ViPER4Android is just amazing experience for music lovers and greatly improves performance of our DAC. Original thread in Development and Hacking / Android Software Development received more than three million views and OP @zhuhang did amazing presentation in first couple posts. You got to be rooted and have SuperSU and BusyBox on your G2. It's reported that SuperSU plays nicely with ViPER4Android and Superuser could have some difficulties.
App will install drivers for you and make sdcard/ViPER4Android/Kernel folders in your main storage. Follow instructions from the app. Basically, just pick desired audio quality / battery consumption. Reboot. If ViPER4Android folders are not automatically created, see EDIT at the bottom of this post.
In sub-folder named Kernel extract IRS files from attachment (at the bottom of this post) or downloaded Starter Pack from OT. Reboot again. In order to see Convolver / Impulse Response (IRS) files, go to UI Setting and choose Expert option.
I removed some IRS files from original starter pack and cherry picked some more free IRS files from other packs.

Most music players work with default Normal setting. If you're still on Jelly Bean (4.2.2) and have problems with Google Play Music or stock LG Music Player playing local mp3's with headphones or thru speaker you'll need to edit build.prop files. Instuctions in post #218;

If you have problems with driver installation when upgrading V4A to a newer version and V4A asks you to install drivers again and again, follow instructions in post#594 and #596;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52053808
... or much simpler solution is to flash one of @guitardedhero zips. I tested a few and they work great. I'm using his zips for all my phones... I'll keep testing his zips with each update so I'll update post #783 accordingly.

For KitKat users, who want to install V4A as system app, @reas0n wrote simple instructions... In addition, there are instructions on how to manually edit build.prop file if needed.

Wow, I'm definitely looking forward to trying this out. How did you find out about it? Can you change settings on the fly? I read some of the main thread, the auditory calibration sounds awesome, since my ears are different and I have trouble hearing high frequencies. That says coming soon for that feature, but damn this guy knows his stuff!

I StumbleUpon it. LOL. Yes, you can change settings on the fly. So much to explore and experiment. Don't be afraid to change some settings but be careful with volume control. Start with 40% and don't go over 50% in first couple of hours because some combination of settings will give you volume boost up to 8dB. Maybe even 10dB boost. I set speaker settings with 8dB boost so watching YouTube videos with 30% volume feels weird at first. Still exploring. Probably it will take days before I become familiar with every option.
This is just what the doctor ordered! Hope it works with BLUETOOTH.

Hello,
Please help me to find the music player I'm looking for. My requirements:
- A clean playlist (no artists, no genres, no album arts, no ratings, no lyrics, JUST FILENAME)
- An equalizer
- To be controlled by the handsfree button (play/pause and next track by double-click. More clicks - highly appreciated)
The closest to this idea of mine, which I was able to find, is tiny player. I liked it a LOT, but it doesn't have any equalizer...
And I have tried so many other players and they are TERRIBLE, especially starting with winamp, which I like so much for
PC!!! The Android's version is absolutely not acceptable for me!

Hello and thanks for your answers. But all of them are connected to Cyanogenmod.
I would like to install it, I even checked their page. BUT I'm afraid that I could screw
up my phone and/or lose my warranty.
Please recommend a normal installable app.

