[Q] bricked my evo lte - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I tried installing beanstalk on my evo 4g lte and its bricked now. I unlocked the bootloader with htcdev and I'm using twrp with SuperSU-v1.55. My evo has Hboot 2.09 and S-on. I've tried a lot of different things from the videos I've watched on youtube and from the threads here but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help PLEASE!!!

My phone wont boot up at all. It was stuck in "boot loop" earlier but now it tries to boot once and then remains off. I can still get into the bootloader and twrp but thats it.

i'll try. Thanks much

Definitely look into going s-off. It will save you so much heartache in the future if you like to flash and try out different roms. A couple hours of reading and following all of the tutorials to gain s-off, in my opinion, is a much better trade off than trying to figure out how to get your semi bricked phone into an operable state again. Besides, getting s-off is a great learning experience.

Bootloader and twrp access is not a brick man. You just gotta fastboot the boot.img either before or after flashing whatever Rom you want. (This is because you're s on). I used to do it right before I flashed the Rom so I could just reboot to twrp and flash away without having to restart again. The command is "fastboot flash boot boot.img" from cmd promt on pc. Make sire the boot.img from the Rom zip is extracted to the same folder as fastboot and adb. And of course assuming you have the latest drivers for your device on your pc.

How is this a brick. You have all the access you need to get it up and running. This is not even soft bricked.
Your S-ON. You need to flash the kernel separately or flash a s-on friendly ROM.
You should read the sticky threads in "general" and "q&a" especially the one named "don't panic".

[Q] New Weird Unresolvable Problem?...

Okay so i've had my htc evo 3d for a while and i decided to root it finally.
i rooted it, everything was fine, it was s-on.
i flashed like 3 roms and everything was great, ....until i flashed a kernel.
i first used the MAC kernel, and it worked great.
but then i flashed the "No name" kernel from the same creator from the MAC kernel for the htc evo 3d and i got bootloops?
i also noticed it sent me back to Hboot 1.57 somehow? and i was on 1.58?
so, i went back into 4ext recovery and wiped everything and flashed a stock rom i had.
yet, i still have the bootloop going on...
what do i do? i really want my htc evo 3d back, i had to go back to my lg optimus V for now until someone can help me :/
Thank you for your time, and to whoever helps me with my semi-bricked device

It's not a Rom or kernel issue, try flashing my pg86img.zip in the EVO 3d gsm development thread, adding your own cid to the text file (this has only been tested on gsm) but if your already looping what's the harm in trying
But my htc is CDMA. Sorry I forgot to mention it's from virgin Mobile.

I don't think that's even relevant, but I'm gsm and can't test cdma so I can't tell you it works, but on another note, where's the harm in trying
S-on is an issue, I believe because you are s-on the kernel flash was bad, some kernels require s-off , did you try another kernel, or flashing bootimg through fastboot

Yeah I think it's an issue too. I've tried flashing the MAC kernel that worked before and nothing. Where can I find a bootimg? Is it the same as pg86img?
Sent from my LG-VM670 using xda premium
No, pg86img is the firmware but some Roms have the bootimg within the zip, just open your Rom with WinZip or 7zip extract bootimg and place it on your sdcard and flash it with fastboot

The unnamed kernel requires S-OFF to work correctly
You can try 4ext, but you might need to run a ruu and.start from scratch again?

If you have the Virgin Mobile version of the Evo 3D the RUU.exe you want to use is the fourth one from the top on this page.
To flash the RUU.exe, if you have HTC unlocked the bootloader you will need to "fastboot oem lock" with the phone in the "fastboot USB" mode in the bootloader, then start the RUU.exe from Windows. It takes about 10 minutes to run and should leave you with a totally stock configuration, except the bootloader will say "***RELOCKED***" at the top instead of "***LOCKED***".
Before you run that it might be worth starting 4EXT recovery by using "fastboot boot recovery.img" from a PC and flashing a mostly stock rooted ROM like MeanROM ICS or CleanROM BE ICS because it sounds like you may just have a non-bootable kernel and 4EXT SmartFlash required for flashing kernels directly from recovery with S-ON won't work if the current kernel is not bootable. You could also try flashing the stock VM kernel from here after using the fastboot command to start recovery.

You should reflash a Stock ROM from RUU or extract ROM.ZIP to flash via Fastboot.

