[Q] Installed Custom ROM, boots into stock ROM - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Probably a dumb question on here but I couldn`t find it in searches..
I recently rooted my galaxy S3 and installed S4 revolution custom ROM. However after the installation it boots into what looks like a stock ROM.
The S4 ROM is supposed to be Android 4.2.2 but the ROM that is booted is 4.1.2. I installed it by copying it to the external card and putting the phone into recovery mode, I wiped cache and did a factory reset before I installed.
Can someone explain why it doesn`t boot into the new ROM and what I need to do?

Then you have not installed custom rom.
Go back to the rom and read and understand the instructions .
Multiple reasons why it failed user error the norm bad file wrong format less likely .
Use failed to install CWM recover is another .
Basics read first.

[Q] Cannot install Cyanogen... Confused with all the infos!!

I know it's been adressed many times in different ways, but the info I found yet is not clear so I need a little help! I am trying to install the latest stable Cyanogen mod, using Gingerbread 2.3.7.
I have a Galaxy SII from Bell that I rooted and unlocked when I got it last november. It came on 2.3.3 and I flashed an official 2.3.4 on it, mainly to improve the battery life (and it worked). I did that using Odin and it went well.
Now I try to install Cyanogen mod through ClockworkMod ROM manager, I download and launch the install from ROM manager but on restart the install fails because of the classic 3E recovery message that says the whole signature cannot be verified.
I was having doubts if my phone was even rooted, but since it is still unlocked and software like Titanium backup runs fine, I guess that confirms it!! I am not sure what route to take from here...
Right now here are the phone details...
GT-i9100 on 2.3.4, FW I9100XXKG2, Kernet 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG2-CL375027 [email protected] #2
I'll appreciate any help!!!!!!

|Question = Q&A
Looks like you are yet another that has not followed the instructions and flashed a cwm and root kernel .
Root + CWM .

OR are not following the instructions posted .
First time flashing CyanogenMod 7 to the Samsung Galaxy S II, or coming from another ROM?
Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Instructions are available here.
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
Perform a factory reset.
Flash CyanogenMod.
Clockwork mod recovery see

Thanks jje... The instructions did work! Tough I tought I had bricked my phone at one point, on the final restart it would get stuck at the Samsung logon screen, but I forced it back in recovery, re-flashed from the zip and then it booted in CyanogenMod!!!
I really appreciate your reply

Help with rooting and installing custom rom

Hey everyone,
i've got an i9300 device with 4.1.1 (XXDLIH) on it
I wanted to installed a custom rom on it (Omega ROM v38)
First i flashed CWM via Odin like in the instructions, after that i downloaded the rom put it in the sd card and booted the phone into CWM, i did the wipe and factory reset and choosed the rom zip for installing
After about 10 minutes the phone rebooted, but it is still on stock rom, so i thought what could the problem be and remembered that i need to root the phone first.
Now i have the problem that i can't (don't know), i don't know which way i should use for rooting so that i can afterwards install the Omega Custom rom ....
Note that i have now the CWM 5.5 recovery and don't know how to get back to stock recovery ...
Please if someone could tell me exactly what should i do, how exactly to root it and install the rom :/
Thanks everyone in advance
If you think that it would be better to install another custom rom then feel free to tell me

[Q] No Custom Rom Boots

Hi All,
Had my S3 for ever a year now all rooted succesffully and runnung wanamlite roms. all of a sudden it died - Samsung fixed it and my and sent it back however it was now on 4.3.
The problem I have now is that I am not able to boot any custom rom - I just get stuck at the samsung Galaxy GT-I9300 screen.,
Root Phone and install CWM
Check with Root Checker and its successful
installed all types of rom including Wanam 4.3 to no avail
All Stock roms including 4.1.4 work
I'm a bit stumped and any help would be appreciated - its as if my bootloader is locked
Thanks,
Jag
Die you try formatting everything including internal sdcard?
Do you have an international SIII without a simlock? Or was your SIII shipped with a simlock in the first place?
If you have a verzion SIII try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30274025&postcount=317
Ive done a clean rom install through philz cwm - im assuming this is the same as a clean install?
Im based in the uk so doubt I have a verizon model.
Thanks
You say any that presumes you have tried them all .
In recovery format sdcard system data cache boot to download mode flash stock rom or boot to recovery and flash your custom rom .
Really you should start by reading the faqs and guides first .
Hi,
Sorry for being so brief.
I have formatted sd card through mounts and storage and cache
Done a clean ROM wipe also.
Still no custom rom appears to boot - all stock roms flash fine through Odin. Restores of stock ROM are also working fine..
Then you are doing something wrong .
Start with a stock cwm rom .

