I can't send or receive SMS. I can use data and voice.
If I try to update the SMSC, I get "update failed".
If anybody helps me figure out how to fix this, I am offering a $5 payment via PayPal.
Thanks,
Pachonk
Just for the heck of it, have you tried a third-party app like Go SMS to see if the problem persists? What CM 10.2 are you running (nightly, IRC)? Have you updated your profile from a Sense ROM in awhile?
I'm currently running CM 10.2 9/16 IRC build and SMS is fine.

I am on the latest nightly. On ANY Rom I can't send or receive now. I'm not sure if 10.2 even caused it, however.

I can't think of anything, really. Only thing that comes to mind is you having recently activated your phone but I don't really see that being the issue if you have voice & data. You could always flash back to a Sense ROM and do a reset with the dialer codes and basically reactivate your phone, although I'm not sure what good that would do.
Dont know alot about cyanogen but i think its an aosp messaging app. Can you also install the samsung official app? If yes do a reinstall of cyan and choose sms instead of aosp sms. Maybe that would work

Once again, any Rom any SMS app won't work. Thanks! I
I was just having this issue, even with 3rd party apps. Was on 8/30 carbon build. But a full clean reinstall fixed it.
That said, gvoice seemed to work for text briefly, but then it failed, too.
You use Google voice? If so, you check to see if any settings got changed somehow (has happened to me) ?
There's a setting in it for receiving text via gvoice or messaging.

Hello, I am running the newest nightly build 03/26/12 of CM9 for my i777 and I cannot seem to understand why my screen doesn't wake when I get an SMS message. I have asked in the ported thread, but I haven't got a response. Hopefully somebody can help me out. Thank you.

stock SMS app may not natively. Best bet is to grab an alternative from play store like "handcent" or "go".

Eh, I guess I will wait for a fix or find another ROM. I am quite fond of the stock messaging app.

I hear ya.. have you tried hand cent? HIGHLY customizable. You can make it look HOWEVER you want with, seriously. Also like I said, stock messeging app may not wake the phone up natively. You could be waiting for a fix that isn't need or gonna happen. Also, play store MIGHT have an app to wake phone upon notification..

I've been messing around with various JB ROMs, but I prefer flashing the nightly builds. Recently I've noticed I only get notifications on the nightly build for my stock apps such as gmail, email, and messaging. Snapchat displays no notification and I have to open the app to manually check for updates. Notifications for everything worked fine on the latest PA ROM. Any idea what's going on?

Yes I did!
I wasn't sure what the problem was so I actually had a very similar thread since I thought they were 2 different issues.
Basically you can't restore snapchat with titanium backup.
If you uninstall it and reinstall it via the playstore it will work.

Try changing your network settings. From CDMA/lte to CDMA only.
Some have problems and some don't. It may be a network issue as many Sprint forums complain about it
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
What you need to do is go to the stock messaging app and go to the settings and uncheck auto receive mms. Then when you get a mms go into the stock messaging app and click download. That'll fix it

I'm having the same issue, where I cannot send nor receive MMS messages. I tried changing the network type and unchecking the "auto-receive" setting and using the "download" buttons in the actual message but to no avail.
If anyone has any other ideas (other than contacting Sprint) please let me know! It's strange that it only affects some users and not others.
Thank you in advance!
If you are on cm10 or 10.1 then sprint can't help you.
So don't waste your time.
You can try sending a MMS to yourself. That's one of the first things i do when i flash an aosp rom. It might hang for me 1 out of 20 MMS.

Can you describe exactly what the problem is? Is the picture just not going through at all?
MMS
I can't get MMS to work either. I flashed the unofficial cm 10.1 rom and just yesterday I flashed the cyanogenmod black 10.1 rom. Now i've tried other suggested fixes and they don't work. I downloaded go sms on both roms and i can send and receive mms, but for some reason I can't do it in the stock apps. This leads me to believe that its not an issue with the network but rather the stock app. Am I correct? I usually use go sms but I like the fact that with the stock app i can pull down the notification bar and just push reply from there and get a little pop up window.
BTW when I uncheck auto-receive it just shows me that I have a mms message but it won't download. This is the only issue I've had so far with cm 10.1. I don't want to go back to a sense rom.
Galaxy Nexus - Same MMS Problem on LTE only... 3g ok
Tried cm10, pa3, and EOS 4 all have the same issue when sending/receiving MMS while on a LTE.
Everything works great on 3g.
Compared the the APNs for EOS and the stock OTA 4.2.1 from sprint (which mms via LTE work) and they look the same.
So whats broken with all these roms?
You guys should try this. Back in the day ,pre-android era, whenever I had issues with text I would send one to myself and that would fix it! So I sent myself an mms and that fixed it for me. Also try sending it through goSMS maybe and then uninstall the app if you don't like it. Keep in mind that I am able to receive MMS through goSMS just not the stock app. Good Luck!!

I've tried all the quick and not so quick fixes offered so far including yours and none including yours work... sorry. The problem is with the ROM(s) which most assuredly are not based on the official OTA 4.2.1 from Sprint. I know this because mms works on the official OTA from sprint for either wifi, 3g, and LTE. So until the rom devs decide to fix this problem we are not going to be able to send/recieve mms on LTE.
Hmm

It isn't a major issue but annoying just the same. Anybody know a fix?

Thanks for the reply. It happens even on a full wipe and fresh flash with the stock app. Even when I disable the notifications in the stock messaging app to use go sms same deal...
Also to be clear It has been going on since I switched from Sense ICS to AOSP ICS and continues through JB 4.1 & 4.2.

I'm on the 1.5 and its working. but SMS does not work if you are using the stock touchwiz sms. this is because it wakes the screen when you get a message so that ruins it. but hangouts, emails, instagram, etc work fine for me

I think the talkback is just an accessibility bug for samsung devices. Only happens when an app is using accessibility.
dev claims to have fixed the Samsung SMS bug. haven't tried it yet.
added several new options. most notably (for me) was the option to use this as the lock screen. went ahead and went premium!
