Annoying battery drain - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

To be specific the NlpCollectorWakeLock and AudioOut_2 services are the main offenders.
I'm running a nightly XDA release, but I was previously running a stable 4.2 release and the same problem existed.
And if your asking I don't have viber downloaded.

Which ROM are you using? Its not clear by just by telling nightly XDA release. Try to be specific..

CyanogenMod 10.3 nightly 21st September release.
For the kernel it's the same one that comes with cyanogenMod

As much I have known this is Google Services problem. As posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44278740&postcount=17605
After the last Google Service update, one of the bigger updates was the way Google applications integrated their applications with location tracking. The NLP wakelock is the google location process (NOT the location access in settings on CM10.1, but rather location access in Google apps itself.)

for AudioOut_2 service, no one has the perfect answer.. this is caused due to wakelock. applications which uses sound and runs in background like viber, skype, music player, etc. causes wakelock. this prevents device to go to deep sleep. if the device goes to deep sleep than there is minimum battery usage but if it doesn't than it drains battery for no reason. you might be getting high battery usage by AudioOut_2 service, this is because some apps which uses sound and runs in background make use of that service in background, prevents device to go to deep sleep and drains the battery. Wakelock appears regardless of whether you turn off your screen. Play 15 minutes of audio with the screen on, you get this wakelock. Play a game, kill the process, you get this wakelock. It occurs even if you're using the phone, not only during screen off..

Ive found that disabling Google Search really reduces the battery drain for me - look at this thread

[Q] Tab won't stay asleep

My Tab won't stay asleep. It randomly wakes up for a few seconds (5-10) then goes back to sleep. I can't seem to pin down a rhyme or reason as it doesn't always happen, but it does happen often. My main concern is battery drain. I'm running Task 14 with a boosted theme and stock kernel. I've reflashed the Rom but the issue still exists. Does anybody have any suggestions on what I can try?
Your Not Alone!!
I would like to know also, as I have spotted mine do this too on occasions, anyone got any ideas out there please?
BTW, I am also running a Boosted themed Task14 with Pershoots kernel
I am not sure in this case, but I guess it could be an app you have installed. You should monitor with task manager which tasks are running and switch them off temporary to find out which app cause the problem.

I put both cpu spy and b.b.s. along with watchdog on, and can't seem to spot anything weird. Nothing is hogging a lot of juice, and it has plenty of deep sleep time. When it does a random wake up and I use the TouchWiz task manager it shows no active apps and Watchdog only shows minor things in the background, I'm not familiar with b.b.s. or cpu spy, is there something I should be looking for I am missing? Thanks for trying to help me figure this out.

You can also send a log of your bbs stats to the bbs thread and let them see if they can see anything

Thanks for the tip. Yeah I use b00sted's ICS theme. I noticed the other person in this thread with the same problem is also using one of his themes which points in that direction except that I believe they are pretty widely used and tested themes. However I will probably remove it when I get around to reflashing the ROM as I think that's the only way to remove it to see if that solves the issue.
In case anyone was wondering, I think I got the problem figured out. I use the honeybar app to bide my task bar. When I disable it, I no longer see the problem. (it's been a couple of days and I haven't caught it lighting up yet.)

Google Now, Sync and more that connect to internet turned on?
That may be because you are in low signal area...
Everyones cell standby is higher mostly if they keep it idle for long time

I am having a similar problem after updating to jellybean. The battery drains 15% overnight ( ~8 hours ).
Same problem on dragurom
I have 0% battery drop during the night. I need to check if it's only percentage display bug. I have v20C firmware.
Yesterday I updated to JB and I have the same problem.
In ICS the screen was the most consuming in the percentages table (followed by phone idle, wifi, etc with a difference of 20% aprox)
Now the most draining are cell standby, phone idle and wifi, again by a difference of around 20% compared to the screen.
I just turned off google now, let's see if that changes anything.
After disabling google now the battery drain has come back almost to normal. Still, the percentages of phone idle, etc are a lot higher than screen, wich doesn't make sense to me, but well... battery is going better now.
Conclusion: turn google now off! it's really not that useful and kills the battery

Battery life decrease
Getting terrible battery life since updating to Jellybean. I used to charge my phone to 100% before bed and wake up to 93-95% battery. Now, I am lucky if it stays above 80%. One thing I noticed is the Cell Standby now taking a majority of battery life. I've disabled Google Now, my other settings (synching) have been unchanged, and I've always used a battery saver.
I've attached screenshots. What do you guys suggest?
Thanks in advance!

U sure that u are on latest version? When u hit the menu button then go to settings, the option to turn off is right on top of the list of other options.
You also may not have activated gnow and declined the service the first time you opened up google search. Usually it'll walk you through what it can do and then ask if u want it activated.

You could go to the app settings and try uninstall the updates. Then update and reopen app and see if it gives you that GNow tutorial...

[Q] suggestions to get better battery life

Hello! I usually get about 2 hours of screen on time on my GS3. After doing some research, i found out that 2 hours is not very good...so I have some questions. Take into account that I have tried to minimalise the us on my GS3 and also watched battery tips and tricks videos and even flashed bestMultitasking fix already.
Is there someway to improve my battery life?
While making this thread, my battery dropped from 36 to 34, using wifi and power saving on...also, my signal is full, so it's not a problem from cellular reception
get checkup of your battery and apart from that also goto settings>battery and see how which activity uses the most battery
The 2nd screenshot is from the android system ...

It seems that Android OS is killing some of your battery life, this usually only happens when you flash a custom ROM, Id suggest finding out what is killing your battery, download an app called wakelock detector, itll show whats using what
Also, the Greenify app is amazing, it wont let any app you chose to run unless you click it.
You could try turning on your power saving setting, itll slow the phone right down ( thats why i hate touchwiz ) but itll give you an extra 30 minutes of screen on time
Theres always custom Roms and kernels too, Ive got the Illusion Rom which ate up the battery for a day ( every new ROM does this ) and then applied the Googy Max kernel, Im running on 800 mhz with undervolting and still silky smooth
Also, try disabling Google services/ sync and disable Google now, for some reasons they seem to be the issue in most cases

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
This was today's usage...I don't get it. I guess that media server is when I play music through bluetooth in my car. Still, very bad screen on time ...
the factors that affect battery life:
-screen brightness
-bluetooh connection
-wi-fi connection
-gps
-3G/2G connection
-synchronization
-wallpaper
-vibration
Get zerolemon battery i can get 11/12 hours screen on time with juice to spare!

I googled it, there are many threads on that subject. Here are two interesting quotes from this thread to begin:
B.Diddy said:
1. I have Wakelock Detector as well, and if I tap on 1013, it mentions "Type: System (media)," and under that, "AudioOut_2." Appears to be a system app necessary for sound output. Do you have any media apps running in the background, like Pandora or Slacker?
2. This is probably the best and most authoritative article I've found so far related to 1013/AudioOut. It's pretty technical and much of it goes way over my head, but scroll all the way down and read the "Test Case" section. It may be that some app you have on your device (not necessarily a music app) might be a little buggy, and is not properly closing certain processes (like 1013/AudioOut).

Its wakelock summary of your phone. See which app is waking your device and draining your battery.
Install custom rom with kernel twiks and other twiks which disable all this wakelocks and alarms or if you wish to stick to stock rom then you have to root your phone and try AMPLIFY app. Which can disable it. you can see a dedicated thread on xda for this battery draining issue on amplify where you will find everything. just find it and go through it.
