Hey guys,
I've recently converted to the S3 from the GNex.. I'm used to the stock android feel. I've read that the Galaxy S 3 comes with unlocked bootloaders.. does that mean if I root I wouldn't have to clear data?
Because I'm honestly willing to settle with this phone, I've changed 7 phones in past 6 months and I'm sick of losing my data..
So help me..
Can I root without losing data?

yeah you can just root using cf root
I'm really interested in rooting.. but I'd prefer staying on stock ROM. Is there a way I can root, and modify the stock ROM?

yeah if you just download the lastest cf root and flash it with odin you stay on the stock rom
Okay thanks.. I will definitely give that a try..

Really easy and clean way to root your phone is through the SG3 Toolbox. Check out:

There are a whole bunch of other very useful tools also included.

yes you would be able to flash a unbranded firmware just flash it through odin the nonce youve done that set the phone up the flash cf root
Does it necessarily need to be through odin? Will it not work using the toolkit?

using odin only takes about 30seconds to do the set up then about 5minutes to flash the actual firmware ive never used toolkit so i dont know how long it takes doing it that way

The toolkit is doing the same thing. It's best that you learn to do it through Odin. It's far more safe this way it's not like you are going to break it or anything.
Let's hope not

Can I ask a viber ques? Am trying to run it on both my sgp5 & itouch4 - but it always shuts the latest device added off - it will support two devices but not if it thinks both are cell phones. Apparently it thinks sgp5 is a phone & itouch4 is an iPhone. Can I tell my sgp5 to be a tablet to help this? Most threads about this only show this for ICS running on sgp5 but I am on cm11 KK and not even sure what else tab mode might do. But it might be worth going to ICS to get tab to get viper to stay on?

So, I'm attempting to help my girlfriend root her tablet from multiple hundreds of miles away, and its not easy, let me tell you. Basically, she has no access to a computer in order to complete the process, and of course she's on the latest firmware... so I'm here hoping someone is capable of creating an app that can do it for her. I see there was one in the past, but its obviously no longer working. If someone could do such a thing now... it would help me out so much, I'd be willing to pay. Thanks, guys.

Nobody because it's not possible for now.
The guy who made the sparky root method said in that thread that he'd port the newest root method to an apk format when he got a chance. Therefore, my argument is still valid.

Yes. Unlock, flash a custom recovery with fastboot (but you need a computer if you aren't rooted). And from recovery flash any ROM you want.
See, the issue here is there is no USB access on her computer, so whatever is done, it has to be from the tablet itself.

After going through the unlock process on the Verizon Note 2, would I be able to then use a MetroPCS sim card in it? I went through the entire process in Casual, it said I was unlocked, but when i popped my metro sim, it wouldn't recognize it.
I'm guessing I either messed up somewhere, or it isn't capable of doing it.
Can anyone shed some light?

You will need to install the kernal. Which SS does not do. Even getting it running you would have lots of issues with a 4.3 kernal.
