Hi,
I'm owning a Samsung GT-I9000 Galaxy S3. Having it for about 3 months now.
Every night my phone's always charger. But I've had several times a strange problem that my phone charged only a little bit. Or even did not charge at all. I've seen a lot of problems on the internet of S3 users that are having battery issues, but on this particular problem I couldn't find an answer.
In the attachments two screenshots of the battery usage when I had this charging problem at night. Does anyone have any idea what I have to do next to avoid this problem? Already changed the charger from Samsung for an HTC, because i read that those Samsung adapters are really crappy. But not tried another cable. Could the cable be the problem?
Thanks in advance!
Koen
You have already worked out the next step, why not do it before asking? Hundreds of similar posts if you search.
If you are on a fully stock rom then the likely causes, in order are charger, lead, battery, charging IC inside phone. Try the first three then sent for repair.

Hi all;
I posted this in another thread but there was no reply there, maybe since it was the accessories forum the wrong people are looking at it? Anyway, this issue is different from the thread in which I replied, so I'll just make this it's own discussion.
Basically, my problem is that when I plug my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in to the wall with the out-of-the-box Samsung charger, the device charges at a rate of about 3-5% per hour. This is way slower than it was charging about a week ago, but one day, this started happening. A couple things to note are that the "battery" screen in settings shows the device is discharging even though it's plugged in. There is, however, no red "X" over the battery symbol. The cord for the charger is a bit frayed on the end that goes into the device, but this was not causing any issue before. Could the cord be the problem, or is this an issue with my device? Any suggestions, advice, and/or info are greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: I connected the tablet to the Samsung keyboard dock and it now charges without issue. Same cord, same block, but when connected to the dock, the battery screen shows it is "Charging (AC)" instead of "Discharging" and it charges way faster. This has me thinking it was a software issue...could rooting the device to wipe battery data be the most likely permanent solution?
I have a problem with my three year old Samsung S2 (international version), running Android 2.3.
The phone sometimes does not charge at all when I connect the charging cable, at other times I have to turn off the phone before it will charge, and most of the time it will not swtich off when I try to power it down (it simply reboots). Basically, the charging is sporadic and unreliable.
Does anyone have any idea what causes this behaviour?
I have tried two batteries and two charging cables and these make no difference to the problem.
Thanks in anticipation.
Thats interesting. I have alot of problems with charging my S2 as well. Ive shipped it off to samsung twice, they replaced the bad hub/port or whatever the call it, have gone through 4 micro usb cables and i have another battery in the mail headed my way as we speak. A month later and its still doing exactly what you describe. I can barely charge mine anymore. Its only a year old but its No longer reliable. I cant seem to fix the problem so Im giving up on mine and getting myself a nexus 4.

Hi,
My Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300) is just more than 1 month old. Due to the really bad multitasking abilities of the stock TouchWiz (On such an expensive phone, I couldn't browse and play music at the same time) I got really frustrated.
I rooted and flashed the ROM twice. Tried and tested two ROMs. Didn't quite like em. Came back to stock ROM.
Now I'm on stock ROM and still rooted. The charging time of my S3 was always very long and in my last charging attempt it has taken more than 9 hours to completely charge. I've done a factory restore already.
I've checked the charger through battery widgets and the charger is detected as an "AC Charger". I'm not sure if those battery calibrating software work. I don't think the charger is at fault.
I really need a fix for this charging issue. It's really sad that a brand new phone is acting like this.
Will be very thankful for all the help.

Okay, the new cable worked. However even it has shown the same problem once. The thing with my phone is it doesn't charge at the same speed every time. I can't be assured that after connecting the charger at night, I'll get a full charge in the morning. Sometimes the charger works well. Sometimes it does not.
You may have a faulty charging port or wall charger if you have already changed the cable...
Why not download the Galaxy Charging Current app and see if your SIII is charging at 1000mA using wall charger?
Galaxy Charging Current
My original samsung charge cable developed problems after 8 months (it started only charging at between 300mA to 800mA; changes after you plug in and plug out the cable to the SIII)
The wall charger is still ok as I get 1000mA again after replacing the cable with a Capdase cable.
The S3 has built in stability detection for USB charging. If it determines the connection is unstable, it restricts charge. Usually a simple cable swap resolves but as mentioned above, the port could be faulty.
If you're rooted try a kernel such as Devil or Perseus which can have stability detection ignored.
Hi XDA,
My Galaxy S3 stopped charging properly a couple of days ago. In a matter of hours it froze and charged a bit slower, then it wouldn't charge anymore. When the phone is off and I plug in the charger, the animation starts for about 1 - 2 seconds, and then the screen goes black. If it's on, nothing happens when i plug the charger in and out.
I've owned the phone for a year, and I rooted about 3 weeks ago, and installed CM10.1 (Nightly). It worked fine until this problem.
I've troubleshooted a bit on my own, and what I've found out is that, it can't be the battery that's the problem, because I've tried three different ones, and the problem stays the same. It can't be the USB port on the phone, since I can get it to work in Download mode (ODIN mode). I've also tried CM9 and flashing back to stock android. I've also tried charging it from the wall and the computer, and used different cables. Nothing has done any better.
I'm guessing it's software related, I just can't figure out how to fix it.
Thanks in advance,
Zhibbhi
the charging port of the phone might be faulty.

