[Tutorial][Solved 4th post]Update Android Market to v3.1.5

Hey all,
Has anyone had a problem with android market update from v2.3.4 to 3.1.5 other then me. I tried all the tricks and followed all the steps that android market
help told me to do but it just won't work. But all my brothers and cousins got it! Help please
Connect your phone to WiFi for a night, the next morning, it will be in 3.1.5 (that happened to me)
Or you have to root your device to get it.
Accidentally sent from my Google Nexus S using XDA Premium
Have you tried manually installing the apk by replacing vending.apk in /system/app?
If not, that should do it for you. Get the apk and put it on your SD card. Using Root Explorer: find the apk and copy it. Navigate to /system/app and mount as r/w (the button to do so is at the top). Long-press the current Vending.apk and rename it to anything (ie vending.bak), then paste the new one. Long-press the new one and rename it to Vending.apk (I'm not sure if capitalization matters, so capitalize it just in case) if it's named something else. Long-press again and select permissions from the list. Change the permissions to rw-r--r--, so the box looks like this:
Owner: x x o
Group: x o o
Other: x o o
Where x's are checked and o's are not. Then reboot.
You should now have the new market. If you don't, remove com.android.vending-1.apk from /data/app or go to settings > applications > manage applications > "all" tab, find Market and select "uninstall updates".
It you don't have Root Explorer, there are free file explorers available with root abilities. ES File Explorer should work, you may need to enable root privileges in the app's settings.
You have to be rooted (and possibly s-off) to be able to do this. If you aren't rooted, you can try uninstalling updates from the Market and hopefully that will trigger it to update to the latest version.

(SOLVED )GPS permission fix with Root Explorer

I have a tablet that does not have GPS and it causing me not to be able to download certain apps ( facebook, evernote etc.. ) i know its due to the developer GPS manifest or at least I think I do, I have seen a thread on here about using script to add permission of gps to the tablet so the market will let me have these apps due to their lovely filters, can someone help me with a step by step edit using script manager, I think I have found the right area system/etc/permissions/tablet xml etc... but im just still kinda new at this, I have sideloaded some apps to get around this but there are many apps i use that i cant find and would like to get this script changed, please help
Here is how to fix this issue
A. Backup /system/etc/permissions (just take a copy with ES file explorer or root explorer.recommended just in case)
B. copy the xmlfiles files into /system/etc/permissions (android.hardware.location.gps.xml, android.hardware.location.xml, com.android.location.provider.xml, tablet_core_hardware.xml) agree to over write all of them
C. Make sure the file permission are rw-r-r (with ES file explorer, long tap then change properties on each file..to help you out all files in that directory need to be rw-r-r)
D. Go to settings->apps->all and tap Google Play Store
E. Click on Clear data
F. REBOOT tablet
market still not working
Go to settings->apps->all Go to “Google Play Store” again
‘Clear Cache’ if it lets you then ‘Force Stop’ — DO NOT Clear data
back and Go to “Google Services Framework”
‘Clear data’ then ‘Force Stop’
REBOOT your machine.
Then after reboot market is still not working.. then go into..
settings->apps->all google play store again open it but this time clear data if it lets you..
thats it exit open market up, login and you should now have full market access
Get the xml files from this link http://www.mediafire...ft28i70alfchc0m
Can you repost the xml files? I am wondering if I can follow these steps to do this on a Amazon FireTV.
Files ..Dave..you can get the files here: android. googlesource. com/platform/frameworks/native/+/master/data/etc - i put a space in the link as I dont have enough permissions to post external links yet

google play store and internet speed fix(2 in one)

hi there:
i know sometimes googleplay store won't download or slow download or connection timeout(retry connect).
or sometimes you see your download speed too slow.
try my method i wish it will fix your problems:
first you should be rooted:
for google play fix ...you will need es file explorer(search in google if you don't have it).
open es file explorer >>press on menu key(option key in your phone)>>click on tools>>root explorer>>
mount r/w>>make (/) and /system >>>r/w.
then go to system directory>etc folder>there is file called hosts>>delete this file.(using es file explorer).
then on es file explorer >press on menu key(option key in your phone)>>click on tools>>root explorer>>
mount r/w>>make (/) and /system >>>r/o.(to protect system and prevent malware to enter system).
by this you will fix google play problem.
for internet speed fixyou don't need root):
from play store download and install :wifi settings (dns,ip,gateway).
then open it click on current dns and select open dns home .
after that click applay.
you are done.
i make this and worked for me(on galaxy s4 verizon on 4.4.2).
Nice solution
I don't know how it fixed play store download issue but it did and previously I tried every thing to get rid of it but in vein. I was stuck for weeks thanks a lot man.

