I Have an Htc one X+ of coarse, and recently rooted it for the first time. After finding my way through that process fairly easily, I decided to try to flash a custom rom (Android Revolution HD 8.0). However I didn't put the necessary zip file in the internal storage before putting the phone in fastboot and flashing the new boot image. After that my phone entered bootloop or atleast i think its a bootloop. It basically just shows the htc quietly brilliant splash screen and sits there till i try to turn it off and then it goes off and then turns itself back on and repeats. However I can get it to fastboot and in to trwp recovery. So I have no back up of my original boot.img soo i just googled factory JB boot.img 4.1.1 and flashed that and cleared both caches and rebooted through twrp. Still bootlooped, so while reading on these froums i read that i should do a wipe of everything i did that so now i have no os at the moment. But after reading a post about a similar problem had by a galaxy user they flashed there there new custom rom boot.img and used adb to push the .zip file to internal storage however when i tryed to use the same command text they used it simply said device not found. so I'm at a loss for what to try next. I'm very Sorry for the long post but, any help at all would be appreciated.
P.S: Sorry for not being smart enough to find the answer on my on, thanks for your help in advance.
The boot.img you googled? Was it even for the HOX+ or just any JB boot.img?? You should be careful flashing any old boot.img could lead to corruption of the boot partition...
Anyway just for info sake, this isnt a bootloop, your device just isnt booting. There are two things you can do in this situation....
1) look in the android dev section for a stockish 4.1.1 rom. You just need one from a rom that isn't heavily modded like insertcoin or viper. You could also grab one of the custom sense kernels from the original android dev section..
2) You could flash the kernel you did originally, then boot into recovery and sideload the right rom to your device.

Thanks very much for the info and help I hope i didn't corrupt it. and I've never flashed a kernel before but Im sure i can find a tutorial. as long as I dont have to put any thing on internal memory sounds good to me. I guess sense I didn't have a kernal (atleast that i know of) the first time i guess i'll try 1. srry 4 being a noob btw.
EDIT: can i flash a rom from the computer without it being in internal storage?

Try booting the boot.img file manually from the ROM you downloaded (find it inside the zip)
you can do that by the fastboot method using your PC
Do this when you enter the bootloader menu.
"fastboot flash boot boot.img"

Sorry just to clarify. A kernel and a boot.img are the same thing. Depending on your hboot version and CID. There may be an RUU you can run from your PC to install stock firmware.
You can get your hboot version on your bootloader screen, and get your CID by using the fastboot command "fastboot getvar cid".
If we knew those maybe we could help finding the correct RUU (if there is one).

If you are trying to flash a custom ROM, then you could just sideload. TWRP (and some other recoveries) supports a process called sideload for when you forget to copy your ROM zip onto the internal storage - since phones like the HOX+ dont have a micro-SD slot for removable storage. Just google for sideload - plenty of tutorials.
The custom ROM zip will also contain the appropriate boot.img, so after flashing the ROM, all you then need to do is flash the boot.img. Hopefully all should be well then.

Also I'd like to mention I've tired to push a file to my storage using fastboot and adb, but adb didnt recognize my device was there, although i haven't tired running trwp and the sideloading method yet so i guess I'll try that next.
EDIT: ok I managed to sideload the custom Android Revolution HD custom rom and it flashed it as soon as it was loaded to the phone however after flashing it. it just continued to say I had no os. does this mean like you mentioned be4 that my boot thing is corrupted?

The boot image and zip folder were separate I loaded the boot image manually be4 flashing the rom through side loading. and also I reloaded the boot.img after it regestered no os after flashing but it still registers as no OS so If the boot.img is loaded i should have an os according to twrp right?
also I took the SIM card out and put it in a backup phone for now that wouldn't be a problem correct? thanks again for all the advice.

Are you definitely not trying to flash international roms? Because the CWS CID is AT&T right? Maybe you should just flash an RUU. I don't know if there are any for the AT&T version. Maybe one of the American members can help..

In Twrp it says there is no OS installed. right before reboot. even tho I loaded a boot.img and sideloaded a zip and flashed it. after flashing and every thing it still says no OS installed. but i went ahead and rebooted it anyway but it just sits at the HTC quietly brillant screen.
Thanks for the advice about the factory restore i didnt do it right be4 installing maybe i'll try that.
1. I notice that you say you flashed Android Revolution. afaik, that ROM is for the International version, not for AT&T. Have you checked you are using an appropriate ROM?
2. I am assuming you did the sideload procedure correctly? Did the ROM installation start after it finished copying over the ROM to the phone?

yes it did installed apps and things then when it was finished i was still in twrp in sideboot and it said reboot. but it still didn't register an OS. hmm maybe I should look specifically for an at&t custom rom. thank s for the advice.

