Due to the lack of a pc can I not flash via odin. You can make the flash xxmb2 through recovery?
Sorry for my bad english and thanks
You could make, had you copied the system folder and made a flashable zip with it.
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda app-developers app
Possible, but i do not have the means to do so. Could you do it?
What are you requestioning is not available for our devices. There is an Odin Mobile app but its too risky. Even if you will make the flashable zip with contents of XXMB2 system files it will lead on a brick. I am sorry! The only way is flashing via ODIN.

You could do the porting mobile odin on this phone. The problem now is that there is no one who could do it.

Its tested only on Ace not Ace I and i don't want to test it because it may lead to a hard brick and a dead phone. I suggest you to don't try it.

I don`t think so. You can install/flash either with cwm (on your phone)or odin ( on your pc). To flash with cwm i guess you already need to be rooted.
so without pc i cant root and not install clockwork?

Ya same question.. Can we root without pc??? Please any solution...
Sent from my GT-I9100
Would be great to root with update.zip like on the ace. Makes a lot easier!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
You have to get a foot in the door by flashing cf-root Kernel or a rooted custom rom with Odin.
As soon as cwm is installed on your phone you can flash a lot without Odin.
Maybe you can ask a friend. Flashing a Kernel with Odin takes only seconds.

Wouldn't it be extremely dangerous being able to gain root access so easily via a simple app? Malware authors would rejoice I guess.

As Sammy devices can - unlike most other Android devices - just be flashed with anything (from a PC running Odin) due to nonlocked bootloaders, no one pulled the effort to look for exploits to gain root as it's simply not needed.
99.9784% chance that (as of yet) you really need a PC and Odin to root.
Hi there...
I am new with Samsung phones...came from HTC.
I rooted my SGS 3 with cf-root as discribed in another topic. No i have a CWM based recovery. Can i use clockwork mod to flash roms from sd or do i have to use Odin ?
If Odin... which files do i need to flash or is it always just one file (.tar ???).
Hope u can help...even If it is with a link to another topic

Yea you can use cwm for nearly all custom roms just read the installation instructions first
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Isn't it the same as with the HTC... just download the rom and "instal from zip" when phone is booted in recovery mode ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Metod is the same on all android phones with cwm.

For a good, stable and fast rom you could try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334 and choose 2.2.0 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656. Both roms` s are good. Choose for yourself . Look in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1566for for all rom`s.
I am sorry but i do not have any experience with cwm based phones. My HTC was fully clockwork modded. But the options when booted in recovery are the same...so i asume it Works the same ??

CWM is short for 'Clockwork Mod'
So they not only look the same but (except for potential device-specific features) ARE the same =)

if you do, I think it may also wipe your sd card so you need to have the Rom on the external sd card, and have the internal one backed up on pc
Most ROM downloads in zip format should flash through cwm and most tar through Odin, however, as previously stated, read installation instructions to be sure.
You also may want to checkout the TWRP recovery, much more efficient IMO

I downloaded one of the leaked custom roms of LSJ (Simplistic and Wanamlite). I flashed it, but the problem is it gets stuck with the boot logo. What seems to be the problem here? I have wiped everything. From data to cache. I came from CM10 nightlies, dorimanx kernel.
All replies will be much appreciated.
I believe the mask might be the problem because jb is new file structure. It may strip all mods from your phone.
Yu may have to wait until the offical version has been out for a while before flashing it.

Quite a possibility that the file you have download it may be corrupted so download it once again and check the md5 checksum and then flash it.. Also don't forget to wipe data and cache partition

The file was not corrupt because if it was corrupt, I cannot open it via winrar. Quite strange. I have also did a full wipe in data and cache.
Thank you for your response.

Download this cwm zip http://download.chainfire.eu/267/SuperSU/CWM-SuperSU-v0.97.zip after you download it. Rename it to update.zip, place it to your external sd, reboot to recovery(volume up,home button, power button)wait until you see the greendroid, flash update external storage. Reboot!and your rooted. you can now flash http://www.mediafire.com/?cjf1znoisrwafjdphils kernel for better instability flash it via odin just add it to pda.

and i think if i only could replace the build.prop file things would be working again. I have a backup of that file.
Was phone rooted??? If then with what???
if you bricked your phone it would be better to flash stock rom you originally had and then flash recovery , root it and then install custom rom

Use the galaxy s3 toolkit best way for root I think just read it carefully and use the right variant model and update eg 4.1.2 and not earlier very simple

I found the easiest was was to use cf auto root through Odin on windows laptop and then install a recovery using ROM manager from the play store.. And then away ya go! Don't forget to back up before ya change anything

Rom manager is not such a good idea with the S3. Safer to use mobile odin and Flash a recovery that way.

I didn't realise it wasn't a good idea to use ROM manager with the s3.. Why is that then? I went that way because my laptop is a Macbook and hiemdall didn't seem to work well so I had a quick ten mins on a laptop at work with Odin to root and then I only had my Macbook to use so ROM manager is the way I went too manager seems to be the same thing as well

From experience I can say that using ROM Manager can soft brick your device. I once wanted to use it with my old S2 to install CWM and I got into a bootloop afterwards. Only re-flashing a Samsung ROM via Odin helped to boot into Android.
One of the easiest way (in my opinion) to root your device is to flash a Kernel via Odin that will give you Root. The Siyah Kernel is a good place to start, since the developer also provides tar files for odin to flash. It will give you Root and from then on you can install Stweaks and flash CWM from there.
I wish i d of spoke to u a few months ago when I first rooted cause I buggered about with it for weeks! I didn't realise you could install recovery from steaks either.. Have you got much apple Mac/android sync experience?.. I can only describe it as trying to get arch rivals to mate!.. Might just dual boot windows on the Macbook if I can't get them to play nice
