Please help. I have a Samsung Galaxy SII i777 (AT&T) that is constantly rebooting. It gets to the "Galaxy SII" logo and restarts itself. It started doing this while the phone was on the charger and was running slow. I decided to restart my phone and it hasn't worked since.
The phone has the stock firmware and has never been rooted. I am new to flashing anything to a phone. Can someone walk me through how to get my phone usable again? I downloaded Odin3 v3.09, but am completely lost on what to do next. Also, is there any way to recover my pictures?
Thank you for your help.
It might help to boot to recovery (power and both volume buttons) and wipe data and cache. You would not lose your pictures but you'd have to reinstall all your apps.

As Sharon stated your best bet would be to boot into recovery.
I believe to do this on the s2 you'll press and hold the up volume key and the power key until you see the Samsung logo then release the power key and hold volume up until android system recovery loads. If that doesn't work then try again with both volume keys.
One in the recovery do as Sharon suggested and if that doesn't work check to see what's on your SD card and if you're OK with losing whatever data isn't backed up I would recommend doing a factory data reset.
If your still having issues you could try doing an emergency firmware recovery with the Samsung kies software or flashing stock ROM.
Other than that you can contact Samsung and see if you're still under warranty for repair if its hardware related.
Hope this helps. Good luck with getting the phone up and running

@TKEBH964,
I'm not sure that performing a wipe data/factory reset from within recovery will solve your problem. It is, however, the first thing to try. It will not remove your photo album, so that will be safe.
Please post your results. If wiping doesn't solve the problem, then we will be happy to help you with the troubleshooting process.

I tried this and the phone says "Deleting cryption meta data" then goes back to the reboot loop it was doing before.

Holding volume up doesn't do anything. I did try with volume down and it get "Warning custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications. If you want to download a custom OS, press the volume up key. Otherwise, press the volume down key to cancel." Cancel will restart phone to infinite boot loop again. When I continue it says "ODIN MODE" at the top shows the green android guy and says "Downloading... Do not turn off target !!" The phone never downloads anything and will stay in that state forever.

There is a very specific instruction set for clearing nand r/w corruption. Before I give you the instructions, I need to know which operating system was on your phone. Had you updated to the latest firmware, UCMD8 4.1.2 Jelly Bean? Or was it still on an earlier version?

I bought my phone in April of 2012 and have never updated it, basically because I didn't want to deal with something going wrong. A lot of good that did me...

AT&T didn't release ICS 4.0.3 UCLE5 until about June of 2012, so I'm going to assume that you still have Gingerbread, either the original 2.3.4 UCKH7, or the 2.3.6 UCKK6 firmware.
1)Go to this post and download the Tar version of Siyah 2.6.14 Kernel. Use Odin3 v1.85 which you can get from near the top of the Download Repository and flash it in the PDA slot without ticking Re-Partitioning.
How to use stand-alone Odin3 to flash firmware:
Follow and recheck each of the following steps. Do them in order listed, as some steps are dependent on previous steps. Instructions are for Odin3 v1.85. It should work with any version of Odin, but some details, like color of items, may be different.
1.) Open Odin on the Windows Desktop.
2.) Have the USB cable plugged into USB port on the computer, but *Not* plugged in to the phone.
3.) Shut the phone off.
4.) While holding down the vol+ & vol- keys, plug micro-usb plug into phone.
5.) In Odin, you should get the yellow box under where it says ID:COM with the text 0:[COMx], and in the Message area, <ID:0/00x> Added!! where x is some number, usually 1-8.
6.) In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked and all other items are not checked.
7.) Click on the PDA button. Browse to the tar file you want to install and select it so its path appears in the text edit box next to the button.
8.) Make sure the check box next to the PDA button is checked.
9.) Click the Start button.
10.) You should see the green progress bar advancing.
11.) When completed, you will get a "PASS"
Click to collapse
2) Successful? Next, flash the full stock Gingerbread distribution from the Download Repository, from the section headed I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries including the bootloaders and everything, in the PDA slot.
3) If that is successful and the phone boots normally, you are done. If it is not, then enter recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset. If still not, then:
4) Download the SBL Bootloader from the Download Repository. Flash it as PDA in ODIN, without ticking Re-Partitioning.
5) Flash the Kernel, as in step 1.
6) Flash the full stock Gingerbread distribution, as in step 2.
If you are unable to get any of these to flash successfully (you don't get a PASS), first you should assume a bad port, or bad cable, and try other ports, other cables, even another pc.
I'm doubt you would have damaged memory, but just in case, here is the info.
(If you can get no flash to succeed, then you may have damaged eMMC memory. In case it is damaged memory, see this post from Mobile Tech Videos.)

