Is the Sammy Note 3 a world phone? Does it have a sim slot? Possible to unlock by carrier or by devs?
judging by the s4 i would say its a world phone, sim unlockable by carrier and once autoprime gets to work by him too.

I really need help with this one. I just bought an ATT Samsung galaxy note i717 to use with simple mobile. Unfortunately, simple mobile data speed is so slow that I decided to go with Straight Talk. I got the Straight Talk sim card last night and immediately pop it in my galaxy note. Signal strength look excellent, call quality was also great.
My excitement ended when I decided to set up my data through the APN. Unfortunately, when I open the APN tab, ATT appears but when I try editing so as to make the necessary changes, the APN cannot be edited!! I have tried everything and now am at a lost! I have called ST and they say it should work since infact my phone is an ATT phone. This phone is also unlocked. When I place the simple mobile sim card in the phone, I can definitely edit T-Mobile in the APN settings. I called Samsung Customer service, and was told that Straight Talk is not part of their support network.
Please people, I really need help configuring this problem. Any help out there will be highly appreciated!!

What happens if you hit the menu button ? Do you have the option to ADD APN ?

Do a search for ST or Straight Talk in the Note threads. I seem to remember reading something about the proxy needs to be deleted. Anyway, I think your answer is here. Just search some. Good luck.
EDIT: Here, I found something that might help. Try the second post suggestion, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630402.
Im alsothinking about making the switch to straight talk. The speeds for SIMPLE MOBILE throttle from 6 Mbps to 120 Kbps on download speeds. Its truly not consistent. I got the SAUROM ROM with the Tmo_SGH_T989_VKL1_radio_ATTNOTE.zip tmobile modem at first. I called simple mobile and told them y the hell is my speeds to damn slow. As usual, they give the run around. So I to think it was the modem. So I change from GB to ICS and had the same result from different radio bands. I just purchase this sim card yesterday. On the 05/02/12. So I will be paying attention to this thread for answers.

I have been running my i717 note on straight talk for the past month or so and am loving it. Had an Infuse before that. I am getting great speeds. All I did was add a new APN and then put the dot next to it once done.
I had tried simple mobile before though on a G2x but it was just horrid on speed. I tested the phone on the SM sim and an actual t-mobile sim. Difference in day and night. The SM one was actually faster if you forced edge speed!

Thanks so much guys for all of you advice. I was able add a new APN and it all workout. Infact I am currently enjoying 4G speed with clear reception on my i717 galaxy note since infact I am on ATT network. Super fast speed people! Simple mobile network was giving edge speed. ST is way better. Thanks again people.

Why would you get kicked off? Do you mean for excessive data usage?
I've been on it for a couple of weeks, no problems here. But, I don't use a lot of data either. I try to stay on wifi when possible.
here are links for the modems

Here is the info you are looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044449
It is funny you mention only AT&T comes in at your work because the building I work in is bad for cell signals but AT&T has repeaters in the building and they are actually upgrading them to 4G currently.

If I were to buy the galaxy s4 for verizon and end up changing carriers in the next couple months, would I be able to use the phone on a network like at&t or tmobile? I know that in past phones, this wouldn't have worked since they have never used sim cards, but now that theres a sim card for lte, would it work if I put whatever carriers sim card in the verizon s4? This is kind of a long-shot I'm guessing, but just wanted to see if this is possible.

I see no reason why that wouldn't work. Although I'm sure Verizon could come up with some way to screw you over.
It's been answered many times already. Please do a search.
But yes, it will.

The presence of a Sim card doors not mean it's compatible. It is the presence of hardware GSM radios that makes it compatible.

