I'm officially done with Verizon for obvious reasons.
Many about the future of Verizon.
How can I get Verizon to kick me off so I can switch to Sprint without termination my contract and paying. Is this possiblr?

What I did to get rid of a line was to say it was a family members that passed away and they said ok and not ETF

How do I do this and is there a expensive roaming fee or something? I want the method to be completely free.

Roaming within the US is free for you, but it isn't for them, and that's they key. They tolerate some roaming, but when you roam a lot, you aren't worth it to them as a customer anymore because you're costing them more than you're paying them.

I'm right there with you, man. I'm just hoping that between now and December of 2013 (when my VZW contract ends) Sprint can improve the strength of their network.
Why wouldn't you just ride out your contact or did they recently screw you over personally with something?
I'm going to milk unlimited as long as I can personally.

If you are unhappy and want out of a contract you agreed to, pay the ETF. It is the easiest and fastest method. Any other way is going to take more of your time and aggravation than what it is worth, pay the ETF and you are free to go where you want and you can be officially done.
What are the obvious reasons for leaving Verizon? It's a matter of time before unlimited data is cut from all carriers.

Sprint went WiMAX and dragged their feet with it then decided to start all over with lte. Needless to say it will be a while. Reason I switched to big red this year.

You signed a contract. You are legally obligated to to finish it out unless the contract is broken from the other side. If you are mad at Verizon for some reason like taking away unlimited, it is not a violation for them so you need to ride it out or pay the etf.

By roam do you guys mean "extended network"? I was in the middle of no where, basically, last week for court and my phone said extended network instead of Verizon. Was just wondering, that's what I assume anyway.
Also why don't you just pay the ETF? It's not like it's a thousand dollars. Do you have multiple lines or something?

I thought I remember hearing that depending how much time is left on contract the amount of the ETF may change. Eg: only have 2 months left (partial ETF) vs 1 year left (full ETF). Could be wrong, but worth checking into.

I live in the middle of an "extended network area" so I roam every day unless I travel for work. I have 4 phones on my plan, Verizon don't care.....
Oh only 10 a month off the ETF? Some do like so much for data and so much for voice but I guess they are all different lol.. How much is the ETF?
Hey guys, if anybody could provide me with some solid/sure answer to my noobish curiosity, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Okay, I'm currently on a Verizon basic phone (talk & text, no data). Since I like the Note II so much, I might get one off contract, provide if Verizon would give me a miniSIM Card with no data plan on it. I have WIFI at work and at home, so I don't really see the point of paying for $30 Data.
Although I'm due for upgrade in April, I would like save the $30 per month for the next two years.
Anyway, Note II OFF-Contract on Verizon with no data plan? Is that possible? Thanks...

Yup. Welcome to Verizon. I know T-Mobile will let you since they goofed and did it to my on accident. But far as I am still aware at&t, Verizon and sprint all require a data plan on smart phones regardless of how you buy it.

Yes Verizon will require data on a smart phone regardless.
The imei identifies the device on the network.
It is illegal to change it.
Its how they make there money...if it was possible everyone would do it.

You could always just use it as a big media player. Youll get the same functionality as you are expecting to get already sans the phone and texting useage. Ive got a friend that uses an original note for that purpose. Of course his is the korean version so its a no go on the phone side anyway. Of course that would be a very expensive meda player!

Thanks for all the responses from everyone. I guess Verizon Note II is out of the question. Going to go T-Mobile prepaid mid-june.
$30/month for a) 5GB of 4G Data, Unlimited Text, 100 mins. Or b) 1500 whenever minutes or text (no data-- just use WIFI).

Is there any way I can actually do this? On their website they won't let me checkout with a device by itself and forces me to select one of their new plans. I will be back in the States in exactly 1 month and I figured since they're backordered right now, I can just order now and have it waiting for me when I get back. I am not currently a T-Mobile customer if that helps. I plan to activate it on a prepaid plan but they only have postpaid plans in the plan selection on the website. Thanks!
Good question..I'd like to know this too. I'm currently on the $30 100 min plan and can't order it without selecting new service.
The good thing about the new plans is you cancel or change your plan anytime. You just keep paying the 20 a month for the phone. Go ahead and do it and then just switch your plan to prepaid when you receive the phone.

