[Q] LTE on Ting - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hey guys! Just activated my evo on Ting about a week ago and LTE doesn't seem to work on any AOSP roms.
It connects fine on Sense and speeds are great. On Pac (my primary) it just doesn't connect; under status in settings it does say LTE for the network, but it says disconnected.
Calls/texts work fine though, and if I switch to CDMA/EvDo, 3G works fine as well. I've tried updating profile/PRL in sense then going back to AOSP multiple times, but to no avail.
Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks!

I have an idea...stop using AOSP.
But seriously, you could try installing the firmware again. See how that might help.

Haha, I've always been vanilla man. Sense is nice, but it's not my cup of tea. I'll try updating the firmware again and get back to you.
EDIT: Same thing! Frustrating...

Have you tried earlier versions of firmware? You know you can flash backwards right?

EDIT: Downgraded to four older versions to no avail. LTE doesn't connect, 3G does fine. Frustrating.

Keep in mind some versions of firmware from capts thread require an additional touch panel zip for aosp roms to work. Make sure you read thoroughly.

Saw that. But the post says not to flash the touch panel zip on AOSP roms cause it'll cause the screen to be unresponsive...
"If you plan on using an older base ROM, an AOSP ROM, or older version of recovery, then you should NOT install the below standalone file (as it will cause your touch screen to be unresponsive)."

Ting APN
Not sure if you still need this, but you have to update the APN info for LTE to work.
In AOSP rom, go to voice dialer and say "Open APNs". Next, open the LTE internet APN. Update the APN value to n.t8.ispsn. Press menu > commit modifications. Do the same thing for EHRPD internet APN. This should activate LTE for you.

Dammit guys, it's happening again. After the intermittent data drops on CM11, LTE just stopped working. The icon shows, but nothing connects. 3G works fine. Tried reflashing different roms, and LTE only works on Sense. Tried flashing various different Ting APNs which usually works, but nothing. Manually edited APNs, nothing. Updated PRL and Profile, nothing. I don't use much mobile data but this is really frustrating.

Hey Andrew - did you get this working? I can't stand sense and have had my evo for a month on Ting. I've tried some of the flashable zips with cm11 and Omnirom, but can't seem to get LTE and 3G to work at the same time. I'm curious if it's worked for anyone.
Thanks!

No, unfortunately. I ended up switching to the Nexus 5 on TM shortly after. I'd highly recommend it, especially if you use a lot or end up on L or XL on Ting.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck!

Any news on getting LTE on your Ting EVO? As with the OP, I've had limited success flashing the various APNs out there. If you've found a solution that works, I'm interested in the details.

I had working LTE for a while on AICP, but then it stopped working after installing another rom and I couldn't get it back. However fizbanrapper's post in the liquidsmooth thread got LTE working again for me on Ting, seems to have the correct APN settings and it works flawlessly. I'm on Liquidsmooth but I assume it will work on other AOSP roms as well.

Awesome. Glad it worked for you. Did you just have to do step A, or did you have to use the rewritten apns-conf?
If the apns file was a necessary step, I'll put in a little more effort and make it a standalone flashable zip file.

