With the latest update, it is very obvious that our evo lte is nearing the end of its supported lifespan (both sprint and dev community). Many of us who purchased the evo lte on the release date aren't eligible for an upgrade until 1/1/2014 which is really only a few months away. I usually try to keep my phones for a full 24 months so I want to go with a tri band lte phone and it seems that there are a few options. I am curious to find out what everyone is waiting for... At this point, I think I am holding out for the Nexus 5 although I have never owned a LG device so I am a bit apprehensive. Samsung mega is too big and I don't really want to wait until March/April for the GS5. Does anyone have any thoughts? Did I miss anything? How is the mod community for Samsung? LG?
Note 3(not tri-band)
LG G2 (October 11th - Preorder - Oct 25 release)
HTC One Max
LG Nexus 5 (Last week of October?)

Sorry to start yet another thread on this but I wasn't able to find anything recent or useful.

The nexus 5 radio does support the LTE 800 band which is exclusive to Sprint. While that isn't confirmation, it does make me hopeful.

the only thing preventing me from going to verizon & ATT is the data caps. I keep thinking what's the point of LTE if there's a cap? also having to actively think about whether i'm going over is not something i want to do. i'm looking more at tmobile, hopefully they are okay in illinois.
Probably the Nexus 5. But since I don't have an upgrade until May, I'll stick this one out with 4.3 and Sense 5 and wait for what HTC has to offer in 2014.
I'm waiting to see what htc will release next year

I'm going nexus 5 and ditching Sprint as soon as it comes out. For me, I've been wanting a nexus for the google supported updates, and a carrier free phone. The Sprint network is basically becoming a joke for me, with many places in Stl having no data connection at all. I hope the n5 is as affordable as the n4, and with the snapdragon 800, 1080p, 2gb specs it appears it will be top of the line this time. For the network, I will either join up on a shared tmo plan or get straight talk att.

regarding upgrading:
I decided on the NEXUS 5 after playing with my new-to-me e4glte for a week now. Great upgrade from my Evo3d. Sprint wanted $149 on upgrade, or $449 for the Nexus5. Wtf? its $349 from google??!?!
So I pulled a smooth move and bought a 32gig Iphone 5c for $199... then walked right down to gamestop and promptly got $448 plus 30% extra (bought a used game for a dollar) = $582. So minus my $199 purch price and I netted enough to pay cash for my Nex5 straight from google. SUCK IT SPRINT!
I'm all sort of excited to have a nexus finally. And I love that I can use the NEx5 on most carriers later. AND it will support "spark" from sprint

I'll be waiting for the galaxy SIII.
Edit: Removed sgsIII leaked specs as they were fake
According to that site it will be launched with 3g mode on and 4g lte deactivated?
What about the wimax 4g? I assume that the nexus does not have wimax ?
I live in austin texas and we have 4g wimax but not the 4g lte.
So if I get this nexus phone Im downgrading the Data speed
The sprint 3g speed is absolutely a joke here in austin compared to att/tmobil/verizon.
We barely have descent wimax coverage, there is no way I am gonna be stuck 0n sprints lousy 3g full time. And not to mention wating for sprint to have lte runing in this city.
If this is the case..thanks but No thanks ..Im sticking with my evo 3d till lte comes out

Well that sucks I guess it will be a good buy for someone that lives where they have LTE or where they dont have wimax or lte(nothing to lose)
In my case Austin Texas is suppose to have lte by the end of the year
by that time who knows what other phones will come out. And I am not downgrading my data speed either
What grinds my gears is that Dallas Texas 3 hours north has LTE,SAN ANTONIO 1 hour south got LTE. and Houston TEXAS 1 hour south east got LTE..But not austin
No NEXUS for me
They got the entire other half of florida announced there for lte rollout.

Thanks for picking up my slack. LOL
SGS3 will be interesting rap when it gets to Sprint to see what specs it holds from other versions chip wise and LTE modem wise...
28nm chips are only things I'm looking at personally and Qualcomm has my attention with their integrated modems in the S4's as others tend to have an extra chip to do LTE, which ironically most of the time is Qualcomm's MDM96XX series...

