I've been struggling for a while with that damned random clicks and browsing lags, and i think is a software bug related to firmware.
EDIT: A PATCH HAS BEEN PUBLISHED AROUND.
One app has been released to fix the random clicks screen bug, seems related to screen thermal calibration.

**edit: Tested. Does not require root, i've been using the zu for one hour, and not random clicks after using the patch.
it does not seems to be a permanent patch, as described, should be runned when the screen start to mess around or prior, avoding the issue.

Sorry. It worked for me.
If you keep having random clicks, i suggest you to try the settings into the wifi menu, as long it works but i have no idea why it works !
edit: this post is related to the old method of reconfiguring the wifi, not on the new russian patch published.
Why make a completely new thread for this instead of posting in the EXISTING thread you created for this issue?!

None of this makes a difference in my case - the random clicking still occurs...

I dont know. I just runned the patch, and everything is working.
But it was working for a while for me, and does not happens so often, so for now i cant tell any difference.
From what i read, it is not permanent also because dont use root.. so the app should be launched when screen start to mess around.
Well well well, look what I just found in /system/usr/idc/clearpad.idc
Anybody up for a little testing? Do a nandroid before you do anything, in case it goes straight to hell.

Nice find, I'm sure something like that is required - I'd love a "finger only" mode personally as I'm not interested in using a pen/pencil/whatever with my phone (and the ghost touches when the screen is wet and/or dirty are deeply annoying!).

Yeah, same here. I do know that this is in fact the way to adjust the sensitivity, but i have no idea what's what. What happens if i set it to 1? Or what happens if i set it to 0.0099?
UPDATE
Note: It looks like ClearPad is Synaptic's touch technology which is being used in most Android handheld devices.
Found this in the Android source: (android/device/sony/lt26/7d63d18c0525f96a44fb5cdbb49869407923d1cd/./config/clearpad.idc)

Code:
# Input Device Calibration File for the Tuna touch screen.
#
# Basic Parameters
touch.deviceType = touchScreen
touch.orientationAware = 1
# Size
touch.size.calibration = diameter
touch.size.scale = 10
touch.size.bias = 0
touch.size.isSummed = 0
# Pressure
# Driver reports signal strength as pressure.
#
# A normal thumb touch typically registers about 200 signal strength
# units although we don't expect these values to be accurate.
touch.pressure.calibration = amplitude
touch.pressure.scale = 0.005
# Orientation
touch.orientation.calibration = none
Notice "touch.pressure.scale = 0.005". The Ultra is set to 0.0074. I need a tester who has CWR installed and has or can do a full NANDROID backup and can test this. I'm only rooted.
Edit: Totally unrelated: I just got my first SOD, and i didn't even do anything. I have no idea what's happening :S

I think this is related to touch sensitivity.
In official Sony forum, there is a discussion, they said that there is something related to the screen temperature and the touch overreacting.
Thanks
Thanks it works.. for now.. i am still testing..
does this work in current firmware? 4.4.4?
Screen does seem to do random stuff when a little oily, and even when clean sometimes has a lag after touch.
Ghost Touches
hi
My phone sony xperia z ultra LTE model suddenly started having ghost touches yesterday. The exact point of touch is near the keypad Number 5 and 8.
when i on the screen the phone automatically goes to the emergency call menu and the number 5 and number 8 are constantly being typed without me touching the screen.
Went to sony service center but they say may be some issues with the screen, advied to do hard reset but cannot accept the phone is it was bought overseas.
Any help from anyone is appreciated.
My phone is not rooted and is running stock rom and is up to date . Android 4.4.4
This is my first post, if any errors in posting please excuse.