To get LTE working on Ting AOSP 4.4+ HTC EVO 4G LTE
If the above does not fit your situation 100%, read no further or your device will get more bugs than Miley Cyrus's....
Even if the above fits you 100%, try this at your own risk. I'm by no means an advanced user and certainly wouldn't call myself a developer.
A. The APN menu
Download & install the Google Gesture Search app from the Play Store. Open it, say yes to the defaults and wait the 20 seconds it takes to index your system. Once all of that is done, use your finger to draw "A", "P", "N" on the screen. This will bring up a list of search results. Choose APNs settings. If there is a list of APN's already there, one of them says something about LTE internet. You can modify the existing values to match those shown below. Otherwise, in the APNs screen, hit the plus to add a new APN. Give it the following values:
Name: LTE
APN: n.t8.ispsn
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://mms.plspictures.com
MMS proxy: 68.28.31.7
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 120
Authentication type: Not set
APN type: default, mms
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO type: None
Save the APN. Touch the radio button to the right of the APN to select it. Hit the home button. Cycle airplane mode. You should be able to connect now. I think this alone will get your LTE working, but...
B. If you're not connecting yet:
You might want to play around with some of these settings. The APN protocols can probably just as easily be IPv4v6 instead, but it defaulted to v4, so that's where I left it and I'm not messing with it now. Also when I first connected, I had the MMSC set to http://mms.sprintpcs.com and changed it to plspictures later. I doubt that was important, but like I said already, I'm in over my head here. It's entirely possible that when LTE goes to connect for the first time, that it gets pissed if it doesn't see sprintpcs in that URL. I don't know...
If there were APNs already listed when you performed step A, but LTE doesn't work yet, modify all instances of n.ispsn to ad the t8 in n.t8.ispsn. Also if you show pamsn, modify it to show t8.pamsn. These are all correct values for Ting.
There shouldn't be a need to do this, but you could also try setting your MCC to "310" and your MNC to "00". I haven't personally tried that MCC or MNC, but I've seen those values for Ting elsewhere. If you're still having trouble change the MCC and MNC back , then proceed to step C.
C. If you're still not connected:
Attached is the Ting APN zip file you can flash to help restore Ting LTE. Note that if you perform this step, you will most likely have to go back and redo step A before LTE will work, though you might not if you're adventurous and want to take a risk and flash the zip after first boot. Either way, make a nandroid backup before flashing this.
It should be flashed after the ROM & kernel, but prior to first boot (though it could still work even when flashed after first boot). This overwrites the existing apn-conf.xml file.
D. Last resort:
Ok, if you haven't made a nandroid yet, you really really need to do so now. This works with some ROMs, but causes others to bootloop (even if you follow all of the instructions exactly) and essentially does the same thing as step A but is a bit more forceful about it.
This should only be flashed after first boot. Additionally you want to go through steps C and A before this step will work. This flash overwrites the data file you populated from step A.
Going through step A is still necessary because some additional files get changed when you access the APN settings menu and when you save a new APN. Most ROMs use those additional files to call BS and either bootloop or throw enough system errors to force you to restore the nandroid that you wisely made as was suggested several times before.
Those additional files work differently from ROM to ROM, so I can't make a zip file that works nicely with all ROMs. Or at least I haven't figured it out yet, anyway.

Took a few tries, but the "Last Resort" fix worked for me. Thanks!

I had success with the zip from Step C on CM11 (ocarinaz's build from 6/4 with the 5/8 boot.img).
I've been satisfied with the ROM so I haven't experimented further yet. Will definitely share any findings in this thread if I get the urge for a new ROM.
Thanks for the awesome work on this!!

I rooted my fathers Ting Evo 4g LTE, went through the Dev unlock and rumrunner S-off etc and put the latest cm11 nightly (from the cm download page) on his phone and I could not get data to work at all. So I looked around and found several places like this that said it had to do with the APNs and so I added manually the APN listed and still nothing. it would send sms and phone calls but no data, it wouldn't even say 1X, 3G, or LTE above the signal bars. I moved onto step B, nothing. Step C and flashed the zip file, nothing. And still nothing with the last resort zip. The closest I got was when the 3G symbol appeared above the signal bar but it simply would not connect to the internet. In the quick settings dropdown the signal bars remained orange and there were no up/down indicators at all.
I tried different zips from the Ting forums and some from the Optimus G forums, wiping and reflashing CM11 often to make sure the zips weren't conflicting, and still absolutely nothing! I am really at a loss here. I had to go through and run the JB 4.1 RUU and immediately 3G was working again and everything. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

[Q] (Q) Data connection is gone after firmware flashing - How to fix??

I'll try to make this post as short as possible while still including all the details. I own an unlocked samsung galaxy s 2 in the US and have ATT as my provider.
After flashing different ROMs and firmware (exynos, lite'ning, cognition and the chainfire version of my firmware to be exact), my data connection is gone. I wrestled with it yesterday to no avail, because in the end my "Mobile network state" is always disconnected. Today, however, I changed the apn settings to the old ATT "wap" settings and the internet was restored. The speeds were somewhat slow, but i didn't care so long as they remained functioning. About two hours later - the connection crapped out. Oh, and I should also mention - I got a new sim card from ATT today assuming that my issue was a messed up and card from flashing too many roms with it still inside. Needless to say, that didn't work.
So, I'm here now attempting all sorts of remedies with no luck. ATM I am on cog 5.1 with the "correct" apn settings found here on xda, which hasn't worked either.
Has anyone else has this issue of losing their data connection altogether (although keeping wifi)? Does anyone have suggestions that might bring the data back to life?
Thanks!

what correct* apn settings are you using?
I'm using "phone" for the APN and leaving the rest blank (with the exception of APN type, which is internet).
Just minutes ago I reset to default APNs one more time to see if it would work, but nothing. I'll try the wap.cingular APN now to see if it at least picks up some data.

