Pure AOSP kang.
Hmmm...all the roms that are not made by sumsung ...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Try a aosp rom such as slimrom or koud aosp. You didnt have to make a entire thread just for this. You couldve simply searched the android dev section :L

Stock rom plus http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334922 theme, pure win.
use WanamLite Rom until kernel source is here then u will have a lot of choices(cm9-akop..etc)
WanamLite very good rom and very light its 235 m.b rom without sammy crap
Ive looked at the roms mentioned and wanted some opinions rather than flashing each one and yes i did have to make a new thread for it. Too many people on here bash people for asking questions if you think the thread is stupid why did you look and comment just ignore it.

This is a good thread. I'm still stuck on 2.3.4 KH3 and was waiting for the official ICS to be released. Now that it has, I'm really turned off by how bloated TW is on it. These posts are good, keep them coming.
Bloated? Ok, I don't get that comment... doesn't seem bloated, seems green and orange! Pongster style!

Mate I use AOKP and CM9, both pretty similar except AOKP has a little more customization. I really can't go back to a Sammy rom now and can't wait for them to pull their finger out and release sources!

bezke ultraics xxlph
I'm sticking with SlimICS until CM9 releases stable build
IMHO Bezke Ultra ICS 4.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393569)
Dialer, SMS, Contacts, Gmail, Lockscreen, Music App.
The only problem is that in the 4.0 release they have the Samsung hubs and apps, for a perfect AOSP experience I recommend to remove it with Titanium...
Its been awhile since I have browsed the sgs2 forums and I stop in and notice ics is all over here. So I'm thinking of upgrading my girls s2 to 4.0 and I want opinions and stability and function of the current roms.
I'm leaning towards aokp or cm9. I have cm9 on my note and a500 so I'm fond of it obviously.
Coming from gb rooted w/ cwm full wipe and good to go I assume? I ask because in the n7k forum the leaked kernals suck and there were all these stupid methods for going from gb to ics...
Anyway thanks.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Yup full wipe. I am not running either of those ROM's so cant comment on them. I have been following Task's AOKP thread. That may be the next one I try.
If you'd like to try a Samsung based rom, give ShoStock2 a try. It's the best I've ever tried.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Ultimatum and SHOstock are excellent. AOKP is pretty sweet too.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
ICS is well worth the upgrade
I've been running CM9 since the first nightly. I love it. Haven't had any issues.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA Premium HD app
I've been running aokp for a few weeks and love it so far. It has been pretty stable and fast as hell. I'm sure things are even better in the latest build, but I haven't flashed yet.
Its like when GB became available and everyone was still on Froyo- once you open the desert and have a taste, your likely not gonna go back. And now that video recording is fixed- its all gravy baby
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Definitely go with AOKP, it's stable, fast, full of features, and rocks great battery life.
The only benefit of the Samsung ICS is MHL.

If MHL is a must, i think you're stuck with TW for now. My final choice was between aokp and cm9. Check the support/discussion threads, big difference...
No need for MHL I just want a stable ics rom for her because her miui rom is buggy as heck.
Thanks guys ill keep watching the dev section. For me aokp and cm9 are really similar so it just comes down to battery life and stability which is different for each person.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Aokp all the way baby, super stable and awesome battery. Way better than gb
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
I've been using shoshock lastest gingerbread build. it's great. I'm waiting for a while.
Running AOKP and it's running great.
Just flash Siyah's kernel and go for dual boot to check both Samsung and AOKP/CM9 roms together.
I've been running CM9 since the first nightly. I love it. My phone feels brand new and I don't feel like upgrade it, except I want LTE.
Thanks everyone. I flashed aokp for the extra settings and customization. Its been super stable so far and battery is good but will be better once it settles. Might try siyah might not???
Anyone recommend a Better modem? Have you been getting batter with gb ones or ics ones.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I'd go with CM9 nightlies simply because it's supported by ROM Manager which makes it ridiculously easy to flash new updates, which come very fast by the way...plus it's CM9. Good luck.
Cm9 is nice I use it on my tablet and note but lacks some features I know my girl requires.

