Great phone for the price. But please check whether the software version is 2.3.5 . Then don't buy it. The boot loader cannot be unlock. waste of a great hardware. Same thing happend to me. I don't know about us cellular. I'm using a refurbished sprint.

Photon for us cellular is known as Electricity and it is without 4g.
As like the previous post only buy android 2.3.4 phones. You can unlock it and install any custom roms.
Photon and electrify are 1 ghz dualcore 1 gb ram phones.

from motorola..
Motorola: While the Motorola PHOTON 4G software does not include an unlockable/relockable bootloader, we intend to include this feature in software releases starting in late 2011 where operator and channel partners will allow it. Apologies for any confusion.
This does not mean they will unlock the Atrix bootloader

That would probably be one of the major selling points of the incoming Motorola handsets in late 2011, so we can expect unlockable software on Atrix after approximately 3 to 6 months?

Never knows but for now no more motorola for me, the thing its I love htc but they don't make so many phones for at&t bands that are for ny country so I'm kind stuck.
Perhaps a new light appear,i will transfer ny data plan(stupid carrier its expensive cancel the contract) now I need sell my atrix and buy the evo 3D
Thanks motorola I trust in you...
Don't take me wrong I do like the phone, its amazing fast,i like entertainment center.but I don't like what motorola do to keep customers...not sure if they will unlock bootloader late like they said I don't trust anymore

Is the Evo 3d locked too? I assume that's the phone people on Sprint will be buying either way.

People on Sprint would have bought it regardless. Just because it has the word EVO in it.
But HTC caved and is unlocking bootloaders.

Htc is shipping dev's s-off sensations (unlocked bootloaders).
Really sucks to be on moto at the moment, so much potential!

Waiting for the HTC Sensation to support the bands used by major Canadian providers (850/1900). As soon as it drops I'm getting rid of my Atrix!

Read it again, buddy. I'm waiting for a version to be released that has 850/1900 3G bands. I'm scouring the internet waiting to hear more news about the Sensation or Evo 3D to be released with these bands for 3G so I can ditch the Atrix.
This is a great phone and all but I only got it to tide me over until something better came along. I had an HTC Desire Z before. And I liked it a lot better than the Atrix. Ah well... hopefully I don't have to wait much longer. I'd keep this phone if the bootloader were unlocked but it looks like there isn't much promise (yes, following the threads in the Dev forum but it looks like a ways off still).

Droid X2 from USA to India??

Hey people!!
Just wanted to know if I can be lucky and run this baby in India on a GSM network?
If so, how and what do I need?
Someone is coming from USA...but what about the contract with Verizon??
And performance wise which is better X1, X2 RAZR or Bionic??
Thanx!
You can't run this phone on a GSM network, it is a CDMA phone.
Contracts from foreign countries are something you need not worry about.
I suggest the Droid 2 Global for use on a GSM network. My dad has one and it's great.
I think the only one of those that is a "world phone" is the Droid RAZR. All the others are CDMA (and LTE in the case of the Bionic which does take a SIM card but only for LTE). Droid RAZR seems to be GSM compatible, and has the same specs as the Bionic, as well as an improved screen.

I don't think there's fees, just one of the perks of having a world phone, and I would say either bionic or raze, x2 only has half the ram.
Or why not an attic, basically same as bionic but gsm

He's right. Go with an already GSM phone if you're going to use on GSM. Motorola Atrix is Tegra 2 like Droid X2 but with more RAM, and Atrix 2 is TI OMAP4 like D3, Bionic, and RAZR, and has an improved screen over DX2, D3, and Bionic.

Lastly, the Razr isn't even available yet, lol. You are going to have an issue with a phone that doesn't exist, at least not physically in your hands.

I lol'd. Srsly I don't think the RAZR Is even globabl capable, if you want a strong phone that's global I'd say Atrix or D3. Bionic and Razr prety much the same, 200 mhz difference which I'm sure is a result of the Bionic being underclocked. Im sure that'll be fixed soon since the source code has been released. Razr does have super amoled but it also is pentile, same w/ the Nexus Prime. Built in Battery in the Razr for me no bueno, and no SD card on the Nexus = da fuq.
They announced there will be European and possibly Asian versions, but it could be like what they did for the Droid 1, made 2 different phones that looked the same with different antenna's, Droid and Milestone. Either way, launch is what 2-3 weeks away, lol.

I don't think they have released that info yet. You might want to check with your carrier.

Carriers in India aren't that strong a player...but I will keep a check...also, the Droid X2 is cool, but CDMA...anyway to get that working outside the current network...? I mean it will be Verizon, but here it will be Reliance...so anyway to get that working here..?
I would say, tell your friend to call Verizon and ask to have it unlocked. Once he/she gets to India they will have to give the MEID/ESN numbers to Reliance. Then, will probably have to open new service with them and get a new number. Verizon uses a specific spectrum range for CDMA, thus why the phone doesn't work on Sprint's CDMA network. The phone may, or may not be compatible with Reliance CDMA, but I could be wrong.

thanx! That helped me make my decision...Droid RAZR or Bionic. Mostly it will be RAZR.
In India, CDMA isn't as strong as GSM. Anyways...thanx everyone who replied. Every answer waw helpful. Just a question, more to myself than to U guys, why would Motorola make such a cool device wig CDMA technology and not GSM?
Anyways...
Verizon outweighs all GSM competitors in the US. They know the users typically who want the most bang for their buck android device want it on Verizon before with 3G CDMA and now 4G LTE and CDMA. Our GSM providers are horrible.

