Try "hi app lock" from play store you can lock most things down. Not just user apps. Eg: you can lock settings preventing uninstalling etc.

My question was not to use any external applications..
Actually i am using the Archidroid rom with android 4.3 on my S3 and i am able to see the restricted profiles in the settings and i am able to create new restricted profiles, but the problem is i am not able to see the restricted profiles icons on the lock screen, when i searched on the internet and in the forums, it was mentioned that restricted profiles work only on tablets, so i just wanted to know if anyone managed to use restricted profiles on their phones successfully..

Ohh ok. Well at a glance, no. So closest you are going to get may be an external app.

Not Cool

It would be so cool, if they could just make the restricted profile for android too, i have no idea why they choose to design restricted profiles only for tablets..
And sorry about posting it here, but i have less than 10 posts so i can't post it in ArchiDroid's forum but the restricted profiles in ArchiDroid works
I have finally figured out a hack to make it work in ArchiDroid 2.1.6 on my S3

[Q] How to find out, if an app is for honeycomb or not?

hi there,
just got my galxaxy tab 10.1v yesterday. and now i'm wondering how to find out in the market, which apps are written for honeycomb?
what i need is something like a filter-option, like with the ipad and the appstore. there the apps for the iphone and ipad are shown in different panes, and you can easily tell whether an app is for pad or phone.
thanks for your answers
Yes, a filter is definitely needed.
There is already a list of Honeycomb apps being built in this forum. It's pretty hard to miss - it's the thread right above yours

i do know this thread above, and there's a similar one in xoom-forum, too.
but those threads need to be updated by xda-members, e.g. when they "randomly" discover an app. so if no xda-member is willing to update those threads, you'll never get to know the latest apps for your beloved tab
such a filter in the market would automatically show those apps.
If you sign-on in the market and you click on the App name it tells you in the application is compatible with your device.

Not even necessary. If it shows up in the Market, then it's compatible with your device (according to the developer). Non-compatible apps are not shown.
HC optimized is another story. What people really seem to want is a filter for tablet optimized (not just compatible) apps. But for reasons I've pointed out in another thread on the same topic this isn't likely to happen anytime soon.

Somebody should start a google docs spreadsheet and ppl can update it by themselves.
Digita1One was right. The best way to check compatibility for now is logging into your market account on your computer and click on the app name, on the left side right below the name of the app, it tells it's compatible with your tab or not. Just showing up in your market on your tab doesn't mean those apps are compatible. Hope this helps.

Actually, yes it does, when you're looking at the market from your device.

Actually, the market on my tab shows both Facebook and words with friends but then does not allow me to install them.

As I said in post #5, its up to the developer/publisher to code the compatibility of the apps in the market listing. Google doesn't police the market the way that Apple does. Most developers do a good job and mark their apps appropriately; a small number do not.

Easiest path to multiuser support on my S3.

I really want to have multiuser support on my phone so I can setup a work account with a conforming (long) password. What would be the easiest way to achieve that on my s3?
I know 4.2.2 has multi user but samsung disabled it on the Note 8. I'm sure the phone won't get it either.
Options? Thanks!
Only thing I know of is using googy kernel and dial booting to two separate roms...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
What about the app switchme? And I thought there were hacks to enable multiuser on phones too.
Hmm I guess I'll keep Googling but I'd appreciate any thoughts people might have.

Did I get what? Figure out a solution for multi user? No.
I'm thinking of doing dual boot via switchme and see what the usability is like.

Switchme doesn't handle dual boot. It just does profile switching (which is what you asked for anyway). Perhaps I am being pedantic but there is a distinct and obvious difference between switching users and switching roms.

Are you sure? My reading of this article convinced me it was essentially dual boot.

Only a few lines in it tells you it doesn't really dual boot.
We've already shown you how to dual boot your Android phone, but SwitchMe is a bit different. Unlike BootManager,it won't let you dual boot different ROMs

...so it's not really dual boot. It's multiple profiles, done poorly (i.e it has to install the same rom over and over again).

[MOD][XPOSED] LockDown - Control phone access based on PIN entered

LockDown - XPOSED
LockDown is a security module for Xposed.
It allows you to add multiple PINs to unlock your phone. Every PIN is a profile and you can restrict certain apps from launching when using a certain profile. You can even choose to hide the apps from the drawer completely so the user will not know if they are locked out.
There is a free version for testing before you purchase the full module. Please verify it works before making a purchase.
Features
Add PINs that can unlock your device
Lock apps from launching depending on PIN entered
Hide apps from the phone completely while profile is active
Compatibility
Works with most ROMs that are similar to AOSP. Will NOT work with the following:
Heavily modified ROMs
Any lockscreen with quick unlock enabled
Troubleshooting
How do I launch the app?
To launch Lock Down for the first time call *#*#54321 from your phone app. This is the default launch key. It is recommended you change this key after opening Lock Down.
Dialing the PIN won't launch the app
Make sure you have a PIN set in your system settings already. LockDown can only be launched when the phone has been unlocked via the system PIN.
Reinstall the module and reboot your phone.
If you are still unable to launch the app please post your xposed log and a detailed summary of exactly what you did to try to launch the app.
The free version works but the paid version does not.
This is due to Android putting paid apps in /mnt/asec/ instead of /data/app/ where xposed can properly load them. Until there is an official fix for this you can install XMOD which will move apps from /mnt/asec/ to /data/app/. To use it, simply install the XMOD and then install LockDown. XMOD can be removed after LockDown has been installed.

