Ok this might sound wierd, but I work for AT&T and have a Galaxy S II, and get my cell service for free.
But I am obsessed with the Droid Razr. I dunno what it is about that phone, but I really want it! But I am having trouble justifying to myself having to pay for Verizon service every month when I get my current AT&T service for free.
I was also looking at maybe getting an imported xt910, but what worries me is there wouldn't be any warranty in the USA if ya needed it. Plus the Verizon Razr is LTE and I live in an LTE area.
So I know this is a weird thread, but just curious to see if you guys thinks it's too crazy of a thing to do just for a phone? I stopped at Best Buy today again to play with the Razr, and spent about 30 minutes with it. There isn't a whole heck of a lot of difference between that and my GS2, but I am still drawn to the Razr.
I must be crazy.
You should stop drinking. Its making you crazy.

If you really like it that much, then just pick up the GSM xt910 version. Simple.
There will always be new phones coming... I wouldn't upset the apple cart too much just because of one particular device. I say stick with your free service which we all wish we had and find yourself a GSM RAZR as suggested above. LTE isn't worth making any huge jumps for...yet.
AT&T LTE is great too. Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket has a good dev community and is LTE =D Only problem being you need to be in one of...4 or 5 AT&T LTE zones.

You are crazy.
Don't switch from free service. My Verizon bill rapes me.
GS2 is a fantastic phone.

I have both Verizon and AT&T, and when I compare both bIll Verizon is a bit more expensive each month. They have more fees than AT&T. *shrug*
You must have been on shrooms while typing this.
Do what I did, buy a Motor Razr (Rogers Canada Version), unlock it, and throw your sim in it. I'm using at&ts $10 unlimited "dumbphone plan" and getting 7 megs down and 2 up. Its no Verizon 4G LTE but decent speeds for $10 with unlimited data is an ok trade off. Oh yeah and you can use the mobile hotspot app with the dumbphone plan as much as you want XD I used 10gb last month.

Good analogy.
Actually I was thinking the same thing.
But I'm still up in the air on whether to get the Verizon razr or an unlocked xt910 to use on att.
I'd be paying around $80 or so a month for Verizon. I probably spend three times that amount each month on just Starbucks. So if I just cut back on my coffee it would work out. Hehe

I am torn trying to decide whether it's a wise move to switch from T-mobile to AT&T to get the Note. I'd hate to switch then 1 month later the phone comes to T-Mobile. It pains me thinking about AT&T but I really want this phone. Using it on 2G won't work for me. Has anyone switched or are there other people that feel the same?
I replaced my Sensation with an AT&T Note hoping that we can get T-Mobile 3G working on it sometime soon. For the time being, it runs just fine. I am near WiFi 90% of the time anyway, and those LTE speeds aren't too shabby of a backup plan.
BTW, this phone is the best device that I have owned. Even with EDGE and Gingerbread, this is better than my previous combination of a Sensation running ICS and a Transformer Prime.
I am on the the boat... I am coming from Sprint... I wanted this phone so decided to give the 30 day trial a try... The data service is slower than the sprint service here at home... I'm running edge with at&t and its slooowww... But I love this phone... The screen is awesome... I describe it as having a 1080p tv.. I have the the galaxy sii and it feels like running 480 tv. its like night and day... Just my opinion...
If you are thinking about getting the note.. Try to get it at 50% off through the at&t website... Don't cancel your service with t-mobile... If you decide that your going to keep it then you can just port your number over to the note.. And they wont charge you if you do it before the 30 days...
Also if you keep it, and tmobile gets this phone in a few months... You can just pay the EFT of 325... and if you add the 150 you paid it comes out to 475 total for phone... thats good compared to what the retail price is... 699... just something to think about...

I was on TMOUS with my samsung galaxy tablet 7" with cell phone enabled, and rooted.
Switched to ATT for speed, and now I am using the NOTE, and it kicks all other cell phones I have had. love the screen and the response.
@towncop1978 Unfortunately, I have a family plan so ETF would be $650. Also, I tried the 50% off and for whatever reason it doesn't work with a family plan. Unless I was doing something wrong.
I think its worth the switch. That's what I did, I had the GS2 with T-Mobile and canceled my contract sold the GS2 on ebay and haven't looked back.

