That's the breaker - I'm not interested in buying another dock

I thought I saw somewhere that the note 2 smart dock would be compatible with the note 3. I also have the note 2 smart dock as well and hoping it will work. If you look at the official samsung accessory for note 3 thread, there is a pic of the smart dock.
EDIT: Oops, looks like its the regular desktop dock and not the smart dock.

It. works

You have to use 5,3 power supply from phone Not from dock.
Gn3 with usb + USB. Great.

So, has anyone tested this yet?

Hi guys,
I have the smart dock and can confirm it works with the note 3

My mini review of it on the Note 3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46275928&postcount=16

I have the smart dock and it is working on my note 3. But I am having issues with my reciever (I am loosing audio) yet I have audio just fine through my TVs HDMI.
Since I havent tested the smart dock with any other phones I cant confirm if it is a note 3 issue or not. But I doubt it.
I think the dock just runs on the MHL 1.0 standard

I tried the black slide in dock today, the USB connector is in the wrong spot. So no good there.
Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk now Free

works
I did it last night watching two different movies.
IT doesnt sit straight in the middle though since the usb 2.0 input is slightly off to the side

I use the universal doc and that works

Confirmed last night that the Smart Dock for my Note 2 also works for the Note 3 in 1080p even. Works well so far browsing the web, playing games, running benchmarks, YouTube, XBMC, etc. The only thing I noticed is the frame rate seems to be limited to 30fps vs 60fps without. Now, just need to find a similar thin translucent grey case to the one on my Note 2 that doesn't get in the way of the Smart Dock. Perhaps this:

The Note 2 Smart Dock works with the new Note 3
Hi Everyone,
I tested the new Note 3 with the Note 2 smart dock and thankfully it worked. You can see details of this on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWN43pnkg0s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCPCY9PSfSk
The only problem is that in landscape mode, the applications listed towards the bottom of the phone display does get cut-off. This is kind of annoying. I was wondering if there is any kind of fix for this?
Cheers.

There is an app on the market for this, it basically works by enabling a dummy keyboard application that's completely blank. I'm sorry, I don't remember the name of the app, try searching on the play store for bluetooth keyboard ime.

According to a reviewer at Amazon, it won't fit without major surgery. I think you'd be better off with a bluetooth keyboard, which would let you use the tablet in both portrait and landscape mode.
I'm using the Logitech Tablet Keyboard For Android 3.0+ that I bought at Target for $60 (it was $70 at Best Buy). The keys feel pretty nice. Also, when I first started using it the onscreen keyboard would pop up but all I had to do was press the "Esc" key and the keyboard disappears and I was still able to type. So for those of you experiencing that with other keyboards, try the Esc key. Then maybe you won't need to download a "dummy" keyboard app.
The FN commands work exccept for the 3 and 4 (mail and browser). Calendar, Music, Previous Track, Next Track, Volume Down and Up, and Delete. Has built in Home, Back, and Menu keys. Alt + Tab brings up the Multi-tasking feature of ICS. However flipping through the apps with the keyboard is a challenge as pressing tab does not alternate. The up and down arrow keys work but it jumps up a "page" instead of flipping through one by one. Alt + Tab and then tapping on the app you want is the best method so far. Overall I like the action plus the keyboard's case serves as a handy tablet stand as well. So that is kind of a neat feature.

I have the suntech (s-tech) bluetooth keyboard. Purchased for about 20GBP from a computer mall in Hong Kong. It works brilliantly and connects simultaneously with a Dell Bluetooth travel mouse. The keyboard occasionally inputs multiple presses uncommanded and the initial connection each session is hit and miss (it's probably me though).
I just press the down cursor when the onscreen keyboard pops into viev (thumb keyboard - it's the best).
I don't travel with my laptop anymore.
The zaggkeys looks good, has anyone compared it to the apple wireless keyboard?
The Logitech - Keyboard for Android 3.0+ Tablets looks nice. I may have to go pick that up if my samsung dock does not work with my tab2
I was looking at the zaggkeys flex, but found a zaggkeys solo on ebay for 9$. Anyone tried it or know the difference?