I was successful with step 1!! Thank you very much.
I am attempting step 2, but am a bit confused (sorry). There are 4 files under the heading "I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries."
Which is the correct file?
I777UCKH7-CL503881-Full.7z
I777UCKH7-REV02-home-low-CL503881.tar.md5.7z
I777UCKH7-CL503881-Parts-NoBL.7z
I777UCKH7-CL503881-Bootloaders.7z

Pleased to be able to help.
Now you can use odin to flash the latest stock firmware. I would definitely recommend this. At the bottom of the page in the Download Repository, UCMD8 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
(Optional) If you want, you can then root the phone, and then possibly install custom firmware. If you decide to and need help with it, study the guides, and then ask.

I've read several threads about similar events, but none to match my problem.
I have this i777 from att, never rooted or flashed, just stock.
It started rebooting at logo screen (Samsung Galaxy SII logo).
I can get to "Download/Recovery mode" by using UP&DOWN+POWER.
Clearing Cache didn't fix it.
Now I'm afraid of doing the "Clear Data/Factory Reset" because I really need my data (and that's kind of the main purpose of this thread)
Can anyone help me a little?
I don't know much about, flashing, kernel and stuff but i can try if it's needed.
Thanks.
Make sure you are using the original battery. Some replacement batteries have what is called a "boot loop"

If your stock man, and havent done anything to the phone. Call at&t.
Or root it, and that'll most likely fix the mess that you got from samsung.
There is nothing to do if you dont want to do a reset.

If your phone wont boot, the files that are in the phone, are gone. can pull your sdcard out. but everything else is gone.
If I had issues, stock, before messing with anything. I'd send the phone back, or atleast talk to them, as we here, cant do anything for a stock system except advise a few things
But if that aint an option, start reading the stickies and guides in the Dev section.
Odds are you just need to clean it up with a wipe, never wiped a stock system before, not sure exactly what all it wipes. Hell, I've only ran a stock phone for maybe an hour before getting rid of the mess that providers leave you.

