[Q] No Data and probs with mic - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've had a good search round for 20 minutes and can't find any solutions to my prob..
I've tried the efs and modem update route but it doesn't seem like I have that issue.. please read on for my current issue
I have also tried returning to stock, flashing mg2 and mg4 modems...
I've a screen of my current install (ignore my signature)
I'm having the exact same symptoms on the stock as with custom rom
Problem
I'm not able to use any data, even though the data lights are up and running and indicating traffic being sent and recieved (orang and green arrows), I'm not able to do anything via data.
Calls are working and sms, but if I make a call the microphone doesn't work, but my headset mic does.
Wondered if anyone has any ideas?

Hi JJ...
Gone into the basics sticky and refreshed myself, so I understand the principle of what your saying, however I can't find a stock rom to install by recovery only odin... I've tried EMH1 and MG4 both by odin before and there is no change to my symtoms... Am I missing something in the basics sticky?
When you say wipe phone, I asume you're meaning to wipe factory reset in recovery.
Currently my recovery is running the latest philz recovery, is that a good idea or should I revert to the stock recovery first...
Thanks for you help and guidance on this...

You wipe to remove user crap restore settings to default in case of problems .
Flashing a rom replaces the embedded firmware and that rom becomes the embedded firmware .

which means im just cleaning the data and all that but the Rom is still the one i flashed before-litening rom?
Yes of course it is you replace the original factory firmware when flashing a rom . No way to recover something you have wiped and installed another firmware in its place .

my apologies, i havent used the forum much as the phone has been fine for about 6 months, its now on checkroms v6 which i managed to flash onto it with a bit of fiddling, thinking that may solve some of my issues but it didnt. thats when i noticed this error when doing a few resets.
JJEgan, gonna follow your steps now buddy, thanks and fingers crossed
its a no go, it wont let me format or mount the sdcard
try factory reset from phone menu,
try another kernel to get another version of CWM, eg: Siyah
hiya zac, well i have the phone in download mode connected to odin, im using the link in your sig, and downloading the stock firmare and kernal, will it matter if i didnt wipe the sdcard before flashing these two items with odin? surely i can do it after?
upto you to try.....
cant guarantee since dont know what weird problem has got with your SD card which
dont allow you to wipe,
you can also try flashing another custom kernel first,
When you flash a stock firmware it already contains a Kernel, no need to flash seperately..
any chance to a quick link to a kernal to try and a guide!
its been a while since iv done this! haha
which rom are you currently on?? ICS or GB
checkrom v6 i do believe
GB CWM flash : http://gokhanmoral.desean.net/siyahkernel/v2.6/Siyah-v2.6.14-CWM.zip
Checkrom is GB version,
but makesure, from settings/about phone
i will bud, and i flash that kernal, with odin?
no this is CWM flashable, put on SDcard, and flash from CWM,
top man, off to have a go now
if CWM flash fails, you can try from ODIN
ODIN flash :http://gokhanmoral.desean.net/siyahkernel/v2.6/Siyah-v2.6.14.tar
select the file from PDA of Odin,

[Q] Unstable ICS ROMs (tried many...)

Hey guys!!!
New galaxy S2 owner. I have done some searching in these forums and the threads answered many of my questions. However, I still have some newbie questions that I found unanswered. Please excuse me if my questions have been answered before but I got tired of searching
Here is the deal:
Yesterday, I flashed a CF Root with Odin3. Then used CWM to flash a wanamlite firmware. The firmware was great but I didn't like that it still had TW. So I dl'ed another firmware to the internal SD card and flashed again using CWM. I then flashed a couple of other ROMS and I noticed that after the first wanamlite flash, the new ROMs were unstable with many error messages that some OS processes have stopped etc.
I got back home, flashed to stock with Odin3 and the phone got stuck at the second samsung logo. I followed some community steps (thanks XDA) like disabling all kies processes from TM, wiping data/cache, then boot in DL mode and flash the stock ROM using Odin3 which worked.
I then Flashed a CF Root again and used CWM to flash a Spike Pure ICS ROM v5 which was great but I get occasional error messages like 'gallery stopped' or some other error message when I try to set contact photos. It just lags, blackscreen then comes back with the 'Unfortunately, the process had stopped'.
My questions: is this because of the previously flashed firmware that this is happening or is it that those ICS ROMs have these issues commonly? Did anyone have this experience before? What do you advice before flashing to a new ROM going back to stock or going straight from the current? Doesn't Odin3 technically wipe everything back to stock?
WIPE WIPE WIPE.
Go into recovery. Data/factory reset.
Advanced, Wipe dalvic cache. Mounts and storage, format system. Its a standard procedure going from one OS to another OS. You can then either flash a firmware zip from recovery or an .tar file from Odin.
Then to be on the safe side factory reset once again.

