My incredible is seriously on its last legs, and I have to move off of it. The rezound seems to have its share of problems, but the nexus is still m.i.a.
So ... For those of you with the rezound, with whatever annoyances you are dealing with ... Are you still happy you got it?

Problems? What problems? This phone is a damn good, and pretty much logical, update from the incredible imo.

When I first heard of the big three phones (Rezound, Nexus, RAZR) coming out around the same time, I was torn as to which phone to go with. However, as I started looking at the specs on each phone, the Rezound stuck out as the clear winner for me. The fact that the RAZR does not have a replaceable battery and has the lowest screen resolution became deal breakers on that one. The fact that the Nexus does not have a slot to upgrade memory and the fact I had seen many discussions surrounding Samsung build quality became a deal breaker on that one. With that, the Rezound became the clear choice for me. I upgraded from the Thunderbolt. I have been very impressed so far. The screen is AMAZING on the rezound. The only downer for me with the Rezound right now is the lack of full root and S-off to be able to do some customization and hopefully improve battery life. Personally, I think the Rezound is a great phone!
This is a phenomenal phone and I have no regrets buying it, I came from an Incredible and went to the RAZR returned the RAZR and got the Rezound, haven't looked back at all.
I was gonna wait for the Nexus phone, but I'm not an AOSP guy, "sense" is what bought me.
It all depends on which skinned version you like best.
1) Vanilla
2) Blur
3) Sense
My only annoyance with it is the bloatware and lack of root, which is all VZ's fault, not HTC's. I think they did a wonderful job with the device so far. I loooove the screen, I really don't miss the deeper blacks from the AMOLED of the Dinc because the RZ is just so damn sharp!
I LOVE this phone! I came from a rooted, tricked out Dinc... Thanks to Nils and Joel.
Would I do it again? Heck yes!

That is precisely why I am looking forward to S-OFF to remove all the bloat! I know removing some of it should really help get more out of the battery and should make the phone run like a dream!
i used my inc the other day for the first time in two days, and i've gotta say, although the blacks were darker with amoled, this screen is so much sharper and i think the blacks on the rezound's lcd actually make reading whtie text a little easier, for example on the xda app wiht the dark theme applied. i love it!

same here totally agree. I did the same thing.
The only problem I have is battery life. It's about the same as stock Incredible life. I know once we get root that will be easy to fix though. I love Sense, so this was a no brainer for me. I can't wait until we start getting some roms out
I upgraded from the incredible and got the Rezound a few days ago, it's kind of laggy but I just read that a factory reset may fix the issue. I kind of want to return it and get the Nexus.

My thoughts exactly.
Why is not having soff and root an issue? It's inevitable that we will have it shortly. Is there a single phone.. htc or otherwise on these forums that is not rooted?

It makes it kind of useless to ask for opinions if only one is allowed to be expressed without being called a troll. Besides, he can't take it back now and get the Nexus, can he?
Anyway, the Rezound is by far the greatest phone I've ever owned. The screen is gorgeous, it feels great in your hand, and I haven't noticed any lag at all.
I Love the phone. It feels great in the hand and you can just feel the quality. I had a thunderbolt before this and I hook my phone up through AUX input in my truck EVERY time I drive it. The quality of sound that comes from the rezound is light years ahead of my thunderbolt. Like its a night and day difference, even in pandora the sound quality is WAYYYYYYYYYYY better.
Sounds like the phone is legit....i'm currently on a rooted TBolt and one can honestly say that there isn't much of a difference to the Rezound (albeit hardware), but seems like dev work has just come to a screethching halt and not that I need to be constantly changing ROM's every day (which I will admit to doing on certain occasions) but just feels outdated and a lost cause so root hardly plays a hand in this case anyways.
The rezound being a dual core 1.5 ghz phone certainly is appealing as well as the beats audio integration that I would certainly welcome since i'm always listening to music while running or in the car. Just want to pick your guys' heads on wether purchasing it justify's a bit of an upgrade, but not much per say. Any info is valuable and well appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Oh, another thing to add, the Beats audio only works on the native HTC Music app correct? Doesn't on google music nor Pandora or does it?
correct on beats, alpine.
as for the upgrade being worth it, well, it was for me..i came from the OG inc (july 2010) and although that's a damn good phone, i just wanted something faster and new...and i 100% love this phone, and would do it again in a heartbeat if i had to lol
Greetings earthlings. I was thinking about making the switch from the gnex to the rznd. I was wondering if there were any stock roms out there (no sense). Also how does flashing a rom work with s on? And finally anything else I should consider before making the switch?

