For some reason I can't get these to look good on my note 10.1. Anyone know if the 2014 edition will allow you to have two different backgrounds? one for portrait and one for landscape?

You want to match the resolution
You bought a premium device with an abnormally high resolution screen. The screen resolution is 2560 x 1600. In a forum specifically for the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) we should only have wallpaper sized for this screen, to show off every dollar we have spent. I've found a bunch on paperwall.com. You can filter for this screen resolution on that site. Does anyone know of other sites like this? I'd love to find some "old paper" backgrounds for SNote as well, at this resolution.

Actually, we need an even higher resolution than that cause of the way wallpapers work on android. The problem is, I can't find any that are high enough of a resolution to look good in portrait and landscape. Does anyone know the resolution of the wallpapers that come with the device?

Is anybody working on getting the Camera from the S3 to work on our Notes? Could anbybody update me on this situation? Would LOVE to be able to use that. Would completely COMPLETE the note experience to the fullest! I take LOTS and LOTS of pictures so this is an extreme interest for me!!! (btw I looked around about it and haven't found anything much about this surprisingly)
Are you talking about a hardware swap? or are you talking about the software? and what are the differences in both? Pardon my ignorance
Sorry not to specify. The apk basically is what I am talking about to simplify it. Looking for the whole no shutter lag experience.

This would be almost impossible, as it would need the Galaxy s3's hardware and framework.
If this is impossible, then is there an alternative? I just would like yo be able to snap photos faster with at least the same quality as the Note has now..

Sure about that? I'm pretty sure that's software related. There are plenty of apps (fast burst, camera FX, etc) that do no shutter lag and fast burst sequences.

Your never gonna be able to do that and have the same quality photos. The faster the shutter speed is the more quality suffers but there are several apps that let you take pictures in burst but most will tell you that quality will suffer. Search "fast burst camera" in the Play Market. Also there are several videos of the Note and S3 head to head and you can see the Note takes a much better picture eventhough they both have 8MP cameras cause the shutter speed on the Note is slower which means better quality.

He is right. The camera hardware is upgraded with a different shutter. The burst mode is software but a different shutter is used so that the photos still keep some of the quality they lose from the burst sequence and so the shutter will be consistanly opening at the same speed no matter what mode the camera is set to. Meaning the picture quality will be the same in burst sequence and normal mode, while on the Note the quality is different when taking fast burst pictures than it is when taking a normal picture.
EDIT: NEW NAME!
This device is now called the Galaxy S Relay 4G. See post #10
Just wanted to get a little discussion going for this device. It has potential to be the next(last?) great QWERTY slider phone. I couldn't find a forum for new phones, so my apologies if this is the wrong place.
Anyway, the talk right now is that this device is going to drop August 15th on T-Mobile USA. Rumored specs include:
~ 720p screen (more likely 800 x 480- see post #8 on this thread)
~ S3 or S4 dual core 1.5ghz processor
~ 1 GB RAM
~ 16 GB internal phone storage
~ Android 4.0
~ 5 megapixel camera
I'm praying the SOC really is S4, with that these stats could put it extremely high-end for a QWERTY slider phone.
Oh, and I forgot to mention: It's a 5-row keyboard.

What do you guys think? Anyone out there who, like me, salivate over the possibility of a true high-end QWERTY slider device?
Here's a link to the latest news article on it:
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/08/samsung-galaxy-s-blaze-q-press-shot-hints-at-release-date/
I might be interested if it has a removable battery and SD slot. That is making me lean away from HTC when my contract is up in a year unless they change from the One series designs. I haven't had a slider in a while, I have to feel it in my hand and see if the slide action is tight or loose and try to gauge how it might feel a year or two later.
Id love this phone. Always wanted a Captivate Glide but this blows its Tegra 2 out of the water.
Only problem is, with QWERTY sliders going out of the market, there is less and less development and support from the manufacturers.
For normal consumers, this isn't a problem. It has ICS (Captivate Glide will get ICS) but really, probably not many ROMs, Samsung will stop updates fairly quick, etc.

Well, I did a little calculation based on the dimensions of the phone listed in the FCC documentation (125mm x 65mm) as compared to the screen-to-bezel ratio in the press shot. Based on my calculation, the screen size is 4 inches. This pretty much debunks the screen being 1280 x 720 unless Samsung introduces a new kind of screen- the smallest 720p screen in a previous Samsung phone is the Galaxy Nexus at 4.65 inches. And ALL previous Samsung phones that had either a 4 or 4.3 inch screen were 800 x 480. I don't see Samsung debuting a new kind of screen for this phone
Damn. That's a big blow for me. I was really hoping for a better screen. And I gotta say, if there's no 720p screen, I bet the processor is S3 as well. Sadly, even with these specs this phone will be the best QWERTY slider on T-Mobile, so I'll probably still get it. But damn, I really had my hopes up for higher specs there for a minute
I suppose it's possible I made a mistake or am wrong about whether there would be a 4-inch 720p screen(there's still a user agent screenshot out there showing the T699's screen is 1280 x 720), but I doubt it. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
It's the 15th and no word yet on this phone.
No word on why the original release date was missed, but the name of the device has now "changed" to Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G. Kind of a lame name, but I'm still holding out hope for a decently-spec'd handset.
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/08/new-training-docs-correctly-identify-t-mobiles-newest-qwerty-device/
Also no word on a new release date yet, but it can't be more than a few weeks away ...
If this phone had the Wolfson DAC: I would've been interested. However I've yet to see a Snapdragon phone isn't a SoC so I'm not holding my breath there.
Thanks to some images found in the Q&A section of Samsung's website, we have confirmation that there's a FFC, the rear camera has a flash, and there's an LED notification light(not always a given with Samsung)!
... Okay, I know it's not much, but it's something, right? Damn it this phone needs some real confirmed specs already
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/08/a-full-360-degree-view-of-the-galaxy-s-relay-4g-emerges/
I was wondering what is the best DPI for my Galaxy Note 2, I tried other people's suggestions but it didn't work for me so I was wondering how Google decided on their DPI. Considering they're in charge of Android they must know the optimal level so I used the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 4 as reference:

So if Google designed a 5.5 inch screen device with 720x1280 resolution, it would most likely be at 270 DPI
I know this won't help a lot of you how it helped me but just thought I'd share it just on the hunch that it might at least help the 1% :silly:

I keep my phone a variable amount of inches from my eyes usually, but usually close to 11 inches, it gives the display a pseudo retina effect. You see the Note 2's actual physical PPI is 267.02, which means for it to be " retina " you'd have to hold it 13 inches away or farther to be unable to distinguish between pixels. At 220, 13 inches away from my eyes, in the gmail app, I squint
But damn I want your eyes O.O LOL
Normally using an AOSP rom with tablet mode I'll run between 220 and 240 depending on the day (230 seems to be perfect).
Lately I've been using a TW based rom with screen expansion enabled and 270 seems to be the sweet spot.

270 DPI isn't tablet mode. It's still phone layout so no FC's, it runs everything perfectly besides the dialer being just a tad bit to the left. You really gotta give it a try

What's some good setting for tab mode...I think this phone would look awesome in tab mode with there was a tab ROM for this I know they have one for another note 2 but its not working for rs since we have lte an they ported it from the galaxy 10.1 tabtab
I keep mine in 260 dpi. I think 240 would be just as easy to use (and I do use it for some apps) but I still want to be able to just glance at my phone and instantly be able to take in all of the information. This is especially useful while driving or doing other things that mean I can't focus my attention on the phone.
Did someone found a difference in sharpness and noise(high ISO) between AOSP and Stock based roms? I have the sensation of some kind of blurred images when i use AOSP ...
Thanks!
stock camera takes better images, yes
images will blur if you've not got a steady hand. Its more apparent to me on aosp cameras

Hmm disagree there. Yes, the stock AOSP maybe, but once you use the modded one with ultrapixel, you'll wonder why everyone thinks the Sammy camera is better (until you get into low light or if you have Parkinsons or something)

There are literally no bad cameras, AOSP or not, only bad photographers. I mean, the One doesn't have the best camera around but there are some awesome shots to be taken with it, if you're a master photographer.
All phone cameras have their own issues. Its hardware mainly. Compare the s3 camera to almost any dedicated compact of the same "on paper" specs and you'll see.
Oems just can't afford to make the phone camera that good. With the S3, its low light. With the Xperia T its the flash....
That said, you can get some good shots with them. Its just the tolerance on the perfect conditions is much smaller than a compact.

Does the use of 3º party software changes anything?
I say this because i use for photos "Camera FV-5" software...and i think is sometimes much better than stock one (at least has more options).
Using Last Sentinel Rom.

Yes. I Love SlimKat and SOKP (also CM11 with my previous phone), BUT the picture quality is worse compared to stock sammy roms. Fully working HDR mode is not easy in AOKP roms.
Hello everybody,
Can you please tell me which custom ROM I should install to get the best camera (photos&videos) experience?
I´m running LiquidSmooth right now and although I have great battery and high customisation, photos and videos aren´t really that great, specially comparing to the original Samsung ROM the phone came with.
Can you please help suggesting me some other options?
Thank you all!

I like the Lg G5 massively over the note 7 just for the wide angle camera alone. Keeping the phone screen on while looking at it is possibly the worst gimmick ever.

I wish it did have the screen stay on feature when watching a video on Facebook or whatnot where you gotta move the screen once in a while to stop it from dimming. Yeah the note 7 was a failure and it also was a slow phone (Snapdragon model) but this phone having the same chip runs a lot better. Must be better optimized. The note 7 cam does beat the main cam on this phone tho, it also took HDR pics super fast. Pros and cons to everything.

No, I love the G5
Let's get this clear the G5 has the face down silence option, and if it's packed with features, u just have to look for them in the settings, and beside all that the wide angle lens is the most innovative camera feature ever on a smartphone, what would u do if u had a pixel ?
Coming from Motorola, Lenovo, and Huawei phones, and just looking at stock settings on the G5, I'm pretty impressed by what LG included. Just to be able to change global font and theme without root would've been revolutionary to me not that long ago. Granted, the LG store is relatively young/limited -and I've no idea where it will go- but it's a promising starting point. 360 wideangle live wallpaper with wideangle camera lens to make your own (eventually), drag-and-drop touch button settings, multiwindow, shortcut key commands, as small a detail as battery percentage preference... Many of these things we're used to as root mods, and in that sense they may be boring, but to have them as part of the stock basis makes me look forward to expansions of customization in the not-too-distant future, if not by LG in their store, then by the enthusiasts in this realm. It's encouraging, far from boring!