I plan on adding Gingerbread support soon. Only reason that it is not in this release is because I don't know where xposed for GB currently stands. If it is stable enough I will gladly add support for it!
Now just to get a phone that runs GB.....
Any ideas for troubleshooting other than the ones you have listed on the play store page? I made sure all my lockscreen settings were back to default and rebooted but dialing *12345 just takes me to voicemail still.

That is very strange. I have tested it myself on a Nexus 4 running KitKat and it works. Try this:
1. Disable all xposed modules including lockdown
2. Make sure you have a PIN set via system settings
3. Restart phone
4. Enable lockdown
5. Restart phone
6. Unlock phone using the PIN you set in the system settings
7. Dial *#*#54321 and call it
cool, gonna try it
btw can it set to change the settings in different profile?

Not yet but that is coming for sure. I have planned for that and a few other features I'm really excited about! Stay tuned
EDIT: Also please feel free to suggest any settings you have in mind specifically. I cannot make this into a DevDB yet so I can take requests here but as soon as I hit the minimum post count I will convert this thread. (Really should have joined xda sooner eh?)

Thanks for this MOD and especially for integrating Tasker support. I imagine it would be even more awesome to set different PINs/profiles based on the particular WiFi that the phone is connected to by MAC address
I locked one app, well, but nos i want see my app. How i can enter un my app?dialer doesnt work for lockdown. Thanks
Doesn't work for me.. Whenever I dial *#*#54321, it just dials that number. Samsung Galaxy S3. Official 4.3.

One question, what do you mean by, when you say "make sure you do not have quick unlock or similar feature enabled"?? What is quick unlock feature ??

confused
same issue i hide my apps now i am unable to access them and ... i uninstalled lockdown but my apps are still hidden ..
anyway dev its a gud concept
Can you please make the app accessible by a normal icon? The dialer doesn't seem to be working for me... im on SlimKat 3.0 gs3 VZW. I could see that you made it accessible through the dialer so another user can't change the settings but we can always just restrict the lockdown app from opening in a profile if it is accessible by a normal icon

[Q] AOSP Guidance

So I've posted in various forums on certain ROMs with questions about things, but I just haven't been able to seem to find the right fit yet.I love AOSP and the ability for customization, Active Display, etc. Maybe someone can help me out here if I say what I'm looking for. Perhaps someone knows if these things are in a certain AOSP ROM. Here's three things:
1.) Hotspot that allows me to see who's connected and maybe name the device that's connected (i have a few things that connect to the hotspot)
2.) Native SMS app that allows me to continue to type after reaching 160 characters (some stock apps stop progress at 160)
and
3.) I know it probably can't be native, but some sort of S-PEN functionality (I use "Screen Write" a lot)
Anyone have suggestions based on this? Thanks for your continued help and development!

1. HotSpot usually has Access-Control which (when enabled) displays who is connecting or trying to connect (you can allow or deny)
2. I've never run into this. I am pretty sure Hangouts doesn't have this.I prefer 3rd party SMS anyway
3. For AOSP S-Pen use CM S Pen Add-on(ROOT)
I hope this helped some, good luck!
Thanks, but regarding your first point on aosp the only options for setting up the Hotspot are ssid, security type and password, is there another spot to bring up access control? Thanks for the other info!

It is probably ROM dependent, which ROM are you using at the moment?
EDIT: you might try this WiFi Tether app, always backup first just incase.

Instagram 'Close Friends ' *Hack?*

Hi guys,
Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Instagram trialled a "close friends" or "favourites" feature which allowed users to share posts with only particular users in their so called 'close friends list'. This trial was around the 23/06/2017.
My old Instagram account used this feature and it was great! However, it turns out they have cut the feature, unless you have already used it...
So my new account does NOT have this functionality and I would like to regain it!
Apparently the with and without the feature, the apks are identical, and it is simply a server-side switch to enable the feature and particular accounts. I was wondering if it would be possible to manually turn on the feature to spoof the server into thinking you had the feature and therefore enabling it on your account.
Please correct me if any of this information is incorrect or unfeasible.
Thanks in advance,
James
I currently have this feature and it appeared in my main account randomly, because it's a beta feature for only some IG accounts. I can't tell you if you could "force" the app to have it, but I assume it's impossible. The only way is to wait I think.