I'll second the Freedom Pro vote. When you're using it, you can select it from the Keyboard icon in the status bar and the on-screen one no longer pops up. When you're done with the Freedom Pro, just re-select the on-screen one (SwiftKey, for me.)
The typing feel is pretty good, but the size is what won me over. I chose a 7" tablet for size, so to "lug" around a larger keyboard was counter-productive.
My Zaggkeys Solo arrived. The size is perfect, big enough to comfortably type on, small enough to easily carry around. For $9 plus $4 shipping it was way more than worth it. Paired in seconds, works great!

This is the one I bought:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280904414815#ht_724wt_812
The seller had some listed at $19.99 and others at $9.99. Not sure why the different prices, maybe he was just trying to see what he could get for them. Anyway, there was a Make Offer option, so I offered $9, and it was accepted. This keyboard is GREAT! I have absolutely no complaints. The listing says used, but I can't find even a tiny scratch on it. It didn't come with a cable, but it's a standard, I had several already.
Just purchased a Bluetooth folding keyboard by HDE for less than US$30. It pairs easily & quickly with my P3113. Center-hinged and folds to 5 inches. Purchased it for use when traveling. Available from Amazon, buy.com and other vendors.
Samsung launched student edition Tab2, with it they are giving Keyboard and USB OTG cable for free.
Specs:
7" screen
8 GB
Wi-Fi
It costs $249 and rumors says its coming globally on aug 19th.
So there is a hope who want samsung official keyboard for our tab 2, i am sure it will work with all other tab 2 7" edition.

I gave up my Note 10.1 for a Nexus 10 and overall i'm glad I did. I love the screen on the Nexus 10, perfect for watching movies on. With the Note the screen was always a bit dim when watching movies.
I do miss TouchWiz because I found the launcher much more smoother than Google Stock however I'm using Apex on the Nexus 10 and it's so impressive. All in all very pleased I made the switch. :good:
Have you tried using a capacitive stylus on the Nexus? I ordered one from amazon, still waiting for my actual nexus to arrive but I'm looking forward to using it -- I'm also a student and will be taking tons of notes on it. I've seen plenty of my fellow students using iPad with a capacitive stylus to take notes on and they all love it -- I ordered a much thinner tipped stylus and I'm hoping that will be a good fit for writing.
Anyways, I don't have experience with the note but if you miss the pen then perhaps a thin tipped stylus for the N10 will be good?

I previously had the Note 10.1 and find the Nexus 10 a far nicer piece of kit. Speedwise, I couldn't tell the difference but the build quality of the Note wasn't great with the chassis creaking on occasion! Also, I didn't think that the 10.1 screen was terribly good even by 1280x800 standards.

Really? After seeing alot of 800p tablets on display in a shop, I thought the Note 10.1 screen looked noticeably better than all of them. Especially the colour saturation and black level.

I thought so. I had a Transfomer Prime at the time as well and thought the display in that was far nicer. This being said, I'm no expert and my opinion is certainly subjective! However, the build quality of the Note 10 was definitely inferior - never happy when a tablet bends slightly and creaks whilst doing so!
I came from the Note 10.1 and enjoyed it a lot. The spen does add to a very solid tablet. Drawing with it was pretty amazing, very precise. It was smooth and performed very well for me. Only reason I left was due to the standard screen and slow charge (yes I know its the same for N10 but its only because they haven't released the Pogo Pin charger yet). I wanted an HD screen. When N10 came out and read of the specs similar to Note 10.1 but newer /faster Exynos chip and the best [email protected] I was sold.

Writing on the nexus 10 with a capacitive stylus will be extremely uncomfortable since you will have to hold your hand/arm above the glass constantly. The note 10.1 has a digitizer therefore you can rest your hand on the glass and it ignores the skin touch and only picks up the pen touch.
Imagine trying to write on a piece of paper with your hand and arm hovering above the paper the whole time = impossible

I think you can if the developer codes it into their apps. But it'd have to be pretty genius to get it working properly.

