if you wait for a new phone, then the new galaxy wll be out before your contract ends and youll really really want that one!!
Good phone. high specs. but it's down to YOUR buget... do you want a expensive hih end phone? or will a phone at a cheaper price do?
Just got the SGS II. Had an S I before. SII is amazing. No lag on any games. Quadrant scores are 3500 plus or 4000 plus if you over clock it.
Its fast smooth with excellent functionality

These threads amuse me. Here's 5 phones, pick one. And asking in the SGS2 section no less. That's like asking a bunch of Mac owners if they should buy a Mac or a PC.
Clearly you're open to a new carrier because you're choosing between 5 phones. If you had to stay with a specific carrier, that already cuts your choices down to 2 or 3 since the SGS2 and Sony handsets don't support the same 3G bands as the HTCs. Your country will factor in as well since launch availability, pricing, and local carrier discounts will incentivize some phones over others.
Those are just some of the considerations that don't even have anything to do with the phones themselves. Of those 5 choices, how many here have had 20 minutes hands-on with more than 2 of them? I haven't. Most of the opinions here will likely come from hours of aggregating editorial reviews. While those are valuable in their own way, asking a forum pales in comparison to doing that research on your own. Also, you can bet that almost no one here has played with a Sensation yet.
OP, I don't mean to be a douche but nobody here will offer a more meaningful opinion than one you could come up with on your own.

If you want a future proof phone say atleast for a year or two..
then the SGS 2 and Sensation are your best bet..
SGS2- you will be able to root and make sure you have the latest software thansk to XDA
Sensation - will not be able to root yet (locked bootloader) until some brilliant XDA members manages to crack it
I am considering the Sensation as I feel I hopefully wouldn't need to root it for atleast a year or two by which time somebody might have cracked its boot loader
The milestone has been out almost 2 years and the bootloader is still not cracked

I can get a high end phone price isnt a issue just need a phone which can last for a year or two, should be durable i am not a fan of rooting devices so i dont really need that until it is necessary to meet the techonolgy in shape of updates.
Sony phones look like toys with good feature, HTC looks solid, i have Samsung Wave at the moment though it has great features but the Bada OS which is not cracked yet, so i want to try Android now.
So far by reading reviews, user comments, watching videos i have found SGSII best but on the other hand there are people complaining about battery, sound, lag, reboots etc etc which is really confusing.
Note: I am from Pakistan so contract thing doesnt work here, i will get a Sim Free phone by paying full price of it thats why it is really necessary to do a research and ask for guidance.
How about the Google Nexus S (made by Samsung).
Always reqcieved the latest Android updates straight from Google.
Very stable.
NFC reader.
Many Custom ROMs.
Identical hardware to the Samsugn Galaxy S i9000 (4" AMOLED i9020, or sLCD i9023)
The phone feels like a phone in your hands.
No lag unlike the Samsung i9000.
About 350 Euros last time I checked.
handtec.co.uk post internationally.
Sadly, no microSD card, no FM Radio. Lacks some hardware enabled codecs for video, but still plays most and can play other formats using software decoding.
The hardware of Nexus S isnt outdated ? I guess most of the future applications will support dualcore phones.
Have mine for two days now and I must say this one of the best phones I got my hands on.
Battery life is amazing. Camera it's amazing.samsung's email client and screen is fantastic.
And 1.2ghz dual prossessor is so so fast.. Can't even compare to htc vision oc 1.8ghz cm7.

We get it, your battery life sucks. Take a look at your apps, because the majority of users say the battery life is great. I've done no tweaking except freezing a few hubs, everything still syncs in the background and I'm sitting on 92% now, unplugged at 7am this morning. (It's now 2:20pm here.)
I just got my sgs2, my previous phone was a desire but I miss htc sense already. But I am hoping someone will port sense to the sgs2 soon there already is a mostly working port for the sgs1
I might be needing a new phone.
Which phone is the best bang for buck these days. I'll be paying cash but at the same time I'd rather have a better phone even if it means ponying up a little more cash now.
I just want something that has good battery life, good support (here mainly), good space for apps, good radio (signal). Powerful would be nice but I'm a patient guy. I've been using a myTouch Slide 3g for a year and been pleased with it just fine except for running out of space. Certainly wouldn't hurt if it was a dual core though.
What's the best phone out there these days?
For the record I'm on t-mobile but would buy unlocked if possible. I also don't mind and often prefer to run rooted firmware as it has less bloat... so I'm not afraid of porting or anything like that. 4G of course would be nice.
The Sensation is probably the best phone on the market and is on t-mobile. If you hate Sense, there are AOSP roms coming out for it. The Samsung Galaxy SII is also a good option if you don't like Sense.
Actually I don't have any beef with Sense. I guess I kind of prefer it but only because it is the devil that I know.
I've never had an android phone without it and when I use one it's like using an iPhone... different enough to kind of get you agrevated.
Man, they want an arm an a leg for one of those IF you are already a customer.
Glad loyalty gets you treated so well. LOL