If you are still ' Rom hunting' as such, it is always a good idea to use program like apn manager so you dont have to manually enter your settings after every flash.
As my provider has nearly every field full, it can be a very timely exercise every time you change roms - lets face it, it can take some time to find the one we love

Those settings, wherever they're from, WORK. I had memorized the other common one already, so as soon as I saw the differences in yours I knew it would work. Unfortunately, I (literally) couldn't thank you enough for it.
Is that apn yours personally or just dug up from elsewhere here on XDA? I'm hoping it stands the test of time and continues to work after tonight... The speeds are all over the place for some reason, but at this point it doesn't matter to me, I'm just glad I don't need a WIFI connection at all times.
Oh, and the APN manager is downloading as we speak - good call. I've followed DG's from when I had my captivate a while back, so I'm gonna continue testing Cognition out for a little longer. Maybe like another day - then back to flashing =)

Thank you gentlemen for your suggestions. I cannot delete the factory apn, or edit it. I saw there was a mod to remove it, but it's been removed. Anyone know another way to remove/edit it?

I deleted all of the APNs except for 'ATT Phone'. Not sure if that is the default one or not. If it is not, you can simply edit the default one that can not be deleted and just make it identical to 'ATT Phone'. The info for that apn is on xda somewhere but here it is just in case....

Reboot after changes are made. Then install "GPS Status" app if you are not using that already. Turn off WiFi and 'WiFi & mobile network location'. Then test GPS using that app to see if it detects gps/sats.
This worked for me and I had the same symptom you are having. My thinking is that it was not happy with the other apns being in there. Which makes sense because stock/slick/snow roms are built off of stock and they only have one apn.

GPS on this phone seems to be kind of a mystery.
I have been using TWRP since day one, I've run CFX from original development, as well as SnowJB, Stock ATT 20j, SlickJB, Rootbox, CarbonRom, AOKP and CM10.1 from android development, and now LiquidSmooth, and I have NEVER had an issue with GPS. It actually locks faster than my 2010 tomtom (350LMT?). I have never taken any action toward ensuing that my GPS works aside from running GPS status after flashing a new rom.

On two occasions I was unable to get a lock. Once I had WiFi disabled, so I enabled it, got a lock, then proceeded to disable WiFi and haven't had an issue since. The next time I simply walked outside of the building I was in, and instant lock.

On two occasions I was unable to get a lock. Once I had WiFi disabled, so I enabled it, got a lock, then proceeded to disable WiFi and haven't had an issue since. The next time I simply walked outside of the building I was in, and instant lock.

Yeah, literally the only issues I have EVER had with my GPS have been caused directly by the building I was in.
I did have an issue with HSPA not wanting to connect once after flashing an NFC fix, but even that was temporary. On that note though, I have yet to be able to get NFC to work on an AOSP rom.
EDIT: NFC works fine on LiquidSmooth. Did not even turn on with Rootbox or CarbonRom.
Yeah my issue is that I don't even see the GPS icon in the status bar. Nothing. The only time I get a lock is when I enable help from wifi and cell signals.
It is really frustrating because almost every ROM I use the GPS works, but as soon as I go back to stock rooted JB GPS is gone.
I'm beginning to think that my file structure might be the culprit. I have multiple sdcard directories (labaled 0,1, etc.) and several erroneous ext_card directories. I'm thinking I might have to just scrub the entire phone and restore it to bone stock, update JB OTA, and root it, to get it working, but I would really like to avoid this, as it's a butt ton of work.

so I am happy to report that I finally got gps working again. for me it involved going completely back to stock (via LGNPST). then following the slick rom guidance for fixing gps and actually flashing slick ROM. at the end when gps was working in slick ROM I flashed stock jb again and behold it was working. the key step here for me was flashing back to stock.
thanks to all who helped me with this process!