Ok fellas, now before I ask my question, I just rant to let you know I've been a member here for quite a while, and the reason I have such a low post count is because I always do my reading before I waste someone's time.
In this case, all the posts I've read are old and outdated, and none of them provide a solid answer.
So my question here is...can the I9300 get H+ or 4g on T-Mobile network now? I've read first that NO the phone doesn't support their 4g band and never will because it lacks the hardware, that I totally understand, just like the cdma gs3 cannot do the same.
Now with that being said, I've also seen threads saying T-Mobile is adding a new band to support their byop program for people with unlocked phones.
All these I had read had old days on them with the most recent one on Feb 2013.
So does anyone have a straight answer for me?
I have a customer that brought me her fried T-Mobile gs3 and basically I kept get LCD A's transplanted it into a spare i9300 that my girlfriend brought me from Hong Kong.
I know the phone doesn't support LTE and that's fine, it's the 4g/H+ I'm concerned about, and if its possible what has to be done? New modem flash? Custom Rom?
Any help or info is greatly appreciated. ^_^

Not seen anything posted .
As TMobile have now merged with Orange possible its under the new EE brand .
I read a few threads and am confused, so I thought I would just ask. I have a few 4G LTE devices for Verizon and am ready to switch to AT&T. Let's just say that Verizon and I had an argument and it is time to switch. Plus I would be saving over $50 to switch to AT&T with a month to month with a BYOP plan.
I visited the AT&T store today and had them insert a SIM into my S4. I get the error "This SIM card is from an unknown source" in the banner. I get a signal strength and a H for where the data symbol 4GLTE is. Then it drops the signal and refuses to have a data connection. At this time the APN settings were NOT adjusted. This was a straight out of the box S4 rooted on NC5 with Android version 4.4.2. After messing with the S4 for awhile he moved to the S3 and entered the proper APN settings. It pulled data, but only at EDGE speeds or 1X. Also, my last device, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, has no way of editing the APN settings. It is NOT rooted and is still on stock firmware.
My questions are these:
1. Can this be done?
2. What do I need to do to the phone(s)/tablet to make it work?
3. Will I be able to get 4G speeds?
I do not want to purchase phones with AT&T today because I just don't have the money. I already have these devices, I just want to swap them over. I am comfortable with flashing using ODIN and even so far as using safe-strap. I have flashed some custom roms, but my phone is a daily grind phone and I really want something that works 90% of the time.
Thanks in advance for any help!

That thread just asks if the SIM card would work and if they would need to flash a GSM ROM to their S4. That thread does not answer the questions I asked. I just gave my insight after a visit with the AT&T store. Store techs tend to not know as much as the XDA community. That is why I asked here. So no, it is not a redundant thread. I appreciate your answer, but it isn't what I am looking for. Not a straight up yes or no, this or that.
As for the GSM locks I discussed, it was from an experience I had with a Motorola Droid 2 and using it on a local GSM provider in the USA. So yes, that was pre LTE.

My point, which you apparently missed, is that there is no reason for starting up yet another thread to ask questions that have already been answered. That''s why I said that this is redundant.
OK, let me answer your questions.
1. Can this be done?
Yes, you can install an AT&T SIM, set up the APN, and it will work. What bands you get and what bandwidth you get depends on what bands AT&T are using in your area. You won't likely be able to get LTE speed; most likely just Edge. You can't fix that, as it's a limitation of the phone's radio hardware. Again, some people have made claims that you can flash the AT&T GS4 modem on a Verizon phone and change that, but that's pretty risky as it will likely brick your phone.
2. What do I need to do to the phone(s)/tablet to make it work?
It works, for some level of "work". If you're stock, some people have reported that the firmware requires CDMA for some functions, like SMS. I haven't verified that. I was able to send SMS with my phone and a UK SIM which uses the AT&T network.
3. Will I be able to get 4G speeds?
Not likely. For example, see here http://phandroid.com/2012/12/10/nexus-4-att-lte/ - the common band, LTE Band 4, has limited AT&T coverage.
I haven't gone over the specs of the two phones lately to match them up, so that may be worth looking at again.

Thank you for your answer. I decided to trade the phones into AT&T and get a credit towards a Samsung S4 and a Asus Padphone X. After I read a few more posts over the internet and a few more hours figuring out how LTE works I came across the answer. I did miss what you meant and I apologize. Again, thank you for your answer.
