Firmware update and CID backup - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hello everyone ....
I'm very new to razr.......
im on android 4.0.4 ( 673.94.324.xt910.mMERetail.en.06 )
so my questions are ...
1. can i update to official jelly bean.... ( i did go through this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231289 , but i needa to be sure wht ver. do i use )
2. after read many threads i knw that CID is very unique , so before any thing i need to backup my CID... so how can i do it....
( my phone is not rooted yet, )
pls help me....
thank you...

Try to search for official update files and then update to jb I wouldn't recommend using that thread. This is my personal opinion and not against anybody on their work.
Download rsd lite 6 and find fastboot files of jb version for your phone depend on the region it is from and then flash and enjoy jb ics no-good.

Yes,you can, look at the last page of that thread, one guy succesfully flashed JB UK Fastboot package and he was on the same firmware as yours.
I think that you don´t have to backup your Cid but you better do,so,first you must root your phone, then download BMM and backup your Cid with him.
Or,download Terminal Emulator,open it,type su,and then type dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p18 of=/sdcard/cid.img.
Always make more copies of your Cid on your SD card,SD card-ext,in your computer...
Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155576 are some video tutorials that can help you a little bit

Fix Razr Latam ICS stuck on Fastboot ( its not a downgrade to 2.3.5, 2.3.6, 4.0.3 )

Hello,
This is for every one with a Latam phone who tried to downgrade and get stucked on Fastboot. and for some who was on the Chinese ics and Flashing to Latam is not working since no Fastboot ICS Latam
After working on it for 2 hours
i was able to find a solution and i tried it on many phones to make sure it wasnt just question of chance.
Step1:
download the Fastboot that i modified ( its a mix with Retail.Br.en 2.3.6 and Retail.Br.en ICS 4.0.4 + some modification in the XML file )
Flash it with RSD Lite as usual
Step2:
Put the update file in the ext-sd card
Step3:
When finished flashing go in Recover mode by pressing the key combination of Power button + volume up + volume down button together at once. You will see the recovery screen ( ! ) just press the volume up + volume down
Step4:
scroll to " apply update from external storage " and select the needed file
"blur_version.651.167.3370.xt910.brasil.en.br.zip" this update will JUST fix the missed file , keep the updated ( since its a mix ) and delete the un needed file ( as usual )
Reboot
and your phone shld be working
Modified fastboot:
Latam_Retail_BR_2.3.6_mixed_with_Retail_BR_4.0.4_and_xml_modified
ICS 4.0.4 update Br.en
blur_version.651.167.3370.xt910.brasil.en.br
P.S its works only for Latam.
I'm not responsable if you brick your phone ( its not a downgrade to 2.3.5, 2.3.6, 4.0.3 )
Please if it works for you or no try to put me up to date

No, once on ICS there's no going back to GB... At least not right now... This is to repair a botched ICS upgrade on a LATAM device... I guess by changing the corresponding files in the script, it could be used for other regions...

Yes I alredy did that but still the same problem no advance stuck in the motorola logo with no answer.
Ok. Factory reset + clean cache + redo the rsdlite ( better to unzip the file and take the xml ) let it reboot by it selft it will download by itself à recovery. Than go back to recovery and update with thé update zip file. Dont change the name of the file ( some time changing names can affect and better that u do a new download on the dont use the same ) also some times it happens during download some data will be missed )
Sorry maybe in repeating ehat u did but this is the only way

Suggestion for latinoguy
latinoguy, there's a new ICS version for our phones. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696459 and start in the EXTRA! section...
Maybe this will fix your problem and you'll end with the updated ICS.
Good luck!

I have unlocked my bootloader following the official method. And now I want to root my device but somehow I can't get it done.
I've tried several methods icluding DoomLoRD. But nothing works.
Can somebody explain to me what i need to do?
Is there a way to make a complete backup of my device without having root? before I try rooting?

I also had some problems with unlocking the bootloader (on windows 7 64bit) at first, but after i turned of my antivirus everything worked just fine.
Even I have windows 7 64bit and I don't think there's any issue whatsoever!

"How To Root 4.0.3
Just follow the instructions here Root
now this link goes to a thread, that says do it with doom lord: which is a pain !
should i go for the flashtool process instead, but that mentions the FW 4.0.4, where as i have the stock 4.0.3 ?
Plz Help !
Flashtool can't root ics fw's.
And if doomlord's toolkit is hard for you, then don't mess with your phone at all
How can it be hard, you set 2,3options and connect phone to pc, toolkit does all the job..

For start chill your horses.
I have eyes and I can read, so no need to copy/paste what has been written in this thread.
Second, I know why doomlord's root toolkit failed for OP. doomlords toolkit CAN root .562(also known as 4..0.3) but CAN'T root .431(4.0.4) fw, which is what flashing .562 kernel is needed in order to root.
I know the procedure, I wrote the tutorial(which I linked in post#4), after which guys from talk.sonymobile wrote it on their forum, just FYI.