You should consider that the Nexus sucks and the Rezound is amazing.
Just kidding, but the Rezound really is better. I've only had HTC phones, so I don't know how the Nexus flashes ROMs, but we can do it right in recovery. The only (small) hassle is that we have to flash kernels through the bootloader, but our devs have come a long way in simplifying that process. There are a few ROMs that are stripped of Sense as well.

Also, as best I understand it, you will not be able to flash alternate radios or splash screens.
As the responder above me indicated, there are no straight AOSP ROMs at this time. Check through the Android Development section and see if any of the "Senseless" ROMs fit your needs.

Having owned both the Nexus and the Rezound, I dumped the Nexus and went back to the Rezound. You won't regret it.
The Rezound was only unlocked last week so roms are a little limited at the moment. However, we have some great devs working on it.

I made the switch from a SGN.... I must say, your going to miss some things that the Nexus had (ICS), but your really going to love things the Rezound brings to the table. There are a handful of roms out now. I think the Senseless rom you'll have to install a 3rd party Launcher. I've come to really enjoy Sense... I;ve read about people wanting to get Sense off thousands of times... My only question is... Why? It actually functions quite awesome...
I'm quite happy with the Rezound, the Dev Support is great, and I'm almost positive there will be quite a few more by the 15th when everyone returns their Nexus because the Reception and speaker both are terrible!!
Good luck..
Don't forget the Rezound will be getting ICS soon as well. It's only a temporary loss.

Soon? More like next fall.
i too am thinking of switching from Gnexus to Rezound.
I think in a couple months the truth is going to come out that the Gnexus is actually quite a very subpar phone.
PenTile matrix display, abysmal battery life, and the extremely poor camera quality are enough to have me switch to the rezound.
here is my main concern though, what kind of battery life do you guys get? with my gnexus LTE enabled all day, i could only get about 2 hours of on-screen time. what about the rezound?
thanks in advanced.
Thanks for all the info! Does android wifi tether currently work with rooted rezounds? Also are speeds on lte better? (Noticed lower speeds on gnex)
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
yes wifi tether does work.
I currently just traded my GNEX for a Rezound.
Best choice I've made.
As the GNEX is a great phone.
The Rezound is just amazing.
You won't be upset if you do choose to trade up.
S-ON isn't too bad since we have root.
S-OFF would be ideal, but I'm plenty happy with what we have and is to come
I came from a GNEX and really, really like this phone. The thing that impressed me the most is the screen.
The GNEX has a big, beautiful screen but the colors seemed kind of washed out. The Rezound, the colors just pop and seem very vibrant. Greens are a brilliant green, red's are brilliant red. It's hard to explain, but it is very noticeable.
I also noticed a considerable difference in the camera quality on the Rezound compared to the GNEX. Sure, you're not going to take 20 photos in a second with the Rezound but you do get better quality pictures. Feature wise, both phones offer the same recording features/
I have flashed a couple roms, it was very easy and am very encouraged by the development work that is going on.
I'm one of those few people who actually like Sense, so I really do like what HTC has done with the UI. The ICS dialer pissed me off to no end, it was huge bulky and just seemed very.. blah. While the Sense dialer isn't better, it is at least a bit more functional.
One last thing I would throw out there is that I never knew about the UOT Kitchen (can't link yet, but search the forums and you'll find it) until I happened across a post in this forum. I have to say, it is one of the coolest and easiest ways to give your phone your own personal flair. I'm sure that ICS / GNEX will be supported on the Kitchen but for now, you at least get that benefit on the Rezound.
Anyway, hope this helps somewhat.