[Q] My i9305 think it's a i9300 after formatting

Greetings fellow Earthicans!
I've been roaming these forums for several years now and have been able to fulfill all my custom rom needs by searching, trial and error. I've bricked all my phones at least once but have always managed to make the phone work better than when i first stardet modding it. This time i managed to do something i've never been able to do before and i'm therefor writing my first post here.
Yesterday i did a full wipe/format of everything available in CWM because the internal phone memory was close to full. In the process i managed to erase all my backups, which i thought was fine since i loaded my external sd with most of the custom roms and gapps available on this amazing forum.
However, when i tried to flash either one of the .zip files i get the same message "this package is for "m3", m3xxm i9305, gt - i9305 device; this is a "m0"." Even though i've had both avatar and miui ROM installed a few hour earlier. I was stuck on the boot screen, as so many other times with this and other devices.
So i searched around this forum and google and found out that m0 is the i9300 and my initial thought was "nice, perhaps i can install the custom roms of the i9300 by copying them to my ext sd and install through CWM" Which of course did not work and i realized i had to go back to stock through the download screen
So i downloaded my firmware (4.1.2 and 4.3) from sammobile.com to do a stock reset through odin 3.07. Both firmwares works fine and all of the phones functions work as intended, as far as i know.
I'm currently running 4.3 I9305XXUEMKC_I9305TLAEML1_I9305XXUEMK1_HOME.tar.md5 without any problem, but would love to be able to run custom ROMs again, but have no clue how to proceed.
I would be eternally thankful if someone know the solution to this problem i've encountered through my irresponsible actions.

This is not i9305 q&a .
in recovery format system sdcard data and cache then boot to download mode and flash the correct stock rom for your phone via Odin .

Thank you for your reply.
I've checked which of the stock rom to use and have done as you described, i can run the stock rom and currently am.
iIve rooted the phone and installed CWM through odin. When booting into CWM, and clearing as described in all guides, i still get the same error message given in my post above.
are you sure you do have the right recovery and that this is up to date?

[Q] i9300(international) 4.1.3 upgrade settings issue even after hard reset

Hi All,
1. i9300(unlocked international) got an upgrade 4.1.3 after that my setting link wont work at all,
2. tried a lot of things but nothing worked and had to hard reset
3. After rebooting it opens the welcome page and "unfortunately, settings has stopped"
4. Called Samsung -> they do not support international unlocked phones in the USA
5. Tried odin but it doesn't detect on my computer (yellow/blue tab) although i can go to download screen
6. Tried to install 4.4.2(omni) /4.1.2 -apply update from ext storage but it fails "e signature verification failed"
7. My phone is not rooted, i cannot enable the USB debug option now as phone settings does not work.
How do i proceed ? Tried this link( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163284) which says "flash ROM" /"flash gapps" but How? AM i missing something, i am not a developer could you please let me know in a layman's terms?
Faulty firmware is your problem with settings ,
The link you post is not for this phone .
USB debugging is not relevant .

Odin no connection see multiple identical posts .
Basics are change cable use USB motherboard port install Kies/ USB drivers .
Try another computer clean usb port .
boot the phone into the recovery mode then choose format the phone ( you will lose every thing on your phone except external storage will be untouched but it's the only way now ) you should back up your files weekly
funny thing there is no 4.1.3 only 4.1.2 / 4.2.2 / 4.3 JB
to install a custom rom u must have a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP or PHILX touch and in order to install a custom recovery you must be rooted
gapps are google apps for any AOSP/AOKP roms only ,, Samsung stock rom doesn't need this
since your warranty has ended long time ago just root the phone already

to install any ROM it's recommended that you have the latest RECOVERY installed