[Q] 4G connection issue

I am unable to get reliable data on my CM11 rom on my razr maxx. I have checked all the network setting with a friend's whos is working and there are two differences:
1. His APN is grayed out
2. I do not get a "pass" on HTTP client test when I go into #*#*4636*#*#
When I fire up the phone it connects at 3G. It then takes about 10 minutes to go to LTE. When it does, it is DOG slow.
I also have the same issue with CM11 roms on my Incredible 4G LTE. It was thinking it was the sim, but it works fine on a stock rom. I have seen other folks with similar issues, but no resolution.

Brilliant! Fixed.
I did have to change the permissions on the APN app before moving it. After restoring the APN's from stock, I did have to go in an select the appropriate one.
Follow-Up
After about a day of use, this stopped working. This morning, I was unable to connect via LTE. If I chose an appropriate APN, it would not stay selected (if I went back into APN's after making a change it would be set to something else).
What I did to fix this was to use APN Backup and Restore to delete all the APN's and then restore ONLY the APN's from the stock ROM. So far, it is working.

It looks like the APN's get jacked when I use WIFI. Any thoughts?

This is what I did to fix the issue. It doesn't just fix the LTE, but the entire connection overall. (Atleast for me, please leave a follow up if you try this).

I have been having issues connecting to the LTE network. Right now, there is no solution. I have tried almost everything. I have even tired flashing back to stock with RSD Lite. I made sure that it wasn't the SIM card (i have had issues with the SIM before on a different phone) by putting it in a different/newer 4G LTE device and it connected to 4G LTE with no problem. My RAZR will connect to 4G LTE when I am in certain areas, but the connection isn't a lasting one. It will quickly switch back to 3G. I contacted Verizon Wireless and even took it into a store. They told me that it's the upgrades that they're doing to the network. While the customer service representative said that my model of the RAZR was just outdated and is probably experiencing hardware issues. My solution used to work, but now it's something else. (Hardware or Network related). My suggestion would be to contact Verizon about the issue (revert to stock first; if you need a link as to how to do that, PM me and I will help point you in the right direction.)

Have you tried APN Backup and Restore on CM 11? There are some other flashable fixes as well that I have seen. APN Backup and Restore has worked a few times but I have to do it after every restart.

I haven't. BUT I'm running on my stock ROM right now. And it's having trouble connecting. I have to restart just to get 4G. And it lasts for a few seconds and then (in the *#*#4636#*#* testing menu) the signal strength turns all weird (I'll provide the number of dBm later when it comes back). Then goes straight to 3G and no matter how hard I try, it won't switch back to 4G unless I restart. I think it could have something to do with the radio (well obviously it is). But something serious that we can't fix unless we have an unlocked bootloader. If frickin' Motorola would let us unlock the device, then we'd be golden.

Sprint Note 3 programmed to boost NO DATA

Ok i need help. Im not new to rooting and roms however im no where near a pro. I have a sprint note 3 sm900p flashed to boost and activated by them (boost). I have had no data for 2 weeks aside from wifi. I have LITERALLY searched high and low EVERYWHERE including here and nothing has worked to restore it. So basically i rooted and played around with a couple touchwiz roms and then decided to go to temaseks cm 12.1 amd all was well for weeks. Then one day i noticed i didnt get 3g so i messed around with some settings and the best i could get was it to pop up and then disappear but at that point lte still worked so i was ok with that. I ended up flashing back to a stockish touchwiz and my phone kept trying to do the hands free activation that wouldnt work. prl update and profile update wouldnt work. (yes i have read high and low on fixes for those too, but anways no data at all. The crazy part is that my phone on the touchwiz roms shows 3g and 4g lte wherever they are available i just cannot connect to internet or anything else involving data. My wifi works and calling and texting works as well. So i called boost tried to explain to them i did a data reset cause i was having issues ##72786# and it messed my phone up because i didnt know what other reason to give. anyways they were adamant we try it to fix data so i do and then all of a sudden i dont have calls or texts or data so they have me do ##msl# and sure enough my mdn and my msid somehow get switched to some crazy 000000 numbers at the end and they have me reenter my phone number and msid and then phone reboots and calling and texting are fine again but still no data. So we hard reset ##786# and that did nothing but delete everything on the phone which i knew it would except it didnt fix my problem. then they give me a bunch of crap how they arent sure and that they will send me a new sim card (nned it for lte with sprint note 3 on boost) and that should fix my data 3g and 4g. Currently waiting for that card but dont think its going to fix anything. I have absolutely no more ideas on what to do. I have tried everything i can think of and searched a million different ways and cant find a single thread relating to my exact issue. PHone currently can make calls and texts as well as recieve and wifi works. but absolutely no 3g or 4g anymore except phone shows it in the status bar. SO PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN HELP OR HAS ANY IDEAS PLEASE PM me or leve a reply or ANYTHING....i just want to fix my data.
Anything at all?

