I have a wild thinking, could this be possible? Z ultra and z1 are not that much different, I'm sure we can get all benefit of z1, any development done there can be use in z ultra right? Correct me if I'm wrong

It's technically the same device, just with a larger screen and worse camera.
Well, the development for this phone kind of slow, i remember when i use samsung s2, so much development and i keep changing rom, if not that much people use this phone, i hope any development in Z1 will benefit us

Yup, you're right. They use the same internals, so it should be possible to cross-develop between these two devices, much like what's being done with the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note (same internals, only the Note has a bigger screen).

Soon we will get more rom's/themes
Oh yea remember Z1 is better cuz the camera (and smaller screen providing little bit more FPS )
Stay tuned.

Hello everyone.
I'm going to buy a Xperia phone.
I want to buy one between Xperia Go, Xperia Sola and Xperia P. I might think I'd choose between Xperia Go and Xperia Sola (As Xperia P ain't got any SD Card support)
I'm a total newbie. So please, experts, help me choose a phone! Thanks
if you are here i suppose you like rooting your phone, use custom roms, mods, etc so the first you need is a phone with unlockable bootloader.
You can view phone specs on www.gsmarena.com and their differences to chose one, but Xperia Go seems like doesn't have support here yet
Good luck!

unfortunately my Xperia S can't be unlocked and haven't carrier restriction (there's no carriers restrictions in my country), just it's "not allowed" to unlock.

Get the Xperia Go. Floating touch is useless compares to Water proof and anti scratch.
Get the P. Better camera, more ram, bigger screen, sexy design..hdmi out
To me phone memory is for basic item. Other than that there's usb2go

Get P. The unibody is just awesome, and the phone is the sexiest.
Plus, it got 16 gigs internal, which should be more than enough.
You'd never regret buying it

My vote is for P too. If you do not need dust and water resistance then the more RAM a phone has the better.
Maybe you might want to wait for the Xperia J, it may be the killer phone for you. Large screen, decent resolution, micro SD slot... it's less powerful than the sola and the P though.
XUTT
Can't really have a single core device in a post ICS world
Its akin running Windows vista on an atom powered netbook..

Better to go with xperia p at minimal. 1gb of ram will improve the phone capabilities considerably.

Why not choosing a galaxy nexus? Its getting cheaper now and so many devs there. And you wont get dissapointed with long term support of update from Google.

Or if you like me, Razr Maxx is not such a bad deal either
About Nexus Phone, i understand that there are peoples who likes pure Android experience. But it is truly for enthusiasts who are willing to add any feature by himself. For casual user though, if you already have satisfying experience with some maker's interface/functionality (Small Apps or Smart Action), the Nexus is lacking though.. But that's just my opinion..

Yeah agree, but I need a phone under 250 Euros. And by the way I'm an extreme fan of pure Android/ pure AOSP roms, but I love Sony phones and every stuff. I've got sony PlayStations, TV, media player, Radio, Hifi etc. . I would choose Galaxy nexus if it would be cheaper than 250 EUR. Any recommendations under 250.-EUR?
I've also been looking for a replacement for my Ray and I've found some interesting chinese devices ( not copies ) that look extremely good and with great prices...only bad thing is that their development section is almost inexistent...
Yo dawgs, thanks for everything, the help, good luck to all the awesome developers for Ray, glad 2 see the community growing, people helpin people, Sadly I can't take part of it anymore. bought a red Sola.

Sola was a good choice in my opinion, just don't do the same mistake that you did with the ray.
the only phone that is actually an upgrade its the xperia SX... same look, better perfomance, better screen, same size..
MM but our single core is almost the same perfomance of st Ericsson dual core chips.

Sadly I can't keep it, it's a pain that I could never try Android 4.2, and lots of roms for Ray which I should give a try. I'm happy and I bought my Sola, waiting for amazon 2 ship it, but sadly realized that Sola has almost no development. Only rethemed roms by noobs, a miui port, and the FXP cm9 which is buggy as hell and lots of things not working. But I think Sola is great enough to use without custom roms. Sony promised JB so I ain't got no worries.
i bought 2 weeks ago a i9300. on i9300 android development much xperia z look roms, and i want know what is so special ? i find it generally xperia design & apps ugly and nothing special.
what do you guys think ?
For starters, Sony is very dev friendly and all of their devices have had the qualcomm SoC's meaning it makes for very good aosp roms. ^^
you can shower while using the xperia z. now that's hardcore for smartphone addicts.

hey guys...so I was searching for this in hope that there is a custom kernel for the Z Ultra that can do this.
IMO this is really helpful for this big guy thing is as I've read, the kit-kat update will skip this feature from Z2 and on the AOKP thread (the rom that brought this to the Z line) the dev said that the Z Ultra screen is not synaptics enabled "puzzled as what this actually mean"
so, long story short, IS THERE ANY CUSTOM KERNEL THAT CAN EFFICIENTLY EMULATE THIS FEATURE?
many thanks ^_^
Short answer: No
Long answer: Nope
I guess we'll get it at one point, but it's not possible quite yet (as far as I know).

the not possible part, that I don't like
keeping my fingers crossed for this feature ported on the KK update ^_^
thanks for replying
I think it is possible, as long there is an app for the galaxy nexus (and other phones but I tried it only on my old galaxy nexus) which allow you to double tap to wake (really useful when in class )

It's hardware dependent with regards to the digitizer I believe.

yeah that's what I thought also, maybe the digitizer on the ZU is not up to par with what is needed for this feature to work well. -_-
a confirmation on this would be most helpful
we'll see after the KK update lands

It's not in the leaked system dump from the ZU 4.4.2 build (unless that was a fake/hoax)
yeah, I think it's safe to say it was a hoax, I mean the "news"has been out almost a week now and NO .ftf or smth
maybe sony testing the waters
Don't some custom AOSP roms (or was it aokp i can't remember) allow the double to wake feature on some phones? I don't see why it wouldn't work on the Z ultra, just need someone to develop it. (Z ultra doesn't have one though)
Ok folks, thanks to the work of @reaper61616 we now have two roms that have DT2W. His build of PAC-man has it built in and my build of Carbon has it as a replacement kernel in post 2.
the kernel on the Carbon thread may boot other aosp/cm11 based roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692552 PAC-man
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2671948 Carbon - see post 2
The Carbon version has serious issues and the phone will often not wake at all
If you like this feature thank reaper
Before flashing a kernel make sure you have a backup in case it wont boot. ie nandroid

Hey everyone. New here.
I am looking at buying an Xperia Z Ultra and am wondering which edition you guys prefer. I have a choice of the Sony Android version or the Google Play edition. Which one do you think is better, seeing as they are both the same price.
Thanks in advance

if you need an LTE device, your choice will be between C6833 and C6806. The advantage of C6806 is the updates from Google, but both are fantastic phones... :good:

Note that Sony also sell the c6806 not just google.
What area/carrier? may make a difference to choice
I think you should choose the Sony version as you can convert it into GPe later on if you want. I personally prefer the Sony one as it's really beautiful and functional.

I have the C6806 GPE. Currently 335.00 at Expansys. Great phone, and I'm happy I went with the GPE. I can't find any of the bugs others had mentioned in the newest OTA.
I prefer the Ultra over my Nexus 5 and Oneplus One
I just bought the C6833 in White for £216 brand new, I'm not really a fan of vanilla android experience as it's too barebones for me, I just love the Sony software and feels like it gives more of a unique look than vanilla does. With the wonderful people on these forums, you can always convert it to GPe though (and back), give your self the best of both worlds imo.