The Note 10.1 is the most complete tablet experience on the market right now bar none. Its only downside is the 720P display. It's as fast and fluid (on JB) as the N10 and gets better battery life because of the lower res display. As a student multiview, S-Pen/S-Note, and some of the other features could make a huge difference in your productivity. The N10 is a better value and a better consumption device but as a productivity and creation device nothing compares to the Note. And there's no combination of third party apps or dev tweaks that will change that.
Here's a list of features on the Note not on the N10. You can decide how meaningful any of them are based on what you use your tablet for. I'm a huge productivity user and would only give up the Note to get another Note with a FHD display.
- Multiview (enhanced in JB)
- Pop up play
- S-Pen/S-Note
- AllShare Play and Cast
- Enhanced camera features (smile/face/blink detection, buddy shot)
- Mini apps (enhanced in JB)
- Enhanced audio and video codec support
- IR port
- Browser h/w acceleration
- S-Voice (added in JB)
- Air View (added in JB)
- Group Cast (added in JB)
Here's a list of some more new features in JB. Some are really cool and can't be replicated on any other tablet (even via third party apps).
Video Air View – Preview videos without opening them. View future/past scenes in a playing video via the timeline without stopping it.
Photo Air View – Pictures contained in folders will display in thumbnails when you hover over the folder. They advance nine at a time.
E-Mail Air View – Hover the pen over a heading or contents of an e-mail summary (including via the widget) to see an exploded view of the contents without opening it.
S-Planner Air View – Hover the pen over an event or task to see an exploded view without opening it.
Pop Up Note – Tap the screen twice with the S-Pen button depressed and a pop up note will be displayed. Even on the lock screen when the device is locked. On the N8000, if you’re in a call and remove the S-Pen from its holder, a pop up note automatically opens.
Easy Clip – Capture anything on the display (lasso) anywhere and save it to the clipboard or send it an application (including S-Note).
Draw/Write on an e-mail – As it says.
Draw/Write in S-Planner – As it says (Month View only)
Color Picker – In S-Note, set the ink color to a color selected from a picture.
Pen Switch – Select multiple pen types (color, texture, weight) and toggle through them without opening the menu by pressing the button on the S-Pen once.
Sketch Affect – Change any picture to an outline, color sketch, pencil sketch and more from within S-Note.
Share S-Notes – Convert S-Notes to plain text, PDFs, or pictures and share them via Facebook etc. in one step.
Photo Note – Write personal notes on the back of photos
Gallery Organizer – Create folders and drag and drop pictures between them.
Quick Gestures - Open apps and perform functions by writing on the display.
And the display on the Note is better than the N10's at brightness and contrast. So living with it isn't as painful as some make it seem.
My Nexus 10 comes next week finally! :victory:
So yh I'll definitely be doing some comparison videos of Nexus 10 vs Note 10.1 as I've seen quite a few threads comparing the two.
So I ended up selling my nexus 10 and getting the note. So far I am really happy with My choice, this Seems like the perfect tabletfor my needs. I will say, I Miss the screen a little.

I think not.
On the Note-series Samsung are using Wacom technology - both on the screen and on the pen.
Your normal touchscreen is capacitive. And so are the Notes.
BUT they also add a inductive screen layer - that's what triggering the pen.
By charging a magnetic field above the screen - which charges the pen and makes it function, you can decide if you want both capacitive and inductive touch - or just one input signal.
I have the Note 2 and it's really good and some differences between the Note pen and a standard stylus is that the Note pen is pressure-sensitive - up to 1024 zones of pressure. It also registers HOW you're holding the pen, laying it down, using it straight down, and more.
Not forgetting Airview - you can hover the pen over objects and it will function as you would do with your mouse on your computer - popup menus are working on everyday websites, you can preview movie scenes in the timeline, and so on.
A normal stylus is just a replacement for your finger.
being someone who has no interest in the spen, my major yearning for the note 10.1 is the multiview capability. I am a big youtube watcher and i constantly find my self wanting to use gtalk or the web browser while watching a video on my current tablet. With the huge resolution of the nexus 10, it seems the like the PERFECT tablet for that feature. That being said, has anyone worked on trying to get the multiview capability ported to other devices? I mean I am sure its 100% software implementation, so it seems possible to add it to a custom ROM. Just wondering if there has been any work or even if anyone has looked into this?

This. A thousand times this. I have zero issues with my N10, but I'm mildly envious of the Note 10.1 for multiview. I'm guessing the next Note with a higher res screen will be the "best of both worlds", but alas, I'm not willing to wait. Hoping Google pilfers this feature and builds it into Key Lime Pie.
You would be surprised how much you use the spen. I am converted.

