[Q] Wiping Data (Cracked Screen) - G2 General

So I cracked my screen and its unresponsive to touch except a very small area in the bottom left corner of the phone...
I'm trying to sell the phone on ebay but i would like to wipe it first obviously cause it has alot of my info on it...but i cant seem to find a way to do that considering nothings responding
It is rooted...i cant get it to go to ethernet connection but i can get it to modem (using the small area of space that works and flipping landscape/portrait mode) and it seems that adb shell is connecting but none of the commands to wipe data arent working...is it cause its not in ethernet mode? (i seriously cant get to the ethernet button...its like 1 mm too far away)
ive tried (while in adb shell)
recovery --wipe_data
su wipe data
sudo su wipe data
when i do try "wipe data" it give me error message saying "permission denied"...
any thoughts/recommendations??
Thanks in advance!

It has otg, just use a cable and a mouse, then go into settings menu and there is an option under backup and reset(or something like that). Our you could hold down power and volume down while powering it up for factory reset. Going into download mode and kdz/lgnpst back to stock to hide the root is an idea also, power and volume up for that.

S2 not booting, cannot reach recovery/download because home button does not work

Hey folks,
I have some serios sh!t over here.... I have installed a new rom and accidentally deleted the launcher3.apk (because usually I use nova) but in that moment I didnt have nova launcher installed!!!! And the phone rebooted itself since that moment I just see the boot animation for example but nothing else.
It wouldnt be a problem at all if I could just enter recovery wipe and install it again, or restore a twrp nandroid backup BUUUUUUTT my home button doesnt work! And thats why I cant boot into recovery since I cant touch the 3 buttons. Last time I went through adb commands into recovery but now adb says liste of device and there is one BUT it is offline... So when I type a command it says Error: Device Offline!
Is there a way to fix it without putting money into it?? Or do i need another LCD so I can boot into recovery with a working home button?? That would be a real real bad thing
Thanks a lot for help

Okay, someone told me a hint! You can enter the download mode also, when you are holding volume down and then connecting the device to a charger. It worked well flashed with Odin FW etc. so no problem at all LOL! Maybe this information will help someone other. Please close the thread.

MHL/OTG in recovery? Or ADB CWM backup possible?

I have a Tmobile Galaxy S5. The screen will not turn on but I believe the digitizer is working since it still vibrates when I enter try to swipe my pattern lock, wish I had left it as fingerprint locked. The phone is rooted and has CWM. ADB lists the device as offline when phone is booted up but if I boot into recovery ADB works but I couldn't find any way to command cwm to create a backup. I tried screencast with adb but the S5 must capture screen shots in a different way than screencast was designed for. I'd like to just create a CWM back up some how. I dont know if the digitizer is reading the touches in the right spot or not either since I havent been able to unlock the phone by attempting to swipe the lock pattern blindly. I was thinking maybe I'd buy an MHL/OTG adapter and hopefully be able to navigate the phone but they all seem to be hit or miss if a mouse will work while using HDMI and I cant find any info if MHL and OTG even work while in a recovery or not. Any info or ideas are greatly appreciated.
Incase anyone searches this, I have had no luck getting HDMI to transmit and use a mouse at the same time. Also the recovery will not transmit in recovery mode.

Sorry you havent got any response, but could you help me?
when you say " recovey will not transmit in recovery mode" do you mean that the mhl will not work when you enter recovery mode? i know it seems obvious but im about to try the same thing
thanks best regards

GT-I8260 with broken screen (LCD and touch) and pattern, probably without recovery

Hello!
My friend has a big problem. He broke his phone screen (LCD and touch). His Android has pattern to unlock and usb debugging off. System work's - I see about 15 px of top menu and hear sound from speaker.
Is there any chance to recive data from internal memory? He broke that phone about 3 month ago and right now he probably don't remember pattern.
I try connect mouse and keyboard with OTG cable, but it does not work. I try push 3 buttons and open recovery menu, but nothing to happend.
It is possible, pattern locks are really simple to crack using adb (tons of tutorials online).
Once you have done that, you can try to use the good ol otg combo.
If that doesn't work, boot into download mode (usually power button + home + volume down) and flasha recovery (don't wipe the userdata). Then from there, adb can recognize it and you can create a backup from there and access shell to get the files.
Good luck.

Pop your battery out, then after ~10min put it back in, then hold power + home button + volume down and flash recovery, then when you boot into recovery mtp and and will be enabled. Good luck

⚠ Problem with back to stock

I have problem with getting back to stock fullmics 5.5 on h850. I have installed it reboot and now Im stuck in secure start-up lock pattern from previous rom I believe. Pattern wont work and also meanwhile "FC system UI has stopped" warning is showing all the time.
I can get into download mode but port is not recgonized in vista so ADB cant be used (WHQL usb drivers 4.4.2 are installed ok)
problem is also that I cant get into recovery mode or
factory reset menu from startup, seems power button down procedure wont work like previously did...for some reason bootloader warning appears almost immediately after power on so power button off and on for a sec like I believe it should, has no effect.
Im really getting out of ideas to solve this...tech brain of the world please gather for help

edit2: luckly I solved problem with straighteing pins so now twrp works as it should. What a noobish mistake huh...Be careful w with opening case!!??!

HELP! Broken Screen and stuck in TWRP

Here is the situation:
S9+ (F/DS) Model, ROOTED and TWRP installed, USB DEBUGGING ENABLED
I broke the screen and now no touch will register. I want to create a NANO backup to restore to a new device BUT:
1. When I plug the USB cable into my PC, my phone does not show up as an ADB device, instead it shows as a portable device.
2. I can see the device in ODIN, I can see the Internal storage and the SD card, but when I do adb devices, the phone is not listed
I've tried to install Google USB drivers and I've been seraching, but keeps saying it's not compatible for my device...
I am at a loss...
1. Can't get ADB to work,
2. Now I cant' even exit TWRP because that's all touch based as well, and I have no way to click on reboot or create backup.

You can reboot with your hard keys:
Press and hold down the Power and Volume Down buttons for 5-10 seconds
Continue holding these two buttons down until the the Galaxy S9 restarts
Then let go of these two buttons and wait for the device to boot back into Android

You can also try vol.up+power if the method above doesn't work.
Once you're in your OS, connect to adb and backup your files.

Unfortunately this doesn't work, Volume Down + Power will restart the device, but it keeps going back into TWRP.
Volume Down + Power + Bixby gets me into download mode, again, clicking power down to "restart" in this mode also then goes back into TWRP :/

I remember windows searched automatically for drivers. Doesn't that work? I don't have windows, so never had driver issues...
If you want (and are a little bit experienced with computers) we could try to create a linux live usb boot, install adb and fastboot tools onto it and then try to see if your device is being recognized.
But since it's a little bit of effort, you should do it only if the drivers keep failing.

But you're at that screen with all those buttons (install, reset, backup, restore, etc.)? It's not that screen where you have to swipe (the initial screen to grant write / readonly access)?
Maybe you can also try an otg mouse. I don't know if it works in twrp, though. But where I live we can actually ask to test the product first (and don't have to buy it) so maybe you could try that at your local store (if they aren't closed due to the current situation).
Easy fix; replace the display.
Always keep your critical data redundantly backed up... or someday you will lose it☠
There are two ways to learn; the easy way or the hard way.
The hard way leaves scars.

Yes, I assumed replacing the display is no option since he has/gets a new device:

It's still a valuable device. A backup phone is always good to have.
This time though get a good case for it
I use the Bolt on my N10+ and it would be long dead* if not for this case.
*or in poor condition vs spotless A+ condition
