After doing this I went to boot into recovery but it wont turn on. I wonder if tearing it apart and doing a battery pull will do anything or is it a paperweight now?
Those RKxx generic recoveries do not really work generic on all Rockchip devices. I got the same issues with a RK3066 based Tablet.
its not really bricked. Just switch back to regular recovery by flashing a complete ROM image and the device should start again.
It's working again. After sitting for a day it starts. I was trying to put recovery on there so I could install play. It belongs to a friends little kid so that's why I'm messing with this turd.
Can't blame him for giving a little kid a black Friday special. You don't give a little kid a Nexus 7 abuse.

I installed Rom Manager and then downloaded the recovery for Samsung galaxy s2. When hit reboot into recovery. I am unable to perform any operations in CWM. I had to connect the phone via usb and issue a "adb reboot" command to get back.
How do we make cwm work.

Also must people are having issues flashing in cwm after using ROM manager. If you try installing from cwm and get verification error you needed to flash again then kernel and don't use ROM manager
Flashed CWM and nothing is happening
I flashed CWM Recovery 5.0.2.3 using the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823. However, when i go into CWM and select something the only thing that happens is the logo for CWM shows up with a black screen. When I push the power button again it will go back to the list.I am using the stock rom and it hasn't even been rooted yet. When I try to root using super one click, it gets stuck at step #5. Please Advise.

The key mapping is different. I had the same issue. Try the home key to select in place of the power button and the back key for back
Also if not rooted I do not think CWM will work...
Use this by Entropy512 it is flawless.

Root is having access to root account in os. It has nothing to do with cwm since cwm is loaded before the os loads.

In addition, all of our CWM-enabled kernels are "insecure" kernels - They give root at all times to ADB sessions, this is why SuperOneClick works after flashing them.
But only ADB sessions get root, so you use the "rooted" ADB shell to root the system partition. After that you've got perma-root until you nuke su and Superuser.apk from /system

I think I am confused again?
When I flash a kernel, I have root. I have never used super one click. Just flashed your kernel. I thought that is what gave me root? Are you saying I still do not have root for /system files? Or does your kernel push su and superuser when it is flashed?

Mine does, codeworkx's doesn't.
Setting a kernel to be insecure is a lot easier and takes less time than putting in a robust root-inject script.

Entropy512: Does this mean that codeworkx's kernel must be flashed with SuperOneClick in order to have complete root (to /system)... but with your kernels we don't need to flash SuperOneClick? If so, in order to unroot (without SuperOneClick) I suspect one would have to flash the non-root stock kernel? Thx

Yes. (Unless you flash an su package with CWM instead of SuperOneClick)
Really, all SuperOneClick is doing are the following commands, assuming you've got a proper su binary and Superuser.apk:
Code:
adb remount
adb push su /system/xbin/su
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/xbin/su
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
adb shell chmod 644 /system/app/Superuser.apk

I have downloaded CWM Manager and I have tried to install it but it has failed. Is there a different type of process to doing this other than opening it through root explorer?
what are you trying to do? just use the 3 button combo or extended power option to boot into recovery and flash away?
Ok, I am having a huge issue with trying to flash a custom rom. I will try to explain this the best way I can. I have had the same problem as above when trying to use CWM in recovery. Here is what I did:
- I unrooted my phone
- flash CWM with "SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar"
- then it boots into CMW recovery and I can't do jack. When I try to select anything I just get a blank screen with the clock workz logo. If I hit the volume up and down buttons again the list of options comes back, but I will be stuck with the same situation if I try to select any options.
I was able to successfully root my phone in another instance using galaxys2root.com's method, however when I tried to use cwm I also ran into the same problem. I have yet to be able to use anything in cwm recovery. Please help me. I have flashed my phone multiple times and probably bricked it also. Luckily i haven't done any damage yet, but i would like to be able to flash roms. I am still kinda new to flashing roms, but i was able to flash my old infuse like a champ without any of these problems.

i didnt read all of the posts until after i posted. thanks for not slashing me. so it looks like i use the home button to select then the back button still goes back. got it.
On a side not, I do not remember reading about that within the posts for rooting and flashing clockworkz. I tend to skip over things when reading, but I think someone should put that in big fat red letters "USE HOME BUTTON TO SELECT".
Hey all,
I installed CWM and loaded CM9 on my TF201.
I decided I wanted to try Androwook 2.1 as I really need usb disk support.
I followed the instructions on the page and flashed TWRP recovery (successfully).
I went into TWRP and backed up all my data.
I wiped EVERYTHING & then I tried to install Androwook (5 times) with the stable motley kernel.
After finishing in Aroma it's failing with the following:
-checking model id
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "tf201"
Any idea how to get past this point? - Thanks in advance!
could be a corrupt download, redownload the rom push it with adb and try it again see if maybe that works
also make sure your on the latest twrp or the one before it think it was 2.1.3?, its either the rom or the recovery bugging out i think

So can I flash that if I have CWM? I can't get anything to work. ADB not working cuz drivers aren't working. universal naked drivers won't work.
And of course in CWM it doesn't see the sdcard...so am I screwed or missing something?
I started by the directions and using goo manager cuz I didn't want to mess w adb while I was at work, and now I'm stuck in CWM and can't get a damn thing to work.

