hi guys im waiting on the TP2 for Verizon.. i have a question..
the ppl that have the touch pro from verizon do you have to pay for a DATA plan??
I am paying for a data plan with mine.
do you have to get the data plan?? or is it opional?
when i signed up, rep told me data plan was mandatory w/ all smart phones.
ok. thanx for the reply
Granted, you have your answer. But if you need some specifics, here's a link.
As of some recent date ( I think a couple months ago) you MUST get the data plan, but its totally unlimited and it probably means Verizon will let us be unlimited
Ordered my Galaxy Note this morning at 12:10am from ATT. Will ship Feb. 16th.Was able to move my unlimited Iphone plan over the the unlimited LTE plan.
Moved to ATT Note General
We have a ATT note forum now. Please post all relevant threads there. It has been highlighted in a sticky.
thank you, did not know about that until now.
How did you move your keep your unlimited data plan? I just tried ordering and it wants me to choose a new data plan?
unlimited iphone plan transfer
had to go to att.com and go to upgrade phone, otherwise it wanted a new activation. what i did not know was if i needed to also pick unlimited messaging which was on my plan also. just picked unlimited data, it warned if i did not, it would be lost.
If you guys look hard enough the same unlimited data plan for LTE is still on there ($30 unlimited). I did this with an upgrade.
Picture proof below.

As long as you keep any kind of smartphone, you can keep your unlimited data plan, even if it's LTE

Got my pre-order in today as well. Can't wait!
Same here; can't wait for the 17th and hopefully a quick ics ROM.
so this doesn't pertain just to the DNA but I upgraded to the DNA Friday morning via Best Buy.com website and i received the phone today and both my lines still have unlimited data...
when i was upgrading it initially gave me a pop up saying i would have to choose a new data plan but during the upgrade process it never asked me to pick a new data plan and on my purchase info it stated keep same plan.. the contract has been added to my account as my upgrade date on My verizon has changed.. but the line I upgraded on still shows unlimited data!!
I can't promise this will work again but it's worth a shot if you really want to keep unlimited data!!
I'll be very interested to hear if Verizon catches this and changes your plan in the next couple months, keep us updated!

i am interested too..
the upgrade was on my wife's phone which doesn't need unlimited data anyway so that is why i took the chance with the upgrade.. if they change her plan to the $30 2GB option it won't be the end of the world..

If you transfer an upgrade, even from another unlimited data smartphone line, to your own, to get the DNA, the replacement of the unlimited data plan does not retroactively apply - that's how I ended up having unlimited data after transferring an upgrade from a (willing) sibling's line, both of us having unlimited data before my purchase of the DNA.

well i didn't transfer the upgrade i upgraded my wife's line to the DNA (she currently has an iPhone 5, but was out of contract) they sent the phone with a new sim card... when i got the phone i took the pre-installed sim out of the DNA put mine in..
I know you can transfer upgrades but that isn't how i did this one.
so before the upgrade we both had the 29.99 unlimited data.. on verizon's site it was making me change her data to the $30 2gb plan but on bestbuy's site it never asked/made me change her plan in fact it even says keep existing data plan on my invoice.
I had unlimited data but used the upgrade from my line which should have lost it for me but my VZW account still shows unlimited as well. I assume the 2gb plan will kick in at the start of my next billing cycle. Interestingly, I also switched the pre-installed sim with the one from my GNex. Maybe I'll get lucky and somehow keep unlimited... but I doubt it.

who did you upgrade with? straight through verizon or some 3rd party?
I did the upgrade on the 23rd so that was 2 days into my billing cycle so i guess in theory they could change the plan on the 22nd of December when my new billing period starts.. but if they do I will call CS and argue.. since my info i recieved from BBY when i upgraded showed keep same data plan..
I upgraded through VZW. I preordered through the website on the 18th. My billing cycle resets on the 14th so I'll know for sure in a couple weeks.

Good luck. I had a similar setup going with AT&T and they finally hit me with "That plan isn't compatible with your phone." and switched me to a tiered plan. That was when I decided to switch to VZW. I will likely buy my future devices from e-bay or another source to ensure I have unlimited data as long as possible.
Thats cool. Ill keep my fingers crossed. Only loophole(besides alternate upgrade) to keep unlimited data.
I used my bro's upgrade to get the DNA on verizon and I lost unlimited data. Stuck with 2 GB for the same price. Hope they bring back that promotion of double data. And my mother has 4GB and she uses like .1 lol.
So lazarus2297, are you still on the unlimited plans? I just went through the entire process also showing " keep existing plan". Didn't go through with it yet. Want to make sure before I order.

not yet.. my new billing period starts on the 22nd
Well, I'm now officially 2 days into my new billing cycle and my account is still showing unlimited data despite having used my upgrade to purchase this phone through Verizon.
I'm not really sure why I didn't get stuck with a 2gb plan but I'm not certainly not complaining.

