[Q] Updateing Verizon Tab 10.1 I905 to ICS - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a samsung galaxy tab 10.1 with verizon 4g LTE. I was trying to root it, and was having trouble so I decided to restore it. When I bought the tablet used on amazon, it already had 4.0.4 on it, but when I reset it I got reverted back to 3.1. I have no idea how to fix this. I tried rooting using this thread as a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657758. But I had no luck. I also found this: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/34094-rom-official-update-lp11-official-ics-update-for-vzw-101-lte-tab/ , But I couldn't get to fe01. I tried Kies but that didn't work either. Now I have no idea what to do, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. If there is already a better link dealing with this issue point me to it please.

I have a root zip you can use... let me know and I'll post it..
As for getting cwm or TWRP recovery on the device.. I have a file with a cwm that I used to get a custom recovery on my tab using odin.. but once on it, I suggest getting an updated recovery. You can do this by flashing a recovery zip in the older cwm. There is also a TWRP recovery file you could use in Odin, but I read in the op that it's hit or miss. It's in the infamous aokp rom op.
I just remembered that the root zip is for 4.0.4 ICS.. what are you on right now..
Really once you have a custom recovery you can flash a rooted rom, unless you plan on staying stock..
Let me know what ya think...

I have Clock work mod on my phone, but i can't get root access, so yesterday I installed a 4.2.2 nightly rom. i tried rooting in 4.0.4 but it wouldn't work, then I tried again in 3.1 and still no luck. I think I might just stayin the rom I have now, but I would like to go back to 4.0.4 stock w/ touchwiz. I also tried the OTA update with no luck. If I can root in the rom I have now, I'll keep it, but otherwise I'll go back to 4.0.4 or stock. I'm kind of new to this so your help is greatly appreciated.

I would have thought the nightly was rooted.. you go to developer settings and give root access to apps and adb...
Also... if you go back to stock 4.0.4..I have a root zip you can use... I'll throw up a link to my dropbox..
Here is my dropbox link... https://db.tt/8bEz54AY
You need to extract the files out of the zip... should be an Odin file... cwm recovery tar for 4.0.4....and the root zip for 4.0.4..flash the root zip in recovery... you could try it on a different rom. Just have a backup...
Also... you can stick with cwm, but I believe TWRP is a better recovery for this device... I prefer infamous TWRP.. you can flash the TWRP zip in cwm and then reboot recovery to check it out..

I don't know how to get back to stock 4.0.4. That's what i want to do. I cant do it over ota, and kies isn't working. It does give me root options in settings, but when I go into superuser it says root access... fail! Should I try to restore to default and update through OTA?

As far as the 4.0.4 rom... get it from sammobile.com

can't get into recovery on rooted Vibrant

I recently got a Samsung Vibrant that was already perm rooted (I think he said he used a one click method) the problem I am having is that when I go into recovery I get a blue menu. At that menu I select reload packages and it aborts with a not signed signature error. I can't get to the green recovery screen to flash Roms or do a Nandroid back up. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks

Download ClockWork's Rom Manager from the market "Rom Manager" and install their recovery from inside the app - hope this helps.
You can try to do the ROM manager flash CwMRecovery, boot into blue recovery choose "reinstall packages" and that should give you green recovery.
The above process may need to be repeated multiple times. Once you access green recovery choose "apply sdcard:update.zip" then choose "advanced" and "reboot recovery"
I personally don't think you should not be using any one click root app to aquire ROOT. I would suggest you uninstall any said app and ROOT your phone properly, you can use the GUIDE sticky and it should be fairly straight thru and easy. Good luck!

I would Odin back to stock and start over.
Here is info how to do it.

Just download SGS kernel flasher from the market and flash a voodoo injected kernel. You will then have voodoo red recovery. BOOM!

