Messaging is crashing on new ROM - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
First i'd like to say sorry for my english, because its not very good, but i hope we will understand each other
I installed my first custom ROM today, its a Jelly Blast from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33769086
I used an app called "SMS Backup & Restore" from google play to save my messages. This app saves msgs in a .xml format. After installing this ROM i restored all apps with "Titanium Backup", got into "SMS Backup.." and tried to restore my msgs. It was a long process, almost an hour of waiting (i have over 9000 messages), but everything seemed to be ok. After this i got into messaging and all i saw was "messaging not responding"...
I tried to download Go SMS, but the same thing happens.
I really need these messages, can i do something with it?

You can restore SMS through Titanium Backup, you don't need a separate app for it. I think you should go back to stock, use Titanium Backup to backup SMS, flash it again, download Titanium Backup, select the backup and then choose restore data only. That's how I did it with all the roms I have flashed , including Jelly Blast.

Q1, i knw the difference between odex and deodex read here but i wana ask, what are the main benefits of deodex ? is it that we can install theams and other stuff like that on stock with it? or smething else ..
Q2: i have tried successfully coderrom and blackhawk and i was able to restore my apps data with titanium backup but i tried cyanogenmod kang rc1 and was not able to restore anything is it not possible or any particular way to restore? i wana restore my call history , messages, contact etc usuallstuff.
Q3: the clockwork backup can it be restored directly above any rom ? if i am running cyanogen or coderrom and want to go back to my old backup just in case should i just restore my old backup directly ? or i have to flash the stock first and then apply backup(this is how i did for now tho)
Q1 - yes, for themes.
Q2 - I restore my backups pretty fine. But not messages and contacts. For contacts I the google account so it automatically restores. For sms I use Go Sms Pro inbuilt function.
And Q 3 yes, any rom.

havnt checked gosms pro tho but as i tried to restore dailer storage data with titanium nothing happend it did said successful tho, nor did contacts , is it because the dailer of cyanogen is different than that of stock and coderrom etc ?
is that dialer a part of touchwiz in stock roms ? if so can it be installed on cyanogenmd ? one more thing i saw cyanogen dont have task manger also tried to restore it but titanium got stuck in it nothing happned so finalyy restarted my phone...
i am back to stock for now still trying to decide wich rom should i go for

confused about backing up

ok iv searched about and read the threads that popped up under where i typed the title.
when i got my S2 the first thing i did was flash the litening rom, iv been using it for a couple of months got loads of apps, texts, numbers and emails on there.
now on my old htc i had an app which did a backup of all my contacts texts emails etc called pim backup, worked ok on that phone, maybe a bit slow and crap but hey did the job.
right i fancy trying out a new rom, iv read that there are programs etc for backing up my rom incase of a problem, and programs to back up apps etc so i dont need to re download, whats gonna happen to my texts and emails?
any help or even a shove in the direction of a guide that i cant find will be appreciated
You do a full backup of your ROM (including personal stuff) with ClockWorkMod-recovery.
For single apps I recommend titanium backup. Note that your messages and such may not be compatible to other roms. For example, you cannot restore the messages from a TW-ROM into MIUI.

ok well im currently running a backup on clockworkmod so this will do all my texts emails etc etc so when the new rom is installed i do the same but with restore??
and ill then be on a new rom, but with everything still on my phone (apart from any apps) which i restore thru titanium.
and i shall go look for this titanium backup right now.
thankyou very much
ooohh to add, is this clockworkmod backup, also backing up all my media files, like pictures, music, videos??

No because teh restore restore teh whole rom not just yoru SMS.
You dont need to backup your contacts etc as they are synced with yoru google acount.
If you want to backup/restore SMS you can use a SMS Backup & Restore
If you want to backup/restore your apps/app data you can use Titanium Backup.
When you install a new ROM your data (photos, ...) won't be touched.
ClockWorkMod will restore the entire ROM.
You have to be careful when restoring SMS'. If your ROM uses another app for messages, it won't be compatible.

[Q] Properly backing up MIUI sms'es to regular Android

Hi. Thing is that I've been using MIUI for a long time now but I wanna use regular Android now and I've like 7K SMS'es that I wanna bring with me. I've tried a whole bunch of SMS backup tools but they all seems to import the messages in a wrong order even though the dates are right. Extracting the messages from a Nandroid doesn't work because MIUI uses a different sms database format or something.
So I'm just wondering if anybody can help me with this or have any experience.
Thanks
How about using thirdparty sms backup app from market to backup the sms on miui rom that u use, then after u flash another rom just use the same app to restore the sms. Its not that hard to figure that out.
Anyway "sms backup and restore" by ritesh sahu never failed me, on stock, miui, or cm.

Titanium backup has an option to backup and restore messages in XML format. Give that a try. I usually use SMS backup and restore by Ritesh Sahu.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough but that's exactly what I've been trying. SMS Backup & Restore, MyBackup+ and other apps I forgot the names of.

The nandroid backup you had taken then, will restore the phone as an exact snapshot of how it was then. Any apps installed since (or SMS received for example) will be lost, but the phone will be exactly as it was when you took the backup.
If there are SMS that need to be backed up, I recommend SMS backup+, it will back up SMS to your Gmail account. You can even browse them as emails in gmail.
Any apps / data that you want to backup over and above what is in the nandroid backup, use Titanium. With this, ONLY backup and restore USER APPS. System data is incompatible.
Hope this helps. There are some guides in General, under "Roll-up Sticky thread". You should be able to get all teh info you need (including back ups) from tehre.

[Q] Sony Xperia U SMS Backup

Hey.
I have one problem with backing up and restoring messages.
Yesterday I installed CM11 ([ROM][UB][4.4.4][W25-S3][XperiaSTE Team] CyanogenMod 11.0), before that I was using stock firware 6.1.1.B.1.100.
I backed up my messages using SMS Backup & Restore, installed CM11 and restored using that app. It does restore messages, although when I open message app it says 'Loading conversations'.
I waited for over 10 minutes and nothing. I have around 11k messages and when I did restore on stock it loaded with no problem within 1 minute.
What's the problem?
Next time use titanium backup or nandroid manager.

So that means that the problem is in the app? Or would it say 'Loading Conversations' anyway?
Edit: tried to restore around 5k messages and it loaded in a minute.
Surely the problem is in the CM rom...
BTW Titanium uses. xml and Nandroid restores directly from the nandroid backup.

Thanks for the info
If anyone else is facing this problem - reduce your number of messages (worked for me - instead 11k I restored 6k) :good:

It will take a while to load the messages (all 11k of them) but after that you are good to go.