There could be several reasons for a stock phone to go into a bootloop like that. It could be a firmware problem or a hardware problem. There are two possible paths you could take. Normally, a wipe data/factory reset would be the recommended first step in troubleshooting the problem, so I'll start there. You would go into 3e recovery using the three button method and then select the "wipe data/factory reset" option.
When you do this, you will lose some things, and you will keep some things. Wipe data/factory reset does not touch USB storage, so you will keep all your files, photographs, data from applications that store their data on usb storage (some do, some don't). You will lose all installed applications and personal settings. You can back up a few things, most notably your contacts, and data from any application that has a backup facility in its settings. However, without root, you will lose quite a bit of stuff, like all text messages, etc. Since you are not rooted, you will not be able to back up your applications and data.
A second alternative would be to try to reinstall the stock firmware. Depending on which version of the stock firmware you have, you may be able to do this without losing any personal data, (in other words, without having to do a wipe data/factory reset.) You have to flash the same version that is currently on the phone. There are two versions of the stock firmware, the original 2.3.4 version UCKH7 and the later 2.3.6 version UCKK6. You need to know which one is on your phone first, and since the phone is bootlooping, you won't be able to look. So if you don't know, then you can use the best guess based on when the phone was purchased. If you decide to try this first, then I will be happy to help you figure out which one to flash. The basic instructions you will need are in the guide about returning the phone to the store or for warranty replacement which is linked in my signature.
Thank you so much, I'll go ahead and do the wipe/reset.. I only need photos.
And that guide is awesome, will stick to it for another i777 i have with the first ICS leak that is so buggy.
Thanks and I'll post if it works, get my pictures or if i need to go alternative.
Something went wrong while the wipe/reset process, now it won't get into down/recovery mode.. it appears it will but restarst again.
I'm on the alternative now, UCKK6 btw so i downloaded that package (rooted since i'm not coming to att). I'm using windows and going to check if I can interpret your guide in a way.
I don't recall seeing anyone post anything exactly like your issue. And I'm not sure what the problem is exactly. If you can get into download mode, you can try either the UCKK6 with root, or the UCKH7 with or without root. Instructions for going into download mode are in the guide. If you flash the UCKK6 with root, and the attempt to wipe data did nothing, then if it recovers, you may still have access to your personal data.
finally out of boot loop and working like a champ!
Installed Drivers (SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe)
Used motherboard bound USB port
Up&Down+Cable = Odin Mode
Using Odin3-v1.85.zip
did (in PDA):
1.- uckk6_stock_rooted.tar
2.- SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar
(using Volume Up&Down+Power after this one got rid of the "Deleting Cryption Meta Data", Then went into USB mass storage mode and recovered all my photos to secure them)
3.- Siyah-v2.6.14-att.tar
my phone now works, thinking maybe in another rom, any recomendations?

I don't know of any solution other than replacing the micro USB port on your phone. It is, however, a fairly easy repair. No soldering required. Also, fairly inexpensive. You should do some research to find out the information you need, what board to buy, specific disassembly and reassembly instructions, etc.

Okay. So now you can charge the battery in the phone, transfer files, and put the phone into download mode? (I think you called it the custom OS screen.) In other words, the USB port now works correctly? So now you need to use Odin to flash the stock firmware.
You didn't say what version of the operating system your phone is running. Since you posted in this old thread which has a title "My stock I777..." I assume you are on some version of stock. You should use Odin3 v1.85 (preferred) to flash the latest stock firmware distribution, which is I777UCMD8 which you can get from the download repository.
If you are unfamiliar with using Odin, here is a set of instructions.
11.) When complete, you will get a PASS (or FAIL if unsuccessful).

When you download the stock firmware distribution from the Download Repository, it will be compressed in a zip archive, 7zip actually, and you must extract the file from the archive with an archiving program such as 7zip. When you extract it, it will have the extension ... .tar.md5. This is what we refer to as the "tar file." It is actually a Linux "tape archive" which has also had an md5 sum attached to it. When you select this file in Odin, with the .tar.md5 extension, Odin will check the md5 sum to verify that the file is not corrupt, and then it will flash the contents of the .tar file to your phone.

Hey guys, new here (obviously). I'm also fairly new to flashing/rooting on Android in general.
I flashed my phone to one of the leaked ICS international versions (when I boot up my phone it says "Samsung Galaxy SII GT I9100" from Gingerbread. I did this a couple of days ago. There are a few problems main one being I can't use the phone app for my phone (ironic).
So since the ICS official version for the US AT&T phone came out, I was wondering.
How can I flash my phone to the stock ICS version? Any help would be great and I hope I did not post in the wrong section :\
Thanks so much in advance guys.
Download KIES, install the proper drivers, plug in your phone, update.
Although you probably messed up your phone flashing firmware for the wrong model....
BTW, you might want to at least make an attempt to read before making a thread. There is a thread already dedicated to upgrading your phone to the official AT&T Gingercream Sandwich update
At least pretend to look like you are genuinely interested. Or you know, follow the rules you agreed to upon signing up in the forums

I don't think the standard method is working. Just shows the battery on screen.
and in response to the kies reply; when I plug in the phone and sync it up with kies, kies says "Your device does not support firmware upgrade through kies" or something along those lines.
In response to the other guy, I'm terribly sorry, maybe you could help by posting a link to that thread? I tried looking around seeing if there was anything related to my issue and I couldn't find anything. Forgive my noob status?
Thanks guys.
I used the method that worked though. Held down power, vol down, and home..