Motorola Electrify

How different is the Electrify from the Photon? Is it a world phone as well. Does it have the WCDMA band 2100? Would i be able to use it for GSM and 3G in India?

Yup only difference in the photon is the wimax radio. Photon comes with sprint sim, electrify doesn't have anything preinstalled. For giggles I took my sprint sim and put it in my brothers electrify, sadly it didn't really do anything other than pop up a 'sim inserted' notification.

From my understanding if you got a sim card from a carrier in India and put it in the phone it will work. Other than a few carrier specific things they are pretty much the same phone.

So basically, its an inferior version of the Photon. Wonder why anyone would buy it? Is it substantially cheaper?

Its not that it's inferior. US cellular doesn't use sim cards in any of their phones son there is no need for one. Sprint uses sim cards and therefore the photon has to have one to work on their network. Put one in the electrify and activate it and it will work. Not sure of how to activate it though. Other than that and the radio differences their the same phone spec for spec.

From the android central review I think the led actually works right and some other bit of software actually works right.
And sprint does not use sim cards in the us.

Sprint doesn't use SIM cards, they have SIM cards to make international roaming easier. Its a roaming agreement with another carrier so you don't have to buy a card in the country you visit and the international data and voice is just billed straight to your regular bill. Only issue with this is price, its much cheaper to buy a prepay plan where ever you go than use sprints roaming agreements. US cellular sees this fact a chooses to not offer international roaming, only offer a phone that makes it possible.
Like I said the only difference is in the wimax radio, which is useless even in 95% of the US.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Verizon and Sprint don't use simcard. Just take a evo or epic touch and you will see no simcard slot. But some phones have a simcard slot for European traveling. Att t mobile use simcards only.

Sounds to me like its still inferior. I understand the SIM card is only included for convience.
But the Electrify still lacks Wimax supports making it an inferior phone. Why buy an inferior phone? Is there a big price difference?
Have bought one from ebay. Price is cheaper by about $40 to the Photon. Planning to use the phone on GSM, so lack of Wimax does not worry me.They support the WCDMA band 2100, which is the 3G band for all GSM carriers in India. 4G will take an eternity to come to India Does anyone use the Electrify on GSM over here? Does it take a long time to boot like the Photon? If so, is there a work around like for the Photon?
Thanks . . Planning to buy it in India.

Isn't wimax obsolete anyway? Everyone supporting it dumped it and left sprint at the alter. Only a few cities got duped into building networks. My son bought a 3D a few months ago and is upset that he has no hope for any high speed support beyond 3g/ 4g or wifi in less then 5% of US, and that percentage should be shrinking not growing. Its like saying a bluray player is inferior to dual HD DVD/bluray player.
so from what im reading if i understand right even if you live in an area that has 4g for sprint with the electrify you cant use it? so the motorola photon 4g mb855 doesnt connect to 4g? or doesnt connect to sprint carrier?

The Electrify doesn't have a WiMax radio. It has no way to connect to any 4g signal at all. You can be saturated in 4g signal, but it wont make its 3g any faster.
The Photon is only capable of connecting to Sprint/ClearaWire WiMax 4G. No ATT or VZW LTE 4G.

it'd be nice after US Cellular gets 4g we can get the 4g radio put in...b/c I know theres a space for it.

US Cellular starts to roll out 4G early next year, By the time it gets to all USCC Markets the Electrify will be old tech and no-one will want it by then....

Suggest a dual-core android phone

Can someone please suggest me a few dual-core android based phones? I was away for some time and so I was not able to keep up with the new releases and with the price drops of the old ones.
I'll be using it outside US so it should be SIM unlocked so that I can put any GSM SIM.
Can be a World phone or GSM only phone.
I can consider buying used or refurb phone.
Should have good dev support.
Budget is $150-$230
Considered Motorola Photon 4g. What are my other options? Anything HTC?
Thanks

atrix hd or droid razr??

hi guys not long ago a was a member of this forum.. hell i still check more than my atrix 2 forum .....
i sold my atrix 4g and got the atrix 2
now i bought an motorola droid razr for me and i got my sister an atrix hd (she has a atrix 4g atm)//
i would like to know which one should i choose??... i can trick her into any of them .. user rattings for droid razr are higher and i bet support on xda is better where atrix hd is better overall in hardware where support on xda is lower// which should be my phone ?
also i will be confirming later on if the droid razr (clean esn) can be activated on a gsm network outside the US like Orange or Claro in Dominican Republic
I'll go with the razr, an unlockeable bootloader is by far much better
sent from the gray stuff inside my skull
sorry for coming off so rude , i have nothing but respect for all devs that work for our devices
I'll go for the atrix hd, I am Dominican and I can tell you that american cdma phones are useless here, (in terms of cellular data)
