[Q] On the search for a new ROM - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi ..
I'm currently running the Archidroid 2.1.4. I do love it, the resolution options, the customisable settings window, the speed, stability, and endless options of the Novalauncher.. but 2 things are just causing me to search for a new rom...
I wondered if anyone could recomend a rom to use that has similar features to Archidroid, but doesn't have the drawback that Archidroid has whereby when making a phone call the network drops out.. apparently this is a known feature of Cyanogen... as I use my S3 for my tethered internet link at home, it's a real prob as whenever I talk on the phone my network drops out...
Also, as I'll be changing ROM I wondered if anyone has a link to a good back up app (I have Titanium but not a 100% sure how to use it) so that I won't loose all my apps / dictionary / bookmarks and SMS etc...
Thanks for any support you can provide...

What rom best rom posts are not allowed .
All roms have a full description and user feedback.
Suggest you have a look at what was called carbon on the Play store and read the TB instructions .
Basics read first.

Hi..
Thanks for the response on TB, I'll go take a look...
Not really asking for a 'best rom' I'm just asking for any recomendations with features of DPI and stability with the cuztomisation that Archidroid has, not really sure how that breaks rules? Is that not just a discussion openner?

Anyone tried the new Android 4.0.1 ROM for S2?

I've read the info at SamMobile (related to SamFirmware).
Anyone tried the ROM? From the comments, there are still plenty of bugs...
Edit: Whoever rated this thread 1star is a true moron and a real idiot.
This is a developer site where people do use beta versions.

There are several threads around here already concerning people using this ROM, so yes, people have used it. General consensus is that it's too unstable for daily use.
I'd be tempted to 1-star this thread as well due to lack of searching on your part.

Well I'll be nice and respond to you.
I've played around with the XXKP1 ROM and for the most part, it was surprisingly stable.
The default launcher IS quite temperamental, so I installed the Trebuchet launcher and 90% of the FC's disappeared. This launcher is a MUST on these leaked ROMs for the time being.
In order to get the best possible experience with these leaked ROMs you need to:
* Install the Bezke XXKP1/2 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393569) - Flashable through CWM and is pre-rooted and also has the RIL fixes for 3G data
* Change the default keyboard to the standard Android one as soon as you can one to stop the keyboard FC's.
* Install the Trebuchet launcher (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=821149&d=1324230099) - and place it in /system/app folder. It should open when you press the home button. Set it as the default launcher.
* Stop the media scanner from running - it's a BIG battery drainer - go to Settings/Applications/Running and stop it there, and also stop the cached process
* Turn off key press sounds and lock screen sounds - having these on causes a continuous partial partial wave lock called 'AudioOut_1' - battery drainer
* Install these Calendar apks (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19448865&postcount=2) in /system/app to get the calendar working. Once in /system/app, click on them both to install them. The Calendar will now work
* If you want to use the Contacts.apk and Phone.apk from the 'vanilla' ICS ROM (instead of the installed TW ones) download those APK's (http://www.multiupload.com/6T0019180O) and put them in /system/app. Don't install the MMS.apk though it will break things!
* Turn off the red border from appearing on some screens by going to the Dev Tools App > Development settings > strictmode visual indicator > put it in OFF MODE - then reboot for this to take effect
Battery life then falls to normal levels. Be aware though that when you connect your phone to your computer to transfer files etc, that a media scan will be run again when you disconnect. You'll have to force stop the media scan again otherwise it will keep running.
What rom? That's been kept quiet hasn't it? Certainly no info or discussions anywhere on these forums about it
Everyone will 1-star this because you didn't bother to search before starting a new thread on the same topic!

Are you for real? I've been a forum member on many sites (not to mention developing vBulletin forum software) since forever, I know how to search. Not to mention that the SamMobile post was made today...
Edit: My bad, I apologize. Just found the thread now... it was not on the first page of results when I initially searched and I never look further than a page (like anyone else I guess). Still, rating a thread 1star is really a baby game. Why not just post the link instead? This is a discussion forum where people communicate, not a Nazi camp where the Moron Patrol votes 1's on everything they think is stupid.
Searching, always searching...
The search here can be finicky, but a google search on site:forums.xda-developers.com is generally good, and fairly up date as well.

Foxhound 3.0 testing results

Hi all,
This is my first time posting in this forum but after reading some of your replies in the main thread, I figured that I'd give some of my input too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486199
Defect list
- Video call not working unless used with 3rd party apps (Skype etc) [KNOWN]
- High battery drain using 3rd party video calling apps [KNOWN]
- No Swype feature, I thought this was supposed to be a stock feature with all mods/custom roms but Foxhound doesnt have it for some reason.
- Voice search on Google/Google Search widget doesnt record voice and always shows an error
- Attaching media to SMS via share option doesnt attach on first try. I'll have to create an SMS and then attach pics, files etc thru the msg rather than the other way around. This worked great in ICSrewd and some other ROMS but not on this one.
Otherwise I'm pretty satisfied with the ROM, its quite stable and has given me the best battery life I could ask for even running live wallpapers. My average battery time varies anywhere from 16-21 hrs depending on light to moderate usage.
I watched 3 movies back to back and was still left with 30% charge on the phone.

You really should ask the developer, which he isn't in this forum.
Check the i9100 section.

I tried to but since this is my first post ever, I cant post directly into the Android development forum or is that not what you were referring to?
By the way how do I contact the dev directly? or is that not possible?