I am a complete noob. Sprint Evo 3d 1.5 s-on, I have been running Viper IC3D for a month now, loving it,should have stuck with that. I wanted to try one of the Jelly Bean Roms, specifically the Team D.I.R.T. one, but I didn't want to have to keep flashing the two roms back and forth. Found out about Boot Manager Pro on here, and found a thread about using it with hboot 1.5 s-on. followed the instructions, booted into D.I.R.T. rom. fiddled with it, decided to go back to my phone rom. Boot Manager kept unexpectedly closing on me, wouldn't stay open long enough to do anything. So I went into recovery and restored my nandroid of Viper. But D.I.R.T. loaded! Said screw it, and wiped and reflashed Viper. D.I.R.T. loaded! Couldn't get anything but that ROM to load no matter what I did. Uninstalled Boot Manager, nothing but D.I.R.T.So I hunted around here and found a thread that said if all else failed, to manually remove Bootloader from sd and go from there. Did that, and it soft bricked my phone. I can get into recovery, but no matter what I do when I reboot it hangs in HTC white boot screen. I cannot afford another phone and don't get an upgrade til next year. Please Say there is a solution to this! I cried all last night, couldn't sleep, and I'm crying again. Side note, i accidentally erased half the C; Drive on my laptop trying things I found on another android forum, and system restore didn't work. So I'm back here, and I'm scared to try anything else, but I have to do something. Help!!!!!!
Flash the kernel. All will be well.
Viper rom should include boot.img.
Extract it to sdk-tools folder.
Open terminal, cd to sdk-tools directory.
Hold volume plus down on phone. Hit power button on fastboot option.
Plug in phone to computer. It should say fastboot usb on phone screen now. If not, install htc drivers.
Go to terminal. Type "fastboot flash boot boot.img
Should see some stuff happen on computer screen, phone will reboot.
Do that then report back.

You don't install sdk-tools. It's just a bunch if exe's in a folder.
That other thing you said, never heard of it.

Yes you can, as long as you have fastboot and adb in there you'll be good, just put the boot.img in the same folder

I'm doomed. I was able to flash CWM this way, although it didn't help me at all. But I tried to flash the boot img and it didn't work. Didn't seem to recognize the command.
I'm cdma s-on? So basically you relocked and flashed an RUU and then relocked?
try to relock and flash with RUU it will work
At first when you were unable to boot back to phone rom, you should have went into recovery and flash the update.zip located in the sdcard/bootmanager/phonerom.
Anyway try to flash back to viperrom again then boot your recovery via fast boot since you are not s-off. And flash the update.zip from the phone rom folder. If everything fails just relock your bootloader and use the ruu.exe and you should be fine.

The command is: fastboot flash boot c:\(navigate to the sdk map with boot.img)\boot.img
For instance. for me it's c:\Users\(my name)\boot.img
Because i have my sdk and boot.img in my User map.
I believe boot manager creates the files for the second rom on the sd card. maybe thats why the D.I.R.T rom is loading.. My advice, try a different sdcard and see if the viper rom starts (you still might have to flash the boot.img via adb because of s-on)
I have no idea where the files for second rom are created so maybe if someone else could help out here. Then it should be a simple matter of deleting the second rom from the sd card and then go ahead and flash your viper rom.

Yes you will have to get new code from htcdev. Though i wouldn't recommend updating hboot cause its known to cause some issues with some roms
Hi,
I am new here and this is my first post so forgive me if starting a new thread for this topic was wrong but I found my own situation slightly different from the others here who had the same problem.
I have a gsm unlocked rezound and was trying to get rid of the unknown sim error message at lock screen. I followed the steps mentioned on this thread --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882355. I rooted the phone, downloaded the apk. Deleted the .odex file and replaced the existing apk with the downloaded one and rebooted. Now, I am stuck at the lock screen with no icons. But for the other people who faced similiar issue, they were able to open the home screen. I can't. I can see pop ups for sms/mail. I get ring when a call comes in but I cant pick. I tried hard reset. Tried booting without sim/sd card. Still no luck. I tried connecting the phone to my pc but now my pc wont recognise the phone when its connected. I can see icon on top of the phone which says USB connected and I also see sync icon, but it will not go any further. I dont know how to get into the phone's menu now.
I may have bitten more than I can chew, silly me :crying:
If you guys can help me in any way, I would appreciate that a lot.
OS : 4.0.3 ICS Running HTC Sense 3.6.
A quick fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017932
Flash my debloater, choosing the Sense option(will be brought to a widget removal screen if you don' use them all) & AOSP lockscreen. Disadvantage to that though, you will have to unlock to see the caller id when it rings.