have you tried cleaning the screen when that happens, there seems to be some software problems on the Xperia Z1 and Ultra. I had the same problem on my Z1, and got the screen replaced under warranty to have the same issue. now tih my Ultra same thing again.
Having a clean screen makes a difference.
So, does rooting it or installing a custom rom fix this?
I just bought this device and it happeend to me once, restarted it and everything is fine. I am still within the 14 day return time.
To be frank, I cant be arsed to deal with these issues. I expect more from OEMs, otherwise, might just aswell get a cheap china phone and roll with it. At least those are cheap.
I am 50/50 on either returning it or sticking with it.
I know for a fact that OEM firmware is garbage, but is this issue a hardware problem? A custom rom cant fix hardware issues.
I have had my fairshare of experience with smartphones. This is the first time anything like this has happened to me

What firmware is it running? I have no issues on Carbon or GPe, but it is a long time since I've had Sony software on my ZUs. There is a fix for older firmware that needed root. Wet sticky/sweaty finger will make it worse

Thanks for this. I actually used this to show a Verizon employee the dead pixel my brand new Galaxy S3 had. We used the touchscreen test mode to circle the area with the dead pixel. It showed up nicely on the white background.
I'm still unclear on what the light sensor is testing.I do get a reaction. It flashes black/blue, zero/one.....but what is it doing and how do I test the light sensor here?

Did they replace it? I was under the impression they don't warrantee against dead pixels, which would infuriate me.
The proximity sensor on this phone has much better range than my old phone. In good light, with a piece of white paper, the prox sensor would consistently get tripped at 9cm (3 1/2 inches)!, which is almost double my old phone's.

You have to put your finger directly on the light sensor (directly to the left of the front cam) for it binary flip from 1 to 0. It doesn't show gradually reduced sensor values as you approach.

The initial floor employee would not acknowledge the problem. He kept saying "oh they won't see it and I'll get fired, etc". I remained calm but continued to press him about it, but he wouldn't budge.
I got frustrated and after arguing with him on a different route (the 14-day exchange period) he even refused to acknowledge that Verizon obliges themselves to a 14-day return. I pressed him more on it before he finally went to talk to a manager, and said "oh right we can do that". I was grudgingly going to pay the $35 restocking fee out of frustration.
Eventually, after he fumbled with the computer system for a good 20 minutes or more, he got the manager to look at the computer. The manager then asked me to see my phone, and I put it into the hardware test mode and showed him the affected area. He made a quick call to another store, as he was wondering if they had any similar problems (he said one person's phone had a damaged back plate out of the box).
After he saw the dead pixel he confirmed that I could swap it out for free. I apologized for making a fuss over a single dead pixel, but he assured me I didn't have to explain myself, and that he would have done the same thing had he paid for a defective device.
So, yes, I did get them to replace it, but only after an hour and a half of waiting, arguing, more waiting, etc.
Thankfully my new Galaxy S3 seems fine.

That's good to hear. Physics would suggest that a larger device also acts as a better antenna.
I switched from the samsung infuse to this one and as far as I can tell the GPS on this is great that was one of my huge factors when I switched to this. All in all I have noticed it locks on within 5 to 15 seconds not to much longer and not once has it dropped on me even in the most remote of areas.

Sorry to bring this back up... I had no problems with GPS, but the last 2 weeks I have been having terrible issues. It is constantly getting off track when travelling in the car. Losing contact with GPS... especially right before I get to a major turn in the directions. Taking forever to relock. I did a full factory reset and that didn't help.
Anyone with any ideas? I sure do not want to have to pay for insurance replacement.
Perhaps atmospheric anomalies or problems with the GPS system itself ?
Lose GPS when connecting or disconnecting power
I have found that I lose GPS if I connect or disconnect power. This usually happens when I get into the car while playing Ingress and I reconnect the power. It is easy to overcome as I just turn off and on the GPS from the Notification Panel. It is obnoxious however. Can anyone else test to see if this is happening to them?

