Lol. Then you are free of the hassle of opening and closing the port cover for charging. Sorry for the useless comment, couldn't help it.

Protip: Use AirDroid to transfer files to and from your device(s). No cables involved. A little late though, since you've already lost your port cover.

Im sure there is replacement part for that. I can almost guarantee that you will not be the only having it ripped out. Those covers look fragile. Contact Sony. Good luck. Please fill us in where u can obtain those, just in case.

question about back cover

I was trying to remove the cover quickly and I by accident removed a metal contact, as it shows on the pic. anybody knows what is that for? just for NFC? I tried to search online but found not much info on this.
thanks.

I don't think it's for NFC. I believe the one on the bottom left is for NFC. Might be wifi or something else.
I still have the metal contact, does anybody know how I can put it back? Or may be take it to a sprint store to get it fix? But I dont have insurance though.
I haven't notice any problems anyway.
Thanks for any help.

It looks like the NFC antenna. Shouldn't be much of a issue. Everything should work just fine. If you're signal goes weak or can't get lte then have it fixed it shouldn't be too hard. I could fix it at work in 5 mins.

Yes but you need a heat gun. A special heat gun or take your phone apart not something to learn on. If you can't surface mount solder already don't try you will do more damage then good. I wouldn't touch some else's phone much less mine to solder that contact. It's in a tricky and hard place to solder. I've been soldering on surface mount for 7 years and don't know if I could do it.

[Q] Phone got wet. Total loss?

Hello!,
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right section but you guys can correct me if I'm wrong and I'll move it to another post.
So here is the case for my Sony Xperia Sola. It fell in water and when I picked it up and turned it on it turned on (bad mistake I know! but that was the first time I ever dropped my phone in water and didn't know what to do in that situation.) it seemed fine but I was still worry. I took out my Sim and SD card and let it dry for an hour. After an hour I turned it on again and it seemed fine so I just left it alone. I never turned off the phone though just for clarification, which I should have after many research but it was too late. Next day I tried turning it on again and it won't power on just a black screen. Then I put the charger on it and the red L.E.D. came on. So I thought the battery was just low tried again to power on but still a black screen. Am I at a total loss here? Can anything be done to save my phone I love this phone and I just had it for 2 months. Maybe a fried battery by chance?
The first thing you should do when a electronic device falls in water is to put it in a jar filled with rice, the rice will absorb water but I guess it's too late to tell you that. If you have still locked bootloader and warranty you could try going to assistance. Hope you solve the problem
Sent from my MT27i using xda premium
I heard this from a friend who has tried this with success, immediately put the device in a container filled with alcohol. It repels the water and does not harm electronics. Remove the battery of course.... Let dry... Should work fine.

Yeah, That's what I thought too. Heard that you can't remove the battery, but is it possible to take it apart to find the battery inside? Not a good idea but why not right, phone isn't turning on so minus well. Do you think it could be a fried battery? My front l.e.d. light comes on so any possibility there?
If led turns on I don't think it's battery problem, maybe screen doesn't work cuz water did something there.
You actually can take out battery some how but then it loses warranty

My brother just had this happen. A repair technician told him to take the phone apart and clean the corrosion off of the contacts throughout the phone. You can see it. He did, and the phone is fine now....

My brother didn't remove either. I think because alcohol evaporates very quick. He put his whole phone in the container. Later, after it dried, the phone worked. Maybe it was a fluke......

Unable to root or update due to bad charging port

Hey everyone. My charger port has to be replaced and until I can cough up the cash to get it fixed, I was wondering if there was a way I could still root my galaxy note without a PC? I have searched this forum and had no answers so if somebody could help me out I would deeply appreciate it.

Sorry for the bad news, but no. There's no way to root without a pc.
The usb port is $15.99 shipped on eBay. It took me 20 minutes to replace it myself.
I thought had a bad port turned out to be my cable maybe try a different cable and hit the port with air duster goodluck

Thanks man I apperciate that. I went to Cell Phone Repair (CPR) in my city earlier they said they would replace it for 85$ not too bad for me seeing how i bought this galaxy note for 160$ from my friend. On a side note she did tell me it would have to be fixed so i guess Im gonna either order the part myself and do it or either pay to have it done.

Air duster = a can of compressed air, used to blow dust and lint out of crevices like the usb/charging port. Or a belly button

Well not true. There are wireless connection methods used everywhere with this phone: I happen to use Hyperdrive Rom's FTP transfer to connect my MDK S4 to my home's wireless network, to transfer files between phone and computer. You can do everything you need to wirelessly: charging, and file transfers!!
You don't need to fix anything, just buy the wireless charging thing, and do wireless file transfers!
Plus we've got removable batteries. I've got two spares and an external charger/dock. I just rotate the batteries while charging isn't available.

Oh, good point. Well, I guess if you need to use one of those things, you'll have to replace the USB port, or lose your MDK. Sucks, but I'd go for replacing the USB port any day. It's a good opportunity for learning more about how phones are put together, too.
UPDATE: Ordered the part from Amazon, got it in about 2 days. Took about 10 minutes to swap, and that was only because I was having a hard time putting the super small screws back in. Everything went well and I have a working usb port and kept MDK!

I purchased this product because my Galaxy S4 USB port stopped working. I installed the replacement part and so far so good - my phone charges again! It's no bigger than the cutouts for the headphones on most cases so this should be fine to use on a phone with a case. It is in fact the same size as most headphone connectors so if a headphone fits so will this. Just an excuse to spend 24p really lol that's why I bought one, no reason to.. No reason not to. Although I do think being able to activate the flash with one click even with the phone in standby is pretty useful for me personally.

Any effect on battery life?
My G3 (D855) seems to be having issue detecting anything that I plug in the headphone jack other than the stock headphones that came with it. I tried plugging in the pressy button and a portable speaker on separate occasions but they were only detected momentarily. The button works fine on my old phone which is a galaxy note n7000 so I'm pretty sure it isn't spoilt.
Anyone has any clue about this issue? Otherwise I'll probably send my G3 for repair since it's still obviously still under warranty.
I am having issue with Pressy on g3 and my other phone so it's not the phone it's Pressy.