I switched from T-mobile to At&t for the G-Note. I have a Tmobile G2X and am test driving the At&t G-Note for 30 days. So far its a keeper. Unless T-mobile can pull a rabbit outta their hat and snag either the G-Note or the LG Optimus VU, its adios amigos
I switched I had the sensation which was aggravating after a while... at&t speed where I'm at is a bit faster than Tmobile's so I'm very happy

The Note is a great piece of hardware. AT&Ts HSPA+ speeds are surprising the heck out of me after using Verizon and Sprint 3G for the last year and a half.
If the SERVICE is good or better than what you have now, no reason not to switch! However, dont get caught up in the hardware if the network cant provide whats needed to keep it working. Just something to think about.

I switched from TMo to At&T about a week ago specifically for the Note. I loved my Vibrant, but it was ageing and I had to move on. I went from $50 for unlimited everything to paying twice as much for 450 min/unlimited txt/5g data. On the good side my company pays 75% of my bill so I'm still paying less then I was at TMo, I just miss not worrying about data usage. I never make phone calls so minutes I couldnt care less about. So far I'm happy with it, but would switch back in a heart beat if TMo released the Note on their network.
I came from Verizon had had the iPhone 4S been drooling for the note ever since I saw the international one then AT&T releases it good times got 30 days to decide but it's not looking good for the iPhone
Ive had my Razr since Dec and ive loved it. Im not a super user, as root is enough for me and I dont use custom ROMs. But still, everything with Moto has been frustraiting with bootloaders, ICS, ect.
I am also grandfathered in for unlim VZ data, as I typicalled use 25ish GB per month. Ive been worried about loosing it with a future upgrade.
Well it turns out that I have an upgrade at the end of this month... and the SIII is coming out (pre ordres start tomorrow). And Vz said you will keep unlim data if you preorder (supposed anyways):
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/06/0...erizon-and-you-keep-your-unlimited-data-plan/
http://www.droid-life.com/tag/galaxy-s3/
The SIII looks slick and I like some of the new features. Only thing I can think of right now is that it does not have HDMI, and I do use that a few times a month..
So if I chose to upgrade, Im sure I could sell my Razr for a couple hundred and basically pay for my upgrade. Or if I didnt like the SIII, i should have the 14 days to return it. Or if I didnt like it, I could sell it to another VZ customer who doesnt have an upgrade yet. I could make a little money and save them from paying full retail on it.
Really not sure what I wanna do right now.
comparision of some phones
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/06/0...credible-4g-lte-vs-galaxy-nexus-vs-razr-maxx/
I would be very careful about upgrading to the Galaxy S III. It uses a variation of the same radio set in the Galaxy Nexus, and the reception is *horrible* on that phone (compared to the Razr or Rezound). In many places, I had no data signal at all (-120dBm), but in those same places my RAZR Maxx and Rezound both have 2+ bars of 4G and -89dBm...which I realize is not the 4G signal strength, but the results are in the speeds.
Using the Nexus in places that I had 0 bars I'd have no signal (couldn't connect at all). Turn on the RAZR Maxx or Rezound and I connect with 2-3 bars of 4G and speedtests average around 4-7Mbps. Not awesome, but at least I have signal (and it's still faster than most 3G). That kind of compromise is a *big* one. I work close to the lake and have absolutely no data signal at work on the Nexus...yet I have a great signal all day long with my RAZR.
I'd say give it a shot and see how it performs, but make sure to pay attention to how strong of a signal you have.
Mo-to! Mo-to! Mo-to!

Then it's up to you to decide, man. The SIII also has a higher resolution screen, but I feel the Motorola screen is much more "natural looking"... Not to mention the SIII has a terrible design compared to the Razr.
Really though, look at what forum where you're asking this in.