At this point I have not solved the problem. I did find that clearing the cache will alleviate the problem for a short while but it comes back. I did a support chat with Samsung and that was the first thing they had me do. Also when I loaded the new firmware update, same thing since that cleared the cache too. Samsung said to call back after testing the cleared cache step but I have not gotten around to it yet. I did find that if you have the GPS die that just hitting the GPS off and on from the notification drawer will restart it, but you probably already knew that. Glad to know that I am not the only one experiencing this issue. I am holding out hope that this will be fixed with 4.3 whenever it comes out. Otherwise I will have to do something drastic.
I also find that if I am using my GPS and bluetooth for a period time while my phone is in it's case then the GPS dies. When I remove the phone from the case it is very warm and the GPS does not come back to life from restarting it, but give it a minute to, I assume, cool down out of the case then it starts working.

Well crap. That means that the problems we are having are not software related (unless it is a kernel issue). I was hoping/waiting for the KitKat update to see if that solved but now I don't have that much confidence it will.
Wait, my bad. This rom you have is a stock rom so it could still be a software issue. Oh well I guess I will still wait.

So I have been reading on AT&T forums and the Note 3 had the same problem. I have even gone into the AT&T store and tried this, unplugging a Note 3 while it had a GPS lock, and it loses the GPS just like the Note 3. Well the Note 3's Kit Kat update came out and the people reporting the issue before are reporting no issue now with 4.4. So there is hope that Kit Kat will solve this one complaint I have with the Mega.
The GPS on the Sprint Mega sucks complete ass. Will never lock more than 1 out of at least 22 detected satellites. Note 3 is on top and Mega is on the bottom. I'm going to discontinue use of my Mega until Sprint and Samsung fix this garbage.
Hi,
The main reason i sold my Z1 was because he has a lot of issues.
but the biggest issue was the touch screen problem.
bassicaly it was stop reconize the touch and it was creates sord of stops on the screen. (will upload a video later for an example),
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNV_jat9Z5Y
So i afraid that the Z2 will suffer from this issue too, i decided to open this thread for testing.
if someone on this forum have a model in his house, plz do the following test to see if the problem persist.
1. put the device on a flat surface like a table, naked without any case.
2. Open any sketch app. like drawer.
3. leave the app open on the surface for atleast 30 seconds.(if the screen goes off u can change the "screen on time" in Settings -> Display.)
4. after that draw a line, if the problem persist u will see it.
if someone can film the test when he does it will be even better and highly appriciated.
Thx guys

Yes, I got my Z1 with that same issue covered by warranty. They tried fixing it 4 times and I was patient for about 2 months because I really wanted to keep it. Finally I got fed up and returned it for a full refund under warranty - just didn't want to go through that again.

No problem mate, cuz it was a big issue on the z1 section i tought the z2 maybe suffer from this too. speacially when some z1 compact users report they experiencing this problem too.
So again friends, if someone has a prototype or a model plz do this test asap
I have the Z1 and never had this issue. I know it exists from the thread in the Z1 forum, just pointing out that not everyone suffered from this. That being said, it's a horrible problem to have and if I did have it on the Z1 I would never be getting the Z2.
I had Z1 & suffered from the same issue.I only preferred Z1 coz it can be rooted without loosing warranty. Also I think if z2 users face above issue they might also face screen not responding after playing games like dead trigger 2 for half an hour. Not to mention the yellow hue on screen

As the Z1 screen is surrounded by aliminium(I read somewhere in the forum that that's the problem),and the Z2 is aluminium+rubber I think the Z2 will not have this issue.

Since you already have a Z2 prototype - can you confirm that there still is a UMS mode available to switch the way you can connect your phone via USB? My car stereo sadly does not support MTP, so my only option to make the internal SD card available is via UMS.
thanks and sorry for hijacking the thread.

Awesome, thanks so much!
Some users in Tawian are reporting touch issues...
But it seems they are running a newer version of the firmware.

