Is that even an option with Verizon? As far as I knew they didn't sell any unlocked devices nor did they allow them to be connected to their network, but I could be wrong.
Anyway, I'd personally go for the Moto X or LG G2. But if you're feeling risky, wait until the release of the Nexus 5 and see if Verizon decides to carry it or not. Google and Verizon have had a tumultuous relationship over the past years, to say the least.
I'm leaving Verizon for T-Mobile and an unlocked Nexus 5 in January. I'm liking what I'm seeing out of T-Mobile and what the future holds for them as they continue to rapidly expand their 4G LTE network. Plus $70/mo for unlimited talk/text/data is unbeatable.

They just announced developer editions of both the moto x and droid maxx today, so things are looking up. The g2 was where I was leaning until I started to see how some of the Dev community was receiving it. I was hoping to get something with top specs AND Dev support too.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 4

The G2 is what I was looking at. The specs are amazing. But I really like Moto. So I was looking at X and the Maxx.
Trying to do everything I can to keep my unlimited. I might jump to T-Mobile.
Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk 4

I like the specs and look for the Sony xperia Z1, 1 meter water resistance and shock proof could come in handy..
My brother has a moto atrix HD, pretty nice phone and unlocked.

Don't have but I've moved to a s4 and loving it. . So fast like lightning lol.. But flimsy but a decent case does the trick

Should I switch to the Droid razr?

I got the galaxy nexus, but I cannot stand the signal issues. I can't use my phone at work while my coworkers laugh at me with full bars and data connection. So I have compared the Droid to my nexus and it does have significantly better reception. So is the Droid razr worth switching from the galaxy nexus?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I changed from a SGS2 to a RAZR for the same reason. Far better reception and call quality. You won't regret it.
Quadrant scores mean SFA when you can't actually use it for a phone call - which is why we buy them!

It doesn't have a locked tegra that Motorola won't realese the source code for right? Had the Motorola atrix and it had that issue so not much roms on there.

also how's the development activity around here? Getting better or on a stand still?

There is quite a handful of roms over at droidrzr.com... they have a lot of exclusive content for us RAZR owners

Never seen a or owned a android phone with out removable battery. How does it work out? What if your stuck in bootloop or something what do you do.
Sent from my HTC Evo 3D using XDA App
I am also interested how a phone that doesn't have a removable battery works out
No batter has been no problem. Hold down the vol up and power for 8 seconds and it does the same as pulling the battery. There have been 2 new ROMs added for the CDMA version in the last week over at droidrzr.com and both rock.

The nexus felt cheap to me. ICS is coming to the razr soon enough, besides id rather they work all the bugs out before pushing it to the razr. As you stated the signal strength is a problem with the nexus. Also no usb mass storage and no sd card slot factored into my decision. The hardware is basically the same. Also i might be a little bias towards Motorola as every Motorola device ive owned has been top notch.
I am sure many will disagree with me, but I preferred the razr over the nexus.

I totally agree with you. Motorola makes some solid phomes. I owned the atrix 4g and I loved it. The last Samsung phone I had was the captivate and it was one horrible esperience. Yellow screens, poor battery life, GPS broken, and many more. The nexus does feel cheap but sits nicely in my hand I can type with one hand with is a big plus. While I tried holding the razor and it felt akward in the hand. I also seen that the phone is too skiny wide to type with one hand. Well we'll see. I'm waiting on the maxxx gonna check it out and make my final decision. Thank you guys for all the answers. Really helped me out.

I had a Gnex but returned last week. I loved owning an unlocked device (and playing with various roms), but the poor phone radio and battery life killed me. Jumping on the RazrMaxx on Thursday.
It's a real shame about the Razr. I do really like Motorola devices, but without a unlockable bootloader I just can't purchase it. ICS on my Nexus S has spoiled me.
My RAZR has had great battery life...much better than my wife's iPhone 4. I like the Verizon network so unlocking isn't a concern here. I agree the thinness of the phone was awkward but I put an otter box on anything over 199.00 lol But I can't say I would switch if i already had either the Nexus or RAZR. Too much of a hassle. Hope you enjoy whatever you choose.

Ditched My RAZR

Tired of waiting for ICS and succumbed to Samsung's new offering, I sold my RAZR and bought a Galaxy S III.
No more a disgruntled user. I am a happy user now
I'll be back when RAZR HD is released as a world phone equipped with MAXX battery, until then farewell!
Then when jellybean is released you will be disgruntled again lol
Unhappy user is unhappy.
Too bad unhappy user will never be happy (there's always something better than what he has).
I wont buy mot again, unless they unlock the bootloader.

In some way i understand and even envy you. GSIII is far more superior than RAZR, with hardware and software.
Software update from samsung? And who need it today, if there is large XDA movement. New roms, roots method, great camera mod from yesterday. If samsung does not provide JB for gs3, developers form here will do it!
And what we have? Nice, slim (only original razr) phone with locked bootloader and webdock app, that 97% of users do not use because absence of dock.
Motorola will forget about this phone when 4.0.4 will be aired (someday, if they don't forget), and there is no visible chances for unlocked bootloader, although motorola promised this (i bet there is a inside joke about this in their company).
I am afraid, that motorola can jump with something stupid, after release of the RAZR HD.

Anybody thinking of getting the Note 2 or Maxx HD?