Wich fw do you have?
Make a deep clean with odin an flash on the latest ics version (lp9 is a good one)..then flash (if you want) a custom rom..
My experience with custom roms: one of the best rom samsung based (ics 4.0.3) is the foxhound greyfox v2..if you want a pure ics rom flash the omega aokp rom (ics 4.0.4)..
Try then to change kernel..siyah is the best for both roms..
P.s. sorry for my bad english

After LP7 should be staple enough for daily use .However you are using custom roms and you should read carefully each roms thread before flashing .
You are probably suffering from flashing multiple roms and leaving bits behind as well = clean wipe .
jje.
Can someone give me a clear full wipe procedure? I always wiped data/factory rest/wiuped chaceh and dalvik... but what else? a step by step procedure would be helpful!!
I currently have Spike Pure ICS v 5.
What do you mean by Odin3 'deep clean'?

so:
1. Recovery mode > format user data > wipe cache > clear dalvik > format system (from moutns and storage)
2. Download mode > flash stock ROM using odin 3
Did I get it right? Was there something i didn't wipe?
Before you flash a new rom, make sure you answer the requirements. Some ICS roms need to be flashed in specific way.
The way of doing a full wipe is you go in Clockwork mode, wipe data/factory reset, you wipe cache partition, then go to advanced wipe Dalvik and Battery stats, then go in mounts and storage ( i think ) and you wipe the cache from there, but nothing else in mounts and storage. If you wipe anything else there's a high percent of bricking your phone. If this doesnt help you, I doubt that anyone could give you any clearer instructions.
Good luck.
DONT FORMAT SYSTEM.

i always do personally.
I got tempted and formatted system/cache/data but now i cannot flash from my internal sd card.. I get errors and 'installation aborted' if i try to do it from CWM... does that mean formatting those 3 means Odin3 is the only way? Cus I'm not home and I don't have odin3 on me.... LOL!

Did you format sd card and totally wipe the lot = nothing on the phone .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
At this point you have no OS on the phone nor kernel rooted nor CWM .
Hence

I did a 'full wipe' by doing t his:
1. Boot into CWM: wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe battery stats, wipe system/data/cache from mounts.
2. Reboot into DL mode, flash stock ROM using Odin3.
3. Repeat step 1
4. flashed spike ICS v 7.3 using CWM. Stable so far.
Thank you!
imho: the most stable ics release is the stock official, but with some.battery issues, my suggestion: stay on gingerbread, find a custom kernel to suits your need,
GT-I9100, official 2.3.6, hardcore's Speedmod

I agree! I don't like ICS because is still unstable! My battery lasts very short with ICS and the phone overheats.
Moreover I hate the browser! I mean, The Galax S2 with GB still has the smoother browser of all the smartphones out there, and Samsung with ICS update messed it up! Now is laggy with micro stutters! Don't understand why!

You didn't need to go through all that trouble just because you didn't want TW (which I also hate, btw).
You could simply have installed another launcher (such as Go Launcher EX, ADW, etc) from Play Store and, since you were already rooted, uninstalled TW using Titanium Backup afterwards. It has to be in that sequence (install new then uninstall old).
this way you can have whatever ROM + kernel combination you like, and still use whatever launcher you prefer.

[Q] Flashing Rom without SD Card/Backup Q

Is it possible? I currently do not have an SD card and was curious in trying a Rom.
Also I am backing up my phone with Titanium Backup, but where is that backup saved? Should I move the backup to my PC? If so how?
Yes.
On internal card where else could it be. See in app settings or use a file explorer.
Flashing process doesn't touch internal card but it's safer to have an external card in case of bug.
But do not put rom on sd card and then wipe sd card .

You did the only thing that you shouldn't have done. I've never used super wipe, totally unnecessary to flash a Rom. Classic wipe data/cache/dalvick is enough.
Use Odin to flash again a Rom and download again the room.

However, I rooted my phone with autoroot which apparently doesn't come with CWM? The rom instructions of Android Rev. tell me to use superwipe which the above user said NOT to do? So then what instructions do I follow?
sometimes it doesn't trigger restart to recovery. you just jave to restart the phone into recovery to have it install cwm properly
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
i myself am an AHRD user.first im confused as to how you were able to install superwipe without CWM recovery.so im assuming you might actually have it and what you mean by CWM is the app itself.now since you already wiped your phone, only way for you to get it working again is EITHER to restore your NANDROID if you made one before attempting flash OR flash stock ROM,root it and then try to flash ARHD again without using superwipe.instead go to cwm recovery(up volume+power+home) and do "wipe cache", "wipe data/factory reset" then advanced>wipe dalvik.