Not really, the dev support is slightly less then I could hope for (i was running CM10.1 on my Older HTC Sensation 4G, so to go back to ICS is slightly disappointing), but i am satisfied with the phone, screen is amazing, it is supper fast, tons of room, i mean it really is a great phone and i am really optimistic that support will pick up. so no regrets here.
That's great to hear!!! But how's the sound quality on the speaker when talking on the phone?
But please keep the comments coming. I just saw that the phone is 99 at best buy!!! Tempted to get it but just want some actually user reviews from the geeks on xda!

i recommend this phone
i'd buy it again. it'll be nice once i can roll CM10 on it. but the LG firmware is actually not too bad (coming from HTC Sense). i've recommended the device and will continue to do so.
the only two issues i have is:
1) it's slippery. having gorilla glass on both sides looks good, but the damn thing can slide on any surface. it's like it has a 'zero friction' backing.
2) LG created a device with multiple sizes but one name. the LG OG AT&T version is different in size than the LG OG Sprint version. eventually this probably won't be a big deal, but when looking for a case it can be an irritant if you get the wrong size.
love the screen
device is fast
battery lasts @20hrs regular use
great wifi
LTE is fast in my area
sound is fine
speaker could be a bit louder
put me in the unsure column. the phone is fantastic in most aspects: the screen is AMAZING, it is FAST and the build quality is very good. however, there are a few things that are making me doubt my decision:
1) the phone shape makes it a bit uncomfortable to hold and use, it is just a bit too square. my S3 is bigger but feels smaller due to the curve edges.
2) i am starting to have some doubt on if this phone will actually be very popular. so far it doesn't look like it is having too much success which might limit the amount of development and accessories.
3) there are very little accessories for this phone. i think that this is actually due to the fact that ATT once again decided to go with a device that is different than the international version. there are MANY cases for the normal version but very little for the ATT version.
More phones will hit soon. A lot more. Amazon got frigin back ordered on them... Amazon...
Its either a gs3 or this OG. I know cause its between the two

This phone couldn't be much better in my eyes. I am not worried about development as the phone just came out. Most who are complaining fail to realize that only the nexus has huge development right out the gate. Well not to forget galaxy phones.
But overall it is a well put together phone. Wouldn't return it for anything on the market now. Plus the resale in my area (Ga) is around $450 can't beat that if your only paying $99 for it.

I'm getting this phone soon and my only concern, like many others, is lack of support. I see it as the best option otherwise on At&T and I hope that if everyone with doubts supports it, there will be support. If everyone doubting supports goes somewhere else, their doubts will come true.
Anyway, there are quite a few nice cases for the At&T model on Amazon if you search for it specifically. They have a nice looking one for $2.....

You guys worrying about lack of dev support are ye of little faith. The OG doesn't have very many devs but the ones we do have are very proficient.A lot of you guys are soft bricking your phones with simple debloated stock ROM's so don't be surprised that all of the AOSP testing is going on in IRC instead of here. There might even be a Sense port ffs.
I would definitely buy this phone again. I absolutely love it. I had used nothing but HTC and Samsung in the past. They were great phones too, but I like this one better.

Yeah, it's a chicken and egg kinda thing going on. And we have the ability to push the chicken end (build install base). I see a ton of people here saying they are coming from the Atrix and a ton of people from the Atrix saying they are leaving for here. Being one of these people, I'm super pumped because the ATrix community was really great. Hell, I'll probably have some free time ovver the summer, I'd love to help dev for this phone.
No regrets here, coming from the Captivate, I suspect there will eventually be a lot of spill over from the Nexus 4 development, but in the mean time LG's UI is head and shoulders above touchwiz!
Ya I'm on my way to store so after playing with it some more ill decide. Lack of development is expected since this device is new, I suspect it will boom, ain't no telling who is making what. Guess the hard part is waiting! But with the specs of this phone theirs NO WAY yall won't see some kind of development....

