[Q] I'm Too Lame to Install APK Flash. Help! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, I've got what are probably really stupid questions. I'm trying to install Flash on my new Nexus 10. I'm brand-new to tablets, as you'll probably be able to tell from the following questions:
I downloaded the ZIP file on my computer, transferred it to Dropbox, and then put that archive in my SD.
But I can't figure out how to INSTALL it.
I just can't figure out what to do next. I've installed a thing called APK Installer and it doesn't seem to recognize that there's a program to install even after I've unzipped it IN the folder where the APK installer is.
I see no .exe anywhere in any of the folders in the archive.
Yes, I've turned on the ability to install from Unknown Sources.
What am I missing here?
THANKS for the help!

There is no flash version for devices whit Android +4.0 Your tablet runs 4.3 so no suport.

So even these kewl apk versions won't work on my new tablet? It just seems retarded that I won't be able to watch Amazon Instant Video on my Nexus 10.

I think amazon will fix it i think

I have been using UNRAR Pro because it supports encrypted RAR files.
unrar pro is amazing for this thats for sure
if you want a little project to try, you could compile 7zip for android and run it via the terminal emulator on the phone. http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
The guys that make winrar do make a version for arm chips, but after trying it out, I don't think it's compatiable with the cpu we have. Oddly enough, it also doesn't have a .exe extension on it, so I am unsure what it's exactly for really as far as targeted OS. They also stopped making it after version 3.xx, so I assume it might have been for symbian phones.
Thanks all
Yes AndroZip works.

How do you install non market apps?

Am using CM7 from SD card. How do you install an app if it is on your PC?
I don't have CWM on my NC so if there is a way that doesn't use this great.

Using ES File Explorer and went to my PC to transfer an app to my SD card. When I clicked it to copy it ran it and asked whether I wanted to install. So I installed without moving the .apk file.
Question, should the .apk reside where the app will work from or is it not needed?
I personally use awesome drop. Love it on my wireless network.

After you install it you don't need the .apk anymore. Android takes care of it by itself.
The apk is like the original exe file of an installation program at windows system for PC.
After U install a program, U dont care to move the installation file.

Not able to install apk files

A family member has the Galaxy S3 and it is completely stock, non rooted and so on, and i know the phone does not need to be rooted to install apk files.
The problem is that i have copied over the apk file that i want onto his S3 but his phone, no matter what file explorer you use, just will not see the apk files at all, the fines worked fine on my Sensation and DHD and One X, but i just can not get the phone to see the apk files,
any idea's on what is causing the phone to not see the files?
cheers

you sure they are named as .apk file and not .zip? you should be able to see the filename without the .apk in myfiles for example (myapp.apk will appear as myapp), you will also have to check allow install from unknown sources in the security menu in settings..
yes its named .apk
i have not changed anything about the apk files from installing them on my other phones as i said, the DHD and the Sensation are both rooted but my One X is not rooted and that was able to see the apk file and install it, i seriously have no idea on why the S3 is not seeing them at all and that is after searching online for info
also i have enabled the use on non-market applications to be installed, but that is no use if the phone cant see the .apk files to install it in the first place
How you transferred the file to GS3? Is the file visible when connected to PC?

getting my files to show hidden files did not work.
what it is that i'm trying to install a game, there is a data folder that has to be transferred onto the phone as well, it goes into the Android\obb folder on the sdcard, i created the folder and copied over the files into the folder, the phone.... using my files, astro or es explorer still will not see that folder i created for the files or the apk file itself that has to be installed for these files to be used.
also i tried it on a friends stock, non-rooted Galaxy S2 and it could see the files and it installed first time with no problems so right now i have no idea on what is going on with the Galaxy S3
Sorted, i know what it was, me being a tit....
when you open astro, it starts off in the SDcard folder... the samsung see's the built in memory as the SDcard.. to see the actual SDcard (the removable one lol) i have to select extSCcard..
Am i a tit or what lol
Cheers for the help anyway guys
much appreciated

Any .apk will do? .apk is just the extension that apps are in, essentially your asking how to install an app to your android phone.
Just open the play store and download is the most common way, you can side load with adb, if you have an app on SD you can use a file explorer to open it then choose install (must have unknown sources checked)
I guess you may want to be a bit more specific for further help

[Q] Workaround for inability to install apps from Gear Manager?

Hi -- Per another thread, some of us are getting hangs when we try to install anything from the Galaxy Gear app store using Gear manager. Obviously, the best solution would be a fix for that. However, in the meantime, I thought maybe I could find some .wgt files and install them with sdb.
Aside from the fact that even the sdb connection seems a bit flakey, the bigger issue is that the .wgt apps I can find get rejected because they are not properly signed (for the S or whatever). I don't see a way I can turn of the signing verification (so nice of Samsung to provide watch software with so many bugs but then make sure and protect us from trying to actually make use of the device some other way).
Does anyone have a workaround for this? I've also tried to see if I can crack open an .apk from the Gear store to get the .wgt I assume is inside, but even after I've got a Gear S app "hung" on "Installing..." I don't see a .apk anywhere on my phone (S4) file system. It seems like there should be some way to put various pieces together to install apps other than with the official, but broken, way. Any ideas would be appreciated!
I have my Gear S running with an HTC One, and also can't install directly from Gear Manager. I can find the .wgt file in my /system/data/data/com.android.samsung.galaxyapps (or something like that) / files folder, then install it via USB cable with "sdb install [file].wgt".

Bill -- I was hoping I could do that, but I can't find any .wgt files (I've searched pretty thoroughly using ES Explorer). I don't know if the Galaxy Gear App process doesn't even get far enough to create them? I tried a couple .wgt files for other Gear units I found on the web, but when I sdb them they fail with certificate errors. If you (or someone) can post a .wgt that is known to work with the Gear S that I can try to sideload, that'd be appreciated (or if someone has another way I can to to get the .wgt files from the apps I'm trying to download using Galaxy Apps.

You have to rename or move the the .wgt file while Galaxy Apps is hanging on "Installing..." before it fails. When it fails it will remove the file.
To avoid the certificate signing issue, create a new project in the Tizen Developer Tools IDE, change the file extension of the given .wgt to to .zip, and copy the contents of the zip (asside from the certificate xml files) into the new Tizen project and build to the watch. No more signing error.
You can do the same to APK files, just change them to .zip to extract the .wgt file embedded inside of them.

That's what I've been trying to do, but I'm not finding the .wgt even during that Window of time. Doing a search with ES Explorer doesn't find anything, so I think maybe I have to know exactly what directory Galaxy Apps places things in. But I don't have a System/data/data (like you mentioned you do), and I can't seem to figure out where in the FS the temp files might be. [I'm running KangaKat 8.1, which is 4.4.4., in case that provides any ideas]. I'll keep looking around!
PS Thanks for the suggestion on the Cert. That should be helpful as well.

Ahh, thanks. My phone is definitely rooted (that's likely why all the problems with gear in the first place), but the Root settings got turned off for Explorer at some point. It also appears that my equivalent folder is under "/data/data/..." instead of under /system, but in any case once I turened on the root switch it was easy to find. Now to try to load some widgets! Thanks again!

I followed the instructions in the post further up the thread from Oleyb about snagging the .wgt file while the install was running.
Thanks for the reply...unfortunately my gear s is standalone so I don't have access to the Galaxy store :/. The watch would have been so much better if Samsung would have I clouded this on the watch itself....let's hope a dev or modded can one day figure that out...thanks again!

How do you know what files are the certificate files? And do you have to do anything else after deleting the certificates before building to the watch? Thanks in advance!