I want the Sprint GN because its still a freaking awesome phone, it's damn comfortable to hold and talk on, and the specs for the moment are awesome (cept the camera, really). I wanna wait for the S3, but there's been no word on US release date, let alone when it'll make it through Sprint's changes and into our hands, or even real concrete specs yet.

since u were nice enough to pm, i'll answer and I think u should do the US version, it's gonna have the dual core which outshines the current quad cores, plus you would have working LTE here instead a slower data, assuming you live in the states, and witht he 2gb of ram, can't really see a reason to go international...
I'm in the same boat but you need to factor in faster dev support on the int compared to the US. If you're a constant flasher like myself, its a hard decision to make.
Here are my pros (YMMV)
Int:
Quad Core
Better GPU
32/64gb int storage (I believe there are 32gb flavors out there)
faster dev support
US:
LTE
2GB
cheaper (i believe full retail is 549.99 or 599.99, correct me if I'm wrong)
I'm in Canada and decided to go LTE because it should still be able to work in Europe when I go. But it has better hardware.
The downside to the international in NA you will be stuck on the EDGE/CDMA network, which is a major downside.

Well at the time the off contract was not available yet it is but thinking its near impossible to get a good price if u want to sell a us version phone without taking a huge hit eg if I want to sell after 14 days yea I can put it at its close to full price but cutting contract is a major drop many more people in my experience buy unlocked devices myself included I'm hating sprint service over all on the lte and epic touch is horrid in the new England area .
I got both cause I will let my gf use the us one maybe lol but as of now I'd rather play with the over clocking and roms in the international forums .
Dev support should be great but as u see in the us sgs2 we are still using repacked stock kernels ..
To many politics over here thus why people say the int version will have more support .. I'm not sure that's true I mean numbers don't lie us and Canada are gonna be big on the dev scene but updates and proper source plague us in the us

Any folks near New York area using ATT service? Do you have coverage when you have some road trip to Bear Mountain or some other hiking place?
My biggest fear was losing data connection when you need the driving direction the most.
Verizon saved me once in Ithaca back then near those wineries, but I am not sure if AT&T can pull off the same there....
Thanks for any comments here.
I am not so concerned about the unlimited thing because my wife will still be using Verizon's unlimited line in our family plan. Not like I lose such option forever.
I'm from Albany, drive down to Long Island a lot, take the Amtrak train occasionally. LTE is hard to come by, but Hspa is pretty consistent. No complaints at all. I jumped from big red in 2011 and haven't looked back. AT&T has been great to me.

AT&T 4G (at least download speeds) are so much slower than VZW's (from speedtests). The upload on AT&T 4G is slightly faster. Overall happy with the service here.
I'm onboard too I switched from Verizon and I'm pleased with the service! Yeah the lte isn't as fast but I barely use data... I was dropping calls left and right on Verizon and I haven't yet on att

Yeah but basically you are paying twice for the phone. Verizon does not lower the price of their plans which includes a new phone subsidy, then on top of that they take the full price of the phone and charge you monthly for that until you pay it off. And lastly a $24 financing charge. Verizon is the ultimate scam corporation.

Sprint where are you?
I'm disappointed we haven't head anything from Sprint lately.
After T-Mobile announced Jump, and then AT&T and Verizon quickly following up with Edge and Next I thought for sure Sprint would announce something. But so far nothing.
And now, no news on the Note 3, one of the big phone releases of the year.
No recent news on Network Vision
Following completion of the Softbank deal I really expected things would really start to roll. Maybe it's too soon but I'm seriously looking at T-Moble and their Jump program.
I visited a Sprint store today and they were less than knowledgeable about the Note 3. It'll probably land sometime in October, but they didn't know when.
I'm going to jump ship to either T-Mobile or AT&T, though. Probably T-Mobile - Maybe I'll actually get usable data rates

Tri-Band Sprint Coverage???/
Has anyone been able to verify yet if the new NOTE 3 will be Tri-Band capable on Sprint? (800mhz, 1900mhz, 2600mhz??) I have been purposely waiting for the Note 3 as I expected it to be tri-band for increased coverage with the 800mhz LTE functionality. I have heard on some other sites however that the Note 3 may not have Sprint Tri-Band LTE capability. If this is true, that would be a Note 3 show stopper for me as we need phones that will offer better and faster LTE coverage, not just the single 1900 default. Anyone heard anything yet?