Thanks alot for your reply ramjet,
okay, well i tried downloading the 4th one from where you told me and file factory is giving me a "problem loading page" so i cant download it. i have my htc locked now and it says ***RELOCKED*** so all i need to do now is install the 4ext recovery through bootloader and flash the rom and kernel and run RUU,but i need your download.
Edit: So i tried flashing recovery.img through fastboot and i got "cannot load 'recovery.img'" ?
No, ramjet told you to flash 4ext recovery before you do anything, now you can't flash recovery because you have a locked bootloader.
if you still want to go the 4ext way, you will have to unlock bootloader via htcdev.com again or use the same unlock code.bin that you used previously. then fastboot flash the recovery. then get a Rom that works with your bootloader version and flash it using 4ext recovery with smartflash turned on.

I had a similar problem. I unlocked and rooted my EVO LTE ... Then I tried to install a custom ROM and it just got stuck at the boot animation. I didnt do a back up or anything so I was just stuck. I was able to get into Recovery. As a matter of fact I fixed it last night by loading up flashing that superwipe zip and flashing Stock with Goodies ROM. Now my EVO LTE works fine.

Hey there
I had the same problem, just when I loaded the goodies rom it crashed. Can't do anything, except boot into TWRP. Basically if I try to reflash a rom it should solve my problem?
Most likely you need to flash the kernel, use that image flash app or adb tools/android SDK to flash it in fastboot
I had a feeling
First, thanks
Ok, can I use TWRP to flash the Kernel or is there an app or pc that ill have to use?
You can use fastboot to flash the kernel or the image flash app, I havent got a link for it right now but its probably in themes and apps or original development
No PC
I don't have a PC to use. I'm wondering if I could go recovery->advance->terminal command. I see a fast lot process, but requires a PC.
Not that I know of, you need access to fastboot
Dumlock?
Reading on dumlock, else return to project when computer is available. Thanks for the help.
You can't use dumlock without access to android
So it appears
*sigh* got all excited flashed a rom without a kernel, and now **** out of luck. Seemed so much easier for my OGEVO. So my only option is to do a fast boot with a PC using the .zip I have on the sdcard?

[Q] need help! 1.19 unlocked and rooted, still cant install anything

This is my first post so sorry if what I ask is stupid or something. I have searched everywhere and cannot find anything that is current enough to help me. I have hboot 1.19 and my software version is 2.13.651.1 710RD. I'm unlocked, rooted and also have TWRP recovery and I'm s-on. When I rooted my phone it also gave me SuperSU. I'm super lost now because I can't flash any ROMs to my phone. I've tried the charmeleon ROM and also the tranquility ROM but when TWRP is at the end of the Installing process it says that it failed and that there is no md5 or something like that.

Just disable MD5 check in TWRP, that should fix it. You do want to verify your MD5 matches in something like ES File Explorer. If you don't that will cause many other problems.

Well yes but the Rom will still install without errors. Go to the TeamWin website and download it from there. Grab the zip and rename it and place it on your external sd and boot to bootloader. It will install and then reboot but if you don't have a working Rom remove the sd afterward otherwise you can get stuck in a loop. Do not place it on internal if you don't have a working Rom. The other ways to install would be to use goo manager to install or flash the recovery in fastboot

Alright i'll give this a try, but what zip am i supposed to download and rename? I already have the latest version of TWRP on my phone.
You can check the md5 using a file explorer. Longpress on file and select properties, then compare to where you downloaded the ROM from. If s-on, you'll have to pull the boot.IMG from the ROM zip and fastboot flash from cmd or use flash image GUI app from your phone if you can boot.
Also, I think the disable md5 check in TWRP is under settings.

Internal storage on my phone is fried - can't mount anything. PC doesn't find it. RUU is out of date or would possibly work. I'm using windows 7 and having a very scary ride because the phone won't show up with anything except the SD card - which would be awesome and let me flash the new CM10 - but unfortunately when I go to install it, I get "unable to mount SD card" as a perpetual error message. Even the 3.15 RUU is out of date, also, and though I went through the rooting process and unlocked the device thru HTC's website, I have version 3.16 and the RUU tells me to get the correct RUU and try again. I have to go to work now, if anybody else has been through the special hell I'm trying to deal with please post something, anything, to get my windows able to find my phone, or my drive (internal) to mount to the pc or anything! This looks like a brick (and I've never screwed anything up this bad before )
Boot to twrp and mount storage, then plug into computer. Windows will recognize that it's corrupt and give you the choice to format it.
I still have S-ON. *facepalm*
How can I achieve S-OFF status so that the ROM, which I more or less WAS able to flash using your advice, will be able to quit boot looping and actually work?