My friend at work has the Nexus and his signal here is fine. As for what kind of signal i would get at home, well that could be a different story.
But they also just got the .04 update and it was supposed to fix some radio issues. He said he could notice a difference on it as well. Hopfully they didnt make the same mistake on the SIII

You know I don't work in the same place as your friend, right? lol Where *I* work, I get no signal at all in the Nexus...yet all of the other Verizon LTE phones get perfectly fine signal. It's a known problem with the Nexus radio (Samsung makes poor CDMA radios).
And that was on 4.0.4. I've had it for about 2 months already. The one going out now is the same one I've had. It did improve reception, but not at work.
If you don't use custom ROMs, why do you mind the bootloader?
My ex gets LTE on her RAZR Maxx while on my GNEX I Would get 3G. The Nexus does have a ****ty radio compared to the RAZR. Also the handoff between 3G and LTE is not that great even with the 4.0.4 radios.
SIII voice quality (outgoing) is HORRIBLE!! Call into someone's voicemail with both phones and record yourself reading a paragraph. Then listen to yourself. It's astonishing to me that people put up with such horrible outgoing quality.
+1 on the useless radio.
The SIII isn't branded as a "Nexus", so it's not a Google-pick. You'd just be buying another shackled phone... And if you're going to buy a shackled phone, buy one with a good radio.

Not sure if this means anything to you, but I just upgraded to a RAZR MAXX knowing full well the S3 is due in a week or so. For me cost was part of the issue as I was looking to do an upgrade while still keeping my grandfathered unlimited data plan. I am just 12 months into my contract and not eligible for a new subsidized phone, but apparently they are clearing stock of the MAXX as the HD is approaching and I got the MAXX for $199.
My only complaint is the yellowishness of the whites. I'm taking this one to the store tomorrow to see if I can get one with white whites. I'm using a color calibrator to increase the blues to get me a real white, but that seems to be a work around and not a fix.
Other than that I cannot get over the thinness of the phone even though this is the thicker of the two RAZRs. Very comfortable to use. I'm not a Blur fan, but I love Moto hardware. Great voice quality.

Yes I understand what you're saying, but you misunderstood what i was trying to get across.
Beings that my friend at work has the Nexus and gets good service... I too would get good service there... but idk about at home. Its just one of the major places i would be on my phone the most. If the S3 will have the same radio, well then it should work fine at work for me.

What phone did you upgrade from?
Since ive already got the regular Razr, I fell like it would be a waste of money to spend my upgrade on a Maxx. You can buy the conversion kits for like $127 shipped (last time i checked anyways) with everything you need.
I moved to an area where Verizon doesn't have service...and as much as I have loved my time with them and I love my Droid X...I have to move on.
A friend of mine sells Sprint, and he "guarantees" them to work here...he has also told me I have 14 days to prove him wrong.
Everyone here recommends AT&T.
I'm willing to give Sprint a try because:
-Unlimited data.
-Cheaper monthly plan.
-19% employer discount (on voice only)
-HTC EVO 4G LTE.
None of the AT&T phones really "light my fire", am I missing something? Maybe the Galaxy III.
As far as my requirements for a phone:
-Good dev support, I bought my X near the twilight of it's career. Support was awesome, but has all but dropped off in the past 6 months.
-Something that performs as well or better than my DX.
Give me your thoughts and opinions, and thank you in advance!
Also, I plan to sell my Droid X (not advertising). It's currently rooted, running Liberty 3. What is the best way to sell it and protect my privacy? Should I sell it rooted or SBF it back to NIB? What's a fair price for the DX, a decent condition Otterbox Commuter, 2 OEM batteries and two chargers for the batteries? I know it's an "old" phone, but I'm sure someone could use it.
Thanks again!
Personally I would go with ATT because even though you don't get unlimited data, I've found their service to be very reliable. And my story is switching from Verizon to Sprint to ATT.
If you want the cheapest service, then Sprint is probably your best option. But ATT is sneaking up on Verizon not only with their LTE network but also continuing to overhaul their 3G/4G HSPA+ service. In the last month alone on ATT my speeds have gone from around 2 Mbps down & 1 Mbps up to averaging 4 down & 2 up.
I don't have an LTE phone nor do I live in an area that has it (yet!) so if what you're going to be comparing are 3G speeds, check out ATT.
Also there is an article that PCWORLD ran last month on the big 4 provider's speeds on 3G and 4G of 2011 to the 3G and 4G of 2012. Very interesting piece as I wasn't expecting ATT to boost their 3G speeds so much while continuing to build an LTE network.
As for phones on their network, i'll admit they are a bit weak right now but I've got a Moto Atrix 2 (switched from the 1st version) and i love it. I am interested in getting a Galaxy when i get the chance as their screens look gorgeous.
Thats just my 2 cents!

