (First, backup, incase it doesn't work, flash stock ROM via Odin, if that doesn't work, try a different custom ROM, if that doesn't work, you phone's f**ked...)
I will try this tonight when I am home. Thank you for the input. I will post results

Phone will not charge now..
OK... didn't have a chance to flash a different ROM. if anyone has any suggestions on which rom to go with I would appreciate it.
Today it seems that the battery will not charge. It sees that it is plugged in but it does not take charge. The saga continues! I am thinking about getting another battery just to test this out.
You must rule out bad roms by flashing a stock rom .

Mine did that like a week after buying the phone. They switched the usb plug in warranty repair.
Has been working fine for ~6months now

ah... so i am going to be paying lol. thank you very much for the input!
Common bug.
What seems to happen with mine is that the battery miscalculated the amount it's drained by when you use it for a while - For example, using google maps as a car GPS. After you get to the destination, and turn off the GPS and Data, the battery APPEARS to regain charge - it's not really, it's just recalculating the amount it was drained by.
A battery refresh will sort it, it's also very common if you reboot/crash at under 50% power. It reboots at around 10% and ticks back up to the 'correct' value after an hour or so.
It gets worse after a few weeks of use, and a battery refresh (full charge, shut down, remove battery for 2 minutes, replace battery, fully charge, switch on), sets everything back to default again and it behaves itself for a while.
Not had it happen for a couple months now, but I've not been dinking around with flashing stuff of late so it's not been crashing horribly (which was the main CAUSE of this bug), in the first place.
Here is some news... tried a different USB cable and guess what? No more charge issues or over voltages.

Don't buy a new battery!
Before paying for anything;
while the phone is running, pull the battery...
2. (Leave the battery out) Plug your phone in, if it recognizes the charger, leave it to clear the RAM properly, plug the battery back in, boot into CWM and wipe battery stats! Once done, take from charger, unplug battery, plug it back in, then leave the phone powered down, and plug charger in. Leave it for an hour or two, then boot into Android. Now it should work fine
It's a problem with your usb charging port. It will progresssively get worse and ICS will keep telling you that its paused charging due to overvoltage. The only way to truly fix it is to have the charging port plus circuit board replaced. Happened to me a week back and I tried virtually everything- stock roms, removed root, replaced batteries etc. None of that worked. Some posts said it was a port problem. Went to a tech guy I knew and he confirmed the issue when he disconnected the port. It was relatively cheap for me to fix but some people have climed that samsung charges a large amount to fix it. You're better off trying to get it fixed on your own. If you're on warranty, try and claim it
so my amaze 4g has been having battery problems for a few days (this is the 2nd battery for it, first died after 13 months), and tonight i went to check a text message and i had about 45% battery left,i swipe to unlock the phone and then 1 sec later it just goes black.
i have tried everything, but the LED wont even turn on when plugged into charger/pc. in device manger i see "qhsusb_dload" , but everything Ive goggled about this issue seems to be related to modified phones, not bone stock.
any help?

Unlucky! Your phone is dead, the only hope for you here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627882
This happens when your battery is really dead. You might have to leave the charger plugged in for a few hours before the LED comes back on.
However, this is a temporary fix, and it is likely that it will happen again.
I'd recommend you to get a new battery, even if plugging it for a few hours solves your problem. HTC Amazes are notorious for killing batteries. If you look around, you'll see threads talking about horrible battery life, similar random shutdowns, and such that can only be fixed with a new battery.

i tested my battery voltage and it was 3.850, how can it be really dead when its rated at 3.8v? i have had the battery issue before, but it never bricked my phone.
It's not bricked. (It shouldn't be)
Remove the battery, press the power button several times to dissipate any remaining charge in the phone, and then insert a fully charged battery. I'd recommend you using a different phone (if available) to charge the said battery.
After that, it should boot up normally.
And if I recall, voltage is supposed to be consistent, regardless of the charge level (unless it's totally dead, then maybe it's different, I don't know)
It's the current you want to look for.

Yeah that's not normal. You could try charging it, but it's likely that the battery is fried already. You can buy a new battery on Amazon or some similar site. Many people (including me) recommend Anker batteries.