I CANNOT SEE HBOOT OR RECOVERY AND I NEED TO BE ABLE TO USE ADB TO ROOT THIS PHONE WITHOUT HAVING TO GET INTO RECOVERY.
THE TOOL IS AWESOME BUT YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY SEE THE RECOVERY ON THE SCREEN TO GET ROOT WITH IT!
Thank you

Maybe your not asking the question correctly. You say you can't see hboot or recovery. Are you trying to get the phone into bootloader? If so pull your battery put backin then hold volume down and power button. This will load into bootloader. If your just attempting to get the phone rooted then yes the tool I posted will root the phone. If your wanting to be able to change some of the permissions then you will need to install superuser. Hopefully this helps. If not maybe someone else can figure out what you are wanting to do......
I cannot see HBOOT or Recovery.
My display is not working correctly for some reason. I have flashed the stock RUU and unlocked the bootloader via the toolkit.
Now I am stuck because I cannot see the recovery screen to actually install the superuser.zip that the toolkit put onto my sdcard.
Do you see what I am saying here?
If I could simply see my HBOOT and recovery screens I would have this phone rooted in 1 minute. I am looking for a way to root manually via adv or another method because I cannot see the recovery screen to know what buttons to click.

I'm no mean an expert here but reading your frustration posts since yesterday, here's my 2 cents, you may want to try it or wait for more suggestion from others
* I've read somewhere that some "Demo" phone came with a "Demo" Rom, which, has no Hboot and Recovery
* Read this post and try to flash an ENG Hboot onto your phone. ENG Hboot for Amaze 4G can be found in the S-Off thread
* After suscessfully flashed ENG HBoot using ADB command, you can then use fastboot to flash back to stock then root normally or using AIO Toolkit again to flash custom Recovery

Ignore this please, since ENG Hboot can only be flash when S-Off'ed. I really have no worthy suggested at this point and sorry for that

There is a tool called Android Flasher (Google it) which you can use to flash Hboot onto your phone. As for the Hboot I think you can pulled it out from Stock RUU using 7Zip. Once you have Hboot on the phone, the rest will be easy. I think maybe your phone was a Demo one, which, unfortunately doesn't come with Hboot and Recovery hence the reason it doesn't "update" Hboot and Recovery when flashing RUU
I have already flashed an RUU which completed successfully. Would this stock RUU still not flash HBOOT on my phone?
I am using the phone to type this.
I can power off and then hold vol down and power and the phone will do flash a red notification light up top. If I press down volume once then power it will reboot but I of course only see a.black screen.

No it wont change it. It can only be changed after s-off. I would try to s-off. Jbear gives the option to flash a different hboot at the end of a successful s-off. Then hopefully you can finally get this thing rolling.
Definately will.
I thought root was a prereq for s off though. I'll be trying it anyways.

It's good to know that you are - at least - still have a Rom on your phone.
I think the reason why you don't have HBoot and recovery when flashing RUU is because what RUU does is just "updating" whatever img that your phone has on it and when it didn't detected Hboot and recovery, it just skipped updating those img. Long story short, I guess you are lacking HBoot and recovery on your phone. We may simply solv this by flashing stock Hboot and recovery onto the phone using tool such as Android Flasher. Again, I'm no expert on this and has never tried this before so take it with a grain of salt and do some research before give it a go, or, you can wait a little longer to get others' opinion. I don't want to be the one who bricked your phone by giving poor advices.
Be patient, at least you have a fully functional phone for now.
I edited this out...
Good luck

Now I totally understand... I think . Never have heard of this happening or have read where someone has lost the bootloader but yet phone still boots. There is the command with Hasoon's Amaze tool that will put your phone in the bootloader screen. If your still not able to view if you have tried this then hopefully someone else might have an answer for you as I have no other ideas to get you into the bootloader screen and making it visable. Good luck!