Very helpful. The main thing holding me back from AT&T is phone selection...Atrix 2 and Galaxy III are really the only two contenders and I think the EVO is leaps and bounds ahead of them.
3G is more important to me right now...I'm just concerned about the next two years...I don't want to be hung with a phone that's outdated as soon as I get it.
The difference in price is probably about $5-10 a month, so I can deal with that.
I hear you on phones soon getting outdated. You definitely don't want to go the atrix route then because it's been around the block.
The EVO is an awesome phone. I had it with Sprint and liked it but when their coverage and data speeds in my area began to get bad, I got out.
I feel like you're looking for the 2 exactly right things in a phone; future proofing and just plain comfortability with the device.

I'm stuck between the HTC EVO 4G LTE and the HTC One X....opinions, the One X doesn't have an SD slot....
Play store nexus. Try at&t and t mobile and see which you like better.
I'd get the nexus from the play store for 399.99 and get AT&T/T-Mobile depending on the area you live in and what coverage you need, check coverage maps first, if T-Mobile has 4G in all areas you go, get that, its faster than AT&T in major cities.
edit: the SGS2 is better than the gnex, the SGSIII is better than the HTC One X

T-mobile is definitely out...doesn't work where I work. The Galaxy Nexus is tasty though. Thanks for the idea...I'll check out AT&T.
Apparently smart phone junkie like me will not miss such major events of the year, the release of HTC One AND the release of Galaxy S4.
I describe this syndrome similarly to girls buying shoes/handbags etc, only cheaper, and more useful.
So I cheated on my Verizon Galaxy Note II, Jumped to AT&T HTC One --- for a day.
A few conclusions,
1. The HTC One does have great screen. You have to admit 468 ppi beats 260 ppi easily and your eyes can ACTUALLY tell the difference.
2. HTC One seems to be faster. Maybe it is just because this is the new device. Normally almost every android device I used in the past will slow down overtime. I am not sure why.Maybe too many apps running.
3. AT&T 4G LTE network, once connected, is so much faster than Verizon's LTE in New York City. I say this without reservation, even I am a long term VZW customer with their unlimited 4G plan with free Hotspot feature, I still can't fight for this point. ATT's 4G LTE is just faster than VZW in NYC. Full Stop.
Caveat? once you are CONNECTED. if you are in outer boroughs of NYC, or other parts of NY State, or some place in NJ, (maybe you home), you may not be covered under their LTE. then that's why nightmare begins. Bad voice signal, slow network etc, all usual AT&T craps will come back.
Deal Breaker:
1.. I realize something overtime, after trying HTC One-X , Droid DNA, The slimmest phone - Moto Razr (first version), I realized that if you used your phone on a daily basis, the Look gets Tired. And Battery and Functions becomes more and more important.
Good looking can get an "one-night" stand , sorry for the analogy, but not a long term marriage.
2. Related to No.1, if you sacrifice battery life, storage in sd card for good looking, you will end up with an impulsive fling , and regret for the next of 2 years. Or jump to some other devices at full price.
Stay with our Galaxy Note 2. If you value the coverage of your network, Stay on Verizon too.
Have fun guys!
Good points. I know a lot of us pay a pretty price being on Verizon. But you can't beat there coverage. Hands down. They are the best all around. Even though, Verizon doesn't get all the exclusive phones out there. I am so glad I traded my DROID Dna for my Note 2 I got about 1 week ago. I am so happy with it. It does everything I need to but faster than my s3 and dna. And you can't beat the battery life on this phone. It's comparable to the Razr Maxx from a battery standpoint. Love this phone.
