Hey guys, I know that roms are all about taste, and opinion, and that's why I'm not looking for that today. What I am wondering is if there is a rom with strictly the A&T bloat removed, because I actually like what LG has done with their overlay, I just don't like the AT&T bloat, and other non-LG bloat. I have looked @ all the roms, especially the odex, and deodex ones, but they all seem to remove the LG stuff as well, or it's altered in a way that the LG overlay is either removed, or replaced with other apps.
I know I could very well be wrong, and totally missing something that is right in front of my face, but that's why I am asking for a little guidance, if possible; especially because this phone is awesome Any help, or advice would be greatly appreciated, and thank you to everyone in advance.

If you are looking just to remove the bloat you can easily wither just disable those app or root and remove those apps.... if you don't want to deal with installing a custom Rom

I don't mind installing a custom rom, (done it a lot, with all previous & current devices), but I have not been able 2 find 1 that removes all the bloat, but leaves most the LG overlay intact, (thanx for the reply, and the help, I really appreciate it

If you are looking for a stock based rom, look in the dev forum for Mystery Emotion's eg8 for debloated. SnowL has one to but I don't remember if he debloated it or not.

Is CarrierIQ on EVO3D (stock) and if so, how do we get rid of it once rooted?
I'd rather not install a custom ROM at this point (at least until a usable CM/AOSP ROM is out)
I'd just like to know how to find and murder it.

Not even the custom roms can remove carrier iq completely. So don't worry about it right now. HTC and SPRINT need to have that crappy removed from our phones. It is so deeply embedded into android that its impossible to remove and have a functional phone.

Root and install Fresh Rom. You can read up on what Flipz did in the link below, scroll down to the 4.0.3 section and read up on his CIQ mods. Even if it's not completely destroyed, less is better.
http://geekfor.me/evo3d/3d23/fresh-evo-3d-change-log
installing a vanilla ROM will remove CIQ completely... For example, MIUI (i believe it's ported) is based on a completely stock rom that CIQ never had the chance to infect... Look around, a lot of developers remove most, if not all, of the CIQ BS..
yeah there are some roms with it removed take a look.
Most of the kernels I've seen remove ,or partially anyway, Ciq
But stock non rooted stock to answer your question does have Ciq
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
The current method of handling CIQ is good enough for now. So don't think that you're SOL, if you follow TrevE's guide, you will be fine. It may not be completely eradicated, but it's enough that it won't be phoning home.

If MIUI E3D port was base on an official 3D rom, why doesn't it have the CIQ thing?
Well since no one has yet. Most of this news about CIQ is coming from right here at XDA by Treve in the EVO3D dev section. Here is the link to his thread with an app to remove this stuff as best we can right now.

just sayin...
You're on Sprint so yes CIQ is on the stock rom. It's too bad there's no stable version of CM for the Evo 3D.
Rogers stock rom doesn't have CIQ, if you wanna stick with stock and are willing to go for that.
Ok so not everyone knows this, and it hasn't yet clearly been stated so I will take the liberty of briefing everyone on how things work as plainly and simply as I know how.
There are two ways in which developers build these custom ROMs we all see in the development section. One: They obtain the source from google's source tree (not important if you don't know what that means) and build ROMs from the ground up for X or Y device. Two: They obtain the source for X or Y device that it SHIPPED with, and use this as a "base" to remove, add, or edit features.
Now, doing the first method is what ROMs like CM are doing, they build it from the ground up, and it would not contain ciq software. The second method is what the MAJORITY of the custom ROMs do, and they not only come with ciq software, but everything an out of the box X or Y device would have on it. They just add or remove things the best they can.
The reason why most developers do the second method is because it is easier, and not everyone has the knowledge to be able to build from the ground up. The drivers and other software that tells the device how to interact with the hardware for that specific device, X or Y has to be added or coded by the developer. So while the first method is ALWAYS better, it is too difficult, and too time consuming to do. I hope I helped someone understand a little more about the behind the scenes work that goes on

Evening all,
Picked mine up yesterday and liking it so far. Coming from EVO 4 G with MikG 3.11. That guy really extended the fun factor of that phone. Just worked well but now I am missing a very valuable feature.
When the screen is off just long press the volume rocker to skips songs. Love it while driving.
Is there a mod/app that will work until all the fantastic roms start coming?
I'm stock stock stock right now mind you. If I need to unlock so be it. I would rather wait until toms are solid. I don't have much time to experiment just yet.
I'm patient but that feature is quite dope.
Any thoughts or is viper with a mod all good? I have searched but didn't see anything specific.
Thanks all,
D
Really. No one has interest for this function? I find it a must.

LOVE this feature. Don't know of any app that can do it quite as good as CyanogenMod though. Got spoiled with it originally on CM, now I can't live without it. I believe it's something that's actually built into the framework of the ROM so...can a Dev help a guy out here?

Joelz has already ported this mod over. Grab his Rom if u want this mod.
Is a mod like this not possible for stock rom and rooted?
I like this feature also, I wish there was an app for that instead of having to root. I like my phone stock.