If you are on 4.0.3, doomlord CAN root your phone, if it can't, you are doing something wrong, in which case, we need to see log of that root process.
Flashtool is only used to flash 4.0.3 kernel, but that's for people on 4.0.4.

He failed with doomlord root toolkit because he had 4.0.4! He needed to flash kernel from 4.0.3, then use toolkit then flash back kernel from 4.0.4

if doomlord's root toolkit FOR ICS, failed for you, provide log of that process.
Now I tell you another thing, which you would know if you read all post in this thread, specially link I gave above, you have unlocked your bootloader, ffs, you can root without any mess with root toolkits, simply flash/hotboot kernel with CWM and flash superuser zip. And enjoy your phone.
Tutorial on talk.sonymobile doesn't have part for unlocked bootloaders, that's why I linked my tutorial which have both parts.
He failed with doomlord root toolkit because he had 4.0.4! He needed to flash kernel from 4.0.3, then use toolkit then flash back kernel from 4.0.4
if doomlord's root toolkit FOR ICS, failed for you, provide log of that process.
U are rite 4.0.3 is workable in doomslord but only on this doomslord toolkit for xperia "DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su"
it has pushed the SU properly nd installed it ! later i have downloaded CWM 5, so i 1st took Astro File Manager from the Market, for exploring the SD then installed the CWM 5, so when i did the SU asked to get the permission nd then all the options in CWM are ticked well and Su got CWM in its list, so all good and rooted, now please refer me the app that can solve the brightness issue in Neo V :good:
Thanx & Regards
now that i have rooted & all ! how will i go to fw .431 means 4.0.4 ? and if i flash 4.04 will my phone still be rooted ?
If u know a process of how to root in 4.0.4 nd can install su in it plz tell ! nd plz clarify me that CWM is necessary to have it 1st installed on the device or SU ?
Lets suppose ill clear the picture ... if i want to flash 4.0.4 with Kernal .431 my phone is open to root, but as u know the doomlords kit failed ! is there any otherway to push SU as a zip like ur mentioning that flash it with hotboot wats that how the process is going to be ?
Plz help !

[Q] HELP from Asia.Retail.ICS to Eu.Retail.JB

hi guys,
in january i bought the razr maxx in hong kong, and i updated the os to 4.0.4 and i rooted it .
now my phone is 673.94.328.XT910.AsiaRetail.en.03
and it seems that motorola will not update asia retail to JB so i would to update the phone by myself.
i have read a lot about that but still i dont understand what is the best way to do that.
can i just upload the new row (RETAIL BR JB ?) with RDS lite from :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231289
if yes what i have to do before?
i read about of a sort of compatibility between asia and eu retail that save some steps.
or i have to upload a Retail EU ICS and than use the OTA update ?
i'm a bit confused about the best way to do.
i understood that i have to protect the root with RootKeeper.
i read the update with :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277008
but that is a leak i dont know if it's the same.
and updating the os will i loose all the data ? can i use nandroid or something else to
backup the phone ?
tnx a lot and i hope that your answers will be helpful for other razr newbies like me
Look out into http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231289 and download last fastboot names retail British and flash it via rsd lite
Now ya do not have to protect ya root because root method is available to root ya phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257137
Edit : flashing fastboot only enough and do not flash any updates or else
I know what is going on in ya mind so before asking i wanna say yeah ya can flash British retail firmware on Asian xt910 without any problem
Thanks!!
Please hit the thanks button if i helped ya in anyways !!!
tnx for the answer ... very clear ...
can i ask just about the backup ? will i loose the data ? titanium or nandroid ?
and what about the staff in the bottom of the page, what do i have to do with this stuff:
How to request for a firmware:
Submit the following files (using adb pull):
/system/default.prop
/system/build.prop
MSU.txt of Motorola Software Update (You only need the version of Flex)
Configuration > About phone > Screenshot
NOTE: I only MIGHT find that firmware or newer version of it.
Click to collapse
tnx a lot
very kind
Yes ya will loose all ya data ( not ya external SD card data but it will wipe all data of ya internal storage so be careful make a back up before flashing )
That is for requesting to make fastboot if its not available .
What all ya need to do is just download British retail and flash without worry and then root if ya want .
Edit : Nandroid and titanium backup wont work once ya update to jellybean so better ya make a back up of all ya apps so ya can install it back without any issues
Thanks!!
Please hit the thanks button if i helped ya in anyways !!!
tnx a lot
i totally appreciated ur help
Once ya successfully updated to jb let me know
Thanks!!
Please hit the thanks button if i helped ya in anyways !!!