Are there instructions on flashing customs roms with just Odin. I don't have an SD card. Phone is I9305 rooted and with latest CWM Touch
Thanks

[Q] Can't flash any ROM via Clockworkmod - stuck at S logo after

Hi guys.
My phone is a international i9300
I've been searching for a problem like mine in the forum for three weeks now and I couldn't find a proper solution.
I just can't flash any rom via CWM anymore...
I can flash roms via ODIN, but when it comes to CWM, it gets stucked at Samsung logo after the install.
I tried:
Wipe cache / Dalvik / factory reset.
before the installation, after the installation, every combination possible.
Tried megawipe and no help.
Changed the kernel, Siyah, Googy, stock...
Changed versions of CWM, touch.
I have now the Phil'z 5.0.15.
I like very much the XXELK4 version from roalex with its MOD, for the call recording and full multiwindow support, but can't flash it anymore, nor any other custom or stock via CWM.
By now I can only have a full stock flashed via odin, or my Omega 46.1, wich I have a full backup.
Another solution could be find a .tar rooted and with the MODS flashable via Odin, but I really wanted to understand what's happening with my recovery.
Thank you all and congrats for the great work with the forum.
In cwm format..
Data
System
Cache
Then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache
Then flash the rom.

Forgot to include in the original post... I tried that too. Formatted everything
Got the 6.0.6.3
I also tried with the last Philz recovery.
And with previous versions of both too.
Have you tried to go bk to stock, root that firmware then install cwm then flash custom rom? Clean slate start.

I'll try to download again, although it's not likely that several files are bad. I tried with so many different roms...
I bought another micro sd of 64gb. Maybe the one I'm using is ruining the files...
There can't be a so huge bug in philz recovery
Try install from internal sdcard, a simple 'Factory Reset before New Rom' no need to mega wipe anything.

Of course. And I tried with different versions of Philz' and also CWM. It can't be a bug in recovery.
Re-downloaded the revolution 29.0 and the Roalex XXELK4 rooted, copyed directly to internal and flashed... Same problem. Stuck at Samsung logo in boot. I'm begining to think my phone is screwed up. But this is so strange. I can restore my backup with no problems, and also can flash with Odin.
Is there a way to flash a .ZIP ROM in Odin?
Does not make any sense .
What model phone do you have ???
What model firmware are you flashing .
What about basic stock custom roms flashed via CWM ??
Have you booted to Philz recovery mounts and storage format sd card cache system and data then flash rom ??
Agree it is strange Deviating a little from your problem but have you tried flashing anything with TWRP recovery see if the problem persists with that.

I uploaded the screenshots with my system specs.
The model is correct, international i9300. Tried to download from the site and also directly from rommanager.
The firmwares I'm trying to flash are stock, but rooted by Roalex. I couldn't find a pure stock .zip for testing with CWM. The firmware I'm using is UBEMH5 from sammobile, wich I flashed via Odin.
Yes... Tried and formatted everything, several times, mounted, unmounted, every possible order...

It's been a while since i used it last time was when I had a S2 and I used it all the time:good: You can flash any rom with it that cwm can flash (as far as I know) but it had a little trouble restoring backups made with cwm but I think that got fixed. But you can make backups and loads of other things with it I recommend people to try it at least once This won't fix your cwm problem but would be interesting to see if it works
If twrp doesn't work on stock Flash googy Max dualboot kernel and keep stock as primary rom and custom as second rom. Then you have best of both world's  also take the pic down with your emei showing :banghead: never ever show this!
What i would do in this situation is .
In recovery format cache system sd card preload .
Flash stock rom via Odin.
Check phone works ok .
Then root / flash philz recovery .
Put custom rom on sd card boot to recovery factory reset .
Then install custom rom watching setup to spot a failure point .
Wait for rom to load 10 mins fails then remove batter replace and factory reset .
Problem solved
Hi folks.
Think I figured out what's going on.
Via TWRP it says the files were corrupted, although the file sizes were identical.
I MD5 checked the files in my computer and they're ok, but when checked already inside my phone or SD they're not.
Instead of copying the files via USB cable I removed the SD card and inserted directly in my laptop slot and copyed the files. MD5 checked and they're ok...
After I tryed again copy via USB and the files were corrupted again.
I think my desktop USB or maybe the Samsung drivers are doing that.
Well, problem solved. I hope this helps other people in future problems.
Thank you all for your help and support. Keep on with the great work.
Mark solved then for other users .
