[Q] Is there a better alternative to the app Folder Organizer? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Folder Organizer is kinda old and I am not crazy about the look. Is there anything better that I am missing in the market for a nice way to display open folders on your home screen?

I'm in exactly the same boat. Very infrequent updates and is slow and cumbersome; unfortunately I haven't found anything which can replace it yet. Ideas?

Me too, I'm interested to find a real alternative to Folder Organizer but does not exist.
Now it has a poor maintenance and a null support. Also it hasn't a good icon-packs integration. You can use them only with labels. If you want use them with all shortcuts you need use UniIcon xposed module.
The best alternative to Folder Organizer it would be give regular updates as every good Android app.

Hide media?

Hopefully i am missing something simple! How do i stop all my pics and videos from being indexed and revealed via albums? I have made several sub folders in new directories on mem card, but it still gets indexed?
I suppose if there is not a simple control to stop index then is there a good app for password protecting a folder?

I've searched for something like this too, but can't find any way do hide stuff from the album.
Found Photo Vault and Video Vault on market place, only allows 5 files in trial mode, cheap to buy license though. Hides from album, and Linda file manager - seems to work, open the app to view all the files you have hidden.
you can stop it simple by putting a file name .nomedia in the directory.
But then it will not popup in any media application anymore.
hope thats what you were looking for.

Looking for Custom Quotes Widget

I'm looking for a very simple app. It allows me to go in and add quotes, I have an extensive txt file of my favorite quotes. The ones I find inspirational or motivational or thought-provoking etc. I want to populate the widget with that.
Every app I found was populated from other sites based on category, etc.
Anyone know where I can find it?
Alternatively a widget which pulls from a url and displays the returned text (I'm a web developer and haven't learned android dev. yet.)
Cheers
this probably won't meet all your needs but give it a go. http://www.appbrain.com/app/23-000-great-quotes/com.cramzy.quotes

Any eReader apps that can default to a category/tag view?

So I'm looking for an eReader Android app that can open up to a default of a Category/Tag/Whatever View where it can present the different sections to look at. I know there are tons of them out there that support tags/categories but I haven't found any where the home page can be a list of those tags. Does anyone know of anything like this?
I want this so that when my kids turn on our tablet, they can launch the app and then get into the Kid's Books area with 1 tap and not have to figure out how to navigate through menus and things like that.
Also, if the app could be set to look in a certain folder and automatically scan that folder for new books every time you open the app, that'd be awesome as well.
Thanks.

[APP] BrowserShortcut - Use the browser key to open any browser

Hi everyone!
For those of you who want to give some extra behaviour to the browser key on the dock, here's one solution.
Although mod Aroma "kind of" does this, it should be noted that this solution is easier to recover from.
The browser key launchs any apk with ˋcom.android.browser.BrowserActivity´ as main activity, so I made a small app that mimics that.
It gathers a list of installed browsers and prompts a choice to the user; With the help of intents.
You can build it directly within the prime using AIDE, as it was coded in it.
GitHub repository: github.com/bit2shift/BrowserShortcut
In order to install it, you first need to remove the stock browser. Use Titanium Backup or ES File Explorer.
Install the replacement app as usually.
A screenshot of its choice prompt is attached.
EDIT: The google homepage is the URL used to query the installed browsers and start the chosen one. You can change it to something else.
TIP: For some browsers, about:blank does not get recognized properly.
Moderators: If this thread fits better on the development board, feel free to move it there.

Many of your linked apps, unfortunately, are not in active development.
Lightweight apps are preferred because they indicate efficient coding, and also unlikely to bundle unwanted stuff.
I love simple and minimalist apps, but if they are too basic, I would look elsewhere.

Best Android Apps...
The list presented here is a collection of excellent apps (at the time of writing this) that excel in what they do (and supposed to do). They may or may not fit into the requirements of everyone perfectly. So choose whatever works best for you...

Karma Firewall is a fav about 5.1 mb.

Some apps can be very compact, others not.
ApkExport is about 313 kg and it's sublime.
Karma Firewall is a fav about 5.1 mb. Uses almost no battery.
PDMDM package disabler is at 5.86 mb and without it this 10+ be unusable.
Poweramp is weighing in at a hefty 60 mb.
It's versatility, configurability, playlists, audio processing capabilities and ease of backup/restore blow me away. I continue to find new, useful features and it's rock solid stable.
All time favorite HD music player.
Sometimes you need to trade off size for functionality/availability.
Could Poweramp be smaller? No doubt but nothing else comes close to it and it isn't a bad behaving apk with relatively low battery usage.
@blackhawk
Thanks for the apps can you please give their play store links.
Also APK export I found on https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ses.app.apkexport does not have Split APKs support.
I can't find the PDMDM.
Thanks

What is special about APK Export? It isn't under active development. Plus what it says it can do, is something most file managers can also do.
Check Alpha Backup Pro.
It was buggy on Android 11 the last time I tried, but the app has received several updates since then.

When it comes to Playlists, nothing beats PlayerPro! This app also keeps a backup of your system playlists, so in case they go missing/ corrupt, they will be safely (automatically) restored.

ApkExport saves copies of all my apks. I've done a reload using all saved apps by it and no Playstore. It works every time for me.
Split apks you mean like the Good Lock family or MiX? Saves them too.
Zero ads, complete freeware... good as it gets.
APK Export (Backup & Share) - Apps on Google Play
Manage and extract your apps.

It's hard to find PD MDM sometimes; Google search deliberately screws with it.
Home - Package Disabler
The only NON-root solution that let’s you disable any unwanted packages that come pre-installed / installed with your phone / tablet.

Split APKs are apps which came with multiple APKs for example install this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ng_labs.agecalculator and extract the apk, uninstall the app and try install from apk. You can't.

Interesting, that's the same issue I had with other similar export apks until this one.
Not sure but I have 72 user apks backed up that successfully restored on the last reload. I'm running on Pie. It could be more Q crap or a misconfiguration.
On my SD card I simply punch the apk and it loads.

Where does this app show that info (like which app is part of a bundle)?
I don't backup using this, so not sure.
I use AppChecker which displays app info neatly, with a mark on those that are part of a bundle.
Also, will APKs (which are part of a bundle) extracted using the usual method with a file manager surely NOT be restored unless the whole bundle is backed up?

Yes. We have to use the app I have given to backup and install those.