You need to post in the I9100 forum....go to the very top right of the screen where it says "FIND YOUR PHONE" and type in I9100 and find the thread your looking for.
Got it! Thanks

Samsung Galaxy S2 GT - I9100

Hello,
I have this Samsung Galaxy S2 GT - I9100, which I originally rooted when it had Gingerbread 2.3.4, then using Mobile Odin I flashed it ICS 4.0.3, XXPLQ. Everything went smooth. Until a few hours later when a few apps started disappearing. 12 total. I tried restoring them with titanium backup (from a backup I had done before flashing ICS) but it won't let me do it. I can't reinstall the apps from Google Play either.
Any ideas on what should I do?
Please explain with as much detail as possible. I'm still new to the flashing roms world
Thanks,

hi and welcome to the forum.
to improve the chance of getting good answers, you should change the thread title to something like "disappearing apps after ics update" or something similar. just stating the device's name is redundant, as you are in a section of the forum, which deals exclusively with that model.
also, questions go in the q&a section, but don't worry, i reported it to be moved.
also, you should post, what specific apps you are talking about and of what kind they are, are they free or paid, are they generally available on the play store for your country? have you checked the play store from a pc to look for those apps? ...and so on. being really specific makes it way easier to help.
Hello, you are correct, i'm sorry for the title and lack of more info. I can't edit the thread title so, if you or any other moderator can do so, feel free to do it.
About my problem, I could not give more details because there was no much relevant info to give. There were 12 apps total that suddenly disappeared after flashing. Among those were:
2 games from Game Insight (Airport City and My Country)
Mobile Odin
Akdiko Reader
Mantano Free Reader
Complete Edition UEFA.com
Amazon.com Android App
Virtual City playground
Angry Birds Space Premium
and a couple more I can't recall
I didn't see anything in common among those apps, except the error was that it couldn't install on usb storage or sd card.
An hour ago, a friend of mine pointed out to me that I had a problem that I should look for the sd fix, and directed me to download CF Root 5.4 (I used CF Root 5.3 to root the phone after flashing the firmware).
Apparently there is a bug with 5.3 that caused this on some games and apps (no idea why). So, I flashed the new kernel root and all is well, I was able to restore the apps and data with Titanium.
I guess this same bug caused these apps to "vanish" in the first place.
Thanks for trying to help and sorry I failed stating my problem better. I hope now that I explained my issue and solution helps others.
If a any mod read this, please change the thread title accordingly.
Best regards,
formatting your phone is the best idea
Hi there!
I just want to ask a question, i know it's so noob, and against rules, but can you please recommend me the best or i mean i want to speed up my sgs2, i'm not satisfied with the performance of the official ics update from samsung kies. And i experience crashes with this.
Browsing the forum there's tons of different erent roms etc but what can you recommend that i should get? Thank you and i apologize

Importing basic phone Settings to different custom ROM?

Hello,
long time no post here^^
I just got myself an S3 and coming from an i8000 with Window Mobile I had a LOT to read and "study" these past few days^^ (I almost didn't touch a smartphone in 2 years too... long story)
After flashing a couple of ROMs and reinstalling my apps with Titanium Backup, I got a bit bored of having to revise all the Settings manually.
Is there a way to somehow save the many Settings and restore them on a new ROM? On WinMo it was easy to make a .reg file with all my favorite settings to apply on a new ROM but here I have no clue (as I also read it's not possible/good to backup system data from a ROM to a new one)
Any suggestion to at least make the process a bit easier? to at least preserve settings such as my preferred vibration strength, ringtone, screen timeout, font size, etc
Thanks! (and sorry in case I missed something obvious... I exposed myself to really a lot of new stuff in just 2 days and I am bit overwhelmed with searching new apps, ROMs and themes, learning about the OS and rooting, discovering the phone features and accessories/cases, etc)
Not possible at all?
There are multiple posts asking this question .
Use search as i have vowed not to reply to such questions if their is an R in the month .
jje
Would you care to provide me some keywords for my search? I tried something like "import settings to new rom" and the like but nothing relevant come up... just some references to Titanium Backup (as I wrote before in my post) or unanswered questions similar to mine or just about importing apps/contatcs/logs/etc
Thanks anyway
Anyone? the post above gave me some hope but I really can't find anything I wonder what I am doing wrong... usually I am not so dumb @[email protected]
One last try before giving up^^

[Q] Q&A for [ROM][Android 4.4.2][HellKat]CM11 for E120L/S

Dear Socim,
I have installed your room on my E120l. It is a great job. Thanks a lot to you. :good:
But it has some several bugs need to fix. I m sure it will make this room outstanding if you give your valuable time to fix those things. I am going to mention the exact bugs which need to fix.
1. People hear too low if i use headphone.
2. Video camera quality is too poor.
3. Screens blink out slightly some times.
4. Downloads and OS services always use internet traffic when its enable.
5. Consume too much battery power.
I wish you will reply my thread as i am not able to post on your thread.

Doesn't really make sense why you are posting here instead of the Q&A forum for your phone. HellKat is based off of CM11 which isn't considered stable, and for a phone that isn't officially supported, so bugs are to be expected.
1) Try checking out Viper Audio.
2) This was addressed in the thread, if you would have searched for it. Was suggested to try Camera JB+ as a replacement.
3) This was referred to as well. Go to Developer Options and uncheck HW Overlays.
4) I don't get it...why wouldn't they use the internet?
5) Everyone uses their phone differently with different apps. What makes you think it's the rom and not some apps or settings you have enabled? Without posting any advanced battery stats, saying I have battery life issues is pointless. Check out some apps like Gsam Battery Monitor, Bettery Battery Stats, or Wakelock Detector.