I love the LG stock software. It offers more customization than any other stock firmware I've ever used.
The screen is crisp, the battery is excellent, the phone is fast.
It is quite literally the most impressive kit I've ever had the pleasure of using.

I definitely do not regret purchasing this phone. As a matter of fact, so far it's one of the best I've bought over the years. Every smartphone I've ever owned was HTC. I was stuck between the LGOG, S3, Ox+, or Note 2. I looked at all of them and the LGOG won hands down.
A few things drew me in to purchase this phone.
For me, the design is simple, super thin. A lot of people love the curved corners, but that's neither here nor there for me. I get asked about this phone a lot and no one mentions curved corners.
It's big, but not too big to be a huge pain. The screen IS amazing.
With the N4 having the same build and similar specs, I had no doubt there would be development for it.
And finally it has a SD slot! I've pushed every phone I've ever owned to the limit. It takes me no time fill 16 gigs. I need more space options.
No regrets so far here either. Coming from a HOX, the extra storage will be welcomed. I do like the design a lot, but it is ridiculously slippery. I have an invisible shield coming to help with that. Haven't had it long enough to comment on battery life. It's blazingly fast and never hiccups. Really looking forward to some Jelly Bean or CM10, but this stock firmware is by far the best I've used. I was torn between this an the HOX+, and honestly what really finally sold me was the $100 priectag Best Buy has on it right now. This phone has the potential to be the best Android device out there at this point, IMO.
I've got an OG N4 and an S3 and the only one I regret buying is the nexus4. Just the lag in screen response is a big enough deal breaker....even with the" fix". The OG can be a better machine than the S3 but is limited to LG's firmware < Samsung firmware. LG wins with screen and the processor but the s3 overclocked to 1.8 and on JB outperforms the OG in terms of system ui snappiness....the s3 still gives a better user experience than the LGOG.....just saying
LGOG E970
If you want a lot of development, get an SIII or Note. If you want an inexpensive yet epic phone, LGOG.

I am plannng to buy the Motorola RAZR XT910....i have collected money for this and finally being able to buy it myself(college student )
so do you recommend this phone...my main concern is music and gaming...i dont mind bad battery or camera and all...i never use camera....
*should work HD games like Assassn's Creed and NFS and PES smoothly
*should have good music....i will also buy the JVC HA FX 101 earphones which are really good and use PowerAmp Full Verison
*should look good ...which the phone seems to positively satisfy
so do you recommend this phone??any bugs in this phone???plus Motorola rarely has and service centres in India and i live in Kolkata...that will not be a problem right...especially with you uys here?? :good:
Well battery isn't so great on the XT910, so gaming will be useless if you can't play.
It's an aging phone for smooth HD gaming.
I recommend another phone if you're buying unlocked.
I'd say it depends on what you have to pay for it.
I wouldn't pay more than €250/US$300 today as there are so many other interesting phones in the RAZR-like performance segment.
Nonetheless, I'm really happy with - especially since I put JB on it.
Screen resolution is OK for web browsing, performance is OK for 99% of what you use a phone for, battery and camera pretty good. The design is nice, it actually still looks and feels "fresh".
The only thing that is bothering me a bit is the spots you see on a black screen in low light. Seems like most RAZRs has this issue.
Oh yeah, the touchscreen goes nuts while the phone is on charge, which is pretty frustrating. Takes five times longer to type a message due to this.
If it's cheap comparing to comparable phones on your market then go for it
edit: Now I see you mention gaming. I can't say I've tried any demanding games and my bet would be there are a lot better phones if you want to do a lot of gaming
Hello. is a great phone. I have the MAXX and the battery life is impressive.
JB will only be available in few selected countries, excluding India, so it's better to look for an alternative. With regard to oomph to money ratio, I think Nexus 4 is a nice option - but it's dense screen may mean less FPS.
If you go with the maxx, go ahead. If you pick the standard, there are a lot of better alternatives for you in my place, razr maxx sold at 350$ currently.