Hi,
The main reason i sold my Z1 was because he has a lot of issues.
but the biggest issue was the touch screen problem.
bassicaly it was stop reconize the touch and it was creates sord of stops on the screen.
Thx guys

I tested this and saw touch problem but it s not just Z1 that shows touch-problem in this experimental situation.
if i remember correctly G2, htc One & etc shows same problem in an experimental situation.
But i hope like lots of software tweaks on XZ2 they do something for metallic frame and touch.
they changed frame design little-bit i don't know if it effect on touch panel or not!
:good:
One more question. Is it possible to hide embarrassing photo albums in gallery or Sony still did nothing about it?
@AmberBoy
Download "Hide it pro" from play store, the best app for hiding stuff.

Is there any way to create keyboard shortcuts? Like I type in [email protected] and it would automatically change that to my email address? I can see how to add words to the dictionary, but not to make shortcuts.
How does the battery in the cam plus module work? Ive seen reports saying it doesnt work except when using the camera? Why would this be? Also tk bay said ipyou can not charge your phone with the cam plus module on? How dumb could lg be?
Not a question but eagerly hoping they can update one of the apps used for rooting without a PC to root my phone as I don't own a laptop at present.

Got another one: Can you disable the "Beauty Mode" on the front facing camera permanently? I want the slider to always be at 0. Really, really annoying for people who have freckles or stubble.
Anyone tried updating their h860 variant to this version? This is the first update i am getting since owning the phone for almost a month now.

The CamPlus Module is specifically meant to be used with the Camera App on the phone. There is a switch on the module that allows quick access to the Camera app. There's a Shutter Button, as well as button for taking videos.
You can charge the phone with the Module installed. The module has it's own battery and I've discovered that the module may charge the phone momentarily. With the Cam Plus Module installed on my G5, with a solid LTE Signal, I can get close to 15 hours of use in a day.
1. Any one facing serious lag with chrome?
2. When im trying launch recovery with hardware keys it asks if its ok to wipe everything- this is the way to recovery?
3. The fingerpring sensor sometimes not responding at all even when the display turned on.

1) Nope, i'm using Chrome dev and is smooth
2) Yes, lg's stock recovery only performs the hard reset, and it's the same on the other LG devices.
3) No problem with the fingerprint scanner, maybe a faulty device? Try to unlock the screen 4-5 times with the fingerprint and check if it works correctly

If it's so rare then there is no reason to worry about, it could just be a "stability" problem of the "young" software, or it's just you that put your finger in a wrong way, maybe Try to re-add the fingerprint or to add another one and See if things are different

The touch? You mean that if sometimes if you put your finger in the sensor the phone doesn't viber (which means wrong fingerprint) and no led appears? Well, that is sue strange, never happened to me, but still if it's so rare probably there is no need to worry about, if the problem get worse then it could be an hardware issue

Ok thank you!
Has any experienced mediocre Wi-Fi speeds? On my AT&T G5 I'm getting 18Mbps down and 6Mbps up compared to 48Mbps down and 6Mbps up on my Nexus 6 on a speed test at home. At work I get 110 down and 80 up on my G5, my Nexus 6 will get 240 down and 105 up. It's basically half of what my Nexus 6 will get on average. Anyone know what I need to do? Some weird setting I need to change?
A few hours after yesterday's upgrade, my mostly new (6 months) S21+ started having display/screen issues.
I have googled this but found nothing similar. There appears to be a repetitive shape (puzzle like) on the phone that makes things super hard to read, and there is something like green, black and purple bleeding. Photos attached.
Has anyone seen anything like this?
I have filed a repair service ticket since the phone is still under warranty, but since I am abroad it will be a pain to get it fixed.
My next step before mailing the phone to the US for repair, is to do a factory reset as recommended by tech support.
But I am just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and if it can be repaired easily.