Hello and thank you!
I gave it a try today and it doesn't work at all :-/ It didn't show me even a single folder !!!
I see the message select a folder or whatever on the top and everything below is black!!
I'm gonna send an e-mail to the developers to report this bug.
Trying to download this, I found another player - EZ folder player free. It works very
nicely with my headset button, but it doesn't show the playlist and doesn't have an
equalizer...
Actually it makes me VERY SAD and VERY DESPERATE - WHY all the music players
need to have a huge icon showing NOTHING in the center and wasting the whole screen ?!?!?!?!
WHY there can't be a program, showing the playlist, as Winamp on a PC and 3 buttons
for play/pause, next and previous song? IS IT SO COMPLICATED ?!?!? And an
equalizer, of course!! Come on, guys, this is Winamp from 1993 !!! And in 2012, this
doesn't exist anymore !!!
My device is Samsung Galaxy S2 with ICS (4.0.3).
OK, regarding Music Folder Player - I can not see folders only with the paid version of this app.
I have also tried to install the free version and it works. I have also installed Music Volume EQ:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hr.podlanica&feature=search_result
This is a MUST have app!! It has an extremely nice bass boost function and now listening to
music is a really nice experience on my SGS2.
So, back to Music Folder Player - this is the player, which I will be using for now. It is by far
not perfect, but it seems to be quite working. Major disadvantages:
- it plays folders only at one level - if you have a folder that contains mp3 files and subfolders
with more mp3 files, it will play only the lower level folder. If you select some of the subfolders,
it will play only the subfolders, but never the parent folder. REALLY annoying, but not fatal
- It writes media information files to EVERY directory with music
- The equalizer does not change almost anything and it is practically useless. But this can be
solved via Music Volume EQ, so it is a really minor problem.
But it is a very customizable player and I like it a lot! Nevertheless, I am more and more
convinced, that the perfect mp3 player for Android does not exist yet
Although, there a some players in the style I like - Music folder player, EZ music folder
player, tiny player, etc... There must be also more of them. Please suggest some...
Come on, guys!! No other cool apps? I can't believe it...
I am using kamma's folder player. It supports rom's native equalizer app. UI can improve a little but pretty much suffices what I need.
Best Music Player
hi,
Try this one i am sure you would not search for anything else.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.omichsoft.player
It supports Playlists, folders, genres, artists, albums and songs list.
Supports device internal equalizer.
shows itself on the Lockscreen.
and all this for an installation size of around 350 kb.
difficult to justify some (most) paid music players against this one.

Viper4Android works fine on Gingerbread, as long as you use the v2207. Any version above that only works on JB.
If you want, I´ll upload you that version tomorrow...

(NOTE: XHIFI never made the sound on my phone better, so this is originally for the FX version, even though it works also with XHIFI. Anyway, the FX offers the most options and best sound effects )
1. Extract the apk onto your sdcard
2. copy it to /system/app
3. Reboot
4. Open Viper4Android FX
5. Grant SU permission
6. Install drivers
7. Reboot
After that, you can customize the settings to what sounds best!
Oh, and don´t use the convolver, it either makes your phone laggy or initialises "akward restarts" .

Have you ever tried Mixzing music player 2.7.1? The EQ of mixzing is good, but don't know if better than Viper4Android in Quality.
Does this Viper4Android make music play with more quality? By quality i mean the sound is sweeter and the vocals are higher 'because normally without EQ vocals can hardly be heard, specially on rock songs'.
I tried many apps but none has made vocals become Clear and High to be heard good.
is Viper4Android worth the try for this?. If yes, can you show me your settings to achieve such good sound 'you can take a screenshot and put it here'?
Thanks btw

I did it all, well the effect was a little bit aggressive for my earphones xD but i changed it a little bit so there is no problem xD.
The sound looks like it become a bit more 'rich', but never more 'clear', so i guess there really is no way to make the vocals sound clear and high xD. Anyway i'll keep your effect 'modified' and test it more days, at least the sound being more 'rich' is also an improvement i think xD.
Thanks bro

i don't see any option with the name 'clear audio', so i supposed that was on XHIFI version, i installed it but there's no option with that name either :S xD. What is the real name of the option you're talking about? xD.
After testing today the yesterdays effect of viper4android, i noticed that audio actually got a bit worse and not rich :S , and if i use your headphone effect 'so much bass' then the vocals are even lower than normal :S . So maybe that Clear Audio thing you mentioned can solve this problem i think xD.
Ps: i'm using 2207 fx version. when i installed xhifi 2100 version the option Audio Reconstruction is very very laggy in the sound when Enabled 'looks like the sound is having hiccups all the time xD', i don't know what the f... is happening with this ViperFx thingy xD, having good sound quality is a total Headshot xD.

As said before, the audio profile I posted works best on versions above 2208. When not used on versions above that, the options 'viper bass' aand 'viper clarity' aren't available, which basically defeats the reason to use that profile.
Sorry, mate, the option I meant was viper clarity...

