My soft keys stopped working on me out of the blue. So I setup lmt and pie and was able to use that for my back and home buttons. Well now that stopped working for no reason. I was on infection when this happened. I've tried clearing cache on lmt with no luck also tried another Rom with no luck either. Any ideas would be awesome. I have no clue what else to try. Thanks.

For your soft keys not working this is a mass majority issue on multiple (more than 100 i know that) htc rezounds as its just faulty hardware from manufacturer....ive always used ultimate dynamic navbar without an issue....clearing cache wont help you...just make sure you didnt flash anything with amon ra as this can cause bugs (use twrp), obviously make sure your rooted and flashed the rom/kernels properly and that you read the original posts (Main posts for that rom) thorouhly and read what is recommended especially for your current setup such as hboot and radios....some are a little out of date but give the best general idea plus i can always tell you whats up to date

I saw that there was a similar thread in the Epic 4G forum, but I wanted to make sure before I start trying something that might mess up the phone even further. My wife's vibrant will start having everything force close on her after a few weeks. This has happened on 2 or three different ROMs, and I'm not sure what's causing it. I saw the similar thread where it might be related to "journaling", but we don't change her battery out at all or even reboot the phone that often, so I'm not sure if its the same issue. I've done a reset of her phone a few times, but I'm on a GB ROM so it doesn't go completely back to factory. Should I try to ODIN to stock? Any ideas why this happens? Thanks in advance.
Try fixing permissions in CWM first and see if that helps.

Fix permissions worked for a while, but not anymore. Everything's force closing again. Will the journaling fix help?
Anybody have any ideas? Gonna wipe then install a newer ROM, but I want to make sure this doesn't happen again.
Only titanium the "necessary" apps that you wanna keep your data from. Then uninstall it - often I find that this helps for some odd reason.

Get into recovery:
wipe dalvik
wipe cache
fix permissions
reboot
wait 10 mins reboot into recovery again
fix permissions
reboot
open rom manager [worth its weight in gold!]
fix permissions
reboot
Thats what I did with my cm7.1.0.1 but I also installed eugenes streamline 110411 ver and [knock on wood] havnt had any more issues with fc's.
And yes even if you follow the installs to a "T" some of us still have the FC issue!
Good luck!
3 weeks later and I'm back to square one. I'll try the above, if it doesn't work, i'll have to wipe and reinstall. thanks. What's eugene's streamline?
Id flash to stock, flashing different roms wont help if theres a ghost in the machine, what launcher are you running...touchwiz sucks on my wimpy replacement phone.

MIUI's launcher. I'll probably try flashing to stock soon. :-(
No go. I'll have to look into Eugene's streamlined 110411
ok just for future sake, 3 rule's of flashing,
it's better to reinstall your applications manually then to trust titanium when bouncing between roms with different frameworks, versions, partitions, etc.
always flash from stock unless your updating a weekly rom ie cm7/miui
after flashing power off screen and have a cup of coffee/beer/shower. give the OS time to do all it's background configurations and setup.
now if you follow those 3 rules you "should" have no real issues.
I installed Cyanogenmod 7 a week ago, and everything was pretty much working fine.
Randomly today, all 4 of the soft buttons stopped working in the middle of me using my phone. I believe I was checking scores on an NFL app. Regardless, reapplying the CM7 zip didn't fix it. I tried factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache. Nothing.
Decided to try to reroot. Reapplied ED05, which is what I did before I installed CM7. Got back to essentially factory... soft buttons still don't work. Reinstalled CM7... took, but soft buttons won't work.
I thought I read somewhere that this is an issue with gapps, but I can't seem to find that page or people discussing it again. Installing gapps again didn't work.
I'm willing to get my phone back to it's most basic level, and even erase the SD card if I need to, but not sure how to clear my phone moreso than my reverting back to ED05.
Thanks for your input guys.
Also, I had reinstalled my apps using Titanium, but not the app data. Again, everything was just fine for a week.
Also, having done a bunch of flashing and what not, I dont' know what happened, but now when I long press the power button, the menu comes up. When I try to use volume up/down to navigate to power off, all I get is volume going up and down
So, i know this thread is sort of dead, but this happened to my fascinate a while back with a version of CM7 mtd (55 maybe?)... I'm fairly convinced that the sensors for the buttons (and the lights for that matter) are completely shot, but I can't really test that. I have flashed back to stock, re-rooted it,and done everything I can think of to fix it.
You probably messed the phone up for good... my advice (if you haven't already done it): get a new phone.
I've noticed that when I revert back to stock ED05, and flash CM7 on top of that, it doesn't work right. minor to major glitches appear...
What i did was flash back to stock ED05, then ran the update to Gingerbread EH03... Then flashed CM7 with Glitch v13 kernel. seemed to fix a lot of my issues.
idk if this helps or it's just a flook, but just sayin...
Will try this out