I did this method and it is back to stock and has lost it's root. I need to root it again. can you point me in the right direction for a good root process? I am new to the Vibrant. Knew everything about the myTouch 4G and now have to switch my thinking. It's quite different. I would appreciate it. Thanks
install rom manager and then do a clockwork recovery from thereonce u have that done. Then u get the update package and do the 3 button combo and u will be on a blue screen and then install packages u will have to do this twice. after that it will turn green and ur there and rooted.
Ok, it's just not reinstalling packages for me again. I used Odin to get back to stock, and I lost root and was back on 2.1 Eclaire. I used Super one click to get root back. Flashed Rom Manager. Went into recovery with volume up and down and power. I was able to install packages and it worked and got me to green CWM. Then I installed the 2.2 update using Keis, flashed Rom Manager. I went back into recovery, I got the blue screen again. Tried to reinstall packages and it aborted again with signature error, tried multiple times and no go. What is up! I just can't get it to work. I certainly do not want to stay on 2.1 Eclair.

I honestly think the signature issue is due to kies update or the one click root option. (prob the kies update but not sure)
- This is the method I use to ROOT and would suggest everyone use as well:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723479. Once in green recovery I would recommend making a nandroid backup before moving on.
- I would not recommend using kies to update to 2.2.
If you just want stock 2.2 I would suggest try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036193. I would suggest you use the CwM version opposed to the ODIN version for reasons stated by OP there.
- Honestly I would search the Vibrant Android Development thread and take a look at some other custom ROMs you might like. You might like Bionix1.3.1 its 2.2 firmware and the theme and mod option support is out of this world. There are alot of 2.2.1 ROMs available as well you might like.
Take a look at the Bible for options: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991267

You need to install a stock recovery replacement that doesn't check the signature. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423 tells how. Or just Odin back to a firmware from before signature checking in the recovery screen was activated, but then you may have to re-root your phone.
The version of 2.2 that Kies installs has the signature checking recovery, so if you're running with that, you'll have to replace your recovery. Anything earlier, and you should be fine without.
I just want to say thank you to everyone for being so helpful. TMO is sending me a replacement because I was having freezing issues and email notifications not working. I will definitely root it the correct way and use all your helpful links. I think my next phone is going to be the SGS II. Can't wait for the US release
why do you need the kies update if you just wanna flashed a custom rom? you dont need to

Are you saying that all Rom's run on 2.1? I tried Darky's 9.5 Rom and it fc'sd everything and threw my phone into constent ringing.
I think the BIG issue is just NOT to do the samsung kies update thats what borks things up. Its easier to root everything from 2.1 and then if you want 2.2 or 2.2.1 or 2.3 just flash custom ROMs. If you want to do the official samsung kies update I would suggest not to ROOT at all. Just get your new phone and update it. Good luck!
I definitely want to root it. I changed Rom's all the time on my myTouch 4G. I'll get it worked out
Awesome! I'm sure you'll get it just the way you want it, personalized to fit your tastes. Just keep in mind to stick with custom ROMs after you ROOT and not to do the samsung kies update. There are a number of GREAT 2.2 and 2.2.1 custom ROMs available for our device with little or no bugs at all thanks to the hard werk of multiple Devs and Dev teams with unlimited theme and modification options, hope you find exactly what your looking for. Good luck!
need help. i flashed 2.3.3 and it wont go into recovery now. tried both 3 button combo and rom manger into recovery. just reboots my phone
After you flash the update.zip and get root. You dont have to do the kies update in order to flash other roms. Just root and dont do the kies update. Remember after you flashed a custom rom wait 10 minutes n reboot. Theres alot of guides in here . Check the stickies. I would recommend trigger 3.2 with bullet

how do i make my gtab stock again. i rooted it and im running it on a 3.2 custom rom but want to make it stock 3.2 rom and unroot it
Did you take a nandroid backup before rooting? If so, restore that in CWM.
Else find any stock Odin Rom and flash using Odin.

I don't always subscribe to the "search the forums" approach, but if you are smart enough to find the instructions to root and install a custom ROM, you are capable of finding unrooting instructions without creating a new thread. Hint: the instructions to unroot are immediately after the instructions on how to root...

[Q] Flashed SpeedMod, no root?