I already told you how to get root in your other thread using 4ext recovery app.
Also, you don't need to root to flash a different rom.
Just do what i said here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38165221

hboot screen looks like this...
bootloader
reboot
reboot bootloader
power down
the screen starts with the "bootloader" already selected...push volume down
1 time to select reboot
2 times to select reboot bootloader..etc etc...
push power to MAKE/activate the selection.
4ext recovery is touch based and since you cant see you may want to install clockwork mod from the market as you use the volume buttons for this too!
but i dont use it...(but i have! on this phone!! I just dont know how good it works reliable flashing etc)
maybe get a spare sd card and format it so we all know its blank.
then place the right file on the card
so we know its the only file
then you can count the volume clicks to the right choices.
heres hope for you buddy!... my suspicions are as follows.
flashing a different hboot using
the linked hassoons toolkit then CWM then a reboot may return your screen to power on during the times you need it...
BUT BUT BUT!!!!
i do not know if that is advisable or bad or perfectly fine...anyone else know?????

[Q] Semi Bricked HTC Evo 4G LTE, Please help

Hello All,
I rooted my phone a long time ago and went from the stock rooted rom to MeanRom ICS. I then wanted to try other roms. I use TWRP 2.6 and tried everything to install a new rom. A friend suggested that I S-off my phone to see if that would work. I then tried Moonshine to S-off my phone. Now the phone wont boot at all. I can still get in the recovery and bootloader, but that's all I can do.
Here is my info for Bootloader:
Jewel PVT Ship S-on RL
HBOOT 1.19.0000
Radio 1.12.11.0809
OpenDSP v.29.1.0.45.0622
eMMC boot
Thanks in advanced for the help
First things first, welcome to XDA, and congrats on your first post/thread. Too bad that this is the reason for it.
On to more pressing matters...are you sure that you completed ALL of the steps in order? Also, did you happen to read this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321072
I'm assuming that you did, but if you didn't, it will be a good help.

Do you have a backup you can restore from recovery? If so, install your backup to get you up and running again. Otherwise, you can mount USB storage in recovery and copy a ROM from your computer to your phone, then flash the ROM. Remember since you're S-on you'll need to install the kernel separately from the ROM. Most Sense ROM's like MeanBean and Viper have a kernel installer built in; just follow the OP for whatever ROM you wish to install.
Also, you must either use Facepalm or Dirty Racun to gain S-off on your phone. Moonshine only works for those on Hboot 2.09/software version 3.16.
You can find links to Dirty Racun & Facepalm in the link in my sig.

Tried the backup I made a few days ago. No joy. I think that my bootlaoders fragged. When I boot into the bootloader, green text for the bootloader saying theres no PJ75Diag.img, PJ75Diag.nbh, and or PJ75.Diag.zip.
Sorry gang for bugging you guys like this. I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff. Thanks again for the help.

All that green text means is that the bootloader is looking for a PJ75IMG file on your external SD card. There isn't one normally there unless you're updating firmware. It's normal.
What ROM's have you tried to flash?

I load the backup, but the screen goes black after the initial HTC boot screen. I don't know what's going on.
I've tried CM 10.1 Nightly, Ubuntu touch WIP, and a few others. Everything seems to do just fine while installing, and then I reboot to a boot loop or staring at the HTC boot screen for a while.
When I rooted my phone, I went from CM 9 to MeanRom. After I went to MeanRom it acted kind of funky. I've not been successful at loading any new roms after that. I think I forced something that the phone didn't like onto it and now its stuck with it.
Try flashing MeanBean. Make sure you wipe properly before you flash it.

Should I go for the newest one? (3.09 or and older version)
The latest version should be just fine. The rom version doesn't change much aside from the fact that 3.09 has the latest changes and bug fixes.

In addition, make sure you follow Mikey's instructions on flashing the ROM since you're S-on for the time being. His ROM has a kernel installer that requires an extra step to install the kernel separately from the ROM on phones that are S-on.

Use Facepalm. It's Windows friendly. I think Bigdaddy619 or another user even has everything packaged up nice & neat so it's ready to run. I've personally never used it but I hear it's quick & painless. Make sure you Nandroid your current setup before you get started.

Ubuntu is packaged in a live distro, you don't have to install anything.

SuperCID for HTC Evo 4G LTE:
Code:
adb shell
su
echo -ne "22222222" | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=1 seek=20
After you do this start the other commands
Just take your time do one at a time and read what it says in the cmd window
Sorry to bother you guys again, but it says device not found when I enter adb reboot bootloader. Am I doing something wrong? I do beleive I have all the drivers. Sorry for being a pain, still learning about this stuff.