boost Data Fixed
TW Roms Build Number N900PVPUEOC5
Well Im no Programmer But I got my data Boost mobile data working on my note 3 after i got the run around from boost
and sprint by trying to reset phone add this and add that. FIRST BEFORE YOU START U WILL NEED SOME APPS AND PROGRAMS ON COMPUTER
first switch over your phone number (MDN and MIN) by calling boost or do it over the internet. Then when they are good then we need to switch the phone over by going to setting by dial ##MSL# (Copy MSL number for later) boost rep will give it to u when setting your phone up.
After u can make a call and text your phone is connecting to network just have to get APN working to get data simple as that
1. I reccomend Installing A recovery CWM/TWRP By Odin (See Website) Then do a backup incase something get screwed up or deleted
2. Need MSL So u can edit setting (Call Boost or Hack It)
3. PRL Helper on Playstore (Flashes the Prl file)
4. Root Explorer or ES File Explorer might need SU Acess (see Rooting or Flash rooted Stock Rom by TWRP
5. Su access if not u find out how to root http://honai-android.blogspot.com/2013/11/how-to-root-galaxy-note-3-sprint-sm.html
6. Advance Signal Status is good to make sure your antenna is on the right setting mine was on gsm/CDMA which was wrong.
TW base Rom ( You wont be able to add or change the APN since the APN is not register to sprint APN in the sim.. Mine was locked to page plus phone but was baught as a sprint note 3. Dont know if it hardware related or Rom related but it would not save when changing the mcc and mnc numbers. Mine was locked to 311 and 00 and needed changed to 310 and 120 for sprint for those settings and would not change it would just delete it when trying to save it.
1. First u need to copy contents from carrier-GS4.zip over to the carrier folder from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2628452 thanks to him for uploading it.
2. Now when u reboot your notice it say sprint or Boost dont remember which instead of chameleon on service provider And now u can edit APN since the MCC and MNC is correct now.
3. You will have to go to APN folder in ##DATA# click edit and enter MSL.. For some reason u cant modify it in the Rom APN setting (Dont Understand Why) but u can in ##data#.
4. Now u can delete the old Apn setting and add new or correct APN Settings.