Thank you for the quick response. I have downloaded the file. I know this sounds stupid but I am a real rookie. I don't know how to do the flashing or how to get to the AOSP lock screen. If you could guide me through the process or maybe give me a link where I can learn it myself, it would be great.
Essentially since you already have rooted, you will(should) also have a custom recovery (TWRP, AmonRa, CWM). Install it as you would a regular rom but without any wipes until after flash of the zip. Dependent on which recovery you will want to look up their FAQ/QnA on how to wipe dalvik/cache.
Once you get inside the script, you will see what I meant by "Choose Sense & AOSP Lockscreen".

Yes the phone was rooted, but I used a rooting software from google apps from the phone. After I downloaded that app, it rooted the phone and brought in an extra icon. I remember it as SU root something, but I didnt do it from the pc. So I dont have any recovery on the pc. I used to sync the phone with htc sync. Unfortunately, right now, my pc wont recognise the phone. I tried root explorer for android from pc, it wont recognise the device. HTC sync too will not. But my phone seems to know when a USB is connected, it brings the usb icon on top but thats about it. ((
Ok, best suggestion at this point is to follow the instruction in the OP for installing TWRP in the Rezound development section.

I took the phone to a couple of places to check if it can be fixed, No one was able to fix it thus far, Any other advice or suggestions to fix this would be great. Any admins/mods have something to add ? Please, I am desperate to fix this phone. Anyway of doing this ?

From what they posted, somehow they don't have a custom recovery even though they are rooted?
Can you put a PH98IMG.zip file of a recovery (either Amon Ra or TWRP) on your SD card and flash it in hboot? Then flash a custom ROM the same way from recovery.
You can take the SD card out and mount it on your pc and use your pc to copy over the recovery PH98IMG.zip file.
And oh yeah, I see what Obaterista... was saying. You should be able to flash the latest RUU from hboot. Here's a link for it:

Ok i found the HK ruu. I am just going to try install that and use the images from there.
So far every other image gets me stuck on the flash screen. If anyone knows how to fix can you provide step by step help

Ok let's back up a step. Where in the world are you and what carrier are you using? Where the phone was manufactured has nothing to do with this.

australia and x.xx.708.x - Asia HK (Hong Kong). I think
I want to try lock my phone then install the RUU. Can i comfirm that if i lock it, i am able to unlock it if i am stuck on the flashscreen and cannot access the sd card driver
Yes. Just to confirm you are going to run fastboot oem lock then run the ruu.
I did the same this weekend.
Had to use a battery batch script to charge my phone to 10% and relock it.
Flashed the correct RUU after 30% charge (after i relocked and got to the splash screen again) and all was OK.
Havent found the time to flash a ROM, but it kinda scared me to try in the near future. Even though it probably was my own fault.
I was much more experienced a couple of years ago, when i was still at university, and had more than enough time on my hands. Now with a busy job, a baby etc. Its not that easy to keep up with these things.

So I tried overwriting cwm with twrp using a few methods i found online. The last one was this link here-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764398
I guess i didnt bother to see if it would work on our phone before screwing it up. Well anyway I ran that command and it basically wiped everything on my phone and Sense wont load up anymore.
I can boot into CWM still, and the phone boots up to the lock screen, but when i unlock it, it just goes to either a black screen or a white screen with green HTC written on it, then reboots.
What can i do to fix this? I have a backup saved on an external hard drive at home which i cant get to for another 10 hours -.-
But I tried running the "factory reset" option on CWM and it didnt help at all. Ideas?
Do u have the at&t x+ or the international x+?