looks like you need to read around and learn how to flash the secondary bootloader for UCKH7. It will change it back to the correct boot screen too. At least, that's what I think. I had to do it the other day after working on rooting the new LE5 stock.
Read the links in Creepy's signature.
To return your phone to I777 stock, flash the UCKH7 CL503881 stock binaries. The one-click downloader is the easiest. You will find the firmware in the Download Repository, link in my signature. This is the package that includes bootloaders and param.lfs.
Edit: I have been assuming you have the I777. This is true isn't it?
After you are at UCKH7 stock, you can use kies to update to stock ICS, or you can flash UCLE5 which is also in the Download Repository, at the bottom.
kk. I think what I'm gonna do is flash is completely back to stock gingerbread using one of his links and odin.
and plug it in through kies and see if that works to update it to ICS official.
Thanks guys! Sorry I caused such an uproar.
Thanks Creepy!! I will do just that
yes that is correct; I have the SGH-I777 At&t Samsung Galaxy S2.
It appears the one click exe that reverts my phone to stock software actually STOPS and "FAIL"s on the part where it's flashing the "cache."
My phone says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
Fortunately when I went download mode the top right corner says SGH-I777
instead of the international version.
I've tried the one-click several times and it still does not work. :\
Any advice?
Edit: Kies is not recognizing my phone ; "device not responding"
thanks again.
Make sure you have the USB Debugging mode turned off. It took me a few minutes to figure that out when I was trying to upgrade from Gingerbread to ICS via Kies earlier.
Not sure what's hanging it up. From your report, it appears that the secondary bootloader was successfully flashed. Do you recall what other steps completed before the fail?
You should be able to boot into recovery by holding vol+, vol- and pwr. Hold down until you enter recovery. Then wipe data/factory reset. Then try to flash the UCKH7 stock package without bootloaders. The link is in the return to the store guide linked in my signature. Or flash one of the stock plus root packages.
Hey thanks Creepy!
I really hate using the one-clickers, had no luck with 'em :|
I'd much rather use the blank Odin 1.85 exe I have that lets you fill in the files.
If I use that and the ---Return/Unbrick to Stock + Root: I777_UCKH7_OCD_Root_No_BL.7z (This contains the kernel, rooted system image, and modem.)--- download, what do I use for the bootloader slot or do I leave that empty?
thanks

That's a one-click downloader. If you want to flash the full package, there is a tar.md5 file in the Download Repository with everything in it, but it's all in one package, including the bootloaders, so you put it in the pda slot and it's the only file you flash.
In the Download Repository, there are also tars for Entropy512's packages which you can flash in Odin3. They are also one file tars and go in the pda slot. You can read about each one.
I'm not sure you need to flash the bootloaders again. I'd try to wipe data/factory reset and then flash a stock package without bootloaders first.
Applied the one-click with root Flash and now I'm back to gingerbread.
gonna see if I can get ICS working through kies..
looking good!!!
So my phone won't open.
I keep clicking the android but it keeps saying the google services framework has crashed.
and it won't connect to kies..
any ideas?

Since ur rooted why not just flash the rom in cwm? The official release is found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650948

thanks bud!
I guess you just drop that file onto the phone using file explorer and USB connection,
then go into recovery to update via cwm?