Here's my question, how many of you came from a Samsung device to the HTC one and are overall happy with there decision? 32gb is a lot of space but.....ya its not removable.
How hard is it to unlock the bootloader cause god knows at&t loves locking down there devices?

1. I had the SGS3 on AT&T and have been using my HTC One since May and I am still sitting on 12GB of free space.
2. Battery has been fine, I had to get my original one replaced through warranty because it kept locking up and the it wasn't properly aligned but the new one actually gives me a much better battery life. I went from 2 hr's screen @ 18 hr's used to almost 3 hr's screen at 20's used. Again I have work e-mail and security software installed on my phone which drains the battery a good amount.
3. Depending on what bootloader version you get with the new device you can either use Revone/Moonshine to unlock the bootloader or if you get a device with the newer bootloader you can still use HTCDEV to unlock it the official way through the manufacturer.

Here's my question, how many of you came from a Samsung device to the HTC one and are overall happy with there decision? 32gb is a lot of space but.....ya its not removable.
How hard is it to unlock the bootloader cause god knows at&t loves locking down there devices?

I've had all Samsung devices before this. I am thoroughly enjoying this phone. No issue with space
Easy to unlock

I just came from the Siii and am very happy to be with the One. 32 g is fine for me and the build quality is amazing compared to the Samsung. The Siii was a great phone, but the One is even better.
Well I decided not to go the route of at&t due to severely restricted data usage and way overpriced data plans. $90 for 6GB of data is pure greediness on at&ts part. I get truely unlimited data for $30 a month on sprint so it just makes no sense to move providers

The thing about Sprint is, they have terrible coverage and they kick you off if you use to much data. They are terrible and by far the worst provider available.

Did you consider T-Mobile? Great prices but I can't vouch for their service coverage I imagine its at least on par with sprint.

T-Mobile is second worst. They aren't too far behind Sprint.

I'm looking into prepaid service providers like net10 or Straight Talk.

Those are also terrible. Hate to say it, but to get good service you gotta pay. AT&T and Verizon are the 2 best. I travel constantly and have tried all the providers. AT&T is the best followed closely by Verizon. All the rest aren't worth a crap.

Funny you say that cause net10 uses At&t towers and straight talk uses Verizon towers so its the same reception levels. I bought a LG Nexus 4 and I bought my wife a iPhone 5 thru straight talk. 90 bucks a month for unlimited everything for 2 lines

It's totally different. You'll see what I mean.

I just got off Sprint because their coverage sucks ass. Also sprint has no lte by me. My wife is just waiting to drop sprint. What good is it to have unlimited data when it's limited by it's speed?

I collect almost every flagship device from the top OEMs and the HTC One is a huge upgrade from the S3. I've held a S3 today and it felt so horrible in my hands because I'm so used to holding this metal housing on my phone. And the difference in speed is crazy
If you plan on switching to AT&T you have the choice of a 32GB version or 64GB version. Plus cloud storage if you use Dropbox or Drive
And I think we have a AIO(All In One) toolkit now to make it even easier to unlock your bootloader

Pretty sure straight talk uses AT&T towers.
And in my opinion customer service is the biggest downfall of mvnos like straight talk. Go ahead and look up some reviews there are a ton of horror stories, people getting there service or data throttled or even cut off at arbitrary times, and not being able to get it straightened out. Eff that.

You can't expect good consumer service from prepaid providers. Just look at Metro PCS.. No disrespect but when I call consumer service I want someone who I can understand answering my questions
And Straight Talk uses AT&T and T-Mobile towers. You choose which carrier you want when buying the sim. They also support AT&T LTE now.