I knew the name was wrong xD. Yes i saw that but you also said that versions above only work on naa-06 kernel and if i'm not wrong there still isn't any rom completly Stable on that kernel , so i guess that viper4android will have to wait because a stable rom is more important than increasing audio quality :S . I tried version above 2207 and the result really was strange bootloops and i had to Restore a Backup of the Rom on CWM :S . But thanks anyway bro .
Ps. Well, i started another thread in this Help section xD, it's about the Text Selection, if you know how to solve my question about this let me know in the thread bro.
Cheers
Viper4android makes the sound so much better when listening to music on my stereo system, through my phone. However, it seems to only work about 1/3 of the time. Sometimes it will be working, then I'll select a new album to listen to, and it no longer works... And vice versa. Sometimes it just will not work at all, even after a reboot. It's just completely random. I'm running it on a VZW Galaxy S4 with the Hyperdrive Rom installed. I would love to figure out how to get it to work 100% of the time.

Sound boost for all US Note 3 variants. You must have a snapdragon cpu. Will not work on octacores. This is the highest volume boost that is still considered safe. You should not experience any clipping or washed out sound.
Installation:
×Flash via gordon flasher here is the app

I'm using ViPER 4 Android FX (2.3.0.1). It doesn't work with the stock Samsung music player, but does work with Power Amp and some music formats in Google Play Music. With the ViPER app, you can change volume boots on-the-fly and other bass and EQ settings.

Can you tell any significant difference in the max volume when using sound "mods" like this?
What kind of difference can you see in the following scenarios:
1.) Stock Sound --> THIS Mod instead?
How about those of you that have been running Viper?
2.) Stock Sound --> Viper Mod ??
3.) Viper Mod --> THIS Mod instead ?

I'm using viper from the playstore and it works great for my music. I work in a factory and plug my 3.5mm head jack into a kicker stereo. The phone speaker it's self seems loud enough for me. No to knock this sound mod at all but I favor the eq in viper. Just my opinion. The only downside of viper is I have to greenify it when I'm done using it.

From what I've noticed about Viper is that it doesn't work with every music app.
It doesn't work with the Samsung music player.
It will work with the Google Play Music app with wav (flac encoded) files, but not MP3s.
It will work with Power Amp will all files, but the Power Amp trial app I downloaded can't see my wav/flac files for playback.

I have only been using it for a few days but my understanding is that replaces the stock DSP manager once you install the driver and select it in Settings > Music Effects, so the sound effect *should* be global and affect all music sources. I do not use the Samsung music app, and I do not store MP3s locally. I had some, but many of them must be inferior rips because they sounded flat or distorted no matter what EQ settings I used. I finally decided to try Google All Access, and I am glad I did. Using the highest quality stream and ViPER4Android, it sounds 100x better than my ipod.

The easiest way to know if Viper is working, is that when you are playing music, to go into the Viper app and uncheck the enable box at the top. If you hear the music volume/sound change, then you know it was working, and you can re-check the box.
I know that it doesn't work at all with the Samsung Music app.
On the Google Play Music, it does work with WAV( (FLAC encoded) files, but not MP3s. I don't have the "Google All Access" subscription, so I can't verify if Viper works with it.
Since my MP3s weren't sounding too good while using Viper, I got all my CDs and did them as WAV (FLAC), and copied it over the microSD card (but took about 21GB of space). But it does sound much better than the MP3 rips I did of these CDs many years ago.

I tried that while streaming Google Music, and it definitely makes a difference. I have no MP3s or FLACs to test with the Samsung Music app, so I have no idea if V4A effects will translate through that app.
Since using V4A and Google Music Service, I have heard new musical details (instruments as well as front/rear speaker isolation) on songs that I thought I knew very well. This is most likely due to the poor quality of my MP3s, rather than V4A or the quality of Google Music, but it was a nice surprise regardless. If you have not tried Google Music Service then I highly recommend it, especially if you are surrounded with solid 4G or WiFi. The first month is free. It's not on the same level as FLAC, but it will probably be a step up from MP3.