I tested the latest LD3 but decided to change back to LC5, it is faster than the old modems and seems more stable in my area. I have been running AOKP for a while and love it.
I am enjoying CM9. Lots of Entropy involvement. Good team working on it.

That would be CyanogenMod. That is by far the closest you will ever get to a Nexus device, but you will be giving up a bit of battery life, many of the SPen functions, and MultiWindow.
What you will be getting in return, is the beautiful stock look, being on the latest android version, and having a completely "Debloated" ROM.
Ok, I've heard a lot about cyan, but never gave it a shot. Where do I get it from and is it easy to install. Do I do it through tw recovery like any other Rom?

That's the link to the official nightlies for CM 10.1, installation instructions are in the OP of course. Yes you do use TWRP recovery and install it just like any touchwiz rom. Personally AOSP roms always end up getting buggy on my device, YMMV.
If I were you I would look into TW roms that can give you an AOSP look. I'll edit in some links.

Normally I would say CyanogenMod or a Rom close to it. For this phone the S-pen is affected by the Rom you choose. A few of the Touchwiz Roms are pretty stable and the AOSP Roms removes most of the S-pen functionality. You should try a couple since everyone's experience is different. I'm running Beans Rom and it's pretty fast without changing any voltages.
I've used clean rom a few times and have always been happy. I usually use nova as well. I'm just liking for something that's fast, stable and doesn't have overwhelming options. Does any roms out there have the on screen keys like the nexus devices do?

For a good aosp rom, I would recommend a few of these.
1. ParanoidAndroid (my favorite)
2. AOKP
3. Cyanogen Mod (obvious good one)
4. LiquidSmooth
You will lose some nice tw features but there are some apps on the playstore that can give you similar spen features on aosp (don't want to post links as I don't own the rights). I myself would go for a tw ROM and just put nova launcher on there, but I love a great stock phone as much as the next guy. Hope I can help in some way but most Roms are just all opinion based. I would try around and post back your favorite.

I tried pa but got bad battery life and currently don't have time to flash and try them all
Waiting for this to be closed. LOL at all the "what's your xxx favorite?" don't be a sheep! Try them and decide for yourself. Make a backup and test. You can restore as fast as you flash if you need stability. All 3 are fantastic roms. I prefer pac or pa personally

If I may suggest a rom.....
Try Vanilla Rootbox, it has all the features of PA so it comes with HALO, quite a few from AOKP, and some of its own. Its always been perfectly stable for me. I would suggest trying the 6-23 nightly. If you aren't itching to flash immediately there will be a stable version of VRB out sometime in the next few days.

cool I'll try it out when the stable build releases
I switched from PACrom to the 6-21 nightly of Vanilla Rootbox and have had zero issues. GPS was an instant lock and that has never happened for me before. Faster than I was getting on PAC.
I'd download the 6-21 nightly and give it a whirl.

ROMS THAT DONT WORK SO FAR
AOSP Source Built
CyanogenMod Nightly
Why? I'm running 10.2, the 9/23 nightly. It's rock solid as have been all the nightlies for a couple of weeks now.
Any reason to go back to a 10.1 ROM?

For the simple fact that this is a stable release. Just because you experience no issues in your use of 10.2 doesn't mean others who do different things with their phones don't experience issues. Software can't be considered stable based on the experience of a few users.

Is this only for the dev devices sold directly from Samsung?
Forgive my ignorance, I've had the Gnex for the past couple years and that was a very easy phone to mod, and my original SGS was as well. I have been reading here but I wont have the S4 until later today so I have no idea what firmware version will come on it out of the box.. The [GUIDE] stickied isn't actually a guide but a list of ROMs with no explanation of anything for beginners to this phone. Can anybody point me to a better starting point? Because I am failing miserably to find any kind of guide or wiki or truly compiled info on this device.
Thanks ahead of time.