---Make sure you have the drivers installed for your SGP 5.0 USA (capacitive buttons)----
-This has worked for me whenever I enter boot-loop during installing a ROM.
-Download a stock firmware (this one is for US ((capacitive buttons)) Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520728
-Download a .pit file/partition file (contains it for all SGP's): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472897&goto=nextnewestz
-Boot into downloading mode (Volume down first, then power button, release when an triangle and Android guy using a shovel is shown)
-Open up odin
-Click on "PDA", and select "ueki8_min.tar.md5", that should be the stock ROM you downloaded (where ever you saved it), then click "PIT" and select your SGP 5.0 .pit file, which should read "G70-GalaxyPlayer5.0-8gig.pit"
-Press "Start", the process should take 2-5 minutes, it might freeze at some point in time but it's still working. You will know it's finished when it says "PASS" in the first, top right box.
-Then boot into recovery mode (Volume UP, then power), but what is important is that you release the second the triangle/android shovel is gone and shows a black screen or else it will go to a battery charging.
-Then you select "Wipe data/factory reset" and "Wipe cache partition", then "reboot system now" and then your SGP should be able to boot at this point.
*An extra note, the stock ROM I linked is rooted, but it's basically the same as STOCK ROM, with all the Samsung Bloatware.
And to remove the root, you have to get Root Browser from the Play Store and delete "Superuser.apk" in "System/app" and delete "su binary" in "system/bin. After you delete those two files, reboot and you should be unrooted.
(tell me if there is a problem with my guide, or if you have a problem.)
I have followed the instructions but I can't boot into recovery for some reason it only bootloops when I try using the stock rom. entropy kernel + rom is fine but stock rom and kernel only cause boot loops :/
Nevermind i'm ok lol messed around with it for about 20 mins and eventually got it working. Not even sure how to explain how i did it

Old(ish) thread but since someone used it recently and may in the future might I recommend you note that any attempt to resurrect a device will be best accomplished using a STOCK Samsung usb cable. Speaking from many experiences it is very possible that a device will not be recognized using the pc tools without the stock cable. Just a recommendation. Thanks.
I have search for days to figure out how to unbrick my sgp 5, this however is the most complete and simple guide that have fix my problems after several bricks trying to install custom roms while the forum as down, with bad info on google. I would like to add to make sure that KIES is installed as the drivers become unrecognizable after a brick. Thanks for this post, hardest thing was finding the exact files for the US version as there several out there, the ones you listed worked perfectly together and recovery mode takes a few tries.

Well how do I make sure I have these drivers?
I have a boot loop when charging device when off and device attempts to load the charging status system.
Anyway I recently installed a new ROM and kernel and the capacitive buttons are dead now (their leds are still on, but they don't actually do anything).
I thought finding out about the driver you were talking about might lead me to a solution.
Does the Odin Version matter?

Help for noobeeee pleeeease.
I've read lots of posts on this, but I am not that experienced. So I am asking for easy to follow instructions.
Basically, my phone will not reset. I go thru the options, but when the phone reboots, nothing has changed.
There is one error msg when it goes thru the reboot:
Can't access to '/system/csc/ATT/system/
It as if it does not accept any changes. If I erase an app, reboot, the app is back again.
Any help is appreciated. Again, please do not send me to other threads that have instructions to root, reflash, etc....I need easy steps.
Also, I have a MAC. Thanks.
So you've read a lot of posts, and haven't grasped the meaning of them yet. Since I wrote some of the main guides, I don't know if my answers here will be any more understandable to you.
You will need to provide more information before I can tell what the problem is and make suggestions. What does the following mean? For instance, how exactly are you trying to reset the phone? What options are you referring to.

This probably means that you are not rooted and are trying to remove protected files, or it may mean that you are rooted and trying to remove protected files while the file manager is in read only state.

I've done both reset options: though settings / privacy / factory data reset, and

Hold all three buttons, vol- vol+ and pwr until the splash screen appears the second time, then release the buttons. Phone will boot into recovery. It should say 3e recovery, which is the recovery that comes with the stock firmware. In recovery select the "wipe data/factory reset" option. The phone will reboot.
This wipe data/factory reset process basically removes all information from the /data partition, and returns it to factory default state. All user installed applications and personal settings will be gone, and the phone will be essentially like it was when new.
If you have gone through this exact procedure and not gotten this exact result, then there is something strange going on.
Please do the above exactly as described, and also confirm that the recovery you have says "3e recovery."

Go to the Download Repository (see my signature) to find the various versions of stock. For stand alone Odin, you want a .tar file. You can also download the Odin3 v1.85 package from a link there.

