Hello guys!
Here's what happened. My friend has a I9300 which he'd bought in Germany. He is in India at the moment and his Gorilla Glass cracked on the screen due to a fall from about 30 cms. Display & touch was working fine even after the Gorilla Glass was cracked. So today he took it to a Certified Service Center to get the repair done, they replaced the display panel on his Pebble Blue S III with a replacement part of the display panel from the White S III.

After the service, the phone is turning on, but the touch isn't working anymore. Any idea what might have happened? I'm 100% sure that the touch was perfectly alright before they serviced it. I am going to effing sue that service center if they do not rectify their mistake. But before going into rage mode I want an opinion from you guys. Kind souls, please help!
Edit 1: He had a custom ROM on the phone when the display was changed. Would it be possible that the display driver got corrupted or something? I am going to flash the stock 4.1.2 ROM. Will keep you guys posted.

you have the right to demand! no stepping back!
One a Samsung service repair should have tested before giving the phone back.
Two don't start flashing stuff as they may well say that's not the firmware it had when it left hear in working condition .
Take the phone back and complain that the repair was faulty .
jje
The technician might have forgotten to connect or improperly connected the touch grid sensor. Im pretty sure those wires are different from the wires driving the display. Send the device back to the svc center

Sounds weird, but this is the 2nd ATRIX I've received and within 4 months, a portion of the LCD screen just...dies. not dropped or water damaged either. Also with both phones it was the SAME part of the screen...and almost exactly 4 months apart...odd.

As you can see, that strip doesn't recognize contact, in either portrait or landscape. Anyone else experience this flaw?
Yup. But mine was at the top. I sent it in for warranty and got it fixed.

I've also got the same problem, except the dead portion of the screen is the exact part where the first notification in the notification bar is.
Any ideas?

Digitizer. The weakest part of that phone. If its in warranty, you're lucky. If not, search around for a replacement.

I just bought my second digitizer. (first one was not oem and worked but it didnt have minor details like tint where the sensors are.) My original one went dead, the second one i dropped the phone and it started going bad. Here is a link to an oem one from amazon. It should get here by monday so I will update you on the condition of it. I would NOT recommend going for a cheaper non-oem version.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053EYGEO/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
EDIT: I got the digitizer... and broke the ribbon cable lol. It was in perfect condition though and the company issued me an RMA so im getting another. I am sure that it worked fine. Seems like a great company (i got it from seller1on1) I have bought from them before, i cant say anything about how good the other companies are.
Hey guys, this morning my phone's screen started acting up when I was using the browser and later when I was using the keyboard, certain letters wouldn't work. I then got Touch Test from the market to see what was wrong with it, and I found that taps along the center line dividing the screen left and right did not register properly. I applied some pressure to that part of the screen and saw rainbow patterns beneath the digitizer on the LCD screen. When I pressed elsewhere though, no patterns appeared. So I am wondering if my Atrix has a loose digitizer and whether replacing the digitizer would fix the issue.
Thanks!
well, if you would have searched, you have found that there are already at least a couple of threads for this same topic. Now there is another one. You probably have a bad microprocessor for the touch screen. Search and you will even find some very helpful pics that show what is involved in swapping out the digitizer.
Thanks for the input but I did go through a search and had I found posts where the ops who reported the issue had actually resolved the problem, I wouldn't be posting here... also I'm not here asking for instructions to swap the digitizer because I can YouTube it, I'm here to ask if people who had similar issues before were able to fix the problem by replacing the digitizer...
But then again, I guess its easier to assume that all thread starters haven't done the research and just tell them to do a search everytime.
I just had the same issue, and actually in the same location on the middle of the screen. Since I'd unlocked & rooted the thing, I figured I had voided my warranty and wouldn't be able to get a replacement, so I bought a replacement digitizer to do it myself. After 2+ hours of work, the screen ended up being more dead than before. Digitizer replacement isn't easy, I'll tell you that.
So instead I flashed a fruit cake, took it to the local AT&T store with a repair/warranty center, and they replaced it on the spot. It's a known issue for the phone, so they didn't bat an eye.
Hell, I didn't even buy the thing from AT&T in the first place (got a better price at Walmart), and they still took it, no questions asked.
So if you're on AT&T, try a repair center. If you're not in the US... maybe your carrier will do the same? Hard to guess.
I didn't think warranty from att was still effective so i did an rma for motorola. They take 5-7 days, leaving me without a phone . Called att &have it was still under warranty and there is a service center in Tampa. Did the repair order on phone, took unlocked phone there and they swapped it out. Get home tofind the phone does not see the sd card. Called att back and squeeled like a stuck pig. They mailed me a replaicment. The screen is not set good and get a little bleed from the lower left corner of screen. Havent decided wether to keep it or not. Lousey quality control.
That's what i think too .