If u cant add the APN through ##data# u can try the boost unversal boost fix at http://androidforums.com/threads/bo...al-boost-apn-fix-for-d2lte-builds-mod.840501/ through twrp. Then go back in ##DATA# to see if u can change the APN .
6. go to MMSC in ##DATA# and see if it correct say http://mm.myboostmobile and all that is correct.
7. Now check for currect prl since it can make your 4g not work if not current like mine was a old apn.
8. Download a current .prl file searching on here or internet u can find them. While searching I could find boost .prl 33030, Current is 33041 (2015), Sprint Prl is 55026 seems to work fine.. But put the file on the sd card and open prl helper app u downloaded and flash the prl (Your Phone Should Restart)
9. 4g should be working now mms text working
sprint activation does not work so u can ether disable it
10.Now u should make a TWRP backup.
TW ROMS Build Number N900PVPUEOH1 I dont know if this goes with all roms with this build number but I recently upgraded by Samsung Kies 3 to experiment with and did factory reset and found that APN seting are able to be change and can save it.
On ASOP Roms You cant update your PRL. So it not a bad idea to have a TW backup so u can update the prl time to time. But enough about that on ASOP roms there isnt much prob to modifing the APN to work it just some roms dont have the listing for the APN since sometimes its hidden. If u cant edit normally you can use Xshortcut From PlayStore or similar app. If that doesnt work you can also use boost unversal boost fix from above in TWRP to see if it worked. I used it before which added the necessary APN but if the radio messes up by not connecting automatically. You can erase the data on cell broadcast in the manage apps and it should fix any connection prob. I would recommend making a backup before flashing any thing from TWRP since u cant redo if it messes up. Thats about it so if it didnt work u can try other ways people posted on here. Just reboot and see if it stays connected.
I hope this helped anybody that been through hell trying to go through sprint and boost for help.
Thank you so much bro that did the trick have literally tried everything and was only able to get 4g no 3g. I knew about that fix but I didn't know it would work for the note 3 and it literally fixed everything thank you so much bro.
im glad it worked for u
I tryed this and got stuck on sprint logo? What did I do wrong?
luiseno
sorry for the late response but did u figure out the prob with your phione
can you show me the link that you downloaded and flashed? and what version note 3 do you have>
SIM Card
I am waiting for the SIM Card from Boost.
They told me that I should be able to get 3G without the SIM Card.
I was able to write the APNs for boost using different ROMs but I can't get 3G.
Maybe I do need the SIM Card to get both 3G and 4G LTE?
Ya they did that same thing to me because on their end ( which I'm sure they told you) your phone is receiving data and fully working according to their system data even though obviously it isn't just like mine wasn't. While I was waiting for the new sim card I did receive 3g and when the sim card came once i put it in and
They helped me walk through it I was right back at square one which is probably where you will end up even though I hope not for your sake. Either way do exactly what maximum overdrive ( I believe it was him) says in his post above. I only had to flash the boost mobile fix ( s3 thread I think but search will get you to it) via twrp to get LTE back but my phone wouldnt get 3g at that point. I was on temaseks rom. The zip file says it only works for touchwiz but I had other results as stated. My network went from unknown or chameleon back to boost. I then flashed the s6 port by sacs and played with the apns ( you can find info above) and manually do it. I did it through the data menu (##3282#) I believe that's what it is....I then got 3g and LTE then I flashed temaseks ROM again and only had LTE again. Then I flashed dirty unicorns and after toggling airplane mode a few times got the apns visible and edited in the boost apns and deleted the others rebooted and bang profit.... I have both 3g and 4g again... NO THANKS TO BOOST OR SPRINT..... I LOVE XDA!!

Hello all.. I have been scouring everywhere for a fix to my problem and I think this is it.. Quick run down of my situation..
I have a S900P (original owner) Sprint's coverage at my old house was **** so I bought out my contract and just put the phone in storage. FF to now. I get amazing 4G LTE at my new location. So I reactivate my note 3 with Boost. Everything is fine till I start playing round with flashing custom rom's, at which point I was unable to get ANY data service on ANY custom ROM. (deodexed stock ROM's worked fine). I've lost track of how many modem/baseband/software combos I have gone through but here's where I'm at now..
I am using the original Sprint SIM card which came with the phone.
I'm pretty sure at this point all I need to do is get a new SIM from Boost, and proceed from there using my current build. Please let me know if I'm on the right track, WAY off, or What.
As always THANKS XDA for your godliness!!
A few points of clarification...

No Data on CM-based ROMs

Hey guys, I'm royally stumped with this issue. For some background info I have the VZW G3 (VS985) and I have it on Straight Talk using their CDMA/LTE network (Verizon/Sprint).
My Problem
On any CM-based (or more generally, AOSP) ROM I cannot get data. This is a new issue since the past few days. I tried on Candy5, BlissPop, and ResurrectionRemix. I had data working on BlissPop for awhile until one day it just stopped working. If I go to a stock-based ROM (I only tried JasmineROM) data works perfectly again. According to the Phone Info in the service menu, GPRS isn't connecting. If I toggle the radio it'll say connecting until I leave the screen and come back when it'll say disconnected. I'm not sure what's causing the issue, and would love to know if anyone else is having an issue. I hate the stock ROM with a passion (the layout and UI) and would love to stick to AOSP if I can. Thanks in advance!!
EDIT
The Solution
My APN settings were off. I went back to stock to get the APN and it turns out that Straight Talk changed the APN name. Here is the APN info...

I'm on cm 12.1(snapshot) and occasionally lose my data but this usually happens when i'm coming back from twrp. A soft reset solves this issue for me. What are your network settings? I'm on Verizon also. Mine are Global/automatic/(ruim/sim). apn is verizon internet.

Try flashing the latest 23c modem for the vs985
It turns out it was the APN settings. I went to stock and grabbed the APN. Because I'm on Straight Talk via BYOP the APN name was different. I'll edit the OP with the APN info for anyone else who needs it.