You have to get ADB working, then you can start in fastboot and flash TWRP . power + vol down and use vol. to choose the one in the mittle of the screen, usb icon.
You can also push a rom to the sdcard when you are in recovery mode. = power + vol down and vol up
I used this cmd : adb push "romname" /data/media/ to push the rom.
Then Cwm could se the rom.
Cmd: Adb push "romname" /sdcard didn't work for me. Cwm couldn't se the internal sdcard.
If it continues to boot loop, then startup in fastboot menu and wipe it from there. It's the one to the left.
Wipe from recovery menu didn't work for me. Fastboot menu wipe did.
[Q] "Bricked" Allwinner A10 cmp741e Tablet, ADB works but lacks system/bin/sh
Hey guys, Please help me out. I am so close to getting the tablet to boot into android OS again but I made a silly mistake and I am not sure what to do now. I am a noob and have tried everything. Your help is greatly and desperately appreciated.
I have the Craig 7" tablet, model CMP741e, processor AllWinner A10.
What happened: I formatted my /system and rebooted, so /system was totally empty. My device will only boot to the splash screen and cannot get to the booting animation. Problem is, there is no hardware key combos to boot into recovery again.
Recovery was installed with this script:
Code:
cat /sdcard/recovery.img > /dev/block/nandg
One could boot into recovery with this script AFTER booting into android OS:
Code:
echo -n boot-recovery | busybox dd of=/dev/block/nandf count=1 conv=sync; sync; reboot
I cannot boot into recovery through ADB with the above script because the device does not have /system/bin/sh. Whenever I tried the above command to boot into recovery, it tells me that /system/bin/sh is not found.
I proceeded to adb push the entire /system directory from a nandroid backup into the tablet. HOWEVER, I made a silly mistake of pushing a bogus file named "bin" into the /system directory of the device. Now when I tried to push /system/bin/sh into the device, adb tells me that /system/bin is not a directory ( because there is a file named "bin" within the /system directory of the device).
I tried removing the "bin" file from the /system directory of the device but didn't work. "adb rm" did not work, and "adb shell rm" did not work either because adb tells me again that /system/bin/sh is not found.
For now I am looking for a solution to:
1) boot into recovery again
or
2) delete the "bin" file from the /system directory of the device, so I can push my /system/bin folder into the device.
or
3) anything to get my device to boot into android OS again
Any, any advice would be appreciated. Thank you guys.
why don't you try restoring the firmware by booting off a sdcard as described on the manufacturer page in engrish http://www.craigelectronics.com/site/pdetails.php?id=414

Android cersion 4.0.3
Kernel version 3.0.3+ [email protected] #11
Build number CMP741E_0626_v2.0
i'm gonna try flashing the update and see if its newer or worse
do not flash using stock from craigs website! It will make your unit hang on the Android screen. Looks like the OP figured out how to get his unit back with touch controls based on his post on the androidtablets forrum (search for cmp741e nandroid backup)
I have the same issue, but waiting for him to spell out the steps (seems like a few other people are also waiting on him to respond in that thread).
im in the same boat, i flash the stupid rom on the craig site...ive been able to get cwm on in various stages after flashing another slightly compatible rom using the same dumb phoenix tool but no support for touch so im still trying to figure how to get this **** to work right again and hopefully flash some cm9 or cm10 on it
heres my next try that i hope will work

Craig CMP741e is stuck in boot loop on the Android logo.
When I try to install or mount using adb cmd I get read only errors and I have tried almost everything to recover/reset the tablet. i opened it unplugged it, tried reset pinhole, hold vol+ power buttons, and phonixcard does not work.
I am able to get this tablet recognized with using the Android SDK bundle, but I do not how to use it really...I appreciate some help on how to do a hard reset or factory reset. i hear theres no key combo for this...i recorded whats going on inside during start up using andriod debug monitor... can i use that to somehow fix it?
delete the spaces in link.. its legit no spam its my problem i need a solution too, plz help

Dear XDA Members,
I´ve currently downloaded the software update which came out yesterday and my phone asked me if i wanted to update. I did so, and afterwards it rebooted straight into TWRP. I´ve tried several things like rebooting, mounting, erase dalvin cache etc. etc.,
In the end I also totally erased all files on my phone (which i believe was the most stupid thing I can do) and that´s why I am here right now:
I´ve got my LG G2 International version which has only TWRP on it.
My Question is now:
How can I get a custom rom on the internal memory? (Don´t really now how to work ADB Sideload)
How can I mount the device because it does not get recognised if I do the mounting within TWRP?
Literally every help is hiiiighly appreciated!

From the TWRP terminal command (from the Main Menu > Advanced) type:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
then hit Enter
type
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc
then hit Enter
Then reboot. If it doesn't fully reboot, you should be able to at least get to Download Mode to reinstall the stock firmware.

After download files install fastboot minimal pack.exe in your computer. Now copy update zip in computer/c/program file/minimal adb folder. Now open tablet setting scroll down about tablet open it. Tap 8 time on build version . you see development option in setting open it and mark usb debging.now open adb fastboot in window. Conect tablet to compute via usb.enter ADB REBOOT RECOVERY press enter.-now tab is restart in recovery mode now select adb sideload in tablet recovery (use volume button and power button for ok). type in adb ADB SIDELODE UPDATE.ZIP. press enter. File will automaticlly send to tablet and install
Now tablet is official ..........
No success
Tried twice using adb sideload with the update.zip file.

The device can be rooted by enabling developer and select USB debug on 1301 device. Installing and running ADB and Impact applications in windows; .
When the device reboots it defaults to factory settings with no root.:silly:

Guys, KITKAT is out for HP 7 Plus. I had successfully rooted the tablet on JB with no bootlooping issues but lost root when updated to Kitkat. Plz update your tablets and let us all work together in developing Custom ROMs and Recoveries.

Kitkat is available but it's flawed. Received "update -1" and left in recover mode until I rolled back.:silly:

No, it is not flawed. When you flash the zip the first time in recovery, it flashes your bootloader and recovery. Reboots into recovery again showing received update-1. Then choose the zip again. You have to do this 3 or 4 times. Keep on choosing the revovery zip again until it says completed.
Has everyone given up?