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm having the same issues as the OP with failing soft keys after flashing through CM7 to an android 4.1 based ROM, Paranoid Android. Is the Glitch kernel built into Cyanogenmod 7 or did you load it separately?

If you are already on ICS just wipe cache and dalvik cache and flash. If not just flash up to ICS and flash kernel with ROM (same cwm session). You may want to do some reading in that thread first to make sure you get right version for your ROM.

My buttons won't work when i press them not exactly sure whats wrong but this began happening within the past few days. I've been running WTSB 3.5 latest update of 2.4 and Olympus Prime both of which use's a chad kernel which i'm not sure may or may not be the source of the problem. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

By LED buttons I'm going to assume you're referring to the 4 capacitive buttons across the bottom, Home, Menu, Back and Search.
Never really heard of any software disabling these buttons, either intentionally or accidently but doesn't mean it couldn't happen!
Quick shorter term and temporary approach: boot into the custom recovery and see if their lights flash or they work at all in the custom recovery. I remember at one point during TWRP development we had the lights flashing on them. Not sure what kinda support ended up but you should be able to get some type of response to at least indicate the hardware is working.
Long but thorough approach:
Since you are running a custom ROM and kernel, I would suggest first reverting back to Stock and wipe /data and /cache.
If everything works on a Stock ROM and kernel, then you know it has something to do with either the custom ROM, custom kernel or a custom setting configuration. From a known working stock configuration, you can customize one piece at a time checking after each customization step to make sure the buttons work.
Ideally, the buttons will break after a specific customization step and you'll be able to narrow it down to that step and approach the appropriate developer with your results who will then be able to dig into their code and look at the issue.
Hope that helps!
I rooted my Android 2.3.6 using Odin, and ever since, my homekey & 'back/return' softkey will not work, however the left softkey does.
I've factory-restored, and taken the battery out with no avail.
Is flashing the original firmware (XWKK2) the only way to fix this?
thanks
That's definitely a starting point. If it works OK on stock then that obviously means something strange/random has happened when you rooted it to cause it to behave like this. Given you've already done a reset, it doesn't sound like anything else you can do will fix it. I guess you could try re-flashing the CFRoot kernel, doing a reset, clearing cache/Dalvik before you do tho (this is a longshot, it's a bit like "jiggling the cable" seemingly fixing random stuff).
And obviously if it still does this on stock, it would probably point to a hardware problem.

Okay. I'm downloading the stock firmware now, so I'll give it a try. I'll let you know how I go.
It just seems weird if it was a hardware fault, because it was working fine prior to me rooting the device (I've only had it two days...)
EDIT: re-flashing worked like a charm all good!
Hi. I havent posted very often here. I really appreciate what all the devs do here! Anyways. I have a brand new HTC One. Unlocked the bootloader through hassoon's all in one toolkit, rooted it with SuperSU, and flashed the kernel called ElementalX. I used all the default settings while setting up ElementalX. Im not sure if my camera stopped working after I flashed all the kernel and everything else, but I am trying to use the camera now, to check out Zoe and just fool around with it, but I cannot get the camera to load. I went to settings>apps>all>camera> and cleared all the data, all the cache, and force stopped. Tried to connect the camera again, no luck, still says cannot connect to camera. I also reboot the phone and no luck still. I just installed nova launcher free edition, so im going to try and switch back to the Sense UI instead of Nova and see if that helps.... anyone experiencing any similar problems? or know of any ideas to fix this???
Thanks again!

Anyone? Any ideas?
Anyways. I reflashed the Kernel. But this time I opted in for the Camera fix option, which I opted out for last time because the installer says you dont need to do the camera fix if on a stock rom, which % am on a stock rom. Well, after it was all done and flashed again, with the camera fix this time, the camera seems to work. So I will reboot it again (the instructions of the kernel say you need to), and see if it still works.