I'm just worried that Verizon will all of a sudden just change it over to the 2gb plan down the road.
It took AT&T 3 months to switch my data plan to a tiered plan. I left shortly there after because I hadn't done an upgrade but they wouldn't let me go back to my original data plan.

I assume this will happen at some point. However, both of my parents upgraded this last month as well, and both of their plans changed from unlimited to 2gb right away. This gives me some hope that it's some weird fluke/loophole on Verizon's part and I might get to keep unlimited.

I posted the same experience some time ago, transferred an upgrade with unlimited data to my line, with unlimited data, and both lines stayed unlimited after the upgrade.
I had called Verizon since I was confused about the LTE sim card, and the handler openly told me that because I had transferred the upgrade the data plan wouldn't change for either one.

So I have a quick question regarding transferring upgrades.
I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan and 5 phones on my VZW plan. I am the only one with unlimited data and I have an upgrade available.
I know you can transfer the upgrade to another line, activate on the other line, and then switch the lines to keep unlimited data.
I just did this, but it is weird. When I go to the upgrade screen again, it says that my unlimited line is awaiting activation? I was wondering if VZW seemed to fix this "workaround" or what? Because now on my invoice says on my unlimited line that it will go to a 2gb data plan, even though when I transferred and upgraded, it did not give me that warning that you are not allowed to have unlimited data anymore and will be forced to go to a 2gb data plan.
I'm sure i've transferred it right, and I've done this in the past so i'm thinking VZW might have fixed thsi workaround?
I recently inquired with VZW about retaining my unlimited data in the event I should upgrade to the Note 3. They said on 2 separate occasions that they are no longer grandfathering unlimited data. The next best thing was 2GB. This has really forced me to reconsider whether or not I want to upgrade. Kinda blows if you asked me.

VZW always says this. Don't believe them, there are a few ways to have a work around. Like if you have a family plan, you can add a line and upgrade it, activate it on that line, and switch it. If you have a smart phone that has a 2gb plan already, or anything other than unlimited, you can upgrade that phone, activate it, and switch it.
The third way is if you have an upgrade available you can transfer your upgrade to a different line, activate it on that line, and switch it back. That is what i'm asking because i've done it the other two ways, but not this third way. I'm trying to figure it out, because I'm sure I switched the upgrade, but it STILL SAYS that my line is the one being upgraded and not the one i transferred it to.
Hello Everyone,
I in the next few days I will be available for a device upgrade. I am going to go from a Rezound to S4 but I am concerned about my unlimited data.
I still have unlimited data on my plan, will upgrading my device change this?
I know now they are forcing everyone into tiered plans but I was hoping this would not change my plan. My wife and I are on a shared plan and she had to get a 2GB data plan when she got her Rhyme. I was grandfathered into my unlimited when I got my Rezound. I also still have the 500 txt messages for $5 a month which they do not offer anymore. I hope that does not get changed either
Thanks,
Ian...
if you get the phone subsidized you lose unlimited, if you have another line you can take and activate the new phone on then move the phone back to your unlimited line you should be good. just don't activate the subsidized device on the unlimited line or you are toast. at least I think that's how it all works.

You need to buy the phone outright at full price to retain your unlimited if you can't do the alternative line option corporal_hades pointed out. Verizon is offering financing to split the cost over 12 months with an additional $2 a month charge I believe.
I'm in the same boat you're in, I would like to upgrade, don't wanna give up my unlimited either.
Thanks for the information guys. Sometimes it seems like Verizon and the other carriers got us by the [email protected]
Don't forget the Moto X is $399, and the LG G2, HTC One, and Droid Ultra are $449 off contract now... just one more way to keep unlimited data.

It may also be worth it to decide if you really need unlimited data, or change your usage somewhat to get within 2 or 4 GB of data a month, you can save a lot if you can make some changes to your usage and get on WiFi more.
I know corporate stores will not do it, but one of the smaller Verizon stores I went into the other day said I could use my upgrade to get a new phone on my wife's life(alternate upgrade), then do a hardware swap to put the new phone on my line. It wouldn't hurt to ask a few of the stores around you to see if theyll do that.
She said if I did this I would be able to keep my unlimited.

I upgraded to the HTC one through best buy and was able to keep my unlimited plan. I upgraded the phone on my account that's already on the tiered data plan. Then switched the new phone to my unlimited line at the Verizon store. Best buy or Verizon didn't give me any problems doing it. Small price to pay to keep unlimited data.