I downloaded the FX 2.3.1.1 version from the xda thread instead of the unofficial market link because (1) the market link is in Chinese, and (2) I wanted to make sure I got the latest release. Install it like any other apk, go to Settings > Sound > Music effects and select ViPER4Android. You will be prompted to install a special driver, so do that. Reboot, then open "ViPER4Android" in the app drawer, and tweak to your liking. Then play some tunes and adjust EQ and other options as needed. The effects are much more pronounced via the audio jack rather than the speakerphone.

I'm using 2.3.0.1 and it "automatically" installed the driver, as the one from the Play Store had a list of drivers, and I wasn't sure which one to use.
Does the 2.3.1.1 also automatically install the driver?
Edit: Updated to 2.3.1.1 without problem.
If you're like me and finally got V4A running successfully but didn't hear it affecting the actual audio output then try this script I used to use on my LG G4 successfully. Alternatively you can DOWNLOAD the script I exported, and import it using the app of your choosing. I recommend using ROM Toolbox.
Here's a quick step-by-step of how I got V4A running on my rooted Verizon LG V10 for those of you who like that sort of thing.
1. Go into SuperSU and disable namespace separation in SuperSU.
Thanks to gerry_753 for this tip.
2. Reboot.
3. Download and install this BusyBox by JRummy and install BusyBox into both system/bin and system/xbin.
4. Reboot.
*5. Download and install SELinuxModeChanger.
*6. Open SELinuxModeChanger and change the SELinux Mode to: Permissive.
7. Download the latest Viper4Android and install it.
8. Open V4A app and install the driver.
9. Reboot.
10. Open ROM Toolbox and make sure to give it Root permission.
11. Scroll down and select Scripter
12. Hit the + at the top and select Import
13. Find the Viper4Android_Script you downloaded and click it.
14. Now click the Viper4Android_Script and select Set at boot
15. Reboot.
*Indicates steps I didn't take to get mine to work, but others have had to take in order to get it to work.
Still haven't noticed a big increase...but things look correct after running the script.
The script didn't work for me
add app to system priv/app
Thank you.

THANK YOU!. These specific apps and these specific instructions worked perfectly the first time.
I can tell the difference and it's great. Still can't quite make out the difference with the LG HD Dac drivers, or whatever it's called. seems to help a little too...maybe I have to research how to fine tune that, if possible.
Thanks again.
Got everything installed and ran your script. Much like the picture above it says it's installed but it's NOT prcoessing. I can use the equalizer app from the market and that works fine but viper is still a no go. Such a disappointment.
I tried everything, installed busy boxes, have it permissions, paid 5 bucks to get the full version of toolbox to add program as a system app. Restarted i don't know how many times. Almost as painful as getting to work on my old fascinate was.... Any thoughts?

Looks like its a music app thing, I use Spotify primarily which doesn't like to work with 99% of equalizers.
Viper4Audio DOES work with local audio as well as googly player and others the same that the HIFI DAC does. That doesn't work with spotify either and its a known thing. Basically I can trick the phone for a single song by playing a song in google music's app, then changing immediately to spotify. But after the song is over it stops amping the audio. So the issue is spotify isn't taking advantage of the audio on its own. I think they need to fix this because spotify was the only reason I stopped downloading music. But seriously, I'd pirate my whole music list again just to have it usable in the player with viper.
So as far as I can tell spotify users you are still SOL. I recommend "Equalizer" from the market place as it does work. /wrist

What do you have enabled? (Obviously) Make sure V4A-FX Powered on is Enabled, then below is the settings I've found work best for me:
Firequalizer: Enabled
Select Preset: Rock
Dynamic System: Enabled (Left everything else alone)
ViPER Bass: Enabled
Bass Mode: Natural
Frequency: 60Hz (Sometimes 80Hz)
Bass Boost: 6.0 dB
ViPER Clarity: Enabled
Mode: Natural
Clarity: 3.5 dB
CureTech+: Enabled
Binaural Level: Slight
Anything with built in equalizers (like PowerAmp) will often muddle the effects of V4A. There's ways around this. But I use purely Spotify these days and have noticed vast improvements using V4A now.
Also, if ever want to dabble with Convolution, Viper has a great IRS starter pack and explanation on his site. Supposedly you can bypass all my above settings by using just one IRS sample. But I've usually used them in combination with.

