Is it possible to port official WiFi hotspot setting to my xperia tablet z? Mine is WiFi only version, so it has no that setting by default.
You can't use the wifi version as a hotspot.

Why not? I know I can't share network like what I do on my 3g cellphone. But I just want to create an ad-hoc network so that we can play minecraft pe multiple players game.

the purpose of hotspot is to have Internet Sharing, not LAN

Maybe what you're tring to do is called Wi-Fi Direct? Try it, it is in settings.

Due to lack of SIM card, I know I can't share the internet connection. What I want to do is to create a LAN.
It is possible, right?
I havd tried to install on off tool from my Xperia V, and add a widget on desktop. I successfully turned on the WiFi hotspot, but I can't set something like SSID, Password.

hi...i usually connect my lg optimus 2x to PC with USB and use computer's internet connection (reverse USB teethering). but i want to know if its possible to force telephone that it thinks that it is connected to wi-fi, while using 3g data connection. i want use that especially when games want to download data over the wifi...
If your device is rooted, you could get a wireless hotspot app from the market, start the hotspot on your phone, then connect to it (connect your device to itself ).
I don't think you can connect to your own hotspot.

tried but its not working..i think that androids dont support wifi multitasking like iphones do,so they cant receiving and teethering connection at the same time..

Actually you can. I've said that before to other people who wanted to download gameloft data and for some other purposes which require wifi, and it worked.
I want to do this too.... but the Mobile Hotspot app on my phone turns off WiFi if it is one, and if I turn on Wifi while Mobile Hotpsot is on, it disables the Hotspot.
Any other solution ? An app maybe ? A tweak ?
what wifi hotspot app was used?.. and to the OP, how did you reverse tether via usb?

You can use this to reverse tether: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371345.
On my desire you can have activated only wirelles or only hotspot, i think the same wirelles adapter is used for it, so it wouldnt be possible.

How? I've been searching for a workaround to this for some time now.
Please tell me how...
I have a rooted Bionic, Eclipse ICS 4.0.4. I use FoxFi Full version for my hotspot. I need my phone to connect to the mobile hotspot it's currently transmitting. (I think that's what I need)
Why? I want an advanced ability to monitor who is using my mobile hotspot, using DroidSheep to monitor what they're using the connection for. Trouble is, DroidSheep (And al similar programs) only work if the phone (with the app) is actually connected to the wifi network. It won't work if it's the one transmitting the signal.

You just have one wifi Modul it can be a hot spot or it can be connected to a Router.
Both together isn't possible.
Else you could also use it as wifi repeater
Tapatalked with my JellyBean powered HTC Desire
I need to do the same thing i do with connectify but in my phone, i connect to the web with my wifi and share internet with the same wifi adapter.
i been looking into it for a while and people keep on say that i need 2 widi adapter for it but is SO no true coz i have and use only 1... I don't wanna use bluetooth at all or connect it with usb.
If anybody knows of an app that does this magic please let me know.
Thanks.
Have you tried wifi tether?

Thanks for the reply.
I havent find a tethering app that let me share my wifi connection over the same wifi adapter.
I am not looking to share my data plan by the way, Connectify work as a wifi repeater, so you log in to a wifi and the software let you share that same connection any way you like even simultaneously over the same wifi adapter.
I'm sure you have good reasoning, but why don't you connect the other device directly to the same wifi your phone is connecting to? are you trying to use your phone as a range extender?
If that is all you are doing, seems to me to be a waste of a good device.
You could go to dd-wrt.com, find the list of supported routers, then buy a cheap router that is supported and then flash that firmware. Then set up as needed.
I have been using that for years, except in wireless bridge mode.

I know this thread is super old...
one reason i have is open routers that need a login after connection. I have yet to get a repeater to work with one of these networks but connectify works as you connect your computer say yes i accept and then start sharing it.

You mentioned that the WIFI Repeaters donot work with Open Networks. Are you talking about "Wireless Repeaters and Range Extenders"? such as this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SQvaGEKOxc
fqrouter2 is the solution
Use fqrouter2 for rooted Android devices and you have a perfectly working WiFi Repeater (available free in Google Play Store)

Hello npg500, I installed the app you suggested but i am not satisfoed with it.
fqrouter doesnot "externds the range" of the WIFI. it just routes the internet connection though the Android phone it runs on (possibly by the MITM), keeping the routed device on the same network as it was before. i installed fqrouter to increase the signal strength from my Basement wifi. but no success. it shows my PC in the Scan area. but as mentioned it doesn't extends the Range.
Anynody having any idea what App can serve that functionality? Or Am I doing something wrong somewhere?
Anyone can suggest how to work this wifi repeater or extender mode on S5?
fqrouter is saying wifi is not supported on S5 but it does have MITM

Hello everyone, i am having a doubt regarding sharing of LAN connection. my college lab has got a high speed internet connection and often i do connect my laptop to access the internet through the LAN cable. I am just wondering if i can create a wi-fi hotspot in my lapy and use my grand quattro to use this hotspot. I tried some software like virtual router, connectify etc..but unfortunately none of them worked for me. by using these two software i was able to create the hotspot and even grand quattro was connected to the hotspot and wi-fi icon in the status bar was also blinking...but could not access the net..may be i was messing up with some settings:...any idea regarding this problem?:fingers-crossed: Any other method available?

The T-820 is wifi. Are you asking to use it to Tether to another device, or using it to connect to the Internet via your phone? If it's the latter, you go into wifi settings and select your phone to connect to. You can't use it to connect other wifi devices as the T-820 doesn't have a cellular connection.

sorry, I wasn't clear.
there's no mobile in my test setup.
right now I have the lg v20 connected to the router/adsl via wifi.
Next, I create and enable a wifi hotspot on the v20.
the tab s3 connects to the hotspot and, finally, to the internet.
conclusion: the v20 did not have to disable its wifi to launch the hotspot..
thanks
Maybe describe your use case. What are you planning to tether TO the tablet.
The LG has a tether option because it has a wireless chip. The Tab does not have such a chip.
Most android Wi-Fi hotspots will shut off the Wi-Fi radio and provide internet through your wireless carrier. It would be unusual (useless?) for a phone to share the Wi-Fi signal it's using.

My plan is to have an AP acting as an extender between the gateway and a wireless device beyond its reach or without a clear line of sight.
My testbed had the following setup:
router gateway )) (( lg v20 )) (( tab s3
Interesting, and I understand.

I tested succesfully the s8+ doing the same.
When using Share it to get pics from an iPhone (in the woods with no internet or Wi-Fi network) the SM T820 will not initialize a Hotspot. Is there a fix for this or an easy work around?

I don't think that will work. When you tether your 4G connection, Chromecast will connect to the Wi-Fi hot-spot that is created by the phone, while your Mate 10 pro is still connected in 4G.
So they are not connected on the same network as it's required for the Chromecast to work.

I have an old Chromecast here, so i will try, but i don't think it will work.
Maybe it would work with this configuration :
1) Mate 10 pro used for tethering, creating a Wi-Fi hot-spot
2) Chromecast connected to the Wi-Fi hot-spot
3) Laptop (or other device) connected to the same Wi-Fi Hot-spot
But honestly, i never tested this kind of configuration.

i solve today!
1) open google home on android phone, tap on chromecast settings, disconnect from wifi;
2) on android phone, let's active hotspot with wpa2 password;
3) re-open google home, add device; tap on chromecast, connect chromecast to the wifi hotspot net.
Now you can stream phone on mobile net, directly on chromecast.