I can't give a good answer to that as my area isn't 4G... I have chargers everywhere in my house and at my office so Battery Life isn't such an issue for me. I have flashed two roms today and have been playing with it non-stop all day and I think it has been on the charger maybe two hours.. Maybe someone in a 4g area could respond to that better.. I do know that on a normal day, it is way way better than my Nexus... The batt life was HORRID on it.. On the Rezound I wouldn't consider getting the bigger battery, because the battery isn't that bad for me.. In 8 days of owning the SGN, my battery went dead 3x... Rezound hasn't gone dead yet..
I loved the SGN... I'll be the first to tell you.. If it had a louder speaker and a better reception, I'd still have it... But the rezound has a awesome speaker, and the reception is hands down as good as my Droid X or better...
Its a big decision for you to make.. I don't think you will be unhappy making the switch...
I made the switch. I miss ics miss
I don't miss the poor battery life.
I don't miss the loud signal in reno
I don't miss the soso camera
I don't miss the plastic cheap feel.
I have the bigger rezound battery. I haven't used it. The stock battery seems fine.
I love the camera.
It's really fast.
I think I like the 720 screen better on the rezound.
Beats is lame. The headphones are heavy and barely stay in my ears.
I'm not a fan of sense but I don't hate it.
I will keep the rezound. It just works.

I agree.
We have both phones on our corporate VZ account. I am in charge of that account and get my phones for free.
If I wanted a GN I could have one tomorrow, but I am not impressed with the GN AT ALL and I couldn't wait to get one for months before it was actually released.
I do like the huge screen size, I wish my Rezound had a 5" screen, but there is absolutely NOTHING ELSE I like about the GN.

For me it turned out to be more simple than I thought, I had been up for an upgrade for about 6 months (previous phone BB Curve). I was debating on specs and features of the Razr, GN, and Rezound. I would go back and fourth on what i really wanted. But as soon as I waled into the store and actually picked up the phone, i knew which one I wanted. Razr felt horrible in the hand and just down right uncomfortable (i am really not a thin kinda guy). GN felt as if even with a case it would break at even the smallest drop. But the RZ felt solid even w/o a case.
Even after looking at how the phones worked, it still went to the RZ. Now my decision was even more correct now that I have it fully rooted.
I get great battery life (for the type of phone)
Great platform for whatever I use my phone for
Great picture quality
and a VERY solid device that I have a feeling I will be happy with for 2 more years.

Yes worth it.

When it freezes you hold down power for like 10 seconds or something like that.

anyways i used to be opposed to unremovable batts but you can always hard reset and thats fine... usually makes the phone more slim and form fitting...
although i miss the days of pulling that tab on my droid x and breaking it to get the battery out, resorting to a butterknife or something...

Great phone.
Beautiful display
Very fast!
but if you want to wait for the extra 1gig of ram on the GSIII It would be understandable. But according to Engadget, they still like the EVOlte better because of the physical camera button and the kickstand. Also from what I've been reading the extra ram isn't really going to come into play to much.

Definitely an upgrade from the OG Evo. I was hesitant at first, I didn't want to get the phone as soon as it comes out because usually the first few batches have kinks that need to be worked out. But I'm confident with this phone, all the technology in it has been around for some time, so its well put together. Still waiting to see how LTE performs, but that wont be for a while.
As for battery life, its awesome. I've actually gone almost two days (at least 40 hours) now without charging it, of course that was light to moderate usage (visiting some websites, a few calls and texts, taking pictures, navigating through menus, downloading some apps). The OG Evo could barely get a day out of it. Not having a removable battery might be a problem for some, but I'm sure HTC has safeguards in place in case the phone freezes. And remember, iPhones do not have a removable battery, and all those trendy apple fanboys are tickled pink to buy a new iphone every year.
I'd give the Evo LTE 10/10... In my opinion (or in my case, anyways) its the best phone ive ever had.

Against my own advice of buying a Nexus I am about to buy a Dinc4G off contract and simply because I broke my Dinc2 screen two times in a row...
How is the Dinc4G? Any issues (software or hardware glitches)? I want to ensure that it is a good phone. I know it has great specs, but that is half the story. The other half is living with it (and I learned from my experience with the Droid X2 and Transformer prime)..
So any issues at all? Or is it smooth sailing?
EDIT: OMG! I bought the phone!
Now please god, let me make up some of that cash from the Dinc2 sale.