Hi Guys, first time flashing and just successfully done so with SpeedMod kernel. Checked the kernel version and yup it's there.
One problem though, I tried installing Titanium Back up but it says my phone is not properly rooted. So I downloaded Root Checker and it says that my phone is indeed not properly rooted. What happened? I thought SpeedMod automatically installs root?
Hope (and Im sure) you guys can help me. Thanks in advance!

Installing speedmod kernal won't give you root access.. 1st you have to root your phone.. Search for it.. I will tell one method.. Flash an insecure kernel.. Then use 's2 root ' to root your phone.. There are many other methods..

So what I have to do is flash an insecure kernel, then flash SpeedMod again?

Speedmod automatically roots your phone....
I expect superuser wasn't updated to the latest version,
Did titanium give an option such as 'yes, do it'?
If so, it's because your superuser app was not updated to latest version, check it on the android market.
I've flashed SpeedMod hundreds of times, it's never once failed to root.

I flashed it using Odin. Titanium didn;t give me that option either. I guess Ill just check the market for the latest Superuser then. Ill get back to you guys once I get back home, still here at work.
Thanks for the replies!
Ok so I downloaded the latest SU. Tried updating from within the app. So i got to the black screen with the green fonts, it says i run the legacy version. Then when it gets to the gaining root access.... Part, it always says fail. I tried dling the Su updater but all its says is ok.

My suggestion as you are going around in baffling circles .
....................................
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Start over with your custom rom root whatever .
Thanks for the tip Jjegan but I can't afford to lose all my apps in the process as I still can't use Titanium Backup. I've already updated to Superuser v3.0.7 but Root Checker still says I do not have proper root access.
I was browsing the OneClick Root thread and I saw someone there with the same problem (Superuser installed but can't use apps that require root access) but was not answered (I went from page 1-39). Spekaing of OneClick Root, would it work? It says it installs Superuser, su and Busybox.
I hope someone can help me with this.
**Also, would reflashing the stock kernel then flashing SpeedMod again solve the problem?
Might sound obvious but anyway: go into su, scroll over to the log and check that su hasn't been inadvertently blocked.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
No use. My log is empty plus I set the automatic response to Allow. Still nothing.
Should I just reflash the original kernel, clear all data then reflash Speedmod?
I'm running stock firmware btw.
I ran S2 Root and it says my device already has PERM ROOT. I'm getting confused...
Try fixing permissions, if that doesn't work try flashing a CF kernel or the original one. If all else fails you might have to bite the bullet and follow the advice above and start with a clean slate.

Have you ever used the program ODIN? If you already have the driver installed into your computer ODIN should be able to bring it back. Install Odin and find the your Operating system files for your phone. Im sure theres a video or forum for it. Google it.

Of course you don't have CWM Recovery; you flashed a stock kernel. Having root and having CWM are not the same thing.
Relax, you didn't do anything wrong; you're just not finished yet. What you need to do now is download Mobile Odin from the market, and use it to flash either Entropy's Daily Driver or Siyah. Either one includes CWM Recovery.

Cheryl, I had the same problem when trying to go back to stock 4.4.2 from being rooted. Sometimes it doesn't stick the first couple of times, I don't know why. First, get a fresh copy of 4.4.2 NC5, here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712205 this is a complete copy OS/bootloader/baseband. Just follow the instructions on the thread. Here is a link for Samsung drivers, and Odin v 1.85 http://www.downloadodin.info/download-odin-1-85 I think Odin v 1.85 works best.

Thank you in advance,
Tom
Tried the update and phone was slower idk but I restored my previous rom and will keep it that way until android l. If you haven't downloaded it yet don't bother there's nothing exciting accept you can say I'm running 4.4.4

You download odin than downliad twrp than run odin and check ap and select the twrp you downloaded. Put your phone in download mode and start odin. One thing you need to watch out for is after the process finishes the phone reboots and you need to have it go immediately into recovery instead of booting up.. if you need more info you will need to do some reading there are plenty of how toos and i can't type this much on my phone