I have the same problem, it appears to be screen-burning : apparently some pixels are getting "bleached" by displaying the same color most of the time (i.e the status bar) -although on mine the strip looks clearer and not darker like yours, but it seems to be a common problem on AMOLED screens..
At such prices, it should be supposed to last longer than a year.. I'll try and necociate a replacement with my carrier as mine is still under warranty.
Yes, it's a Super AMOLED plus issue, it is reduced in Samsung Galaxy III because it's only Super AMOLED.
But this is so early... and I think it's not time for it to do so, something is really wrong with your screen, you go see customer service if you are still in warranty ASAP

I'm afraid you can't avoid it, since it's linked to the screen itself. Not unless you're willing to spend a lot of dough on spare SuperAMOLED+ screens and learning how to replace one yourself.. The only thing you can do is enable autorotation on your launcher(s) and not hold your phone the same position all the time (i.e. alternate between portrait and landscape. Personally I configure my CM9 so's it authorizes 180° rotations, so I can hold my phone upside down too -very convenient when reading webpages to avoid mistakenly hitting the back button too often. ).

Everybody should please read this about Screen burn-in
Everything you need to understand about it and its prevention is there.
I believe this will be useful for everyone and will help debunk some myths about the issue.
I have been given an Xperia X10 from my friend which had a broken (shattered at the bottom) touch screen digitizer and a slightly damaged LCD screen (the LCD didn't work at all, just the backlight). We went to the Sony Ericsson showroom her in Bangalore, India and asked them the repair cost and to our dismay, they quoted 16,000Rs (~290$) to get it fixed.
We were not ready to spend that much on a 2 year old phone. So this time we decided to experiment with it and try our hand at fixing the phone ourselves.
I ordered the Touch screen Digitizer and LCD Display from an eBay Seller called easyworldwidetrading and they shipped my item in a few days. I immediately went online and searched for teardown videos on youtube and managed to get all the parts opened safely.
Once I put back all the parts, the LCD display started working and the phone powered on. BUT, once the phone fully powered on and came to the lock screen, the Touch didn't work.
I then removed and replaced only the touch with the old shattered one (luckily the screen guard that it had was holding the shattered screen in place) and to my surprise, it worked.
I then painstakingly returned the new touch screen digitizer to the company in Hong Kong and they sent me a replacement in a few weeks. I checked today with the new touch screen (which they assured to me was tested for defects) and again, to my disappointment, is still not working on my phone.
Now, my friend's phone is an Xperia X10 not an X10i or X10a which is White in colour. The touch screen digitizer I had ordered is in Black. The codes on the data strip of the digitizers(The old white one and the new black one) are different.
Would there be any tweak in the software to recognize a different touch screen from the one that is provided by the manufacturer..?
Can someone help me out by telling me why the touch screen does not work(even though its a brand new original Sony Ericsson touch screen digitizer) and how my old touch screen digitizer is working though its shattered.

I've a zenwatch 2
Recently I've noticed that there is a shadow on the screen, to discover then that maybe some pixels have died !!!!!!!!!
I've returned to dev. options and find the screen burn in protection disabled, enabled it and after restart returned to the dev. options and it's disabled again.
Tried to snap some photos, you can notice the circle in the middle :S

Have you tried setting "Always On Screen" to off. I disabled ambient mode to save battery, but it ends up leaving the display on for no more than a few minutes a day. That should practically eliminate burn-in.
Mine has the same problem, nothing is working, I have no idea how to fix
OLED displays are prone to this. I have an old Galaxy S2 that I used as a desk clock for a while, and it now has a clock pattern burned into it that shows up on very light screens. Note that while the underlying cause of OLED burn in is different from CRTs, the effect is similar. The pixels are permanently dimmer because they are dying faster.
The only "fix" is to display a negative image for a while until the rest of the screen "burns in" to match, which might be some trick on a smart watch (and it's not easy on a phone), so it's probably just stuck there. Also, even if you eliminate the burn-in, all you have really done is shortened the life of the remaining pixels. I'd just choose a similar face that tends to hide the issue and move on.
The only solution is to not have a static image on the screen for very long. For watches, this means letting the display turn off instead of keeping it on all the time.
Thanks all
Thought it was a software problem

I have a very tiny hope that AW 2.0 will solve it (Very tiny tint)
I keep my watch's (always on screen) off
I had to send mine in for warranty repair. This started after about four months use, without the always on screen. I just got it back, it took them about two weeks, but they replaced the screen, and it's good as new. I was hoping they'd load it with Wear 2.0 before they sent it back, but no such luck.

I don't have warranty for this product, I am in Bangladesh, I need to send it back to USA for availing warranty I am not sure how much it would cost to change screen though