I can confirm on my end that V4A works with Spotify (at least via Bluetooth). It's the only player I use and there's a HUGE noticeable difference when playing a song on Spotify and enabling and disabling V4A.

Yeah it works on bluetooth great which is unfortunate because my car isn't bluetooth, nor do i want it to be. On the other size the DAC fix makes it work on heapdhone jack and that can be used with equalizer app from the market so I still have that. It's not viper4audio but really bluetooth is the only thing that really needed it. I'll accept that.
OP's instructions are spot on. Works with Tidal well. Thanks
What about youtube and system notifications/ring tones? I have viper4android working, but it only works for my music player. I'm hoping to get it to work system wide so I can tweak the horrible speaker when a notification comes through. Per this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65506006&postcount=3
He was able to get it to work system wide. I don't know of a way to flash a zip file without a custom recovery. I have viper4android as a system app and it's still not processing audio system wide.
I tried editing the audio file that edits the deep_buffer variable to allow v4a to work without headphones but it doesn't. BUT I don't think this is truthfully the case. On a fresh reboot upon opening spotify with headphones then playing a song and THEN opening viper, it gets HELLA loud for just a split second, which means that it did try to edit the live audio but failed and likely crashed. The question is, why? What exactly is going wrong with the headphone out on spotify. Literally the only app on the market that directly works with spotify is called Equalizer. I tried equalizer pro which is even better as far as mutliband control on a local player but it doesn't effect spotify either. Just Equalizer. So I'm curious what the hell that app is doing differently.
Thank you, it worked!
I created /system/su.d directory with execution permission, and added the shell script to that directory, with execution permission. In my system, the path to supolicy was different, and I corrected that. It worked like that.
Shortcut?
The only thing I needed to change was the selinux mode to permissive and V4A works perfectly now.
Hi there,
i hope I'm in the right section.
So long story short:
I have here a Sony Xperia Miro (mesona) and i found a almost fully working cm10 rom for this device.
I noticed it doesn't playback audio to bt devices.
Both ui sounds and media does play on the phone's speaker.
Inside a logcat it seems like it's connecting, enabling a2dp but then routing back audio to phone speaker.
I was wondering if it's possible to fix easily (maybe a bad config file?)
Do you guys have an idea.
It would be a perfect mp3 player if bluetooth audio works.
Thank you so far
Hey, I have the same phone. I stuck on ICS because of the same reason (bluetooth audio not working). What you can do, like I have done, is go to this site: https://shivangdave.com/roms/ via the wayback machine (go back as far as 2016 and pick any snapshot), and get AOKP kitkat. CM11 and Carbon (kitkat) roms are available, but they're slower and buggier than AOKP. You'll need to flash the boot.img from the AOKP zip via fastboot for the rom to boot, and voila! Everything except the camera and brightness slider works in this rom (you can fix brightness using lux lite), including bluetooth audio. And if you don't install GApps, and just sideload the apps you need, it's pretty smooth. It even works great for streaming from spotify and soundcloud, you just need patience. You can also use it as a podcast player.
EDIT: Sorry if I'm a bit late to the party.

Yeah you're too late
I also found the archived download website and got at least one of the builds to boot but since it has some bugs, i switched back to cm10 and had a deeper look into it.
And it's indeed a bad config file.
Don't remember which one i guess it was mixer_path.xml or the like.
So i downloaded a random cm10 build for another device and started comparing files.
In the end, i extracted the necessary file from the zip and throw it onto my device.
Guess what it's working!
If you're interested in the fix, i can take a look in the evening, i have everything on my pc in my personal CM/LineageOS archive for all my devices and some documentations aswell.

The zip file is not flashable! Extract the file and place it in the directory via file browser.