i would say smooth sailing, well the sdcard thingy, but the only problem i have had is waiting for root.
I like mine. It's noticeably faster than the Incredible 2. I bought a 64GB SDCard from Amazon for $44.
I think you'd like it. S off is coming. I liked the og Inc better than my Inc 2 and the 4g reminds me of the first incredible. And you already know the devs are good ones.
---------- Post added at 04:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:18 PM ----------
One thing is my first 4g had about 10 dead pixels so I got a new one. The new one has some of the back light bleeding from the bottom bezel though but that's nbd to me
the form factor is closer to the og inc than inc2 (though not *That* different)
i have no complaints with mine, and plan on keeping it for a long time...even when the dlx/dna launches (ill just swap sims when i want use one or the other)

Hold on a sec! You said what now about SD cards? I guess it shouldn't be major issue but I'd like to hear moar!
I am about to finalize the deal and I don't wanna over think this. Yes, I was an idiot to drop my Dinc2 and crack the screen for a second time, and it cracked easily since I probably didn't install it properly first time around. And yes, it is gonna be expensive to go off contract, but anywho... i hope the resale value for the Dinc4G is good ones my upgrade comes around.... :/
Man, do I know how to waste good money . Anyway gang, I will shortly join you and we can continue our crusade of the missing OTA update for Key Lime Pie... (4.2, I guess, ain't it!)
Welcome back to the land of Dix! Thanks all! I hope I don't mess up my future phones like this... It is only after you drop and break a phone you realize that you have to treat these devices like babies... Don't Drop Them!
Personally, I like mine but the build quality has been questionable. I took my first one back after a day of use because the screen was discolored, used the next one for about a month with a creaky battery cover before a crack started forming at the headphone jack, and finally the one I have now seems acceptable. The only design annoyances I've found are that the camera lens clicks as it focuses (bad for video) and the buttons don't have much feedback. Reception could be better, but it generally works fine.
Other than that, good software, good screen, good battery life.

the sdcard issue is the internal sd, will not let you transfer apps to the extsd, but root might cure that, not sure. i think all the new phones have this issue as well.

I swapped out my DInc4G twice with Best Buy because of the screen discoloration issue. The last phone I received from Best Buy had the same issue and HTC was kind enough to exchange my phone for a new one. I'm currently on my third DInc4G. All was fine until a month ago when the screen discoloration appeared on my current phone. I may contact HTC again but I've been busy and don't feel like going through the hassle of setting up my phone again.
I haven't experienced any other issues with the phone. The battery life is great compared to my OG DInc, and once we get s-off, it will be an even better phone.

Haha, damn. I just bought it. Anyway, sounds like the screen discoloration issue is primarily due to the glue not having fully cured and all? And I was guessing this has solid build quality. Well, you always have a few bad ones, but I wonder if I activate a Dinc4G on my line and I have issues down the road, can I do a Certified replacement from Verizon?

the sdcard issue is the internal sd, will not let you transfer apps to the extsd, but root might cure that, not sure. i think all the new phones have this issue as well.

That is an ICS issue, not specific to this phone. I'm hopeful there is a fix once rooted.

No probs with mine and I've had it for a few months now. Accessories are quite limited. Other than that, it's a great phone.
But I like the Rezound a little better. The email implementation feature wise isn't as good on the DINC 4G but it works well.
Enjoy your new toy! Now go get yourself a case!

Unrelated question, but performance wise is the Dinc4G better than the Gnex? Just curious, as I bought this over the Gnex as it has newer processor etc.

YEAH! I just got mine and already very happy. The 4G is the first thing to blow my mind! It is better than the WiFi speed I get at my room (though right next to the router, I should get exceptional WiFi)!
Now, get me up to speed, y'all! Is it okay to update to the latest OTA? And do we have root? Or should I just wait till the S-OFF rather than root it now? :cyclops: :fingers-crossed:
Cheers!