You don't continue paying the 20 a month. Once you cancel the plan the total remaining balance is due on next bill.
OP - ONLY way to purchase a phone without service is in store. Even then they won't sell it to you without service unless they are well stocked. Not gonna sell limited supply to non customers

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum.
I called Verizon to purchase a new phone out-of-contract. The sales rep told me that Verizon no longer allows out-of-contract purchases, their only option is month-to-month. She confirmed that this would take away my unlimited data.
I'm not sure if she's right so I'm asking folks here. Is this true, does Verizon no longer allow you to buy their phones without giving up unlimited data?
You can still buy phones full retail, but you do need to have service with Verizon - perhaps the rep thought out-of-contract meant you didn't have service anymore.
I had to buy mine at best buy when I bought off contract

I thought so too, but I clarified with her that I have an existing service with Verizon; that's how she saw my unlimited data plan.
I would try either going to a Verizon store or another rep. I can't see how they can deny you from giving them more money.

It is but they shouldnt remove your unlimited data. Month to month is when your contract is up and you are eligible for an upgrade. I have heard a few rumors they are getting rid of unlimited next year and its final but they can't force you to upgrade.

In theory you should be able to pop your sim card out of your old 4G phone and put it in a new, off-contract phone and have it work without issue. Maybe since you're trying to buy it through Verizon, they're pushing their shared data crap.

This might be somewhat related to the topic but I try to do a device exchange for my wife who lost her phone. She went from an Android to an old iPhone4 and when I try to do it online the website was forcing me to upgrade my account meaning I would lose my unlimited data so instead I just called over the phone and did it OTA device change. It worked.

Not so bad if you do the unlimited data bait & switch. Not all of us have the convenience of reliable coverage from multiple carriers in our areas regardless of what coverage maps show.
Quit judging, I'm just passing on info man.
There's a reason Sprint is cheap, their coverage sucks.

Some of us don't care as we are already WITH these carriers. If we are going to use them anyway, why not take advantage of a free phone?? (I am with ATT not verizon but same ol' same ol')
I am sick of peoples insistance that contract free is so great. If you live outside the USA, MAYBE, inside the USA that is not even close to true unless you A.) enjoy crap service B.) barely move C.) Never use your phone.
I would take AT&T or Verizon over any prepaid crap service and featureless "plan" any day of the week, hands down. I have tried many difference prepaid services and they are all the same, terrible spotty service, slow speeds, and hack call quality. Again this does not apply outside the USA, but here, prepaid is AWFUL.
I have no interest in swapping carriers, therefor I chose to use my upgrades and get free/discounted phones since I am going to continue to use AT&T anyway. My plan price does not go down if I do not, there is no advantage to me for not upgrading other than allowing to me to switch carriers.

That's a really good deal. And what he said I have no intentions of leaving Verizon so it I'm going to pay the same anyway might as well upgrade. I lost my unlimited and now I'm on the 6 gig plan. Some of us don't care about being locked into a contract. Where I live Verizon's coverage is so much better than everyone else's that I'll gladly pay more for it. Also, Verizon is offering former unlimited customers 6 GB of data for the 2 GB price with no additional strings attached. So the little to no data usage part doesn't apply either.
Did the exact same thing. BF $49 and cyber monday free. I took my receipt to best buy and they credited back my card. It was simple and fast.
Ordered mine for $0. Added as a new line. I already have a S3 on unlimited. Planning to break the contract immediately after activation and pay $350 ETF. Pay 1 day prorated monthly charge. Profit :good:. Sell my S3 for $180-$200 on ebay. U cant get such a good phone for $350 and still retain unlimited.
Have chat transcripts with VZW reps..who said doing such a thing will only result in a $350 ETF!!

You can get the deal if you use the loophole. I just did it twice, once for my line and just this week for my wife's line.
We both had upgrades due on our unlimited lines. We have 5 lines total on a national family plan, 2 are feature phones & 3 are smartphones. I transferred our upgrades to the feature phone lines, got the g2's at the promo price, and activated the new phones on the former feature phone lines. Immediately reactivated the feature phones on their respective lines by dialing *228 which deactivated the new phones and automatically cancelled the mandatory data plans required by the upgraded devices. Now that both new phones are free from their original lines, I popped in our SIM cards which reactivated the new phones on our unlimited lines.
So, new phones for promo pricing and unlimited data retained=win/win.