[L9 II] SOLVED No apps can access the sdcard, not even the stock LG ones or mtp

Today i tried clearing the spotify cache and somehow it managed to break my sdcard. I tried deleting the cache folder myself but i couldnt do so. After rebooting i cant modify ANY sdcard file or folder. Not even via MTP. The camera app doesnt save the pictures, the file manager says failed. Please don't link me the SDFix. I don't want it. It worked just fine even without it so i don't understand where is the problem? The catlog is below. Honestly this happened before when i tried to use an app like foldermount.
Edit: Something made the external_SD read-only instead of r/w . The fix is relatively easy if you have root (well i don't think you can get into this situation without root):
Just download ES File Explorer then drag the menu from left and tap on root explorer (not the on/off button) and then Mount r/w and tap on the RW dot next to /mnt/media_rw/external_SD and tap OK

[GUIDE][ROOT] Enable Google Now / Google cards / Now cards for any country.

Many of Android users have been locked out Google cards (Now cards) service because of their location being NOT SUPPORTED. This is a way to re-enable the service with no VPN, removing sim or deleting account.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not responsible nor have legal obligations if your device happens to die, lose data or explode. always have a Nandroid backup or any type of data backup you're comfortable with.
This is a tested and verified method on Android Lollipop , KitKat and Jellybean. The country of testing is Syrian Arab Republic (Syria). Would appreciate feedback from other countries.
For this you need couple of things first:
1- Be rooted.
2- Download a launcher if you only have Google Now launcher. (Nova Launcher here).
3- Download a root file manager. (Solid Explorer File Manager here)
3- Download the attached file below (velvet.apk) DO NOT INSTALL. and put it in a known location on your local storage or SD card.
The procedure:
1- Clear Google app data from settings and uninstall updates.
2- Open the Root file manager and go to the root folder. Then navigate to "data/dalvik-cache/and delete [email protected] [email protected]@classes.dex".
NOTE: Lollipop users navigate to "data/dalvik-cache/arm/[email protected]@[email protected]"
3- Return to root and then navigate to "System/priv-app/ and backup "velvet.apk" and then delete it.
NOTE: Lollipop users navigate to "system/priv-app/Velvet/velvet.apk".
3- Copy velvet.apk file you just downloaded to the same directory on step (3) and change permissions to 644.
4- Fix velvet.apk permisions to 644 (view attached photo) and the reboot device.
5- Open Google app and opt-in, agree and go on.
6- Open Play Store and update Google Search to the latest version.
7- OPTIONAL: Navigate to the same directory on step (3) and restore system original velvet.apk which you've backed up and then reboot. This may help for new OTAs to arrive on some devices that checks all root/system/directory for any changes. OTA update may fail if it detects that user has changed system files. (Personally never had that problem on my Nexus 7 2013 LTE. I did NOT do this step and i still get OTA updates).
Now the "Now cards" service should be active on your latest Google app version. and you can re-use your Google now launcher with the left panel activated.:good::laugh:

No Dice on 6.0.1 [Note 2]
Just tried on Note 2 [SGH-i317], 6.0.1 custom by Resurrection Remix and it didn't work.
Followed instructions as described [files were in same folders as description for Lollipop] and the Google app was completely gone upon reboot. Reinstalled from GPlay but it didn't work. Gonna give VPN a try, though I was hoping for a Root workaround.
Thanks for the help! Any further insight is appreciated, even though I know this wasn't intended for Marshmallow.
I tried this Velvet.apk on Android 6.0.1 and it caused bootloop. Is there a Marshmallow-compatible Velvet.apk which can bypass geo-restrictions?