well, we are waiting on a s-off exploit, yes you need the new ota to run the exploit. i would wait for that if i were you, but i don't know how long it will be before it's released. that's about it.
Hey guys, quick back story. I have been an Android user for several years. I've had phones such as the Incredible, Charge, Thunderbolt. Rezound, Razr Maxx and Galaxy S3. I just recently got rid of my Galaxy S3 for a HTC 8X Windows 8 Phone. I was getting tired of Android and constantly flashing ROM's. I was a flashaholic and had to get myself away lol.
Anyhow, after about a week with the 8X, I really like the phone and OS. However, I'm starting to miss Android. I miss the larger screens and wealth of apps.
Fast forward to today and I'm sitting here considering switching back. And if I do, I'm not getting another GS3 since I've already been there, done that so to speak. My frontrunner is the DNA.
I know nobody can make the decision for me, but I want opinions! Should I switch back, and would this be the phone to get?
I also have a couple questions before I jump back:
1. On my Rezound, homescreen scrolling lag in Sense absolutely killed that phone for me. I can't stand any type of scrolling lag and I'm very sensitive to it. Does that exist on the DNA, or is that a thing of the past? Please be honest.
2. I see that the phone can already be rooted, but does the future look bright in that department?
3. I think I know the answer, but I will throw it in there. For normal, moderate usage, is the battery life acceptable? On par with the GS3?
Thanks guys!
hey man. so yeah launcher lag was bad on rezound. however, in sense 4+, they tightened it up and it's very rigid and never lags.. ever. all 7 of my screens are full of widgets and icons and it's smooth.
battery I tend to get 12 hours with 3 hours screen on time. pretty much the same as my s3.
not sure about rooting yet since I'm still chillin on stock haha

I'll answer #2 the phone seems to have a very talented dev team. Already there are a few Roms and kernels. the future looks bright. As of now I know people are working on Asop and even viper rom.

No lag
Bright future, there are some great devs for this phone already
On par or slightly better.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
No lag whatsoever....period. I came from a thunderbolt and that too would drive me crazy, even with a polished rom and without widgets. I'm not sure if it's Project Butter, Jelly Bean, Sense 4+, 2g of RAM or the insane processor in this thing that makes it run smoothly. Probably a little bit of all of that.
Battery life is good enough for me. I work in and out of 4G area at work but I am on wifi pretty much the rest of the time and it has been awesome. Never charge mid day anymore. Always with 20 to 30 % by the time I go to bed. And the wireless charger is awesome. Highly recommend it. I find myself using youtube more often than I should because of the awesome screen too. I would say I am an average user.
Have not found a reason yet to root. I will wait until it becomes more stable, easier before I go that route. But I'm sure there will be good ROM in the future....at least I hope so.
Ok guys, I'm pretty convinced that I'm gonna give the DNA a shot. One thing I noticed about this HTC 8X Windows Phone is that it locked on satellites really fast. Much, much, much faster than my GS3. It also had better reception than my GS3. Can I expect the same things on the DNA or might that have been a Windows thing?

The s3 just has horrible radios.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I doubt the development will be here that long. Look at the Thunderbolt. They had to wait for ports.
I've owed many smartphones and used/supported countless others. (including the gs3) The DNA is the first phone that has ever even come close to keeping up with me and the speed at which my brain operates. Zero lag period, regardless of how many apps you have running. I haven't even considered OC'ing and that's usually the first thing I do. The battery is decent and better then most. I typically charge over night and once mid-day. Most other phones I've had to charge 2 - 3 times a day. The dev scene is about average for a phone this new and s-on. Once s-off is achieved I expect it to blow up.
The DNA is the first phone that I've had that wouldn't bother me if there wasn't a big development team behind it. Like you I was/am a flashaholic, but honestly with a couple of Mods I've been golden on this phone. It's snappy, the radios are great (looking at you Samsung) GPS is phenomenal, and battery is pretty much the same as the GS3. Wireless charging is a plus, awesome to just sit it down and let it charge overnight, or on my desk at work.
The phone works great out of the box, only a couple of annoyances for me was the bloat, Wi-Fi reminder, and battery icon, I love everything else. Sense has come a long way since the thunderbolt (last HTC phone I owned). If you had to be stuck with a manufacturer's skin, Sense would be my pick.

What do you mean by that? I got the TB about a week after releases adn there were A LOT of roms being made. What you are talking about is a little bit after the major devs started jumping ship. I think the Thunderbolt had it's fair share of roms
I hope the DNA gets a fully working MIUI; I really like the themes you can get on MIUI
My thunderbolt kept giving me a roaming flashing triangle whenever I ran an MIUI rom which started driving me crazy.