Oh. Sorry, I forgot you mentioned that. No this is for Windows PC.
You can most likely flash from a Mac using the Heimdall command line tool. It is not as straight forward. Can you get access to a PC to do this? That would be somewhat easier for you since the learning curve is not as steep.

No. You don't want the secondary boot loader.
Download from the "I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries" section and choose the second item, "I777UCKH7-CL503881 FULL tar.md5"
Flash that in Odin just as it is. You don't have to remove the md5 extension. This is 2.3.6, the same version you have on the phone.

You need to have the "Samsung usb driver for mobile phones" installed on the pc. I don't know windows 8, but if you find it listed in the place where you can uninstall programs then it is installed. If it is not installed, go to this page on the Samsung website and find the download at near the bottom of the page.
When the driver is installed, go back to the post where I gave the directions for flashing. In step 7, you select the .tar.md5 file just as it is to put into the pda slot.

Please help! My AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 is stuck in a boot loop.
Unfortunately, I don't have backup of either my contacts or photos/videos. I don't mind about restoring the apps.
Information:
1. Samsung Galaxy SII SGH-i777 bought in USA.
2. Never changed any binaries. The phone has been running on the original Android OS ver (Android 2.3.4, I think) came with the shipped S2.
3. Phone was unlocked by me after getting the unlock code from AT&T and was being used outside US.
4. Not sure about the cause of boot loop. Didn't install any new apps. Had browser opened and tried to restart, stuck in boot loop.
Please help by providing answers.
1. Is there any chance of getting my contacts and photos restored?
2. By going through different forums, I understand that a factory reset may fix the problem, but I believe this process will wipe contacts /photos. Is it correct?
3. If answer to the above question is YES, will trying the option "wipe cache partition" before "wipe data/factory reset" gives any chance of restoring the contacts/photos.
4. Does the unlocking of my phone will have any effect on doing "wipe data/factory reset", if necessary.
5. If "wipe data/factory reset" also does not work, which kernel/software should I be using to flash through odin. I would prefer to go the same Android version as it was?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@vlmaadir,
The good news is that since the phone boots, and you never updated it, then we are NOT worried about the superbrick bug, if you end up using the factory reset option. Since you're probably on the stock 3e (or earlier?) recovery, then I'm not sure that you have many options other than wiping cache partitions, a factory reset from recovery, or using ODIN to flash the stock firmware. Only the first option of those mentioned would retain your contacts.
A factory reset typically wipes /data, and both caches.
Android stores photos on the internal sd card, away from the partitions that are wiped during a factory reset, or when firmware is written via ODIN or phone recovery.
There may options to format sd card (or similar) which would wipe everything out. don't do that.
In general, your photos and videos are safe.
Your contacts on the other hand? I'm not sure how to recover those without having a custom recovery, they are buried into the binaries of the /data files.
We'll see what others have to suggest.
---------- Post added at 03:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:19 PM ----------
--to your last question, If you end up using ODIN to restore, I recommend the newer UCMD8 4.1.2 firmware, but if you prefer to use the same version then UCKH7 2.3.4 is still available. @creepyncrawly 's "download repository" is down for a while, so I'm not sure where t point you to find it.
Thanks for the reply, cyril.
Relieved that photos can be recovered.
If I have to flash the software using odin (original software), should I be downloading 'I777UCKH7-CL503881-Full.7z" under I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries OR I777_UCKH7_OCD_No_BL.7z under "I777 UCKH7 Return/Unbrick to Stock (or Root) Odin3 One-Click Downloaders".
Anyways I can do this only after creepyncrawly 's "download repository" is up..I am waiting...
Other experts, out there.. any suggestion on how to recover my contacts. Any kind of help would be great.
What are the chances of having the phone up and running with just an "erase cache".
Also, recovering my phone using wipe data / flashing using odin has any effect on the phone being unlocked.
Is it safe to assume that when flashed, it by default goes to AT&T and it asks for the unlock code when the phone is restarted after a non-AT&T SIM is inserted.
Should I have SIM in the pone when doing a wipe data / factory reset or flashing?
Sorry if these are dumb questions...

Well, yes, except I would have to upload it somewhere. Although I can't imagine why you would prefer the older stock Gingerbread firmware over the newer stock Jelly Bean firmware, which has a good link in the download repository. You can download all versions of stock firmware from sammobile/firmware. You have to register on the site to be able to download. When you go to the site, there is a search box in the black bar at the top right. Put SGH=I777 in that box and search.

I don't know if that would clear the problem, but it certainly can't hurt the phone. Go ahead and try clearing cache if you haven't already tried it. Unless you have backed up your contacts to your Google account in the cloud, you will not recover them unless you can get the phone to boot normally without performing a wipe data/factory reset.
Also, recovering my phone using wipe data / flashing using odin has any effect on the phone being unlocked.

2. So again went into the recovery mode and selected wipe data/factory reset. It displayed
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
suddenly, the phone got re-started and again stuck in boot loop. Not sure what happened. Please note that the phone was fully charged.
3. Again went into receovery mode again, it shows up "Deleting Cryption Meta Data" and followed by boot loop....
I guess wiping the cache before going to "wipe data/factory reset" has screwed up my phone. Had I gone directly to "wipe data/factory reset", I could have my phone up and running and could able to use it (ofcourse with all the contacts lost). This is just a guess and I may be wrong.
At this stage, I dont think I have any other option except flashing stock binaries.
Now, I am sure I lost all my contacts. I am concerned if my photos/videos are also lost.. I still hope I could able to retrieve my photos/videos after flashing the new firmware.
Moving forward to solve the problem at hand,
As per your post here and the referred post "Deleting Cryption Meta Data" looks to be a difficult problem to solve.
After going through the posts, apparently it requires I777UCKH7-CL503881 FULL Odin3 One-click Downloader.
As this is not currently available in your sig, tried to get it from sammobile/firmware. But there also the stock firmware is on Hotfile server.
As per your suggestion though of trying Jelly bean in place of I777UCKH7-CL503881 FULL Odin3 One-click Downloader.
Refering to the fourth post in this thread,
"For 1": Will be doing it using I777UCMD8 Full Odin Flashable tar from your repository.
"For 2. and 3" Not able to get the kernel from the link. Where can I get the kernel. Is it compatible to the Jelly Bean/
"Follow 4. and 5. then for 6." As per this Siyah kernel does not support Jelly Bean... any way out?
By all means, it looks like I can't proceed without 'I777UCKH7-CL503881-Full.7z" under I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries from your sig.
Is my understanding correct?
Please help me in making my phone up.
Thanks a lot for your support...

You lost any possibility of recovering the contacts from your phone when you performed the wipe data/factory reset. They are stored in the data pertition which was erased. If you did not have them backed up to google server through your google account, then you will not be able to recover them. But I think you had lost them anyway, because you would not have been able to get the phone to boot without performing a wipe data/factory reset.
Your pictures should be fine. They normally are stored on the internal sdcard which is not touched when you perform a wipe data/factory reset, or install new firmware.
The "deleting cryption metadata" message seems to indicate nand read/write corruption. You seem to have found my posts on fixing that. You will need to use the Gingerbread Siyah kernel and the UCKH7 full distribution with Odin3 v1.85. I am not sure if substituting a Jelly Bean kernel and UCMD8 would work for this, and also I don't have a tar of the Jelly Bean sbl.bin.
I am currently trying to upload the needed files to my dev-host account. It is going very slow. I and my family will be going out for Christmas dinner and I will update the links you need in the Download Repository when I get home later this evening, assuming the upload goes through successfully.
Edit: The required files are up and linked in the Download Repository.

Relieved that I would be able to recover pictures/videos, at least..

Shall be following the instructions in this post.
For the first step, I would be using "I777UCKH7-CL503881-Full.7z".
For step 3, I believe I should be using SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3 kernel tar, as my phone would still be in boot loop. However I am not able to get SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3 kernel tar as the Media fire link provided here is not working. Can you please provide the tar?
After successfully flashing SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3 kernel tar, I should be able to perform steps 4 and 5. I don't have any SD card. do I still need to do step 5. Doing this would not effect my pictures/videos, right?
For step 6, I shall be flashing Siyah kernel tar using Odin.
I understand I should be disconnecting the USB cable everytime I complete a flshing. Is this correct?
Please let me know if I am missing any thing.

Don't use the post you linked above. Follow the sequence in this post instead. The correct links are included. Follow the steps in order 1 - 6.

thanks for the response, creepyncrawly.
Problem at hand for me is more like the one given in this thread (Deleting Cryption Meta Data). I was thinking of following post 4 of this thread. Moreover there are couple of success stories when these steps are followed in the same thread.
The the sequence in this post you referred above looks to be a different problem.
Are you sure, you still want me to follow the later one (one which has flashing the secondary boot loader)?
Would be waiting for your response....

The two sequences are not really that different. The "deleting cryption meta-data" message seems to indicate nand read/write corruption. The sequence in the thread that you posted includes flashing someone's 5.0.2.3 kernel, for which both links are dead, and which I'm not really sure is necessary. It also has you flash the same Siyah kernel and the same stock UCKH7 full tar. It also has you perform a wipe data/factory reset, which should be part of both sequences, and it has you format SD card, which I don't believe has anything to do with recovering the system. The difference in sequence may or may not matter. Here are the two sequences in short form:
"Deleting cryption metadata"
1. UCKH7 full tar
2. Some 5.0.2.3 recovery (which is no longer available)
3. Siyah kernel v2.6.14 tar
4. Done.
"nand r/w corruption"
1. Siyah kernel v2.6.14 tar
2. UCKH7 full tar
3. Done.
Or if that doesn't do it
1. UCKH7 SBL
2. Siyah kernel v2.6.14 tar
3. UCKH7 full tar
4. Done.
@vlmaadir,
Please post your results once you try this. The information will be helpful for everyone.

Started trying to install siyah kernel.
I opened the odin 1.85 and connected the phone thru USB. Phone displayed Downloading screen. But, COM port does not get yellow in Odin.
I have the battery in the phone. I think I am not using the same cable which I got it from Samsung (used a secondary cable).
I didn't know what to do. so closed odin. Removed the phone from USB.
sorry if these are dumb questions...
should I have the battery out of the phone before I connect?
should I use the original cable only? I don't have the original cable, though.
should I have any drivers installed?
I didn't know what to do. so closed odin. Removed the phone from USB. Now, the phone is displaying "Downloading" "Do not trun off target!!"..... What should I do now. can I switch-off the phone using power button or if it doesn't work then by removing the battery, ?
Please some one help asap..
thanks,

No. You would only do this if you can not get into download mode any other way.

Cable could be one reason that Odin doesn't see the phone, but the more likely reason is either drivers, or usb port.

You must have "SAMSUNG USB driver for mobile phones" installed on the Windows pc. If you have the required drivers, you will see the above line in Windows Uninstall or Change a program dialog. If you need them, download them from the Samsung site, or from here.

Awesome.. it worked.
It worked.. thanks a lot creepyncrawly...
It was drivers issues.. once installed everything worked....
1. Installed Siyah kernel v2.6.14 tar using odin 1.85. Rebooted. It displayed Samsung galaxy i9000 with a yellow triangle.
2. then installed I777UCKH7-CL503881-Full (UCKH7 full tar) using one click downloader. It uses different version of odin, but fine.
3. and thats it.. it is all Done.
Fyi.. it did not ask for any unlock code when I inserted my local SIM (remember, I am currently outside US).
and finally the most important.. My Pictures are intact..... :good:
creepyncrawly.... you are awesome buddy.... Thanks a lot again.
Hope this post would be useful for all of you over there... If any questions to know what I did in detail... pls don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks and signing-off with a lot of joy..