Hello everybody!,
My name is Ferdi and usually if i need help i can find it somewhere on this forum but for this problem I searched the whole internet but couldn't find a thing about it
The problem:
Last week I turned off my S3. it went out for 1 second, suddenly after that the screen turns on again telling me: Downloading, do not turn of target.
So i didn't turn it off because i thought it was actually downloading. it wasn't downloading but it did manage to get my battery empty real quick.
When my battery was empty i tried to charge it at home but it didn't respond to anything (different chargers, connecting it to PC etc.)
I got a new battery thinking my Li-Ion battery had its best time, this new battery did wel and i was able to charge it when it was on.
after i put it off once more it showed the same "Downloading" message again and i pulled out the battery so it wouldn't get empty again.
Tried to reboot a minute later, S3 booted like it was supposed too.
Summary:
The thing is that I can only charge it when it's on.
Does anybody know what I can do to fix it because i turned it off again leaving the battery in it and the battery is now empty and the telephone does not respond to anything anymore.
Thank you very much in advance!
Kind regards,
Ferdi

Thanks for your quick respond,
do you think it is a pure software problem?
the main issue for me is that i can't boot it into download mode even now because it won't charge when it's off and the battery is down.
Charge your battery in an external charger or someone else's S3.
Download a full stock rom from sammobile and flash using odin, follow instructions from 'how to return to stock guide'.
Once stock then test charging function, if still the same then hardware fault - you'll need a service centre.

Maybe the only thing to try at the moment would be the old battery drain technique... Usual means is to tape down the power button and wait days and days until it is dead, really dead ( shows nothing when connected to computer), then connect to wall charger and reboot and see what you get. This is really the ultimate "hard reset" but same result can be obtained far more quickly by removing the back and disconnecting the battery for a while to remove residual charge... Not as frightening or difficult as it might seem, have done it loads of times for various faults and to replace batteries in several tabs.

thank you sir. Im doing it now. But Im a doing it correctly? i just connected it to the computer for apx mode then after that i tape the power button so that it continuously on and off for apx mode then i disconnected it to the computer or I should leave it stay? i think it will charge if i connected it to the computer.
If you're trying to discharge by taping down power button just leave the tab on it's own not plugged into anything... Plugging into something that charges rather defeats the object of the exercise

In some cases it takes more than a day, be patient... Unless you are prepared to remove the back and unplug battery... The aim of the game is to completely power down the tab and remove residual charge in components, the "hardest" reset available.... So, two ways to achieve that is drain battery or disconnect battery... If you drain battery you must be sure it's empty to achieve desired effect then you obviously cannot restart it without charging a bit as the battery is empty, so you connect charger then try to boot, but the tricky bit is being sure the battery is completely drained otherwise you are just wasting your time... That is why battery disconnect is preferable

I had to purchase an iFixIt repair kit to get the correct driver to remove the two screws. I disconnected the battery, waited ten minutes and when I reconnected I was SO HAPPY to see the battery charging icon. I charged for a while a fired up the tablet. Everything was the same as if nothing happened. I am so happy because Samsung said they could fix the problem and it would be a flat rate of $150 which I don't have and I would lose everything.

It took me longer to remove the screws then anything. I stripped them and will need to replace them. I tried a regular screwdriver before the tri-wing screw driver and paid dearly in time. Once the two screws were removed, use a plastic pry tool starting on the bottom where the screws are because once the bottom and sides are pried lose, the top will slide over the extended audio jack.
1.5 hours to remove stripped screws
10 minutes to pry open
1 minute to disconnect battery (did not remove battery or three data cables on top of battery)
10 minutes wait for discharge
3 minutes to re-connect battery cable (it slides forward and snap down)
2 minutes to replace case

Forgive the gravedigging, but I am unable to find anything regarding my situation, and the original poster has a problem that is similar to mine (my thread is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52931715 ). I hope someone is able to give me a hand here!
I am wondering, it has been over 15 minutes since I disconnected the battery completely, but connecting the P7500 to my laptop still shows an APX device being connected. Could there be some hardware issue preventing the device from being fully discharged?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I've got the same issue as Lightside and the original poster. Mine is a GT-P7500, which had CM10 nightly ROM with CWM recovery. I sold it on eBay, but before selling, I wiped the tablet and got it back to the Clockworkmod main screen. I turned it off completely and shipped it to the buyer, ready for it to be registered by the new user.
The buyer received the tablet and from the e-mails I received from him in the first couple of days, all was going well. Then, a couple of days later, he sent me an e-mail saying that the screen shows the android lying on its back with "Odin download" mode showing. A day later, he sends me a messaging saying that he can't turn the tablet on at all. The guy who bought it is an old man and didn't know much about fixing the issue. I asked him whether he powered the tablet off while still plugged in to the wall charger and he confirmed that he did. I asked him to return it to me and I can try and fix it, so now, I have the tablet back and it won't turn on. Here's what is happening:
1. I drained the battery using the cellotape method
2. Installed the NVflash drivers
3. Waited for the battery to drain (almost 9 days and the LED flash stopped blinking, so assumed it was completely drained)
4. Plugged it in to the PC and it immediately showed up again as a device under the USB controllers within Device Manager
5. I then unplugged the battery by opening the back of the tab, left it for 15 mins, then tried the wall charger again, but nothing. No charging icon on the screen.
When I try to press the power button, I can see the LED light up, but the screen is still blank.
Could this be a hardware issue and if so, what do you think could have caused it?
Could really do with some help here, folks! I don't want to have to give the buyer a refund because technically, he got it when it was in working condition and he probably did something to screw it up, but since he's an old man, I thought I'd try and help him, if I can.
same to me