Is anybody thinking of making the switch from their current RAZR/RAZR Maxx?
I don't even see why they made the RAZR HD, it only makes sense to get the Maxx HD in my opinion.
Much as I love the improvements on the new RAZR phones I don't know if the changes are significant enough for me to change phones.
The Galaxy Note 2 looks like a beast, only thing for me is that I don't know how comfortable it will be in my pocket. I've held the first NOTE, although it is huge I can still hold it and use it decent. Just carrying it around seems like a hassle.
I have an AT&T upgrade sitting there and am eyeing the Note 2...but my GSM MAXX + Nexus 7 works fine as-is. Also, the Lumia 920 looks interesting.
Whatever gets my upgrade will be the best possible device out there. We shall see.
Going to look at buying the galaxy note 2, unless rumors start to drop about a nexus device from moto/google.that has as good as specs as gn2.

I am hoping we'll see the next Google phone made by more than one manufacturer. I would definitely look at the Motorola one if the specs were right.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Verizon didn't get the next google phone since big red is totally against development and locking boot loaders. Android is Open Source, it's suppose to be developed on!! Now Verizon needs to approve android updates too? That's bull crap.
I have been in love with the note ever since it was announced.
This Motorola has the best reception and GPS of any phone I have had though so the new RAZR hd maxx is in the running too.
I exercise with my phone so something too big might not work that well.
I don't think a computer would be necessary after the note though.

If it's because of the locked boot loaders, Verizon is locking down Samsung phone's too. Probably all their Android phones now. For me, Motorola has it's pros and cons. I mainly chose my Maxx for the wireless radio and battery life. But I do miss the Samsung camera on the last phone I had. And Samsung software is smoother too.

I still have hope for a US Butterfly S. HTC would be an idiot of a company not to release it to a US market. The question is, will it come to Verizon? The DNA wasn't much of a success on Verizon (but the J Butterfly was over in Japan was), so they might aim for a GSM carrier. OR it may come to sprint as the HTC Evo Butterfly.
Also, I kind of understand Verizon's decision to make the Droid line Motorola-only. The non-Moto Droids have never done well. Read: Droid Charge, and (dare I say it) DNA. The Moto Droids have almost always been top-selling devices. Like the original Droid and its sequels, The RAZR line, specifically the original Droid RAZR Maxx, and the Mini/Maxx/Ultra will likely follow that path.
BTW: I'm stuck with my DNA (and i'm perfectly fine with that) for the next year and a half, so absolutely none of this will affect me until my contract ends in Jan 2015. I personally couldn't care less what happens with the whole Butterfly S/DNA 2 situation, but I understand some of you like to replace your device more frequently (which is perfectly fine) so I'm just adding my $0.02 to anyone who may be interested.

Who cares, the new phones don't have much wow factor to make me think the DNA is missing something or is being left behind. And looking at the development, the DNA has a good number of roms and kernels so I don't feel like it is under developed.
The DNA will be running strong for at least three years.
What I don't understand is... We have a 5 Inch, 1080P, Quad Core Android cell phone.. Nobody seems to care? We do!! But it's always about the HTC One, whatever Motorola is coming out with.. and Nokia Windows 8 phones..the next Nexus.. What is Samsung doing?? We have an absolute monster phone that I love yet there was almost ZERO hype behind it.. launched, then .. "Hey, I'm still here, I'm free now" .... Unless I missed something in my zombie like state of mind lately.. People ask what phone I have, then I tell them.. and I hear crickets.. People have no idea about this beast!!
See if people are wowed when you tell them you have the new Droid Ultra with a whopping 5 inch screen, powerful 1.7 dual core processor, and an unprecedented 2 gb ram plus the usually lousy Moto camera.

Completely agree with you. I firmly believe that the Droid DNA/J Butterfly/DLX is the second most innovative device of the modern mobile technology world. Second only to the Ubuntu Edge. I think the mistake was making this beast a Verizon exclusive. If they had endorsed the DNA the way they did with the One, or how Samsung has done since the Galaxy S2, they could easily blow the SGS4 and Xperia Z out of the water. Don't get me wrong, the One, S4 and XPZ are all great devices, but the DNA could easily rank right up there with them if HTC had really tried. And that's not even mentioning the Butterfly S. Bringing it to the states and endorsing it on all major carriers could set HTC for eternity. It takes the overall greatness of our DNAs and gives it all the things we love about the One (like boomsound). It's pretty much the ultimate smartphone IMO. HTC needs to play smart in the future, or they'll crash and burn. Hopefully the One's success will teach them this.

Good evening all. My contract is up with AT&T & I am now pondering all the choices of new phones to upgrade to. I have found 3 possible phones. What do you all think? I don't want to wait 3 months either for the next new phone to come out.
MOTO X: Nice specs but lack of root & devs. Locked bootloader
SGS4: MF3 update cripples ROM support but there is at least root.
LG Optimus G: Unknown to me but there is root & ROMs here.
Notable 4th option: iPhone 5, a phone that just works, may cure my ROM flashing habits.

Read reviews on each by pocketnow. That's how I decide.

I just saw the Moto X vs. SGS4 video. Now I may wait for the Developer Edition Moto X!

I would suggest reading reviews and getting hands on time if possible. Everyone's needs in a phone differ. Of the choices you have I'd probably go with the moto x if root and ROMs pick up. Personally, I'm going nexus from here on out.

The Nexus 4 has a great price of $199.00 unlocked but lack of 4G LTE kept me away!

IMO, HSPA is just fine. Where are you seeing the Nexus 4 for $199?