By charging port I would suggest the charging circuit inside the phone is faulty, as it sounds like you've eliminated all the other possibilities. Return the phone to fully stock for warranty repair.
So even if I can access the phone through ODIN, the charging circuit can be faulty?
I just thought it was a strange coincident that it went faulty a just a couple of weeks after I installed CM10.1

Odin has nothing to do with the charging circuit .
Solutions .
One the battery try another
Two the charger try another >> charge phone from PC usb .
Three the cable try another
Four the USB port on the phone >>> clean
Five the onboard charging circuit >>> needs a service centre .
Six and highly unlikely a firmware problem wipe phone flash stock rom .

Ok, thanks a ton guys! I'm going to set the phone back to stock, and send it in for warranty repair as I've tried everything else.

In the future, avoid using S3's stock charging cable. I changed mine to one I bought off eBay and had no probs since then. I had several frequent problems like slow charging/no charging etc.

Best avoid using the phone to charge the battery at all, that way you don't stress the phone components with wake lock and heat. Buy a £6 desk charger and spare battery, replacing these is much cheaper than the phone motherboard.
Solved
I have an S3 and lately it has taken longer to charge and it was charging to less percentage. I tried 2 different chargers and 3 different cables with the same outcome. I was thinking about one of the threads I had read and they mentioned going to the cell store and it charged for them. I've read about it being the charge circuit on the main board and various other problems and solutions that didn't work. I went to Staples today and purchased a SCOSCHE reVOLT line h1 2.1 amp quick charge and in less than an hour I charged from 63% to the 100% I haven't seen in quite a while. The Samsung OEM charger it seems (as well as the other one I tried) had lost some of it's get up and go. It is working fine now and with this charger it doesn't take long at all to reach full charge. I've put a lot of time into customizing this phone after root and would have been VERY disappointed if I had to start over with a new one. I'd be willing to bet at least 90% of the charging problems people are posting about are caused by the charger deteriorating over time.

Hello all,
Recently I got a problem with my phone. A couple of weeks ago it started displaying charging slowly when connecting it to the power supply. In these cases charging takes hours to charge the phone completely, approximately 5 hours. Few times it says charging fast, and then it charges in about 2 hours. At the beginning I got the impression that it has something to do with the angle I plug in the cable, but it's mainly random.
Now I'm a bit afraid the phone is broken. I've already tested different power supplies, even the original one but it didn't change a thing.
I also tried using cm13 and the current oxygen, no difference in behavior. I even installed a different kernel, without success.
Do you have any idea what's causing the problem or if there's anything I could try?
Thank you!
@StarFishes82 maybe there's some lint or crud stuck up in the port. Use a toothpick and gently sweep inside.

I have experienced that different cables have different charging rate. I only can recommend to use the original cable or some better quality one which can handle 2A, but I assume you are using the original.
I can feel that since I am experiencing same problem. My phone is not detected on computers too. It isn't detecting on my Mac. tried on Windows machine too and unrecognised/Corrupted device connected message popped up. For now, I have flashed Boeffla Kernel (OxygenOS 2.2.0-X) and using its app(Boeffla-Config V2) to increase charge rate(Not recommended, phone heats a lot if you charge and use phone same time). My phone is charging in expected time but this is not permanent solution for this problem. I am taking my device to service center this weekend and recommending you same. Hope they cover this issue in warranty.
Just wanted to give some feedback.
I tried everything mentioned above, without solving the issue. The physical port is clean, I tried different cables, finally I contacted the support. I have to send them the phone and they are gonna repair it. So bad luck because I have to find a temp phone...
Hello Dear,
I have encountered the same problem as you today, but my phone is Sony Xperia Z2
Same problem exactly.
Charging Slowly (5 hours until full)!
What to do? Is there any fast workaround? I'm afraid the warranty is gone, can I fix it in any store?