That ain't pretty...
What does it look like with ScreenTest?
Looks like hardware. Could be the download/install got corrupted; I really don't like OTA updates.
Factory reset. If it's still doing it it's likely hardware. A lot of Samsung display failures in the last year it seems. It will at the very least need to be reflashed.
Make sure to backup all critical data...
I haven't tried ScreenTest... I will try it now
Yeah.... I am backing everything up before doing the factory reset.
Thanks for your reply
So I ran the screen test, red, green and blue and black and everything looks good... this is so weird?
Then I powered off the phone and back on and the green purple bleeding is much less. The text is now mostly readable. The weird puzzle shape is still there.
I guess the next step should be the factory reset?

Try clearing the system cache... (edit)
After seeing the phone dialing screen I don't think the ScreenTest will be any better. It may give you more insight though.
Now you see why I almost never update. The current Android 9 load on this phone will be 2yo in June, still fast and stable with minimal maintenance.
Android 9 and up are reasonably secure. I wouldn't update unless the current version isn't fulfilling its mission. The Fold variants probably have the most to gain from firmware upgrades.

Not display hardware it seems... interesting.
Try clearing the system cache.
Try in safe mod.
There have been reports of older apps glitching Android 12 up. Try using the factory theme if you aren't; older Galaxy themes may not be compatible with the newer OS.

OMG I always update!! Huge lesson learned... fingers crossed that a factory reset can fix this problem. But then will I have to update ?

After the factory reset you will still be running on the version you just updated to. Only the user data partition gets set back to its default values.
Bear in mind what I said about safe mode (3rd party apps) and the Galaxy theme that's running.
Maybe icon packs too... what a mess.
These are known issues. May not be anything wrong with the firmware. Android is putting developers through hell trying to be compatible with 12.
You should do a factory reset but then be careful what you load. Keep an eye on it. Uninstall any app that's not compatible as you load them.
Do system app updates one at a time, they could be a culprit.
Clear the system cache again after reloading everything.
Sorry I keep editing these posts. Really all I do to sort out most problems is to play with it.
That sometimes means multiple factory resets if you can't ID the problem. Put some thought into what your doing to try to avoid that and hopefully identify the source of any issues after the reset.
FRP... wipe your Google account from the phone before you reset and do the hard reset from settings vs the boot menu. I do the same with the Samsung account as well. Getting locked out isn't pretty or simple to fix.
If you don't like the upgrade it may be possible to roll it back (reflash) if the boot loader version hasn't been upgraded too.
Good news... before proceeding with the factory reset (it scares me to do it) I removed some apps: instagram, facebook, wodify and regram. Other apps had not been updated since the last Android update, so I started updating them one by one: messenger, google maps, google photos, instagram.
Now the phone is 90% better!!
Yay. 90%? Still display issues?
I would ditch those social media apps, they are malware in of themselves
If I can't excess and use a forum through the browser I will not use it. Especially fb.
These sites have helped to ruined, harmed and destroyed more lives and careers than you can count. At the best they are purveyors of disinformation as well as wholesale disseminators of personal information.

What's still wrong?
the repetitive shapes are still there but more faint... but now I can now red and view everything. A little bit of purple and green but barely noticeable.
Try using a fixed frequency like 60hz for the display. See if/how that effects it.
Does brightness level effect it? Full brightness?
Is it doing that in safe mode now?

Let me google how to use a fixed frequency
I am not on safe mode, but I tried it and it looks the same.
Brightness does affect it... it looks a bit better. Actually it seems like brightness has diminished. Before I barely had the brightness set to like 10%... now that is too dark and the weird shapes show more. If I increase the brightness it looks better

See if there's any system app updates on Playstore for it.
If you're in the US you can take it to a Samsung Experience center at a participating Best Buys store. They can run more advanced diagnostics on it or may know just by seeing it.
It's being quit the horror...
Yes, I think I will end up taking it to a Samsung Experience center here in MExico.
Thanks so much for all your help and patience!!

You're welcome. Sorry to see you're having so much trouble with it.
Play with the new firmware and see if you like it.
If you like the previous version better the Experience Center may be able to flash it back to that version.