This smartphone is due for a service life of approximately two years at most, with unofficial (no Motorola) updates (CM10.1, AOSP and others ROMs by xda developers). If so, coupled with the price and will meet your needs ... then buy!
Sorry ... english by Google Translator.
I'll put it like this, if you're looking for a phone to spend over a year with at this point in the game, I recommend another phone.
Hi.
I am considering on getting a new phone and one of the hottest options for me is the Galaxy S3.
I currently have an Iphone 4s (Yeah, I regret buying that piece of crap every second of my life) but I've had Android phones earlier too, most noticeably the Samsung Galaxy S2.
Originally I want the Nexus 4, but I can't find any with a good price in my country (they all cost like €400 or so) and buying form the Internet isn't an option because no one delivers online stuff here in this terrible country.
So, I found some SGS3 that cost around €300 and I think the price is OK. I can afford that, but I'd like to ask some questions to the users on XDA before purchasing it.
Since I've used Android before, I know almost everything about it (the stuff like rooting, custom Rom's, and custom recoveries. ODIN and so on) I\d like to know if the S3 is still a good phone. I mean does it still perform well. Im worried about this a bit because my GS2 was a good phone but it was laggy and tended to heat a lot when using it a lot or during high-graphic games.
Is the 1.4 GhZ quad core chip still a good processor that can handle perfectly most of the daily routine stuff.
BTW, I intend on putting stock Android of some form, like CM10.1 or AOKP or PA, on it because I hate TouchWiz.
Would you guys still suggest the Samsung Galaxy S3 even after more than a year since it's release?
if u want cm10 or any aosp Rom dont think of GS3 because of closed drivers the camera is still crap on cm10.1 because of that reason
so ur only option would be living with a themed touchwiz and removed blotware otherwise find your self another phone
dont go for s3
buy any htc or a sony device that u can afford.

S3 always gave me good performance. i would recommend the same. you have many custom roms other than touchwiz that work perfectly as the stock f/w's. i feel so sad about the people using this phone supporting other brands.
Yeah as mentioned, if you want AOSP, go for something qualcomm based.
Camera IMHO is pretty good if you use the aosp camera mod from xda. Just poor in low light but sammy camera isn't much better in low light anyway
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Get it
It's a good phone in general, but on stock the RAM and CPU shows it's age. It's not exceptional in the graphics department, same GPU as S2
And the battery is kind of short compared to, say, the note II.
Ok, I see your point. It was probably the same thing about the drivers with the Galaxy S2. Always had problems in custom ROM's with the camera and the sound in some ways.
Like I feared, the S3 might be a bit better than the S2 in performance because of the better processor but since it has the same GPU and same amount of RAM, it shouldn't much different overall.
As I said, I want the Nexus 4 but it's hard to find it here in my country for an acceptable price (even then it's still not easy finding one).
Since some of you suggested HTC or Sony, what do you guys think about the One X? I can also find the HTC One X for around €300 which is OK imo.
But one of my friend has it, and he has problems with the Wifi a lot. The reception is very low, and sometimes his phone just won't start, or at times it wont play any kind of media, like music and videos and so on. That's why Im worried about the HTC One X. As for the Sony alternative, they do not have any good phones besides the new Xperia Z and upwards IMO.
I guess I will wait and see if I can find a Nexus4 for a month or so, but I really, REALLY want to move away as far as possible from the Iphone and get back ASAP to Android. At the end of the day, I think I will still be better with a Custom Rom based on Touchwiz than iOS.
May god help me.
i9300 is so much more comfortable to hold than the i9100, a huge improvement there. Right now I would buy the HTC One, but it's expensive
Oh well, I just bought a new sgs3 from my carrier subsidized and it's the best phone I could've bought for the money.
I'm coming from an abused HTC Desire so the upgrade is huge.
Still on stock rom so I'm experiencing some lag when pushing the phone a bit. Will probably root/custom rom in the near future.
Was aiming for the HTC One X + but couldn't find it anymore for sale.
Had my s3 for a year now and i love it. Its big screen is much better for me than iPhone 4s which my partner uses.

Yes, it's still a good deal to buy it and it's still has support from Samsung, so it's means that it's will get latest updates.:good:
