Is there a way to remove the on-screen keyboard(OSC) from popping up every time i dock my SGT? It's pretty annoying and surprising that samsung didn't notice this. I don't need an OSC popping up when i already have a keyboard present. besides, i could always call it up if i need it.
Thanks!
When you beginning typing, you will see a little keyboard icon in the notification steam. Touch it and change to the Samsung keyboard. That should do away with it. There are also two keyboard keys on the dock keyboard. One is 2-3 keys to the left of the spacebar and the other is above the shift key.
They seem to give you setting options and on demand pop up a touch keyboard

I've already tried changing to the samsung keyboard but it still keeps appearing. I know how to make it disappear by pressing on the key beside ctrl, but is there a way not to make the on screen keyboard appear at all when docked?
I have not found a repeatable amd tracable method. Sometimes changing soft keyboard to Samsung or English works go not make it appear. Sometimes it works other times it doesnt.
I am not really committing lot to figuring it out until after the TouchWiz update. But i have yet to excessively use the keyboard to be honest. So i may have more patience. It would be nice to be able to define a dock keyboard behavior and a handheld behavior. It is also annoying to switch back to thumb or swift keyboards.

Hey all!
The below information is for STOCK devices (or ROM's that are Stock and not using a custom launcher)
This is a Work In Progress, so if you have any tips that you found should have been in a manual, please feel free to post these and I will add them to the OP.
I just got my note yesterday and had to Google to find things that SHOULD have been covered in a manual or quick reference that wasn't.
Please keep in mind that this is my FIRST Samnsung phone (always been an HTC guy) so I am new to Samsung+Android+Touch Wiz and am guessing that I am not the only one.

3. Click Screen Display
4. Under Lock Screen you will find an option for Wallpaper
Screen Capture Without the S Pen (Thanks kimtyson)
You can screen capture without the S Pen by placing your right hand perpendicular to the right side of the screen (in a karate chop position) and sweeping left. If you are left-handed, you can use your left hand in the same manner, sweeping left to right.
Change Brightness (Thanks Boris Sidis)
Long press the notification bar and drag left or right to change brightness.

One more for giggles.
Those are pretty standard among android phones...My addition for the note would be using your palm or side of hand to take a picture.

True to a point. Those that have had Samsung phones and know how to use and navigate Touch Wiz, probably. But I know several folks that jumped ship from HTC to Samsung and we're all new and learning.
Thanks for the input though!
Could you go into more detail as to what you mean by using my Palm or side of my hand to take a pic so I can add it?
Thanks!
I thought this was going to be like the tips and tricks from the International forum but oh man was I wrong...
Atleast someone is getting a start on it right..

Lmfao. I don't know if you realize he was just making a crack at the size and not making a sincere suggestion.

I don't know if you realize he was just making a sincere suggestion. If you "karate chop" it you get a screen cap.

Long press the notification bar and drag left or right to change brightness.
Holding down on the notification bar and swiping for brightness will only work if you don't have auto brightness enabled. You can also take a screenshot by pressing Home and Power at the same time. I find that easier than karate chopping my phone.
This is normally presented to people when they set up their phones, but just in case someone skipped it, if you hold down the side button on the S-pen and double tap the screen, it opens up an s-memo over whatever app you're in so you can jot a quick note. There is also an option for this during phone calls.
EDIT: Here's a few other tricks that I haven't tested personally, but have heard from various sources:
1. If you are playing music and place your palm over the display, it quickly mutes the music.
2. While playing a video, tapping the power button will lock the display so it won't respond to touches. Pressing again will disable.
3. If you have motion activation enabled in your settings, when the phone rings you can flip it over to silence the ringtone.
4. Swiping a contact's name to the left in your contact list will quick-create a new message to them. Swiping to the right will call them.
Heres another, if you swype your fist accrpss the screen it takes a screenshot
Edit:nvm

Wish this worked without CheeseWhiz, odd it matters as the notification bar is framework, not launcher, but I couldn't make it work. Then again, I rarely managed to make the same function work in Cyanogen 7 either..
EDIT: Oops, yeah I'm an idiot, I had Automatic on, it works fine regardless of launcher.

You can also just press the power button along with the home button for screenshot if you don't feel like karate chopping your screen.

Are you finding the "back" button to be annoyingly out of reach?
Is there a way to switch the menu button and back buttons?
Also another quick question about the keyboard "one handed" function. Is there a way to make it full screen again without going into the settings? that seems very anti intuitive #justsayin
Yes it socks having the back button so far away but eventually I'll get on screen buttons and disable the capacitive ones. I've been using swype which is working quite well for one hand use

i am a lefty but have long enough thumbs that it is within reach. as far as going back to full keyboard, the only way i have found is to long press the key next to the space bar and it will bring up keyboard setting and then just tic the box for full screen

If you "pinch out" or "reverse pinch" horizontaly on the keyboard it goes from one handed to two handed. Sometimes! It's difficult to get it to work. "Reåerse pinch" just above the space bar and wait a second to see if it worked before trying again.
When it gets officially unlocked us southpaws wont have to worry, I believe it wont be any problem for a real good dev (we got several) to swap the back and menu button, what samsung ought to do is make it swappable for us lefties.
We will get fixed up soon, be sure to tune in to xda tv tomorrow for Adam Outlers note2 bootloader fix.
I also wish the spen was on the left side. There's needs to be a left handed specific device that caters to all of our needs!

Ok. I just tried using a pencil on my ZXU. When I swiped down the notification panel with it, there on the top is as shortcut for a new note and a new sketch. These shortcuts only showed when I swiped with a pencil.

Oh yeah nice find i was like, asking why there's no sketch anymore after using my finger but this is the answer thanks!
What kind of pencils are people using for Ultra?
I'm using fiber castell HB but it not as responsive because of the sharp tip. The back of the pencil is much much more responsive. I'll try to dull the lead tip so I can draw..

I'm using a ballpoint with spring mechanism on the other end, which was made by metal and because of the spring, the screen doesn't get pressed too much by the tip.
Oh so people are actually using REAL pencils?
I would want a stylish but no idea whats good.
Real pencil is more comfortable in drawing.

I use real pencils too, architectural office easy to find one!
If you want to swipe down and still see the note sketch shortcut just do it with your nail
Stinky tip ha!!!

"Fun" Fact: If you connect a mouse to your ZU, the same shortcuts will be in the notification dropdown
whaoh did not know you can use a mouse.
Yeah, just get a USB OTG. They are cheap and can be bought almost everywhere. Once you have one, you can plug a mouse into it, a keyboard or both (wireless bluetooth dongle), memory sticks, external drives, floppy disk drive if you miss the 90s, or a PS3 controller. The short story is that you can plug almost everything, if not everything that is USB based to it.

Will have to try it out. I did manage to make my USB drive to work though. Did not realize a mouse and keyboard will work. I was also able to use the PS3 DS3 controller on the XZU playing Modern Combat 4 but the controls are not mapped correctly.
You guys know the shop presentation mode? Try
*#*#73556673#*#*
But be careful, that resets Xperia home to default settings, enables Bluetooth, sets the screen timeout to 30s, wallpaper to standard and the font size to normal.

Another one.
Swipe off screen from the bottom in between the back and home icons or in between the home and recent icon and you will activate Google Now more easily compared to long press on the home button.

That's a stock feature for devices with on-screen buttons. It actually reacts when you drag your finger from the home button and up.

Nice finds. I also found out that any widget can be made into a floating app like the default small apps.
1. Tap "Recent Apps" and then the up arrow.
2. Now tap "+" and choose "Widgets".
3. Choose any widget, name it, tap "OK" and the widget will show up in the list.
4. Just tap the widget in the list to show it as a floating app.
5. The cool thing is you can double-tap the title bar of the floating widget to maximize the widget or drag it to the right or bottom border to "dock" them so that you bring them out easily while using another app. You can do the docking with the default small apps too.
there is this really cool feature called '6 week wait'
when something goes wrong with your device you have to wait 6 weeks... or more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been using my PowerCover (CP12) for a while now and noticed that whenever I use the included stylus, shortcuts for New Note and New Sketch appear in the drop down menu. I thought it was worth mentioning since i've noticed that it's not mentioned in reviews or the like. A stylus shortcut also appears on the keyboard. A stylus was also included in the box with my C6833 (from ebay).
this feature has been there for quite some time :good:, the same happens with a normal ballpoint pen or any other metal object being pointed at the screen
