[Q] Can we enable the speakers to go stereo? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

I checked the other speaker questions but didn't really satisfy me.
As you can see with our Z Ultras the earphone and speakerphones look to be the same (symetrical). It reminded me of the HTC One which has the best front forward speakers when watching a movie, and also have symmetrical speakers.
Is there a way we can boost the left earphone to match the right when watching a movie like the HTC One speakers? I am hoping it's not a limitation of the hardware earphone because if we could boost the left speaker to match the right it would be awesome!
Anyone know anything about it?
Thanks!

Getting audio from anything other than the person on the other end of the call is not possible. I'm also pretty sure the earpiece speaker would break if you pumped the volume up that high (the conference option while in a call will activate the "big" speaker, i.e the speaker at the bottom).
- Mono = 1 (Ultra)
- Stereo = 2 (HTC One)

Dude, they are not symmetrical at all. You're confusing the speaker with the microphone. The loudspeaker is at the bottom side, near the corner. Try playing some audio and cover it with your finger and you'll hear difference.

D'oh! I didn't realize that wasn't the speaker. I think the next Ultra should follow what the HTC one did because it would be perfect!
Thanks for the clarification, unk_damnation!

I realized now that i failed in my previous post. I though you asked if it was possible to use the second - in-call ear-piece, as a regular speaker I'm a little slow today.

Does the SGS2 sport 2 (two) speakers?

One thing that always bugged me with the SGS is that, with the help of Supercurio & hardcore, we got the use of some beautiful sounding earphone output but the speaker output was very poor.
Also, why always only one speaker? The SGWifi now has stereo speakers which should make them sound much better and the iPhone4 has them, but my question is: Does the SGS2 have dual speakers?
The only picture I've seen on the back has ONE speaker on the lower side but I can't see the other side.
Many thanks.
The product page on At&t states the captivated had dual speakers. Shrug

I remember reading somewhere that it has dual speakers.....
Problem is I cant remember where I read it now.
I would think one speaker is the norm, especially on super-thin smartphones. The stereo speakers on my Nokia 6233 five years ago were awesome.
Dont forget you phone aint no ghettoblaster!
It wont sound good no matter how many or what kind of speakers you put in there... At least to someone who has sensible ears. It should be loud enough so it wakes you up in the morning and so you hear when someone sent you an sms/calls you.
The only use of dual speakers is to annoy other people in a public settings - I'd rather have a thinner/lighter/cheaper smartphone than such a useless feature.
I really HATE people who use phone speakers in public transportation. If I wanted to hear their music I would put it on my phone Only feature it is good for is for your notification sound/ringtone or in private situations.
Don't forget that what you want or don't want doesn't always apply to what other people want or don't want. I would love to see dual speakers to get a little more clarity and a little more volume. There are several times that I've used my phone to play music in a group setting because, while the speaker isn't the best, it's the best we had. For example, Tuesday nights are poker night. I'll probably throw my phone on Pandora just to play some background music.

my old HTC had dual speaker, and it delivered real stereo instead of monofied stereo on the standard single speakers phones

[Q] ear piece and speaker volume

Hello,
I have read in reviews that the ear piece speaker and external facing speaker are not the best in our phone, HTC Amaze, however, I was wondering if any one had tweaks or an app to "boost" them, outside of manually adjusting the volume on the phone of course?
I think I saw 2 apps that were developed for the nexus galaxy that improved the LED and the speakers respectively.
Thanks for any ideas

you say that cuz of the reviews you have read or cuz you really feel they are not the best?
I have found that I would like a louder ear piece and speaker.
It is OK in a quiet environment however, if there is exterior or ambient noise I feel myself working harder than I would like to ensure I hear clearly the person speaking.
You don't have a similar experience?
I'm fine. Everyone's hearing is different however. Are you talking about direct ear contact or strictly headphones?

direct ear contact I find the volume level and quality not as good as I would like.

Jeesh! It is a common problem in a noisy environment. I have excellent hearing and no ear wax...ewww. I have a terrible time hearing through the earpiece and find myself constantly moving the phone around on my ear trying to find the sweet spot.
If you enable the "hearing aids" option in settings/call, it will amplify the sound considerably but then it sounds like a speakerphone with no privacy. Maybe in a very noisy environment, that wouldn't be a problem. I tried it in my local very noisy grocery store and it worked fine but still sounded too much like the speakerphone. At least I could hear what the other person was saying!
I have moved the phone around my ear a lot to figure out where the loudest sound is coming from and when I sort of point the very top of the phone at the ear canal, the sound is much louder. Maybe this will help but it is still frustrating. Never had a phone that is so hard to hear in a noisy environment.