U can only flash a Rom in custom recovery. And at this point u might not have the correct custom recovery on the device. Another thing is did u read the full instructions on how to run ruu? I wanna make sure that u don't run into any problems with this process

Is this an appropriate link for information on using the RUU?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841890
Or do i simply connect via fastboot, and then run the exe for our phone?
Also, is this the correct RUU?
http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/sec....55.17_18.20.95.55L_release_290329_signed.exe
Edit: Also, I have twrp 2.4.4.0 running on my phone now.
If you have TWRP working now on your phone, simply sideload an AT&T/TELUS rom of your chaoice and you should be good to go after that. Don't forget to flash the correspondent boot.img. Otherwise, yes this is the RUU you need for your phone. (CINGULAR)

Hmm, sideloading didnt seem to work. I have a file called "venom" on my phone now, but its still doing the same thing, and i cant get ADB to run again (adb devices returns nothing) to copy over boot.img either : /
im gonna try a few more times and then run RUU i guess...
edit: i ran RUU and it ran into an error, saying that the RUU isnt for my phone (even though it is?)
Attempting to run again. Will update with what happens...
edit2: same thing happened. What should i do at this point?
Exact error is:
Error [155] unknown error
rom update utility cannot update your android phone
please get the correct rom update utility and try again
Edit3: ok, this thing is really ****in with me. I was able to get sideload to actually work this time, venom installed and is booting up. Hopefully it makes it to the home screen this time >.<
You have to relock the bootloader and then run the ruu. http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/sec....55.17_18.20.95.55L_release_290329_signed.exe is the correct ruu for the at&t version. After the ruu is finished then you unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery. Then flash away If you don't relock the bootloader the ruu will fail and not install.

I recently bought a htc one x plus and as the person as i am, i quickly unlocked the bootloader, installed a custom recovery (ClockworkMod recovery) and kernel. But then i tried to flash a AOKP Jelly Bean 4.2.1 Custom ROM and after flashing it, it would just hang around the AOKP boot logo (a horse head with rotating rings around it). Then, without thinking, i relocked the bootloader (with a custom rom) to send it for warranty. Now, it would only go to the bootloader screen. After going through a few forums, i found out that this could be repaired by using the correct ruu for my device but they all say that i have to flash a stock recovery and boot.img before relocking the bootloader in order for the ruu to work. So my question is can i reunlock my bootloader to flash the stock recovery and boot.img without bricking the device and can flashing the correct ruu repair my phone. Please reply, i'm so desperate. The htc guys wanted me to pay $400 just to repair it and since i rooted the phone, warranty does not cover it.

You can unlock the boot again if you kept the code you received when you did it the 1st time round. Once you have unlocked it you can then flash any Rom. Did you make a nand backup before installing the custom Rom? If you did you can reinstall the custom recovery and restore the phone to stock.
I currently run the viper 3.4.2 rom, you could also install this after installing the custom recovery.

Hi Sharveen,
Please do youself a favor, and don't use the CWM Recovery, this Recovery is not adapted for this phone, I strongly suggest that you install TWRP Recovery, the latter is way more complete and rigorously tested on the HTC One X+.
TIP : Please read, read, read as much as you can before doing any changes to your phone, that can save you lots of problem.
First make sure your SDK tool (adb) is correctly installed and also the HTC's drivers. (There is a link for a tutorial in my signature.)
Download the correspondent recovery for your phone International OR AT&T/Telus (N.B. Links are available in the Sticky FAQ)
Flash the Recovery.
Clear Cache
Reboot in Recovery
DO A COMPLETE BACKUP OF YOUR ACTUAL ROM. BE SURE TO KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE
Install your correspondent version of any ROM.zip you want that is already on your storage. (Otherwise,Sideload a ROM to be able to flash one inRecovery)
Flash the boot.img of your desired ROM
Clear Cache Again
Reboot
Should work
Thank you soo much for replying and no, i did not make a nandroid backup when i tried to flash the rom. So can flashing a correct ruu repair my phone and hopefully get it back to stock rom...
Is your SDK/ADB tool correctly installed?

What is your software version?

If you want to flash a RUU you need to install the original Recovery then flashing the correspondent RUU. Just let us know what is your preference, but as far as I am concern, your original backup wasn't made too bad, but you can still install a modded ROM.
This is gonna be your call for the continuity.

You could try searching the forum to see if someone has a nand backup for your phone. Only problem with ruu's is they haven't released the more up to date ones, so if your phone had the latest ota I doubt you will be able to use the ruu method. Personally I would use a custom Rom until you can find a nand for your phone.

The original recovery will be contained in the %temp% folder created by the ruu when opened but do i have to flash the boot.img which is also contained in the folder and also most of the forums says that you have to flash the boot.img after flashing the recovery while some says that you could relock the bootloader and flash the ruu after flashing the recovery only. So in my situation, do i have to flash the boot.img or not.

if you unlock your phone, you can only "relock" it, it will not become "locked" forever, even use RUU program