Could this be a hardware issue and if so, what do you think could have caused it?

i have a GT-7500 ,i used the original firmeware,it's the same issue,drain battery method not working,somebody help?
It is brought out that I have been offlately facing aforementioned stange battery charge drop down on all the reboots.
To double check the same I used one of my friends battery who never experienced such thing and the same issue happened with his battery in my phone. (His phone is galaxy r)
In view of the above situation, I would like to ask all members to advise/help me to find solutions on the following points
1. Is this problem related with hardware
2. A software bug.
3. Could be kernel related.
I also understand that lot of people are experiencing this issue. if togerher we can share our experience in this thread I am hopeful that we would be able to find the solution.

More details needed mate. Which ROM are you on? Which kernel? Rooted or not? How much battery standby do you get? Any BBS log?

I am on s2 like s4 rom with dorimanx 8.32.
Rooted. No issues with battery standby. Getting good battery life. The problem only starts when I switch it off or reboot

Unusual or abnormal battery drops after a reboot indicate 2 things:
1. Some problem with battery calibration (could be due to recently flashed new ROM/kernel or due to wiping battery stats). For this, simply allow your phone a few days to recreate the battery stats.
2. Old or failing battery. In this case, a replacement battery would be needed.

Rom was flashed 2 weeks back. If this would have been the case it should have settled by now.
Anyways I will do a battery calibration to see if it improves.

This can be considered as the battery is now 1 year old but when I used my friends battery the same drop down happened which is not the case with his phone which is galaxy r.

There is something else which we are not able to diagnose.
Whats your say

It could also be due to faulty USB port/board or the connector pins.

I think connector pins do not play any part here.

There is a media scan that happens everytime you reboot, So in that case if your having large number of corrupted files, There will be huge battery drain.
Check your external card for .nomedia files and delete them.
Check your internal memory for .nomedia files and delete them.
Use MP3 CHECKER and Check for broken MP3 files.
Fix it and you are good to go :good:

Scanned and found lot of nomedia files... deleted them
also, scanned the mp3 files and found lot of them were broken therefore deleted the broken once.
After started the phone twice and this time only lost 1% on each reboot... seems it is sorted but will keep an eye for two three days and report back.
Prashanth thanks for the advise it seems to working.
Am glad that i helped you mate
Is there any way to scan the nomedia files on the phone and delete them.

I looked up for nomedia files and found out I don't have them, so, the problem on my phone is not it. But I still have these battery drop down when I reboot below 50%, and when it turns on, it's between 10 and 25%. Any ideas of what is wrong? I have 3 batteries and all of them behave this way, obviously is the hardware/firmware.

Same is the case with me. I think some hardware problem. If your phone is in warranty pls take it to service centre and see what they say about this. Otherwise we would keep assuming and never come to conclusion

This is the usual behavior of the fuel gauge chip. To avoid this you have two options: only reboot the phone if you have 80%+ of battery or plug in the charger before you reboot and unplug it after the reboot is completed.

This never use to happen when battery was new. So this only happens when battery gets old and looses charge.
I went to samsung service centre today and was given to understand that my battery is loosing current when on low power as this is not the genuine battery.
So now I will get hold of my friends new galaxy s2 and try his battery and see if this is the case and report back

When I bought my phone, it didn't happened. I just start to happen when I flashed my 1st custom rom, 6 months after, so, maybe somthing changed with it that cause this...
Until 2 months ago, I believe the timing is right, the original rom as Neat Rom worked flawlessly in matter of this subject, but now not anymore... So I don't know what to think about, if it's some modern incompatibility or something with the battery/phone.