Once you start using it you're pretty much hooked. I replaced a Teg3 One X I was happy with for a Note II so I could get S-Pen on my phone and share S-Note's between my devices. The Note 10.1 got ****ty reviews because very few reviewers "got it" or spent any time trying to. Of all the devices I've owned the two Notes are the most complicated to figure out if you intend to fully use all their features. I was still finding things weeks after I got the 10.1. And if those things don't matter people should by the N10 because it's cheaper, easier, and a better pure consumption device.
The Note 10.1 is by far the better tablet if you're looking to use a stylus at all. I've only had the TF101 and the GN10.1, but the difference between the a capacitive stylus (like the adonit jot) and the spen is ridiculously large. You'll kick yourself for thinking that the capacitive stylii you see on the market are anywhere near as useful as the wacom stylii (which of course, require a wacom interface built within the tablet).
On the other hand, if you care only about browsing videos, pictures, and surfing the web, there's no point in paying more for a stylus you won't use.
Bottom line is that you shouldn't listen to the idiot reviewers who didn't use the Note 10.1 as its intended audience. They were all just looking for iPad-esque tablets and not looking at what the Note 10.1 really is.

[Q] Is the tip of the note 10.1 s pen supposed to be different than the note 2 s pen?

I tried my friends note 10.1 tablet today and was surprised to find how much better it felt to use that s pen. The tip didnt seem to slide as smoothly or fast, seemed like there was more friction almost like rubber which caused my writing to look much neater. Is that just a difference between the two pens?
Yes. It takes to my Note II as smooth as a babys ass too.
Sent from my SGH-I317M using XDA Premium HD app
Yeah, and there are different nibs that you can switch out on those too. Only drawback is those pens of course won't fit inside the slot in the phone. LucidMike on YouTube talked about this in one of his videos, check it out he's got a lot of good info.

Thanks very much guys. Its a shame samsung didnt make the nibs the same because the one in the note 10.1 is incredible.
I cant wait till samsung throws a 2560x160p display in a note tablet so I can sell my nexus 10. Stock android is overrated when it has so many problems and bugs haha.
Is it just me or does anybody else not like the 10.1's tip? I feel like it doesn't drag on the screen as good as the Note 2's
JetBlue said:

Oh its definitely less smooth than the note 2 but thats why I like it more. Its more rubbery and the resistance makes my writing and drawing more accurate

If so, this will be definitely good.

are you serious they are not even the same size, the dimensions are different you better off not using a screen protector. the button placement is wrong also
Let's just limit it down to only the front. Since the dimensions of Note 2 and Note 3 (same length, 1mm difference of width between these two according to phonescoop) are pretty close, I have been wondering that.
If a user have both Note 2 and Note 3, please take a picture to verify that instead of just saying yes or no. This can help others who have the same question.
That is like saying if I can put diesel in my car. Of course not.
I would think that you could use it until you got a proper N3 screen protector, but it would not fit right

Best keyboard for the Samsung Note Pro 12.2 people dont know about.

So just want to share with you my discovery. There is a keyboard by a company named brydge keyboards. This specific keyboard was designed for the Surface Pro 3/4 and the Note Pro dimensions best resemble the Surface Pro 4 so this little guy seems just right.
This keyboard is designed from polished metal, it has backlit keys, and an accurate touchpad. It connects to to the Note Pro via Bluetooth. This keyboard seems top grade quality compared to other keyboards including oem.
At first several attempts I was unable to pair it by Bluetooth. But then I decided to see what would happen if I used an OTG cable and a micro USB charge cable and connect it to the keyboard. Guess what, once it left it connected then tried to pair by Bluetooth it finally worked. I don't know what could have happened behind the scene but it connected and I'm pleased. Here are some pictures.
It works with the SHIMS for the Surface pro 4 and possible with the surface pro 3 shims if you are rocking a tempered glass.
You can find it here https://www.brydgekeyboards.com/products/brydge-12-3-microsoft-surface-pro-keyboard

Hi
I'm quite interested in this keyboard. Which size did you get for the Note Pro 12.2? I'd like to replace an aging laptop with the Note Pro and adding this keyboard looks like a perfect option.
Thanks
I purchased the brydgekeyboard that was designed for the Surface Pro 3/4.