Hey, this is my first post so sorry if its in the wrong place.
I have had my Amaze 4G for about a year and had wanted to experiment with different roms. Unfortunately there are not a lot which I can get to work with radio and tethering. I am with Wind (dont laugh) but only the T-mobile roms seem to work without incident. I had a good experience with EnergyROM but after trying the CyanogenMOD 10 4.1.2 nightlies I have been looking for a rom which has only the very basic apps preinstalled and no gapps. I really like cm10 because I only get what I want but being unstable releases the battery life is really bad. I wanted to post this to see what people are using which fit this criteria or if there is a way to edit the custom rom zips to remove these apps.
Thanks XD
Try venom rom. You can customize pretty much anything. I don't know the current state of tether on this ROM though because I don't really use it.

Coming from the galaxy nexus this phone is really nice. Super fast, nice screen, and overall a great feel. The factory interface isn't too bad, but I do still prefer vanilla android. I'm on T-Mobile and there is a lot of bloatware on here. Does anyone foresee this phone getting much attention from devs?

Just curious, what exactly makes you prefer vanilla Android over LG's UI on the G2?
I'll be joining the G2 community soon. Can tell you now... My plan is to root, stay on stock system and heavily debloat and tweak the system myself. Personally I'm tired of flashing roms and dealing with fixes, workaround and bugs. That's why I'm now on stock on my S2....And plan to keep it that way. After the tweaking and debloating it's smoother, better battery life and bugless.. Unlike just about any custom rom I've ever ran. I totally get the fun of flashing stuff and all that tho..... I'm just personally done with it. I just want a super stable device.

I just installed CleanROM XE 2.0 - more details in the AT&T dev thread. I've the AT&T LG G2, but it looks like it's set up to work on the T-Mobile variant too. Two days in and I think it's a keeper - performs really well and battery life seems just a bit better than stock. The way that the dev set up the install allows you to cherry pick the features that you want to keep from stock, as well as some of the stock software. It's a pretty slick install and I'm happy with this stock mod. Check out the details - the big draw for me is no Carrier IQ - and see if you like it.
So my g2 came in tonight from amazon att on contract for 29 bucks. I assumed I was going to have to root and rom it based on some reviews. My last phone was a nexus 4 with kit kat on it. I always run stock or close to stock android. But I have to tell you, once I put nova launcher and played with my settings..... I don't really see the benifit for me to change it. I didn't expect the phone to be nearly as nice as it is. I thought it would be a sideways move from my n4. But everything about the phone suprisingly great for me so far.
I do wish I could select other apps for the multi tasking window, but whatever.
I'll probably root eventually to get the at and t bloat off. But for now I feel like I got a lot more phone then I bargened for.

Nice to know, I currently have a N4 and I have been considering this phone. Based on the reviews I wondered if I should wait and see what other phones come out over the next 6 months but your post gives me optimism.
Phone is pretty sweet.
I like the toggles on the device. Battery life is soo good compared to the nexus 5/xperia z1 that i previously owned.
Ive been stuck trying to figure out how to get twrp installed. Even though i read the instructions haha they dont work for me sadly, i suck.
this phone is a beast.
I love this phone and everything that comes with it. I unlocked my bootloader, rooted it, put in a custom recovery and flashed a custom ROM . Then I realized it was better stock. All the custom ROM did was remove the cool stuff and made it look like all my other devices. They weren't nearly so cool when stock so they can stay custom but this baby I put back to stock. Mind you, I left it rooted and with a custom recovery so I can still tweak things but I don't lose all the goodness that this phone is.

I'm glad you like it. and it sounds like you want the same stuff I wanted out of this phone. Look around the forums and find things. For example I am running cleanrom just to get the crap off of it and its still like LG Stock except the crap and i am using Nova to look "Vanilla". Also I used Xposed Framework to change a few things around the way I like it. There is also a thread on here to use split view. its a port from the LG G Flex and works excellent. This is the link to set up Split view. Check out my screen shot to see some of the Xposed mods you can get to make it yours.
This dev forum got a lot more attention than I expected and its paying off bit time also just makes this phone that much more awesome.

Since there are all these mods and debloating possibilities available there really is no need to use a custom ROM - not only on the G2, but on many other devices as well. It's just a bit more work; but hey, isn't that part of the modding / flashing fun?

I agree and it keeps the devices unique. I find that the phones become more generic. All the stuff is the same. You just might be able to change the color on one before the other catches up. Even from one device to the next, all the custom ROMs end up looking the same.
To be fair though, in a some cases
it is a definite benefit. I would never be running kitkat on my Note without a custom ROM. The battery improvements can be huge as well.
So I guess it's the device, benefits and good ole personal preferences. Regardless, isn't it wonderful to have the choice? And the hard work these people do to create these ROMs, for free, is amazing. Either way we're lucky.

mine is in the mail.... thanks for the different views on stock and modding....
So day 2 or 3 now. Took it to work today and battery lasted easily twice as long with very heavy use then my n4. I even ingressed and didn't need to charge it.
I'll hvae to look into the split screen mod, that would be pretty useful.
The ONLY irritating thing that I've not been able to simply fix is the volume for google now is the same volume adjustment for the keyboard. I like a nice quiet but audible keyboard and a loud voice with google now, I'm sure I'll figure out a way, but its not readily obviouious how.
I thought I'd end up rooting it the first day because I had the latest and gratest kit kat on the n4, but I've got no desire to do it. I'm sure I'll get board and do something different eventually. Just cant leave well enough alone.
I just picked up my n4 to copy the ringtones over to the g2, and what did I do? tried to turn it on looking for a button on the back. Already trained!
Seriously I think this is the sleeper phone of the year. I snickerd at my friends n5 today. I told him it was cute and it was a poser's development phone. I was only half way joking.