[Q] How good are the speakers?

Everyone knows the One has great sound. Since I don't know anyone who currently owns the One and don't think I can get a real feel in-store, can current owners give me a comparative opinion?
My frames of reference are the Galaxy Note 10.1 stereo speakers and the Nokia N8.
Thanks!
I had the nexus 10, which I think was supposed to have the same speakers as the galaxy note series.
The One's speakers are much fuller in terms of range and soundstage. Highs are higher and lows are deeper.
The only positive aspect of the N10/Note's speakers were that they were front spacing, quality wise they were relatively crappy-sounding.
I'm very pleased with the speakers, I will admit I thought they would be a little louder but the sound quality is impressive. If you disable beats the volume is a little greater Imo. I'd try to find a demo unit and mess with it.

They're almost obnoxiously loud, but the quality is amazing. I don't want another phone with rear speakers.

They won't replace any headsets or speaker docks, but they have brought built in speakers from hideous to surprisingly acceptable. They're magnitudes better than the very very low bar that is the norm.

Agreed... I have to keep my ringer to half or so in the house because of the volume but I wouldn't have it any other way...

I had to get a new alarm clock that slowly increases the volume of the alarm over 5 minutes. The standard alarm on the One scared the crap out of me in the morning on two occasions.
I agree with the others. The sound is loud but also clear. My GS3 speaker would get loud but that was only if it was facing away from you or if the sound was reflecting off of something. While it was loud it sounded really distorted. The speakers on the One are loud and don't sound like a teeny tiny cellphone speaker. They sound like decent laptop speakers.

Is amazing how good and crisp they sound. One of those things that you think is overhyped marketing.....and when you see it in action you don't want to get another phone with rear speaker. Crisp. Clear. If music played has stereo quality it comes out as it should. Obviously, these are small speakers, but for the size it's amazing.
I use my One to play music for my office floor. Rameses b. Not bad stuff. Check him out.
Excellent speakers.

I love the speakers, they are loud, but not overbearing, the quality is much better than most others phones I have heard. Im happy I dont have to cup my hand behind the phone anymore just to hear the sound when im watching a youtube video. all in all, I think its the fact that the speakers are in front instead of on the back, it makes for a better user experience IMO.:good:
My 2 year old can finally listen to "wheels on the bus" in stereo quality, praise the Lord!

Could be a defect - though I haven't got a 1+1 to compare to...
Its just as loud as my htc one m8 though.
Its plenty loud in my opinion. Was slightly disappointed when i realised it was only one speaker on the bottom
Probably a defect. Get a return or refund. The earpiece and speaker both get LOUD.

You can't really compare the two, the OPO has stereo output. The OPX has only the left speaker. Unless you are referring to the ear speaker, then they about the same.
It's not really clear enough to hear especially when I'm outside

It was a Hardware issue or do you solve these issue with Software? Like reset vor fullwipe? I have the same Problem... I can hear my phone-partner but it is verry verry noisy...
Either you really have a hardware defect or a serious problem with your hearing
I nearly get a heart attack every morning when my alarm goes off... and yes, it is THAT loud! -.- I had to reduce the volume of my alarm .mp3 via software to be bearable.
Mine is ok. Slightly above average. Maybe its individual preference
I don't mean the two speakers on the bottom side. I mean the speaker which we use for calling on the top side. Alarm and Musik works great, because it cames Form the two speakers.
It's possible to make stereo sound with earpiece like nexus 5?

OPO is dual-speakers, not stereo output. Although, my OPX still has a louder loudspeaker as my OPO. This is very noticeable in playing games and music.

Speakers: upper one next to frontcam has more "loudness" than lower one on music

Sorry for my englsih,
seems that the upper speaker has more loudness/bass than the lower one.
Not that it is much louder but it sounds "fuller", the lower one a bit thinner.
Are there minimal differneces between the speakers as the upper one is the one for phone calls and a kind of "primary" maybe?
Have no compare device so I just liked to ask here.
Thx
I experience this on my z5 E6653, but assumed it was because the bottom speaker is in a different position internally because the micro USB has to be able to fit.

Well, been searching for a teardown too and it looked like different speakers, not that good to view, but maybe.
Anyway, since that it is "no stereo" stereo?
There's another thread on here somewhere about this. Most people were reporting there top speaker being louder. My bottom one is a bit louder. There is an xposed module that adjusts stereo volume by channel so if you're rooted there is hope.
Well its not louder, its "fatter" volume, more bass.
Store told me thats fine as only the upper one is made for bass, so they should be both at same volume, mine are, but the one next to USB sounds thinner at same volume.
So all fine with that as long as they are equal loud.
